5.51 out of 120 miles done today. Spreadsheet for August not quite ready to go yet.
Tonight was group speed workout. Half the track was in the shade and it felt pretty good just standing there before we started. But definitely hot and sweaty once we got going. A certain section of the track where I was staring directly into the setting (not fast enough) sun became a repeated torture, and then the relief of hitting the shade each lap. We did 5-7-3 minute intervals and with 3 minutes recovery between and then those of us doing HM training had 1 minute recovery and 1 more 5 minute interval. The marathoners repeated the 7 and 3 intervals also for two full sets. I was happy to stop! Then 4 sprints - which we did on the turf of the football field because the marathoners were still on the track. I felt like a football star running the length of the field! Weird footing though.
Finished up with some frozen grapes as a treat. And then I had key lime pie ice cream at home. Yay for working out!6 -
Finally off work.... no run for me... guess I will just eat this Double Chocolate Klondike Bar instead. Seems like a good trade off...8

Took some time off in July with a long vacation, but I am still on track for my year running total goal. I am aiming for 90 miles in August. My new running watch and heart rate monitor just arrived today (but I am not able to go for a run until Thursday due to work/call) so I will have to wait until then. Surely the new tech will help motivate me.

I am a newbie to the challenge, but not to running. Have been a on and off runner for past 20+ years.
I'm one of those dummies that's doesn't train for a race just shows up and hopes for the best. Even did a 1/2 marathon like that, ran it in 2 hrs and 20 min. I wouldn't recommend it. I was beyond sore for a week.
My first goal is to run everyday, even if only 1 mile. The second is to run 90 miles this month. My third is to be #1 in my age group in the turkey trot in Buffalo NY this year. Watch out 35-40 year olds I'm coming for you. Lol. I believe all of this can be achieved if I just stick to it and not let life keep me from getting moving.10 -
My plans for a run were foiled due to car troubles. I may have to skip my run tomorrow so I can replace the alternator in my wife's truck.

Spent the day traveling for work. 4 hr drive - stop for fuel, 3 hr drive - ( This part hurts ) 30 minutes of work - yes that's right 7 hours driving and 30 minutes to solve the problem. 3 hr drive back to the previous community and my Hotel room. Went out and stumbled through a 7.5 km run in High Level, AB. With all that driving I just felt really sluggish. A Real Estate Run. Not a Fan of sidewalks especially in the summer, but when you can't find an online map showing Trails its better than nothing.

@Elise4270 I'm not sure about your " Dec 2- POOP trail run, Hoping for a half!" especially Half a POOP - that usually gets me in trouble latter.
This is the exact benefit that I have received from joining our little club. Peer Pressure - Motivation - Guidance - Support.As I was walking around the track afterward to cool down, I remarked to a team mate that there was no way I would do this workout in this weather without the club. And that's true. It's why I joined the club, to have peer pressure that would get me to actually *do* the speed work. It's worked, even though right now I'm too much of a hypochondriac to do the workouts most of my team mates were doing.5 -
I can't believe it. August 1 and I am 7 pages behind.
Goal is 60 miles again. I was short 6 miles last month, but this month I will get it.
After returning from Grand Rapids, which is a beautiful city with a lot of genuinely friendly people, I had to work the next 3 nights, and was unable to complete my July goal.
Just finished working 3 night shifts in a row. 4 hours of sleep. Then meeting with my manager for my annual performance review. (She is the same manager who fired my friend. However, she is leaving the nursing profession to get married and move to Thailand.) Also had scheduled a mandatory in-service for the same day. I had planned to run in between these meetings but the first meeting was late due to poor time management on the part of the manager. Luckily the rain was supposed to be over later in the afternoon and it cooled the temperature enough to make the run pleasant.
I forgot my usual running toys, my stopwatch, my music. I am pretty sure that I was running in the zone. Originally wanted to run 4 miles, but I felt pretty good (after the first mile) and changed my mind to get the 6.

Hey @shanaber is it just too odd that 89 miles is 144km and they are both Fibonacci numbers? It's like the universe left a "hi there" for nerdy runners!

Not quite a coincidence. The Golden Ratio is an irrational number that the Fibonacci series approximates closer as the numbers get higher (i.e., 144/89 is closer to the Golden Ratio than 8/5), and [one mile] / [one kilometer] is approximately the Golden Ratio. But it's not exact, because the kilometer wasn't designed deliberately to be in that relationship with a mile.

Taking it easy in August as I have not been able to cross 100 km last month (Ran 80 km) and setting the goal of 75 km. Main focus would be weightlifting this month for me. Good luck to everyone with their goals!3

I also started thinking slightly beyond that for a half marathon to gauge where I can be compared with last year if I introduce some proper speed work back into my regimen. I think I am ready for it.
My niece lives in Charlotte and is wanting to run the Charlotte Half-marathon as her first half marathon in November. I told her that I would join her. The results form last year indicate that I could have easily won my age group by several minutes and could have taken second female in the masters division, so I thought it sounded like a pretty good goal to strive for.
Beyond that, I would also like to do a spring marathon. First I will have to wait and see if my time from Boston this year is good enough to get me back there. If, by some chance it is, I told my husband that I plan on applying for Big Sur through the Boston to Big Sur entry. This will be a difficult challenge since they are only two weeks apart, but Big Sur has always been a bucket list of mine and is a pretty hard lottery to win. However, chances of getting in go up dramatically if you run Boston and commit to running both of those marathons. If, by some chance, that actually became a reality, I would be walking a good deal of that marathon and soaking up all of the beautiful scenery! If my BQ time does not hold up, I think I will do the Flying Pig for the third time. It is the 20th anniversary and they are planning to give commemorative jackets to all of the finishers of the full marathon. Given that it is my hometown race and first full marathon, I think that would be a pretty cool thing to have.
Sorry so long winded, but I just wanted to get that all down in writing since it has been churning over in my mind. Glad to be getting (really) back into the swing of things. I missed you guys! Also happy to see some old friends back this month: @7lenny7 , @kristinegift and @5512bf. Can't wait to get back on track with you!
Oh, going to set a goal of 100 miles for this month. Planning on 4 days running per week in August and hopefully ramping up to 5 in September. Also planning on sticking with the P90X3 and strength training on my running days (except my long run) and swimming on 2 of my non-running days. That's my plan and I'm (hopefully) sticking to it!

I'm planning my first marathon at the end of August. I had a glute/hamstring problem for 6 months, and it was fixed early last month by two sessions of deep tissue massage a week apart. Amazing!

I'm in! Sheesh! Only Aug 2 and 7 pages of posts. I will try to review them all, but I can't promise.
So, I didn't make my goal for July - I was a teeny tiny bit lazy a couple of times so I probably over estimated since I try to do my karate lessons 4 days a week and I'm pretty busy other than running. My hopeful spreadsheet shows I want to do 39 miles in August, but I am going to make my target 30 miles. I'm still a pretty new runner so this seems appropriate and it is still more than I actually ran in July.
Ran 2.5 miles Aug 1outside - I'm trying to get outside more, but temperature is an issue. It's much more interesting outside, but I also am finding it is a little more difficult due to terrain and I don't have a machine setting pace for me. Map my fitness says I did the 2.5 miles at a 9:37 pace which is a little fast for me and probably why I just ran out of steam at 2.5 miles. I'd planned to go 3 but oh well, that's all I had

I tried to keep my heart rate in the "moderate"/recovery zone but oh boy it was hard. I started off fine staying in the low-mid 150s but the more fatigued I got (thanks, Monday lifting + Tuesday track workout!) the harder it was to keep my HR under 160. I even had to take a couple walk breaks to get my HR back down! Trying really hard to keep my easy days very easy. Tempo run tomorrow!

Today's notes: 6.1 miles at 9:26 pace, average HR 151. In z1 and z2 90% of the run. Run felt good. Today was an easy day, tomorrow is another double, with 3-4 on the ski hills in the AM.

August was off to a flying start with a rest day yesterday because I was at Fenway Park shovelling Italian sausage and plenty of beer into my face. There would have been a photo, but I was too hungry to wait.
Tonight however, I will be making up for that indulgence and have got a leisurely 6.2 miles planned. I'll probably take a couple of days away from running on Thursday and Friday and do something else. And then Saturday is race day. Rain is forecast so that should make the 80+ deg temperatures a little easier to bear.6 -

8/1 - Rest/sick day - feeling better, but not sure running would have been good. Hoping for tomorrow.

@Sliedur You'll eventually get a feel for pace, just make sure you keep things nice and slow (especially in the summer heat) while you become accustomed to what you can comfortably do. Running outdoors is sooo much better than the treadmill, in my opinion.
Yesterday morning was spent at the court house due to a jury summons, and because I had no idea how long my day was going to be, I opted not to get up early to do my regular run. The good news is that my name wasn't one of the 105 names that were called out, so I'm free to do my runs as usual now...and the bonus is that that summons still counts as me having performed my civic duty of jury service, so no more summons from the county for at least three years now.
This morning was a steady slow 13.5 miles. The temperature was a lot cooler than it's been recently (73F), but the dew point was still uncomfortable at 72F...it had rained during the night but it was already starting to feel very muggy again by the time I got out. Pace-wise things were real slow, averaging at 10:43 min/mi, but that translated into a very low heart rate: 134 bpm on average, which is the upper side of Zone 1 (warm-up).
I did get to see a baby skunk running around, which looked super cute, but I didn't want to hang around to take a picture because that probably meant that momma was lurking around somewhere, and I didn't want to piss momma off.

Roughly 60 miles, it's a 100k, but closer to 60 than the 62 for full 100k... trail races are a little harder to get certified distance... yeah, out and back on the south end of the Superior Hiking Trail2 -

I got in an 8 miler this am. Trying to get my regular run up to 9-10. Felt good stayed in zone 2 for all but the steep part of the largest hill.
@KatieJane83 survey is just a few questions and it will take almost no time to complete
@BruinsGal_91 Wow! you saw a great game. Did you stay till the end? Bet there were a few empty seats for the ninth. I was there to see the walk-off BB against the Yankee's last month. That might have been the best game until last night.

@karllundy Well most months so far this year have been in the 100-120 zone. Last month was just over 150. And now I'm finally getting off my butt and actually training We'll see how my body feels getting back to last fall's training volume!1 -
