Kelly, During my zillion years of teaching grade one in public school in the PNW where it rains a lot, I told myself that once I had a life without a classroom of kids to supervise indoors on rainy days, I'd never again complain about the rain. So now, I walk the dogs every day, rain or shine and remember to be grateful that I'm not supervising children.

Heather Is that like IQ? Emotional Intelligence? or something similar? My son apparently interviews well.1

Happy Hump Day Peeps!
To start off today, check out this photo of the earth allegedly taken by the Hubble. That might be correct as it's equipped with all kinds of lenses and filters:
So exciting to read about kids getting jobs! As I think back, most of my jobs have been the result of friendships and/or referrals. Getting a foot in the door and exhibiting good attitude and work ethic was magical in that sense. DH managed to land good jobs by his technical knowledge of electronics and good math skills which transferred well into the early computer world. He was a HS drop-out who got his GED and the equivalent of an associate's degree while in the USMC. He also had good BS skills, lol.
I think today will be the first of many days of complaining it's too hot! Supposed to get near 80 today - we'll open the windows and let lots of pollen laden air blow thru the house, lol. It will be worth it. I have a lot on my "to do" list - we have 2 days before a rainy Thursday afternoon and Friday come around. Next week sounds perfect tho, sunny and highs in the 60's.
Barbie, you are so right about now appreciating the opportunity to be able to get out and walk in the rain instead of watching it from inside the classroom. Every day I can be outside when I want is another day I am so grateful I retired.
Have a good day ladies!!

PaulaY: Where do you live that has so many spitters? I agree that it is a disgusting habit. Do they chew tobacco?
Becca: Good luck to your DH. I hope they are able to get rid of all of the lesions without making his poor head too sore. Do you plan to travel via highway 30 or 26? We'll be on 30 this morning because I have an appointment with the eye doctor at 8 am. What a nasty time of day to be on the road. Who knows, perhaps we'll miss the early rush and the 9am rush. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for us and for you. :flowerforyou:
It seems we're leaving early. I'll be back later today.

I just ran across an interesting article on healthy ways to use the freezer... I never thought of several of them, like freezing pre-soaked dry beans for cooking later. I freeze a lot of cooked beans for soups - but freezing them at that intermediate step has merit.
Also, freezing whole greens for stir-fries If I get serious about this I'll have to clean out my freezer, or at least rearrange it. Hope I can post the link:

Becca and Katla, good luck with the Portland area traffic. I drove to Olympia yesterday and even dreaded that. Can't believe I did the Seattle commute from the east side for many years - of course a lot less traffic and I think there were fewer distractions then. I used to joke I could read a book, smoke a cigarette and drive stick in I-90 in rush hour traffic. Talk about multi-tasking, lol.
Stephanie - welcome and great goals!
Chris in MA - if I lived in town, that would be my dream back yard. How gorgeous and peaceful!
Got my walk in, now time to hit the potting shed and get some transplanting done - yarrow and red poppies - these are annuals, the "Poppy Day" type.

morning peeps
it's supposed to be a nice day today. if it is, i just might ride home from work today... already burned over 750 cal. so the ride home might be 400, we'll see.. took my light windbreaker jacket out for the first time this year. kirby took out one of his summer bikes out yesterday and retired his winter bike, so now we're both riding faster.
later peeps and welcome new ones.
hugs to those who need them
congrats to those that deserve them!
strappin on the boot to those who should have them!!
and well.... you know the drill.

Just wanted to share what I rewarded myself with for my 20 pound weight loss! After much deliberation I chose the following: 2 new pairs of workout capris (Walmart), strength training gloves (Amazon) and a quilt ruler holder (Amazon) which I have been eyeing for many years! Oh how many times I have mislaid those rulers!

Happy Two Different Colored Shoes Day!
Joyce - Your quilts are beautiful! The simple color scheme is so soothing. I love quilts too, and have several. They've all been boxed up since our series of moves, but I need to acquire some good quilt hangers and get them on the walls.
Sue - We're in the same boat with the landscaping. Our house is surrounded on four sides by various shrubs, and it looks like the previous owner didn't do any maintenance for the ten years he lived here! We need to spend every weekend working on a section, and by the time we're done we'll need to start over again on the first spot.
Lisa - The new job sounds like a fulfilling challenge. I really love working with non-profits. It feels like my work is contributing to something that makes the world better.
Kelly - Your observations about the "Can money buy happiness?" segment reminded me of an article I saw yesterday. It explained the physicial changes poverty causes to our brains due to the constant focus on staying afloat. Interesting stuff.
Lanette - Thank you for sharing the Hubble telescope photo. What a beautiful planet!
Cheri - Nice rewards! Congratulations!
Welcome to the newcomers!
Philip and I planned to do the game where you get rid of something away every day - one item on the 1st, two on the 2nd, and so on. But we're already behind. I'll count the riding mower as one, even though it went out the week before we officially started, but we missed yesterday so this evening we have to buckle down and let go of five items. I suspect that at the moment, finding the time to look at stuff is going to be harder than actually letting go... not sure why we picked the single busiest month of the year to do this!

Chris ~ Love that patio. It would be nice to sit out there in the morning with coffee or in the evening with a glass of wine.
Lanette ~ What grade did you teach? I taught 5th for most of my 30 yrs.
Sharon ~ Sorry about your back pain. What kind of business do you work in?
Cheri ~ Nice reward! Enjoy and keep up the good work.
Kelly ~ It looks as though you woke up to a better day with the kiddies!
Took the Pom to be groomed and can't wait to see him in his puppy cut for summer. His fur was so long it was filled with beggar lice and he was getting food in his chest hair. Will post a pic this afternoon.
Also, took a trunk load of clothes and shoes to the Good Will. Some were new but turned out to be the wrong size and never got worn. I'm bad!

Happy 30 Hwy travels to you my friend! Hope everything goes smoothly with the eye appointment. We took hwy 26, and though it was kinda foggy, it was light. It was a bit stop and go as we approached the tunnel, but not too bad. We have an appointment at the River front part of OHSU, and presently sipping a coffee latte' with an extra shot!
Hugs

Carol, I wasn't a teacher I mostly worked in the Seattle seafood business, then managed a 911 Center, then retired from a Public Works Roads/Water Utility/Engineering Administrative Assistant position. I got to do a lot of varied and fun stuff.
I admire folks who get into a career field and love it and stick with it. I tend to get bored easily and have a low BS threshold so seemed like after 7 years I'd really get ready to do something else, lol.
My DH taught at private vocational schools and community colleges. He was glad to retire from public teaching - even tho it was college level, he couldn't be quite as authoritarian as he liked to be and also had to be more "PC". Students who wanted to learn in his class really appreciated him cracking the whip, lol.
What's beggar lice? Sophie had her haircut last Friday - hoping the cold winter killed off most of the fleas!

Good morning!
Got sidetracked this morning; a storm is rolling thru our region with heavy rain and lightning! What a show! I love storms as long as there aren't any tornado warnings!! Oh great! Flash flood warning again!
I skipped breakfast but had a pizza brunch! I had an orange and coffee, so I will correct myself and move on! The calories weren't so bad but the fat and carbs are really high not to mention the crust is so bad for my digestion.
I did lose a little bit. I can't tell, my scale is an old style. I need to pick one up that is accurate and digital.
••Can anyone suggest a brand of scale??
A levee broke this morning at Pocahontas, AR, on the Black River. The whole area is under water. Please pray for their community.
Becca I hope your DH heals quickly from the MOHS surgery! I've had several of those...
Lisa Congrats on the job. I'm so happy for you!
It's raining still

Dana, is that an indoor/outdoor carpet you have on your deck? We've been looking for something to replace our old worn one - our deck gets so slippery. Lanette1

Hello friends,
Beautiful day here in Tennessee. So sorry for all the flooding in Arkansas. Did y'all see the pictures of the snow in Kansas City the other day. Oh, my, such crazy weather!
Had a quick discussion with hubby and found out our situation is worse than I thought. I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop. BUT while I wait for that I am eating healthy, staying under my calorie goals, decluttering, and working out. Keeping my head above water and so very thankful for this group!
Don't remember if I told y'all about my challenge with an antidepressant I have been on for 20 years. It really works for me! All of a sudden my insurance decides I can do with half of the dose I am taking. They have denied my claim. I am waiting for the doctor to appeal the decision or at least change my prescription to 1 a day or to another medication that insurance will cover. Right now I am on day 3 without anything and it will not be pretty if this goes on much longer. Wouldn't you know that this would all occur when I am facing such a relationship challenge! Thankfully my faith keeps me grounded. I believe God has got this!
Lanette - I love that picture of the Earth. It is magical!
Cheri - Great choices for a reward!
Leigh - Terrific NSV! Up, up, up you go (stairs, not your weight)!
Heather - Hope your hubby enjoys his outing and you enjoy some me time while he is gone.
Allie - prayers for you as you discuss your situation.

Gah! Made some pretzels with the kids to help fill our May Baskets; guess who ate TWO fresh out of the oven! WITH MUSTARD!!! I packaged up the rest, bagged up the ones that the kids will have for snack (into individual baggies with their names on them, to prevent me from being the creep who "steals candy/pretzels from a baby"!), and have removed myself from the kitchen. I also decided, I am full, and THAT will be my lunch with some tea to keep the edge off. I will have my planned lunch (tuna and romaine salad) for dinner. Bad Kelly! Thanks for the boot, Pip!4

Cheri- LOL! I saw your two pictures and my first thought, before reading the post, was "Wow! Cheri must be a hardcore seamstress! She wears work out gloves to sew!" You go girl! Nice reward!4

Yes Karen, Emotional Intelligence. My son can charm the birds out of the trees if he is so inclined. He also is a very hard worker and gives his all.
Cheri - Great that you treated yourself. So important.
I have done ok today. Eaten my veggie curry and I still have 334 calories left. That will be cheese and half an ounce of plain chocolate. No alcohol.
It's been a really miserable day weather wise. Poor DH. Not raining, but really dreary and chilly. Hampshire are not doing too well.
I've watched quite a bit of catch up tv. Currently watching a programme about new treatments for schizophrenia. Arm a bit sore. It's always worse in the evening.
Seeing my Portsmouth friend tomorrow. I'll be interested to hear the aftermath of my outburst. Did they talk about it? I'm going to discuss my future action with her.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxx

Waiting for the doctor to tell us he got it all. Husband said he needs a jewel for his turban! He's not happy. He is hoping this wrap will be switched out to a more manageable band aid!
Becca
Oregon5 -
Becca - he looks quite suave and debonair in his turban...
Dana - thanks! And I have a Weight-Watcher's digital - they're quite cheap on Amazon (http://amzn.to/2pINWb8) and I think I found the one I've got now at a Bed Bath and Beyond--I've had it for more than ten years, so they last as well. They also do body fat percentages, etc., which I have my doubts about being terribly accurate, but do a great job as a scale. They use watch batteries that are easy to find - and I think I've changed the batteries twice in ten years.
On the subject of getting jobs, all I can tell you is that, once I get to the interview stage in a job, I've almost always gotten the position. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Honestly couldn't tell you why--but I can tell you that the electronic world actually made it harder for those of us who do better in person than we look on paper. When you get hundreds of resumes for the position, it's easy to weed out all but the very top candidates, I guess.
I've always said that I am only a good salesperson when I truly believe in what I'm selling. I was horrible selling Avon--but then, everything they make breaks me out in a rash, and I'm too honest to answer the question any differently, if asked.
But I believe in myself, and my abilities.
Now if I could only translate that to belief in my ability to lose weight, I'd be a size two.
Later,
Love y'all!

Lanette I bought those at Walmart online. Free shipping too which is great since it's hard for us to haul things. They are patio carpets and last a long time as long as DD (darling dog) doesn't eat them. I have big rocks or stepping stones on the corners! I hope I can take the stepping off. I also have bought some at Lowes in the patio dept.
Lisa Thanks. I'll look for one on Amazon. I have Prime, so that will save me some cash on shipping.
Cheri Great choices! Better than a malt or candy bar!
Jobs: I have always gotten jobs on the first interview or during the interview!
It's still raining!
