I took the cake out of the oven a bit early because it was smelling 'done' and sometimes it's a bit crisp around the edges. I did test it with a skewer. I think the middle is probably a bit moist. Very slightly sunk. But I'm sure it will taste delicious.
I've been online looking at pre-prepared finger sandwiches and roulades for the party in May. They deliver. Of course it costs more. Haven't decided. Don't know how many are coming yet, but it is mid afternoon so I don't need a lot of food, just a token offering to go with the cake. The important thing is the cold mini sausages I will have cold for the kids. Edie could eat any number of them. And salami. !!!!!!!!!!!!
I've got to save some time and energy for lunches, dinner and breakfast catering for close family who are staying over. Can freeze all that.
I might go with DH to watch cricket on Sunday. He will be watching for four days, but his friend is not going on Easter Sunday. He has one guest ticket. (He is a member) I will leave early to get my delicious organic chicken in the oven with roasted vegetables. Will have carrots, onions, parsnips and fennel. Potatoes for DH. LOVE roasted parsnips and fennel.
Then I will go back to collect him.

Good afternoon! I will try to post the stuff that for some odd reason, fell into the black hole of technology. My sib picture:
Pictured from back row left to right: My Aunt Carol holding me (about two years old), my Aunt Susie holding my recently passed sister Denise (1 1/2 yr old), front row left to right: my older brother Kevin (about 9), oldest brother Michael, who, if you look really close, will see him pinching me! (age 10 1/2) and my older sister Shannon (age 7). My youngest brother hadn't been born yet. He is five years younger than I; and like my younger sister is adopted (they are actually half siblings). I love to look at all of your sibling/family pictures. It is fun to see the resemblances (or not) and to still recognize the "little girl sparkle" in so many of you, still!
The flowers- Can't remember who posted them (Margaret maybe?) They are stunning! I loved the azalea! I can't wait until my azalea and roses start blooming. Waiting for the forsythia to take off then I can prune the azalea and hopefully get some better color this year than last! I do miss Miriam and all of her gardening advice...
Lanette- LOVE the jokes! The naked lady in the car and the child commenting on the seat belt reminded me of how kids process things. Like talking to pre-schoolers or elementary aged kids about sex. We just need to remember that sometimes they just want the simplest answer; not the whole story. Like: "Where do babies come from?" Most kids just want to know where they grow; not necessarily how they are made.
Meal planning - Some one was talking about how arduous and stressful meal planning is. I fell ya! It really is; when you first start. I felt like planning my meals was the worst form of punishment, until about three/four weeks in. Then I already had some "established" meals and I could repeat some of those and only come up with something new once or twice a week. Many of the ladies on here eat the same thing every day. Or perhaps the same thing for one or two meals every day. I tend to have three breakfasts that I stick to (when I am good and sticking to my plan). Lunch is usually a "leftover from the dinner before, but with veggies added. Dinner is a bit trickier since my family doesn't eat the same way I do; so we usually have the same protein/meat, they will have some sort of starchy carb and a veg, while I will have two veggies. I have to limit my carbs. Although I count calories on mfp, my meal plan follows macros. So I have a certain number I have to meet for each meal. (37 protein, 17 carb, and 2-5 fat) Some of my veggie carbs are considered "free" under my meal plan. That means we can add up to a cup of them to any meal and because they are so low in calorie, sugar, etc. It's still okay. Free carbs for me are things like Spinach, lettuces, greens, broccoli, zucchini, cucumbers. I love all of those, so they always make it easy to shop and get in my "pound a day of veggies". " Pound a day" is also another way you can help yourself make healthy choices. I got this gem of an idea from some of the ladies on this site. Pre wash and prep/weigh your pound of veggies for each day and store them in a ziploc. I do label all of my meals, veggies, etc. It makes my DH laugh, that I live in fear that he would eat my veggies. (If only! The man lives on mayonnaise!)
Well, kids are beginning to wake up. I did try to share the latest pic of Joaquin. IF you are all not too sick of looking at him...
It was taken right after DD got him cleaned up from his first diaper "blow-out"! She called me frantic, wondering how to clean him up and get his clothes off him without getting the "ICK" everywhere! Lol! He looks quite pleased with himself!

Oh my, Cheri- Do you look like your mama!!?? Do people tell you that a lot?1

This was weigh-in day for me. Down 1.9 pounds for a total of 43.4 pounds. I was delighted that the trip to the jazz festival was not detrimental to my downward trend. I know I will plateau eventually, but for now weighing and logging everything is really working. I was happy with my choices. I went with smaller portions, but confess that I did indulge in tartar sauce twice with lake fish. Instead of ordering a dessert, I was happy with a couple of spoonfuls of my DH's mousse. I am entering my 14th week and am as motivated as ever.
Margaret: The flower photos were beautiful.
Lanette: Pottery is also one of my passions. I found a beautiful serving bowl with a rugged black exterior and a gorgeous turquoise glaze in the interior.
Carol: I hope the shots will soon reduce the knee pain.
Welcome to everyone who is new to the group.

Kelly ~ Joaquin is such a handsome happy looking little boy. No, we don't get tired of the pictures.
Cheri ~ You and your daughter do look like twins.
Everyone ~ Loved seeing all your sibling pictures. Unfortunately, I don't think we had any of us 5 growing up. Guess my parents were too busy doing their thing to take them.
Got the lawn mowed and fertilized today. No, I didn't do it. Hope the fescue will do well after all the drought days of last summer.

Love seeing all your pictures and seeing part of your life.
Power washing done today. He even worked real hard on our porch. He said that the eggs were gone today. I took the mess of a nest and put in the trashcan. There was a robin walking around. We gave him our color swatches today. We looked at them out in the sun and along with our present color. The burgandy tooks terrible! He also suggests that we go with the red color of the prepainted gutters. Wegave him permission to go ahead and pick the right red that will go along with the grey we picked out. He hopes to start on it tomorrow. So I have to make sure I get a before picture today.
OK, here are some more sibling pictures. The first is one from a Mother's Day that we all were in town.Norma and I are always in town but my two brothers were here. There are some kids who haven't been born yet. I think Michelle is the youngest one. But in this picture, all the spouses are there along with Mom and Dad. I don't know if I have ever had a picture of Charlie, but he is the one that looks like a Mafia thug.
The next picture is one of just several years ago. My brother John isn't in it. We ahd kind of impromtu moment that my brother Paul, Norma and I all met in Louisville for lunch. I think I am at my lowest weight loss of 60 pounds. It's the one I cropped out for my profile picture here. Norma has a really bad back and the one yesterday and this one, she is trying so hard to smile because she hurts so much. She used to be 5'8" and is now about 5'3"

feeeline: "I'm interested in anyone's thoughts on this. With our aging bodies... there are times we're working on our health using the tools at our disposal and it's a double edge sword."
Our aging bodies are certainly a focus of our lives, but working on better health is important. As to double-edged sword- I've learned a lot since I started here. The good news is that I have a lot more control over my health & my weight than I had in the past. Time is one thing I consider a frienemy-- I'm aging on the clock/calendar, but since I'm living smarter I'm also getting healthier and more youthful.
Mary & Cheri: You & your sibs are handsome groups. I envy people with siblings. :flowerforyou:
Cheri: Your daughter has an amazing resemblance to you. The twin shirts help that perception.
Tomorrow DH has an eye appointment and we are hoping he will get a prescription for new glasses. He'd like to have had them last week, but there will be something of a wait. I'm not sure how long.

my DH has been on Predisone for RA for over 20 years, he's at around 7 mg per day right now - started off treatment with a year of Methotrexate which seemed to stop it in its tracks. I knew some folks who were taking 20 or more mg of prednisone for their RA for years. DH's main side effects are the thinning skin and upset stomach - so he's been on omeprazole for years as well....not too good as it's been implicated in dementia, but so far so good.
I'm on xeralto, so I get the omeprazole too (something to do with not bleeding out of my gut!). Not surprised at all to hear it's implicated in dementia. I've been working on a knitting project with my knee not working, and I can't remember where I am in the pattern from one second to the next.
I was on 40 mg of the prednisone until I started wheezing. The regular old ordinary "i'm eating a lot, and gaining weight fast" was accompanied by a savage surge of water weight. I'm now down to 25 mg. Huge relief but I still appear to be 234 months pregnant.
And the hunger... (sigh) honestly feels like there is no combating it at times. Strangely... gum seems to help as much as anything. Wish my knee would let me go for a walk!
Weird thing.. even though i have an auto immune disorder, I always felt so lucky for good health. Until I blew the knee out in January, I worked a VERY physical job, full time. Before that I had a little hobby farm. It's nuts how fast this has had to change.
But... adapt I will! I'm doing it right now!
And hey, here's a sibling picture... not quite all of us. My two sisters, my younger brother, me and my niece and a little one who I'm not sure who it is slipping through the frame.
Thanks guys, for listening. I sort of live alone, a party of one so to speak, and it's just so good to "hear" other voices.

Love love love the family pics.
Ginger I used your trick to clean really awful grout- worked like a charm. Big check marks on my my spring cleaning list. Never ending but, half the yard is raked and half the garden ready for planting, exercised and walked into town for an early dinner with a new friend. Which is something i am proud of, making a new friend not the walking part. Interesting lady, she has been a nurse for 40'years but wants to be a violin teacher now that she is retiring from school nursing--I think she will be fantastic and am helping her make connections--she is super nice and her courage to do something new is inspiring to me

Today... has been a DAY. Helping a friend. A bit more than I expected.
Don't know how bad I've wrecked my diet. Big Mexican food lunch. It would've been okay - I had grilled fish and bacon wrapped jalapeño/shrimp. With a cheese enchilada and rice and nice crisp veggies - broccoli, cauliflower, squash, carrots, mushrooms. But... chips and salsa. I enjoyed it though.
Left home at 9:30am. It's 5pm and I'm still 80 miles from home - and I'll be hitting Houston's rush hour traffic.
If I eat anything else tonight... it'll be salad. I am TIRED. And thirsty...

Hello all: Welcome to all the newcomers! I was on prednisone for about 4 years but have been off for almost a year now except for two small bursts. I found that it caused carb cravings and for me sleeplessness and stomach problems. I was on PPI and ambien for the side effects. I am very glad to be off of it for now but pulmonologist says this is a remission and when the sarcoidosis returns he will put me on methotrexate. Not looking forward to that. In the meantime doing all I can to enjoy life and very slowly losing some weight.
Enjoying all the sibling pictures. Keep them coming.

wessecg – Probably the same way my Daddy survived 4 females in the house; 'he only used the seat in the ‘down’ position ½ of the time; we just had to get used to it'. Until the moved their bedroom downstairs after a major remodeling. One night when my sister and her family were up visiting; she emptied a dirty diaper in the toilet and left it to soak. I went in to use the bathroom (which by that time I was the only one using it) and sat down, then flushed it, and realized something was going down that should not have done so. The next morning we woke up to my Daddy ‘cursing like a sailor’. We went down and the ceiling with florescent lights covered by 9 panels of decorated Plexiglas was ruined. He asked me what happened and I told him that there was a diaper in it when I flushed it and I did not notice it until it was ‘too late’. My oldest sister got ‘crawled’ for ruining the ceiling and told her to ‘never’ leave another damn diaper in the toilet. WHOOPS!!!
Heather – I’m sure you’ve heard the story of the woman whose cake had fallen that she was taking to the church bazaar; so she puts Kleenex in the center and puts the top back on the cake, puts icing on it and tells her husband to go buy it before anybody else did. The next day she goes to the preacher’s wife’s house for ‘tea’ and there was her cake. She knocked it off the table so that the preacher’s wife would not cut into it.
Lanette – True story: My Daddy was an attorney so getting calls at all hours was not unusual. We had just sat down for lunch, after getting home from church; the phone behind me rang as I was about the start the ‘blessing’. I turned and grabbed the phone and picked it up and said, “God is Good”... Realizing what I had done, I slammed the phone back down on the receiver. Mother and Daddy were about to be RITFL – tears coming out of their eyes they were laughing so hard. Mother said, "Well that should sober up the person in the ‘drunk tank’. And that was his ‘one call’." The phone rang again, and Daddy picked it up laughing so hard he could barely talk. It was the Sheriff asking him, if we had gotten a call a few minutes earlier. Daddy told him what had happened. I got teased about that ‘every’ Sunday before I said the ‘blessing’. I would not say it for a while.
Cheri – I share a birthday with 1st cousin, she is 3 years younger; DOS shares a birthday with 2 of his uncles on both sides of the family. One was his 50th birthday; the other somewhat older. We gave “Cracker” DOS’s birthdate because when we got her in October, both vets she was taken to said she was about 4 months old.
Another true (funny story). My step-daughter was visiting with us shortly after DOS was born. She was doing a good job helping me. She was 11-years-old; and, he was crying so she came in and got him out of the bassinet at the end of our bed and turned around and put him on the changing table. She undid the diaper and I told her; ‘don’t remove his diaper until you are about ready … [he pees in her face] … to put the clean diaper on him. She wiped him with a cloth; and leaned over to get another diaper from under the bed of it; and, looked at him and said, ‘Oh, $#*T – and he squirted projectile diarrhea from where he was about 3’ and hit the inside of the door. I was still lying in bed and laughing so hard at the look on her face. She had tried so hard to be a help; and, I told her it could have just as easily happened to me. She did not know that little boys could pee that distance.
