What nobody tells you about losing weight

That you'll never get to eat on the same schedule/same foods as the person or people you live with. (This sucks.)
I don't find that to be an issue at all. I eat the same foods as my husband and the same schedule. I eat the same foods as I always ate. The main difference now is I weigh all my food.
Preparing and eating food is a lot easier when there's only one person in the house, but it's been kind of lonely since my son left for basic training. But then, anytime I fixed something I just yelled, "Food!" and he'd stagger out of his room to graze.
Now I'm stuck in a house with a high-speed internet connection, two crotchety cats, and a gently used German Shepherd for company.31 -

Yep, we still all eat pretty much the same thing in my house too... I might have a smaller portion, or skip the bread/bun/whatever is too calorific, but I'm not cooking two or three different meals every day!
@Speziface I hope your son is doing well and you're not getting too lonely - at least you have all of us random strangers on the interwebz to 'talk' to!12 -

What no one tells you about weight loss...I love reading this thread and now I finally have one to add!!
I was at the gym on Saturday doing my favorite workout, basically a HIIT-type that mixes fast treadmill running intervals with strength intervals. Anyway, like I'm sure many of you, I listen to music while doing this off my phone. However, I don't have a phone arm band and generally just tuck my phone into the waistband of my workout tights, usually somewhere on my hip. Well on Saturday, I was in the middle of some kettle bell swings when I realized my phone was no longer at my hip, but was rapidly making its way into my crotch area. After 15 or so frantic seconds of groping myself to fish my phone out of my nether regions, I realized that without a muffin top to tightly wedge my phone in, it had come loose and was at the mercy of gravity! I was thankful for 3 things on Saturday:
1. The gym was pretty quiet, so relatively few people witnessed my "self-groping" for lack of a better term
2. my gym thankfully is well stocked with antibacterial wipes for when I actually retrieved my phone
3. NO MORE MUFFIN TOP!83 -

That is so funny. You should consider getting a Flipbelt. I got one for Christmas and I absolutely love it. It sits flat unlike a "fanny pack" is perfect for working out, running or even doing housework when you don't have any pockets. I can fit my samsung s7edge in with no problem.9 -
Love reading everyone's experiences. I've lost 18 lb with approximately 50 lb to go. I am 59 and my favorite thing so far is the feeling of loose clothes. Such a good feeling. Looking forward to getting back into those favorite clothes I haven't worn in a very long time. Also, hopeful my rings not worn for years will be wearable again. Especially the ring my sister gave me for a birthday at least a decade ago (which I never wore because wouldn't fit except on little finger). Thanks for sharing all. Oh, and yes seeing my clavicles again is a bonus.21

I agree about the Flipbelts! Works very well, I use it when I run.
What no one told me was that doing crunches in the bathtub is more difficult haha!3 -
I used to be one of those people who, when I found a piece of clothing that worked somewhat for my frame, I bought 3 of them (several different colors). Now, I have to fight the urge to buy multiples. I used to buy quite a few of the same style because I felt it would be unlikely to find another piece of clothing I liked, fit me well or I just didn't want to try on clothes. Now, I want variety. I don't have to stick to a certain cut or fabric...I have more options that feel flattering. I no longer have the desire to buy multiples.36

that when loose skin happens i can ....draw on myself...
I can pinch the skin and it stays up so iv taken to playing with it unknowingly... just looked in mirror and a smiley face was looking back at me from my loose tummy skin LOL22 -
The people who you thought would notice don't say a word, and you get compliments from the most random people instead. There's no way to predict, so best not to expect it from anyone!32

How I am constantly Thanking God for his power that he gives me daily to keep up this fight! God is one serious motivator and strength provider. Simply AMAZING how I can push out another 100 calories when I was dead tired 2 minutes previous. All of the glory goes to him. GOD bless friends!41

The fact that no matter how much I lose, I still have a lingering fear this weight loss isn't real. Maybe it will come back tomorrow... I know it's not true, but it's hard to change your mental reality about yourself as quickly physical changes occur.43

Nobody tells you that you wish you would have learned more about the metric system in school to prepare you for measuring foods. My understanding is all baking and cooking in Europe is all weight based (not cups, etc.) which makes so much sense NOW, but didn't really sink in until I started weighing my food.37

Thanks. I'd never even heard of fenugreek seeds before, but I did a quick Google search and found some good information. Now, I have to see if I can grow it in my garden this year.5 -

I have become somewhat unrecognisable even to people I know well. A woman who left my place of work about 15 months ago that I sat at the next desk to for about 6 years came for a visit last week and as she approached my desk with one of my colleagues she genuinely asked her if they had taken on new staff and was pointing in my direction. That was weird.
I have become more vain about my appearance in general, making more effort with my hair, make up etc than ever before
My large amounts of loose skin make a clapping noise when I am trying to be more active alerting everyone to my presence when I just want to be left alone to sweat profusely and turn puce in peace lol
I have more energy than I have had for years
Like many others have mentioned I am cold most of the time
I don't need to worry every time I get into someone else's car that I won't be able to get seatbelt done up!
Lastly for now...I am a whole lot happier right now

I have been very disciplined but only lost 3 pounds this month, however my old fat lady lump arms disappeared and my biceps and deltoids are showing and my pants are getting looser and looser.39

Everyone - when you're eating a calorie deficit, your core body temp goes down, so you feel colder. It's totally normal. Just have blankets/jackets/sweatshirts laying around in key spots!8
