ur food is sabotaging your progress... vanilla, chickensoup , cheese and oil... your body is burning these things instead of burning your fat.. you need to eat clean, when i start eating clean, when my weight stopped moving, and i added workout and it dropped again...eating clean and lower calories will give u magic results0

Wild caught, coho, raw (sockeye is usually marginally lower): https://ndb.nal.usda.gov/ndb/foods/show/4563?man=&lfacet=&count=&max=&qlookup=&offset=&sort=&format=Abridged&reportfmt=other&rptfrm=&ndbno=&nutrient1=&nutrient2=&nutrient3=&subset=&totCount=&measureby=&Qv=1&Q8576=1&Q8577=0.5&Qv=1&Q8576=3.0&Q8577=0.5
41 calories per ounce. Sockeye is 47 per ounce.
I mean, I can play this game just as well as anyone else (and I'm going to trust USDA far more than I ever would WalMart). But let's not delude ourselves into thinking that you can eat 6 ounces of salmon for 150 calories.
I'm wondering how Walmart gets the calorie count that low, when it's certainly not in line with what I'm finding at USDA. But, I don't eat frozen fish, so maybe there's some other processing at play there.

@collectingblues the usda site you linked me to doesn't give calorie count. Is it suppose to? I put in this type of salmon on the usda site search box and this came up but no calorie count.https://ndb.nal.usda.gov/ndb/foods/show/4687?manu=&fgcd=&ds=
Energy in kcal is the number you need. Bit technical but calories is not the same as Calories. There are 1000 calories in a Calorie. You are looking for Calories, or 1000 calories or kcal. Ignore everything I just said and use the kcal number as your calorie count.1 -
StaciMarie1974 wrote: »Wild caught salmon actually is about 25-28 calories per ounce raw. Wild caught is lean while farm raised is not. Depends on the source.
Wild caught is much better for smoking. Tried smoking farmed and it is way too fatty. They are VERY different.

I used the product label from the salmon I buy. Of course, the original poster would be responsible for using a good entry to match her product use.
But if I'm eating pink wild caught salmon from Walmart, I have no reason to log it as sockeye, coho, etc. from elsewhere.1 -
@StaciMarie1974 so would that Walmart brand of salmon have a USDA number assigned to it that I can then enter into MFP? Thanks!

Are you buying the Walmart brand?
It might have a USDA listing, but if it's not the salmon *you* are eating, it doesn't matter. Log what you eat, not a best guess estimate of what other people say they eat.1 -

I scan the label, and then adjust # of servings. Such as they don't actually weigh 4 ounces. 4.3, 4.6, etc. I edit serving size to match what I have.
KEep in mind: there are errors in the database, true, because of user generated entries. But ultimately you know what you're eating. So if you believe you are using the correct entry, go with it.1 -

Then we should send a bunch of soda to areas that are food scarce so people can maintain their body weight.

@ladyreva78 what does TDEE mean?
So, 3 abbreviations that get tossed around here.
BMR - Basic metabolic rate. This is the calories you burn existing. Basically to keep your current weight in a coma.
NEAT - Non-Exercise Activity thermogenesis. This is the calories you burn from normal daily activity. It varies by your normal activity level. It is calculated as your BMR times a factor (they vary by model). MFP uses 1.25 for sedentary. This number does not include exercise.
TDEE - total daily energy expenditure. This is the calories burned including all activity and exercise.
MFP (This place) uses NEAT. So it estimates your calorie burn on your size, age etc. and a factor for your activity level and then has you eat back your exercise calories. Some people like to estimate their calorie needs using TDEE and then not add back their calories from exercising.
If you are consistent in your activities and exercising, the TDEE method makes sense as you can figure it out and eat the same amount every day regardless of what you do. If you are inconsistent, than (my opinion) the NEAT method works better but does mean you are eating different amounts every day based on your activity and exercise. For example, I hurt my back last week and am doing less than normal right now so I'm eating less. But once I'm back to running daily, I'll go back to eating 2000 calories and just have a variance every day, with my weekly average being pretty close to that to lose 2 lbs.4 -
I'm a dirty, filthy eater who has lost almost 70lbs (of my goal toward 100lbs) since beginning in Sept 2016. It's a total crock of *kitten* that you have to eat clean.15
-
Comparison is the thief of joy. Just because someone else loses 10 lbs a month doesn't mean that's an appropriate amount for you. Sounds like you're doing good. Patience will be your best friend during weight loss.7

Interesting. I don't have cheat meals either. So... mostly healthy foods with some indulgences, no attempt at clean eating, plenty of diet soda, and dropping 1-2 lbs a week. Doctor's pleased with my progress and my BP has dropped too.3

Late to this party, but I agree with most of these posters.
I lost 70lbs over the course of 2 years - I was pretty on and off - eating what I wanted within calorie guidelines. I got pregnant, put some weight back on during that time, and am now trying to lose that weight while not compromising my milk supply. I've got about 50lbs to go to goal and I'm trying to lose 1/2 pound per week. I'm 5'4" and at sedentary activity levels, I'm allowed 1800 calories - not considering breastfeeding.
Your logs look like mine when I'm about half in it. You should only be using measuring cups/spoons for liquids. Your croutons? Those go on the scale. How do you know you've got 0.8 of a tablespoon? Your eyesight must be better than mine. I'd rather pour off a level tablespoon and eat the calories. I'm not making accusations here - but from my experience, when my log looks like that, I am not being honest with myself. And when my weight isn't moving, I know I gotta stop fudging.
How do you know you're burning 300 calories speed walking? Are you just going with what MFP says? Cut that number in half, and it's more likely. MFP, machines, and internet databases all inflate. But you should be eating back exercise calories. Yes, exercise is for health, but part of health is fueling your body for it. Do you expect your car to go the distance if its got an empty tank? Why should your body be any different?
@rainbowbow had it right with the SMART goals.
Change your goal to 1lb per week. Take progress pics and measurements today. Eat back half of your exercise calories. Take what you've learned about logging here - really good stuff - and apply it. In 5 weeks, assess where you're at. Check your weight, take more pics, and measurements. Adjust your goal accordingly. And when you hit 30ish pounds to go, drop your goal to 1/2lb/week.
And to speak to trend weight apps - I weigh daily. I love it. I use Libra. But if its going to make you obsess, don't. It's a tool. It helped me learn and anticipate changes and fluctuations in my weight based off food, activity, and my cycle.
It's a marathon. You CAN do it. Just reassess how fast you wanna get there. When you get there, do you want to be healthy and have the tools to stay there? This is the place.

This is blatantly untrue. I ate many foods commonly described as "dirty" when losing weight and not only did I lose weight successfully, but my body fat percentage went way down.
And you're contradicting yourself here because you said above that if you don't eat clean, you won't lose weight. Now you're saying you will lose weight? Why don't you take some time to work out your theory and get back to us then.8 -

No. One of the biggest problems is LABELING food as good/clean or bad/dirty. There is no such thing or, I should say, a decent definition of those labels. I have lost 60 pounds eating what I wanted, just not as MUCH as I wanted.
I am not a special snowflake.4
