Hi All !
Today is Day 1 of my new beginning and I'm so glad I found this thread. What a great idea: "just for today" fits with my approach - just for this moment, just for today, one step at a time, one ounce at a time! I have over 100+ pounds to shed and there's no time like now to start.
So happy to have you join us! You will find the nicest group of people on this site. It keeps me going everyday. Hope to see you tomorrow! Looks like you are off to a great start --- one day at a time!4 -
This board is exactly what I need! I'm 39, and have between 15 and 20 lbs to lose.
JFT Goals
- Stay within daily calorie goal.
- No alcohol (not a problem, just an easy calorie cut)
- Bed at 8:30 (Bon Jovi concert last night. Need to catch up on the lost sleep).
Love to have you joining us! Would love to see Bon Jovi in person! Well worth staying up late for!2 -
Lol no didn't get hurt! I dropped the dog lead though and was shi&ting it because it was dark and he hasn't learnt recall yet! Thankfully he came right back to me!2 -
Just for today: Tuesday
Drink 24 oz of water--done
Exercise 25"--Yep!
Keep within calorie limit--about 220 calories over
Declutter office for 60"---yes!--found my tax file
Practice 20"--no
Write two letters to friends--no
Several steps backward with the diet--iI know it was stress related eating (Hershey's kisses and pecans), because I was desperately hunting my tax information in my very cluttered office. Turns out I had put it in a special file box, and completely forgot that I had put it there!3 -
@asclepsia That sounds like exactly what I would do! I'm always putting things somewhere "so I won't forget" and then forgetting where that special somewhere is.
@joan6630 Thank you for the warm welcome!
JFT Goals - Tuesday
- Stay within daily calorie goal. - YES! Thank goodness after Monday!
- No alcohol (not a problem, just an easy calorie cut) - YES! Not hard as I was exhausted last night after not sleeping the night before.
- Bed at 8:30 (Bon Jovi concert last night. Need to catch up on the lost sleep). - YES! My DH even ended up going to bed then, too because he had to get up extra early today. I feel so well-rested and grateful I treated my body well yesterday.
JFT Goals - Today
- Stay within daily calorie goal
- No alcohol
- Bed at 9:30
- 30 min on the elliptical OR 30 min yoga
So, I'm inspired by all the activity people in this group get. I used to go to the gym every morning and lately we've had a lot of life changes (moving states, jobs, etc.) and I've fallen off the activity wagon. And now I'm trying to work out at home and it's just hard for me to get motivated. This JFT thing may help me get back at it!

Yesterday T 3/28/17
1) Keep w/i 100 of daily goal / smart evening snacking - Yes! No evening snacking at all, and my calories were in the green. Helps that I walked the dog and had a late (ish) supper.
2) Beautiful spring day, the sun's finally out = walk dog after work. Yes. Walked 3.43 miles.
3) Update financials...this needs to get done, stop procrastinating! Not done, but progress made. In the future, I need to organize better and keep up with these records (maybe quarterly). Would make this task so much easier than sifting through piles of receipts. Had to pitch some from 2015, really??
4) Floss - Yes Day 3
5) Bedtime by 10:30 no TV - Barely 10:26
Just for today W 3/29/17
1) Pre-log breakfast and lunch (done), and at soup supper before Lent service, do NOT take dessert. Wish I knew beforehand what the soup choices will be.
2) Continue to update financials.
3) Floss
4) Bedtime by 10:30 with TV off3 -
@cschmitz110515 : Had to chuckle because I spent the weekend decluttering our office at home so I could gather tax things and I was shredding receipts from 2015 also! OMG. Madness. Felt really good to purge it all!
I want to thank everyone for their input on ideas to get some activity in. I did go for a walk outside last night after I saw a few people on here mention it was a beautiful spring day in Wisconsin! It felt fabulous. I only got about 22 minutes in though because my ankle started acting up right away. I am going to sift through your ideas and comments again and decide what to try first. Someone suggested walking with a neighbor, and I wish I could do that, but I don't really know anyone in my neighborhood. We moved into our house about 2 years ago and everyone pretty much sticks to themselves. I did finally get one of the ladies who lives kitty-corner from us to wave back at me in the morning when I leave for work! Persistence...
@joan6630, I feel so much more peaceful today than I have felt for the past few months at work. I can't help but wonder if walking last night helped with that? I actually even slept better, without the racing thoughts all night. Life is too short to be this stressed out, and if a walk will help me with that, then I need to start moving!!
3 -
Goals 3/29
- Eat less than 3k calories
- Only have 1 cup of coffee
- Drink 80 oz water
- Have a healthy snack after work
Goals 3/30
- Eat less than I did yesterday
- Drink 80 oz of water
- Eat enough during the day so I'm not starving at night4 -

I think you will find that you look forward to those "moments alone" while walking. I do have a neighbor that I occasionally walk with, but I also love the time alone. Sometimes I just pray about things bothering me, or listen to nature, or listen to music. But to me, its my favorite thing to do. 34 degrees is my cut-off though, or if its snowing or raining. But other than that - I think once you start, you will find how much you enjoy it.2 -
Yesterday
1. no more eating! I went to another Zumba class last nite - and that really helped me with nite time snacking, as I didn't get home till 8:30. But ... I am SO SORE today!!My hips hurt, my arms hurt! I guess I used muscles that arn't used to moving!
2. carry my water bottle with me to stop me from eating anymore tonite!
JFT,
1. log all food
2. eat only in the kitchen. Do not sneak snacks and food.
3. eat only planned snacks
4. drink water
5. carry water bottle with me all the time
6. lay out clothes for the gym tomorrow morning
7. if its not raining tonite, go for a walk
8. get back on here tomorrow - be accountable
ALready went to the gym this morning, so off to a good start. But I am so sore from the zumba class - my intent was to only do 30 minutes on the treadmill this morning. I ended up doing 60 because I was talking to the person next to me. It helps so much when at the gym to have someone to talk to!
I think I am going to limit my zumba class to 2x a week until I get used to it
Hope you all have a great day3 -

This is a good goal! I find the days I eat a little more during the day I'm not so starving in the evenings. Once I start snacking its hard for me to stop!3 -
Just for Tuesday:
1. ACTIVITY, at least 30 minutes. Between walking after work and walking around shopping for fabric for a quilt, I did get off my hinder for over 30 minutes. Yea!!! Hit my step goal also!
2. Healthy whole foods only I was doing fantastic until 9:30 when I let myself shovel a few spoonfuls of ice cream in my mouth. Dang.
3. Water intake increase from yesterday's total About the same, but better than nothing!
4. Complete pre-copy tasks for project and get users built in training environment (work stuff) Again, ended up putting out fires and not being able to concentrate on this. Only 3 of us in the office today so hoping it stays this quiet.
5. Take a real lunch break. Leave the basement for at least 30 minutes. I did! I went fabric shopping for a lunch break for the quilt I want to start working on.
6. File our taxes tonight. Stop procrastinating! Yeahhhhhh, not so much.
7. Read from Simple Abundance... tonight and write in gratitude journal I find this so soothing at the end of the day.
8. One random act of kindness
Just for Wednesday
1. Pre-journal my meals and snacks for today and STICK to it
2. Take a walk tonight after work. Try to add 100 steps more than yesterday
3. Carry water bottle with me all day - goal 70 oz
4. Pack a gym bag for tomorrow after work (supposed to rain and snow tomorrow)
5. Pack tomorrow's lunch/snacks and pre-log in MFP.
6. Read out of Simple Abundance book and write in Gratitude Journal
7. DO TAXES TONIGHT.
Have a wonderful day everyone! We're half way to the weekend....3 -
Starting day 3 and thanks for the support and encouragement.
Yesterday's goals:
Motivation - Stay the course for a 2nd day - Recording worked great, calorie count sucked. lol
Water - Drink 2 containers (40 ounces) - Short 5 oz, but yes!
Food Choices - Eat 3 meals + snacks - Yes and then some
Activity - Do more steps than I did today - Doubled my steps, so a resounding YES!
On the downside, I just couldn't resist my usual Tuesday night trek to Boston Pizza, so I blew through the total calories in no time. But there's always this week to plan on my approach for next Tuesday. lol
Goals for today:
Motivation - Record, record, record... it may not be pretty but it'll be accurate!
Water - Go for the full 40 oz today
Food Choices - Change it up to get a better mix
Activity - Keep taking those steps, they'll all add up.
Happy Wednesday everyone, we're 1/2 through the week!

I walk alone (with the dog) most of the time, and I love it. It gives me a chance to unwind, and I try to enjoy my surroundings. Monday, I saw 2 sandhill cranes, a robin and a cardinal. The dog also gets more of my attention, which is good b/c people think she's a puppy based on her energy - she's almost 5yo.
My neighbor that I walk with occasionally is really sweet, but sometimes I wish she'd just stop talking all the time.
When I participate in 5/10Ks, I am usually by myself amid a sea of people. The Bellin Run is almost 20,000 participants! But I love the energy of the crowd and spectators, and it spurs me to walk faster. I have my best finishing times at events - I have a fear of finishing last. And it's really fun to people watch during these events. At the Jingle Bell 5K, there's even a costume contest.

@cschmitz110515 I give you a lot of credit for doing the Bellin Run! I thought you had to run in those, and I wouldn't make it 4 feet!
I agree with you and Joan both that it is nice to walk alone. I did really enjoy it last night. I need to make it a habit and just do it before I sit on the couch. Such an easy simple concept...yet I have so much trouble following through.
I find myself craving "quiet time" since we moved to the city and what better way to get it? Yesterday I put in ear buds and listened to music. Tonight I may just go to one of the parks near us and just listen to nature as I walk. Some of the parks here are so pretty, and maybe it would help me get my "nature fix". I really miss country living and the trails through the woods we used to walk.
thanks again for the ideas! Have a fantastic day!2 -
@OConnell5483 Lots of events have a walking division. Which is good for me b/c I've never been a runner.3
-
Just for today...
1. Eat a salad.
2. Drink at least 2 more cups of water by midnight
3. Try not to be too hard on myself5 -

I easily walk 5 miles at a time now, and have thought so many times of doing a run. But I am nervous about being around that many people. Like you said, it seems there are runs going on every weekend! My daughter actually runs them, but I haven't gotten up the courage to do one yet.
But like you, I absolutely love walking. We have a state park a mile from us, and sometimes I go there - it is absolutely b eautiful. And they also put in a walking path about 2 miles from my house. So to walk that path and back, I easily get in 5 miles. But I don't necessarily do it for the exercise, as for the quiet time alone, and I love it. My neighbor that I walk with is very nice, but, like your friend, talks a lot Sometimes though that is fun as it makes the walk go so fast, but, I'm not a gossiper, and I like just going myself!

You will quickly get hooked on walking! I also miss the country, but we have a state park near us with a "biking" trail that I love to walk on, and also they recently put in a walking path about 2 miles from our house. But most nites I just walk the neighborhood. I love looking at people's gardens at just nature! If I don't get out walking I find that I miss it.3 -

Well... I definitely drank more than 2 cups of water by midnight (I think it was about 4, i'm peeing nonstop). Didn't eat a salad because I ate a yogurt and smart food popcorn (about 100 cal)---thinking I'd have my salad for later...only to get a upset stomach from the yogurt. The plus is I haven't eaten chocolate either then lol! So, with that,I'm not too hard on myself.
