May the Run be with you. OK, kinda dorky, I know. But it is May (in a few days) and it's that time for a new running challenge. I am posting this one a little earlier since I am heading up to Louisville tomorrow morning for the Kentucky Derby Festival Marathon on Saturday. With such a busy weekend ahead of me, I figured I might as well post this early.
If you found us in the middle of the month, you're still welcome to join us. No requirements or special invite needed. Once you post, you're in.
You set your own pace and distance for the month. We will all be doing it together. This is your virtual running group to keep you accountable and enjoy a virtual coffee with your fellow runners after you run. Make new friends and learn a few things.
Hi everyone. This is a continuation from the April 2017 Running Challenge which can be found at:
http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10535947/april-2017-running-challenge
Anyone can join in. New & Old. And if you found this thread late, you can join in at any time.
We have members that are total beginners all the way to Boston Qualifiers and beyond. We are a friendly and encouraging bunch.
Here are the details from last month that applies here again.
Anybody want to join me for a running challenge? Set a goal here and mark it every day here. OPTIONAL: You can post your progress by creating a ticker at http://www.tickerfactory.com (If creating one seems difficult, then don't let that stop you. Just type in your daily miles here.)
You can run, walk, or do treadmill. Just be consistent. I am setting a goal for 125 miles again as I am recovering from my marathon. Don't let my high (or low) goal intimidate you. Some can do 25, 50; whatever you like. We can help motivate each other. What do you say? If you are new to running, set a low goal. (You can also log your miles in km's if you choose.) Also, if you rather log your progress by time rather than distance, you are free to do that as well.
You can set your goal now but wait until Monday May 1 to start logging your runs.
Also, don't forget to join our group which can be found at:
http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/21182-monthly-running-challange
There you will find lots of good info, and it's a place where everyone can talk to each other for further motivation. It's also a place to find help when there is a problem with this thread.
After you run, come into this thread and post what you did. (don't forget to hit the star in the upper right corner to bookmark this thread) Keep a running tally of what you did this month, and interact with the others. Many folks come in here and chat it up even on their rest days or while recouping from injury. This is a very social group and we talk about many things to include running. Very friendly bunch here so don't be afraid to say hi (even if this is your first time). Talk about a recent race or one coming up. Ask questions, provide answers, or just learn. Participation is what makes this group successful.
Not quite sure how to log your runs, follow what many other people are doing. Even look at last month's thread that I posted above.
*******OPTIONAL TICKER*************
Info on tickers since I know there will be questions. Sign up for an account http://www.tickerfactory.com and create your ticker.
Then you need to update it after you do a run and post it here. Here is what you will need to do.
After setting up your ticker, you will need to make note of the weblink they give you so you can return. An example would be:
http://www.tickerfactory.com/exercise/w6K1EiX/ <<<< the last part will be a part of the image link (explained below) that will be supplied to you after you initially create your link.
When you return to TickerFactory with the weblink, go to your settings page. Make sure you type your pin in that you set when you created your ticker account.
Then where it says "Your current cumulative value, there is an add button. Just add what you just did and the cumulative value automatically changes. Then hit next.
Now after you added your new miles (or km's) to your ticker you need to post it here.
After you hit next, it will give you a bunch of codes suggesting on how to display your ticker.
Use the one at the bottom where it says Direct Image URL:
It will look something like:
http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/t/w6K1EiX/exercise.png
To display that correctly in your post, make sure you place the img tags around that link. So it will look, (removing the spaces in the img tags):
[ img ] http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/t/w6K1EiX/exercise.png [ /img ]
^^^^^^^ Don't forget to remove the spaces between the brackets. ^^^^^^^^^^
Some key things to pay attention to when posting your ticker.
1: Use the link that ends in .png
2. Remember the [ img] and [ /img] tags go in between the link
3. remove the spaces in the img tags before posting
4. YES, there is a / in the second /img tag
Good luck! And happy running (or walking or treadmilling, ect). If you have any trouble or have questions, please feel free to PM me.
By the way, everyone here is a runner (unless you find a dead body- then you're a mere jogger).

Am I first? Didn't hit April goal. May is my first ever HM but going to cross train after to get away from my calf niggle. Goal to be decided.10
-
May already? Where is the year disappearing to?
Count me in for 225 miles this month.8 -
Gonna go with a small increase over April. 130 miles.5
-
I'm going for 100 comfortable safe miles. I'm going to go for more hills to up my speed since I have a bunch of short races this summer.5
-
OK, fine, twist my arm, I'm in! Count me in for 180 miles.7
-
Jeez, I'm getting in late on this. Going for 220 miles.6
-
You're all so intense but it looks like if I want to improve my running in preparation for a half marathon this is the place to be!! I'm going to go for a measly 70 miles for this month.11

I did not reach April's mileage goal, mostly because of runner's knee. It got so bad that I saw a dr., put together a plan, and am now working on recovery. I fully expect the coming weeks to be difficult, but I also need to train for my first HM on June 24.
April goal: 60 miles.4 -
My training program has me doing 137 miles for the month of May. Yikes! I'm determined though - but my primary goal is to be able to run the miles without getting hurt.

I guess I will set an official goal for mileage this month. I was happy with so far reaching my goal of running consistently 3x/week in April..so I guess I could consider that as a goal I obtained. For May, I will aim for 63 miles. Ahhh that sounds scary right now but I know I can do it!6
-
My goal for May is 6.2 miles.
That's it.
I'm signed up for a 10K trail race in May but other than that, I've decided that my running in May will not be planned. I'm just going to run for fun.
By not have a goal mileage (the 6.2 was just a joke) I'm hoping it will allow me to finally get started on a regular strength routine and perhaps some yoga too. I feel like that's where I can make the next big improvement in my running.
I'll still run, and I hope I can still keep up with the long runs frequently enough that I can continue to do them. Throughout the summer I'm not going to plan any races because we'll be on the boat as much as possible, but if I find a weekend with a forecast that would keep us from sailing, I want to be in good enough shape to run a 25K or 50K trail race, or perhaps a half or full road marathon.

I didn't have a goal last month due to all my anxiety issues and outpatient treatment, and I also got sidelined with that hip injury, so April was not a good month for me as far as running. Walking was another story, LOL. I logged quite a few walking miles.
My main goal for May is to rehab my hip and get back to my previous level of running. Not sure how many miles that will include, but I always keep a soft goal of 100 miles each month. Let's see how close I can get!7 -
60 miles for me6

I suppose I will go for my usual 75 for May! Haven't made it the last three months but May is it! Or June.8

I'll go.... Umm 50... That's less than April but we have Alex's graduation and a bit of a vaca in Savannah GA.5

I'm down for my 169 (working on running the year!). So far, so good.5

I'll go.... Umm 50... That's less than April but we have Alex's graduation and a bit of a vaca in Savannah GA.
We were close to picking Savannah for a road trip this summer but instead we're going to the Outer Banks of NC. And the Smoky Mountains.
Of course, this will involve trail running. I'm hoping to talk my boys into going with me.5 -

Aww. "Missed it by that much".
Savannah is close to Ft Benning and on the coast. DH wants to see the Atlantic. I think there are acceptable (potential running trails) for me. Then we're (supposed to be) saving for Rome or something of the sort.

Ummm my May is looking a bit crazy. But mostly because my best friend/running buddy is a bit crazy.
May 6th Greenland Trail Races- (8 mile edition)
May 20th??? I think??? - said friend has us roped into a 5k of some kind
May 29 Bolder Boulder 10K
June 4 (still practically May, right??) Mickelson Trail (half)marathon
Unless I decide to eek out 7 miles after driving for 6 hours tomorrow, I will fall a bit short of April's 100 miles. Which is fairly impressive given how random that number truly was. But shooting for it has been good motivation. So, I shall try it again.
100 miles for May.4 -
I'm way behind you guys!! But I'm on my last day of c25k tomorrow, and hope to do a 5k 3 times a week from now on... so 60k for May What's that in miles ???? c.40????

I'm really happy I discovered this group a few months ago -- it's done wonders for my motivation & running education! I'm down for another 100 miles in May!9
-
-
I almost forgot... May marks ONE YEAR that I've been taking part in the Running Challenges! This group has done wonders for my motivation. Now I just have to suck it up and do a real race.12
