@NikolaosKey my warmup is really simple. I either walk briskly for a quarter miles or so, or else I start running at a pace just a little bit faster than a brisk walk, so I can start my Garmin sooner and get more miles in . No stretching or other exercises. I've tried to get into the habit of doing a lunge routine prior to a run, but nah...I just want to run. @MobyCarp has some great thoughts on warm up too.
@skippygirlsmom congrats to Skip!! PRs, and school records?!?!?! wow! I love that she's planning on hanging around with you on your HM. Hoping you can get that hip squared away sooner rather than later.

@OSUbuckeye906 after the blister heals, if those shoes still give you problems, try using Leukotape at the hot spot. This stuff has tenacious ability to stick no matter how wet it is or how much you sweat, yet it's not too bad to remove. I just used this over the weekend because the ball of one of my feet has a hot spot from some poorly tied shoes on a wet run. I don't have to use it often, but when I do, it's awesome. I have to stress, wait until the blister heals because if you already have a blister, this may peel the blister right off. This stuff is very durable and can be worn for several days if you want. It's cheap too.
@BeeerRunner nice score on airfare! My friend who lives in Pleasant Prairie is trying to talk me into doing the Lakefront Marathon. As I recall last year it was the same weekend as family weekend at Marquette. I'm not sure if that would make it easier or harder for me to do, from a family obligation standpoint.

As I was logging my miles this weekend I looked back and realized that I had runs of 20 or more miles in 6 of the last 7 weekends. One big improvement I see is how little time I need to recover from these runs. I used to be stiff and sore into the following day but now it only last a couple of hours at most. It makes me wonder how sustainable this is...
Saturday was scheduled to be a 30 mile trail run, but with my recent calf strain I decided to run gravel roads instead since running uphill could aggravate my calf. I went out without any mileage goal. I told myself that as soon as I felt any issue with my calf, I'd head back to my truck and go home. I finally felt an ever so slight twinge on the 21st mile. I was mighty pleased with how much ground I covered. I kept my pace about a minute slower than my normal long road run and my average HR of 127 reflected that. 131 is where my Zone 2 starts.
The run was a tease, as much of the road I was running on was next to my favorite trails. Every time I passed a trail entrance I had to fight the urge and remind myself that it was for the greater good to stay on flat land.
Sunday was a schedule 7, but since Saturday was cut short I wanted to go 12. In the end I traded in nearly 4 miles for extra sleep, which was probably a better choice anyway. Absolutely zero pain on the Sunday run. I am so, so relieved this thing only lasted a few days.
My March goals are not going to be met. I'll miss my trail miles by a long shot and my total miles by 10 to 15 miles. I still have a shot at my first 200 mile month, so that's what I'm aiming for. Today's a rest day but I may go out and do a slow & easy 4 or 5 with the mutt. I really want to hit that 200 mile milestone.

@7lenny7 - That is freaking amazing! 20 mile runs in 6 of 7 weeks?? I suspect it is sustainable. Clearly you have established that as part of your base. Of course, like anyone, you'll probably blast all that with some crazy race that will knock you down a peg or so for recovery time. Freaking fantastic! How long do your 20 mile runs take? Do you keep it all in zone 2?

Notes:
Had an exceedingly frustrating morning! I don't feel super safe running in my neighbourhood, so I do almost all of my runs from the school gym as it is only a mile from the lakefront trail. It takes me 2 buses to get there, or 15 minutes by bike (when it's warm enough!). I went with the 2 bus option today because my bike has a flat currently and it's not quite warm enough for me to want to bike yet. So yeh, 30 minutes and two crowded buses later, I get there only to find out the gym is closed for the whole day to fix some of the basketball floors. Which is very obviously a PLANNED maintenance, so I guess they just didn't want to give us poor students any advance warning?? They later sent out an email around 10:15 today saying that it is closed for the day, but the gym opens at 7 so that didn't help any of us that typically go in the morning. I really wanted to get my run in though, so I took the two buses back home and ran some laps around this little park near my apartment (the only place that feels safe to me to run). The run itself was pretty uneventful, and I felt much less angry after I was done haha. Really glad I didn't let the dumb gym ruin my whole day!
Funny note- the second bus I took coming back home was the same driver that picked me up on the way there. He definitely recognized me and gave me a really funny look

After last weeks fall I took a few days out, and the leg got better every day. I was tempted to try it out last night since it was the first light evening following UK clock change, but decided the extra days rest would be better for me.
I went out for a short walk this morning to test out how my leg felt, and whilst no pain my right quad felt 'tired' towards the end. Despite that it gave me enough confidence to try a run today. I was doubtful I'd manage my planned long run (23k+) but thought I'd just go easy for as long as I could. I put on some compression shorts and set out early afternoon.
The first few km I was hesitant about my right leg, and kept going slowly to see if it would ease up. About 4k in I could still feel it but it hadn't gotten any worse since the start of the run so I thought I'd go on to 10k. As it turns out a couple of km later the niggle had completely gone, and was fine for the rest of the run. My route was along flat non-technical trail which kept me by the water for most of it but never more than about 1km from a bus route home (should my leg decide to play up). I was doing well until I had to stop for a toilet break about 16k, and after that was a real struggle. I passed near home about 20k but forced myself to do a couple of loops round the local park to make my minimum distance target of 23k, (although I was hoping to do 26). In the end I managed 24.53k but nearly every step of that last 8k was a mental challenge.
Feel glad that my fall/injury hasn't really set me back, and also the 2 runs I missed last week shouldn't stop me reaching my March target as well.

Not counting Saturday, since it was a forced slow run, my road 20's are at a 9:45 pace on average.
The three 20's on very hilly trails have been at an 11:20 average. Plenty of walking up steep hills on those.
Including a couple of 18's and a 19 in this training cycle, my HR has ranged from 130 to 139, averaging 135.
Garmin tells me Zone 2 is 131 - 144. So yeah, always in Zone 2.
Friel's table tells me 141-147 is Zone 2
I never really paid much attention to zones. I used to go by the Daniel's tables spreadsheet for a target HR but now just go on feel.

Sub 60 temps are history. Gotta get used to going slower or not as far. Humidity sucks.

Today's assignment is "easy plus 4 strides," but I've been taking Mondays as a rest day for a while. After much second guessing and contemplating my non-running schedule for the day, I ended up deciding to honor the rest day. I'll get my miles in for the week.
Because I'm not running, I'm doing stuff online. Among other things, I see that the Shamrock 8K made pictures available for runners to download free. Apparently King Neptune on the boardwalk is something of a local landmark in Virginia Beach, they took several shots of me with Neptune in the background.

At least I've gotten a lot of use out of the Nike Mog Bolt I was given for Christmas:
~16 lbs of groceries. Doesn't fit as well when fully expanded, but otherwise fine for running3 -

@7lenny7 I saw that video. Amazing good sportsmanship. I always find near the end of a race that people are trying to help each other get through. I helped a guy who was running his first 5K and turned out he knew some friends of mine. He said he never would have finished if it wasn't for me. Skip stopped one time during a XC race when someone had fallen and was obviously hurt, she said after I don't care about my time I cared that she was hurt. She was shocked people were just going around her, the girl was bleeding. That has come back to here too, she had a girl stop to help her when she fell during a race. Hey it's all a part of it, we all want each other to succeed.4

@WhatMeRunning - It's an MFP thing. @Stoshew71 ran into it a few months ago and posted about it. Apparently there are (or were) some spam bots targeting MFP. When the MFP techies looked at it, the common thing they found to auto-reject was that all the spam messages had the number one-one-nine (as numerals) in the message. So they hold every post with that number for review. That doesn't bother most chit chat, but if I happen to need that specific number, my post is held for review. It appears anywhere from a few hours to a day and a half later, in the group at the spot for when I posted it. In a low volume group, people don't see it because it doesn't trigger the new message flag. In a high volume group, people don't see it because the thread has moved on.
You would think there would be something else less common than a three digit number starting with 1 that MFP could use for screening, but that's what they came up with.2 -
I'm guessing the spammers could easily get around that filter.2

Group speedwork tonight was 60-60s. Sixty seconds hard, sixty seconds rest with 9 repeats, then sprints. I like this workout. It goes fast.
I'm going to have to work to make my goal for the month. It shouldn't be a problem but it's a really busy week and I usually don't run take a rest day on Sundays like I did yesterday. We shall see.3 -
@MobyCarp Huh. . . I had no idea that was a thing. Think a spam filter would possibly not trigger on members that have n number of posts. Anyway, that's neither here nor there. The IT part my brain got initiated.
When this first came up I thought (also letting my IT brain get in the way) the way they handled must have been a work around until they really fixed the issue. I can't believe between their security guys and/or developers they couldn't come up with a better (permanent) solution.2 -

I haven't been here much for the last couple of weeks... work is killing me and I am struggling to fit in running and other activities into a 60-65 hour work week. It doesn't leave me much time to read and chat here unfortunately. I have been running whenever I can and so far the weather has cooperated by not being too warm. My daughter was down for her Dad's birthday this weekend so I didn't get in a long run but it won't kill my training plan and I should hit my goal tomorrow anyway. I am hoping to be near my stretch goal of 120 by Friday.
I am going to take some time to go back now and read up on what everyone has been doing! Running a bunch I hope!
