Tere: Chicken would go well. I think I would poach the chicken in the broth (perhaps doubling the quantity to allow for evaporation), prepare the rest of the recipe as indicated with the original amount of the broth and add the chicken after the soup has been blended. You can use remaining broth little by little to thin to the consistency you like.
Lenora: the bullying story is heartbreaking. Children can be so cruel! The school was wrong to limit the discussion to the one class.
Re: What an amazing and beautiful change! You are inspiring!
Josephine: I hope you get some relief from the pain soon!
Gloria in Wa: What a beautiful photo of you with your daughters!
Chantele63: Welcome to the group!
I am going to be erratic posting for a couple of weeks. My youngest son is coming for a week and will overlap with another visitor. Amidst that, we are trying to get our house here ready for a three month stay in Oregon. We leave this coming Friday.
We have a young British couple, who work via the internet, coming to be housesitters. We don't pay anything, they don't pay anything. A win-win! We have someone to look after our cat, the house and garden; they get free rent. The only down side is that we have to leave everything really well organized and even cleaner that we keep it normally. Housework is not my favorite activity, so I tend to ignore the spots on the windows and the dust behind the heavy furniture. My DH and I have divided up the tasks, so it is not so bad. Our son is staying a week after we leave and I am going to try to get someone to come in and clean after him. I love him to pieces, but our idea of clean and tidy is not quite the same!

Saturday -- Today we decided to ride a Permanent called the Bruny Island Lighthouse Dash. 120 km.
We knew it was a bit hilly, and we knew that there was about 50 km of gravel. So we took our touring bicycles which have the wider tyres and decent gears for climbing. We also dressed for the conditions while we were on the road, so that was good. Unfortunately my husband has been down with a cold/flu this week so we weren't sure how he would go.
The first part of the ride to Alonnah was fine. We've done it before on a number of occasions so there was nothing unexpected. It's a bit hilly but there's a decent amount of flat stuff too. And most of the road is sealed/paved.
Then we embarked on the 50 km of gravel. They've redone the road relatively recently, but we've had a lot of winter rain lately and one of the features of the road were series of deep potholes. We could not take our eyes off the road for anything. We'd be riding along on a decently well-packed gravel road, then suddenly, a set of about 20 of these potholes in a row ... right where we were cycling. We'd have to move out to dodge them ... into the path of the surprisingly heavy traffic who were kicking up fine dust all over us.
That continued right up to the point where there's a sign that says the council does not maintain the road from that point on. From that point on, it's a national park. Sadly, they don't maintain roads particular well. The last few km to the turn-around were a little scary, as they were after we turned around too.
Also, the last 10 km to the turn-around ... got seriously hilly. And of course, the 10 km back from the turn-around were equally as hilly. There are lots of 12% to 20% grades in that collection, and some decent grades elsewhere on the route as well.
We made it to the halfway point ... the lighthouse ... with 5 minutes to spare. My husband wasn't feeling well, and told me to go ahead and try to make the next control at Alonnah in time. I missed it by 10 minutes, and despite the fact that I tried my best up these hills, on dodgy gravel roads, I was only about 3 minutes ahead of him!
We decided to salvage the ride at that point ... and stop for lunch and hot coffees. Feeling some better, we finished the ride. Not within the ride time, but we made the last ferry back! In fact, we had about half an hour to wait ... and let me tell you, that was one cold wait.

Ladies I need some advice. My neighbour and friend of over 40 years is in a bad place, she is 85 and has mild Parkinsons, her DH and I don't mean dear is now in a care home with dementia and her son is bipolar (controlled by meds) She has lost all confidence and only goes alone to the local shop to buy newspaper and walk the dog. Her son does the main shop at the supermarket.
Her husband was a hoarder and she used to say that when he died the first thing she would do is empty the house. She visits him every other day. She told me she has just stopped phoning friends, nieces hasnt replied to letters etc. I think she is depressed but won't see the Dr
The house is a disgrace, she doesnt cook much they are living on takeaways and other rubbish. My DH said can we offer to go and help her clean the house, I have tentavely offered in the past to help with sorting stuff but she ignores that. The only break she gets is she comes to me on Friday night and we have a drink and a good chat but it's so sad to see the detoriation as she has always been funny and erudite and entertaining. I thought when that man had gone she would rally but she is now riddled with guilt and pity that he can't live at home.
I wonder if you have any suggestions as to how I can suggest she takes our offer of help because I'm sure she would feel better as she is just overwhelmed

Good morning!
Three deer ran across the back acre this morning. Hunting season will have them running even more, but they know it's safe down here between the houses so we'll see them more by the creek. When hunting season starts we hear gunshots all around us. The shots are further than it sounds but sometimes I'll go inside anyway.
Dolly came out of her kennel and jumped on the bed about 3 am. She cuddled up next to me but was dreaming I guess. She kept me awake until my DH got up at 4:30 am. He called her with him and closed our door. It was hard to go back asleep. I'm going to have to take the time to make her go back to her kennel next time. It could be a big problem for me. I have to get my sleep. Yesterday Callie, the neighbor dog went inside of Dolly's kennel. I don't think she appreciated Callie's smells in her kennel! I'm going to wash the cover today. That might help!
Allie one of our laptops died and I took it to Best Buy. (I have Quicken on mine too) I had a new hard drive installed. They managed to retrieve my data. It wasn't that much and I even doubled up the size of the new one. You might try taking it to a repair shop.
Tom must think you are stupid to trade off a onetime purchase of a laptop for temporary alimony. What a jerk!
Heather It sounds like you are enjoying yourself! I hope your DH feels better. Being seasick is the worst thing! I was out marlin fishing once 50 miles SW of San Diego. I could not go down under to use the bathroom. The water sloshing around in the toilet made me sick. I had to go up topside ASAP! As long as I can see the horizon I'm ok, but we were in between swells so you couldn't see the horizon all the time.
Becca Beautiful crepe myrtle tree! And your dinner looks delicious! I love Rice-A-Roni. I get the Mexican flavor quite often because my DH loves it and it's easy to make for a side dish. But it is hard not to over eat!
Glowormin That's a very lovely picture of you and your daughters! Very nice!
My DH and I are driving out to Lake Ouachita to eat lunch at Shangra-la Resort today. There is a great little cafe with lake views. They are famous for their homemade pies, but I intend to have a nice salad instead of evil pie! LOL!!
It may be raining this afternoon but it's always pretty driving out to the national forest.
Have a wonderful Saturday friends and track, track, track!!

Becca: That rhododendron is amazing, literally tree sized! Beautiful! "We are realizing that retired living is just small little plans, throughout a day, doing things that keep us happy, and laughing a lot!" This is so true. Enjoy one another!
Chantele63: You joined by posting. Come back often. You can find us again easily by clicking on the blank star at the top of the page. It will turn yellow. That is the bookmark that will get you back here whenever you want.
Gloria: Your daughters are lovely! So are you. :flowerforyou:
Heather: Thanks for letting me know about the cruise ship line. I haven't heard of Saga before. I doubt my friend will ever take a cruise again, but I'll keep the information for the future. DH and I always wanted to take the Washington State Ferry to Alaska but it doesn't seem likely now that he gets motion sick so easily. :ohwell:
Machka: What a ride! You are far more adventurous than anyone I know.
I'm still thinking about Mary. Has anyone heard from her?
I have an early riding lesson today to avoid the heat. I will start at 9 am. I've asked my teacher to give me a lesson on hoof care, too. I need to know what is ugly but okay, and what is a potential health problem. It is supposed to reach 89 today, which is a drop compared to the last few days, but it is going back into the 90's tomorrow through at least Wednesday. :grumble:

Oh, I should add to this story ...
On the way back to Alonnah, when I was riding by myself, I looked up and there was a large brown wallaby. It looked at me as I cycled toward it, then hopped off into the ditch. My husband said he saw it later when it crossed the road. Wallabies look much like small kangaroos.
Then later, when we were riding together, there was a pair of yellow tail black cockatoos. These are large birds sometimes called "rain birds" because they often herald the coming of rain.
And at the ferry terminal while waiting for the ferry ... the resident potaroo.
My photo of a potaroo from a previous visit ... in fact, possibly the same potaroo as what we say today.

Katla - What went wrong with your friend's cruise? I'm interested. Saga is exclusively for the over 50s and most are well over 70. The Saga Pearl ll is a small cruise ship, which we like. Unfortunately they are replacing it in a couple of years time. Saga has 98% excellent ratings. The food and service are exceptional. All inclusive. We will probably take one of their last cruises to say goodbye to our lovely cabin.
DH has been off colour today, but not too bad. He managed some lunch and accompanied me to the Swing dancing class, which was great, but he had to leave before the end as he felt dizzy. I was very tired from over indulging on the vino last night, but kept going until a short nap this afternoon. Feel a but better now after some strawberries and a cup of tea.
Tonight is a formal evening so the purple dress is coming out for an airing. It starts with the Captain's Welcome Cocktail Party, so I shall have to monitor my consumption very carefully. It's usually just a glass of bubbly. We will be dancing again tonight and I may do a turn with the "Gentlemen Hosts" , who take unpartnered women round the floor. Last night we had a long chat with the resident pianist and I also chatted to the fitness coach on my walk round the deck. She used to represent Ulster in swimming. She is young still and not particularly slim!
There's always some musical entertainment each evening. Some better than others. It ranges from string quartets to Elvis impersonators, so a wide mix.
This afternoon I listened to a very good lecture with slides on Marine Art.
There is so much to do, but you can't do everything! Going to spend the next hour making myself beautiful.
The food here us sooooooooooooo good that it is easy to eat well and healthily. For me the easiest option is to go low carb and so far I have had a lot of fish with extra vegetables. All served in a lovely dining room with real linen and fantastic waiters. There is a more casual restaurant upstairs, but we love being pampered. Our table for two is near the Captain's Table. We hope to be invited there one day as we have unexpectedly graduated to the top tier of Saga membership, sapphire and gold.

Today I am officially 20 pounds lighter than my highest weight (April). My scale says I have a BMI of 30.06 (so dang close to"overweight" but still officially obese). I have been tracking my workouts since May and have logged 99 hours of exercise. Over 15 miles of swimming. At least 30 more pounds to go.
(Healthy BMI, clothes size US 6 to 8, and strong enough to bike, swim, or walk any distance I want to without feeling fragile or painfully sore is goal. Yeah, I'd like to look as good as possible too but I'm officially calling looking good a bonus to being healthy).
Today is a rest day (my first real exercise rest day in a month or so) , but I do feel like I am officially on my way!11 -
Go Ryenday! :drinker: Great news!
I lost 58 lbs in all from my highest. I have kept it off for 3 years 8 months. It can be done!

Good morning friends,
Beautiful day here and cooler!!!! I am going to work this afternoon so will miss out on enjoying the weather later. I have been thinking of y'all in the NW with your heat wave, fires, etc.
I have not been sticking to my August goals. I felt so determined on the first but lost that inspiration so quickly. I am beginning to see how much being around my hubby brings me down. Determined to do this one day at a time and find the joy in being me.
RE - Great, gal! Your transformation is amazing!
Heather - Your cruise sounds lovely. What ports will you be visiting?
Lisa - Egg is beautiful. She looks so affectionate!
We enjoy Rice a Roni, too. Usually we have it with fish or salmon. Had left over soup last night and still have a meal of it to freeze for another time. It is our favorite. Ground beef/turkey (not too much), cabbage, onion, garlic, 2 cans of diced tomatoes, 2 cans of light red pinto beans, and beef broth. Hubby has it with garlic bread or a hard roll, which I try to resist.
Has Rita been posting lately? I wonder how her RV adventure is going.

Lenora: There are several farriers in the area. My teacher uses a different one than Arrow's owner uses. I'm trying to learn about the dos and don'ts of horse shoeing and hoof care. I lack both experience & training in this area so when I see a chip or crack in a hoof I don't know whether to worry or not. I lean toward worrying when I don't understand things. I want to know enough to understand when to worry and when things are okay.
Pip: You are so far beyond me in fitness and I admire your dedication. Your HRM seems to either be on a sabbatical or taking too many coffee breaks. Is it an essential item for training? Do you really need to carry around something that is mostly not recording? Can you return it for a refund or exchange it for one that works? :flowerforyou:
Janetr: I have been wondering about you. I am so happy that you posted!
Has anyone heard from Mary lately? I've been missing her and worry about her because of the Lymes disease.

That is sweet of you to say that. I am just trying to do the best for me. The hem is just the chest strap. The app is on my phone so there is nothing really extra that I'm lugging around. I do like that app, you can create exercises, I love that it gives me my maximum heart rate the the Apple Watch doesn't. The checks in the mail for the compliment3 -

kate sounds like a very sad situation your friend and neighbor is in. Perhaps you could have her over for tea more than just once a week, to get her out of the house and surrounded by an orderly home - she might get the hint. she will reach out for help when she's ready. NYKAREN

Kate ~ I am sorry to hear about your neighbor and friend. At age 85, she is probably totally overwhelmed with what needs to be done in her home. I know that I will be if something happens to my husband.
Lovely and cute pictures of Gloria and daughters, Egg, Squishy, and our Re!
I regretted going to the mail box today as there was a Jury Duty Summons for me for the first week in September. The thought of getting myself there by 8 AM, the traffic, and walking from the parking lots is too much. Hope I can get a cortisone shot in my knee right before.
Love to all,
Carol in GA

~ Kate - my only suggestion, the one that worked for my Nana when almost the exact same thing happened is - just go over there and tell her, not ask her, tell her that today you're going to tackle getting ONE box out - and you'll be back tomorrow to sort again ONE box...it's not overwhelming if it's just one box at a time in their minds. Then, suggest the 2nd day that you can leave another box just in case she gets the urge to put something in it. That's how we ended up clearing out 66 years in the same house with a grandpa that wouldn't get rid of ANYTHING - including old newspapers and magazines...entire room filled with newspaper and magazines and old bills...letters she kept, and some of the magazines that were historic...everything else we boxed up in that room and took to the "landfill" but in actuality we burned it in the bin at my uncle's house...along with many other items that were easily disposed of that way...(NOT in Vegas)...
This morning has been crazy so far...Saturday mornings are Squishy time, and it always starts with bowling in his junior league. He started this past fall, and has improved tremendously. Today is a team mate's birthday, which we didn't know about, and now we have to scramble for a birthday gift for this 7yr old and attend a birthday party we weren't prepared for...meaning mentally and with time constraints too...my daughter has to be to work this afternoon, leaving me with taking my grandson to a strangers house and actually going inside and being social...
One thing I wish I could explain is I'm actually NOT a people person - or maybe it's I'm not a "strangers" person...but...for my grandson, who is bouncing off the walls with anticipation and a nervous wreck about picking out the perfect birthday gift and "OMG OhMama can you hurry up? I need to take a shower and comb my hair, there might be GIRLS there!"...I'm pretty sure my face was the funniest part of that conversation!!
Much love and respect from Vegas,
Dorrie aka TrulyDivyn4 -

Machka - you and Pip amaze me!
Rye -way, or should I say weigh to go!2 -
Chris in MA – I absolutely agree, maintenance is harder than losing! Good for you getting back on track right away – that’s the secret. When I went to WW, I tried to keep my weight within the 2 lb allowed “fudge” from goal weight when I was on maintenance. I remember when I threw in the towel with them… I had a great week, weighed myself at home before my weigh-in, had what I thought was three pounds to spare. My scale had always been within half a pound of theirs. Stepped on their scale and was within a tenth of a pound of being over! I had not consumed no food or water! The receptionist made some comment like “oops, you are getting close” and I am sure noticed the look of horror on my face. That was it. Even if their scale was messed up, I was horrified that I was so tied to "the number". I was totally derailed for a couple years. MFP and you wonderful ladies have brought me back to reality. I am very grateful.
Katiebug – glad the water aerobics worked for you and was gentle on your knee! I’m with you on getting the hair/face wet on something like this.
Leigh – where in Oregon will you be staying? Totally understand about the cleanup before the house-sitters get there. Although they’ll probably be so tickled staying there they won’t notice a dust bunny! Hope your son takes care to keep things tidy.
Machka – interesting reading about your ride… and visualizing dodging the potholes! And the cold wait for the ferry. Glad you made the last one in plenty of time. Hope your DH is feeling better.
Joyce – I saw a feature on TV about the motorcycle group that accompanies bullied kids – not sure if it was in your town. I think the group was made up of police officers and other “professionals” who like to dress up in their leathers and ride. I’m sure that little guy’s spirits were lifted for a long time.
Gloria – fabulous photo of you and your girls!! Thank you for sharing!!
Allie – hope you can pull the photos off that hard drive. I’m glad you mentioned it – I just did a back-up!
Kate – how sad for your friend and neighbor. My only thought is – I’d make sure to square it with her son (and/or other children she may have) first before offering to go in and help her clean up. He might feel there are “buried treasures” in there that he doesn’t want outsiders going thru or accidentally throwing away.
Lisa – Egg is just gorgeous. Thanks for treating us to the sweet photos of her!
Dana – sorry Dolly interrupted your sleep, hopefully she’ll be content in her kennel tonight. Have a nice meal at the Shangra-La. Love that poster about being grateful for people kind and loving. Sums up this group!
Becca – totally agree that retirement is little plans through the day. DH and I are learning more and more to enjoy each day and not worry too much about tomorrow. Takes a lot of retraining to get there after years of focusing on the future!
Katla – we had a wonderful, cool, smokeless morning. Was overcast until about 9:30 then a nice blue sky appeared. Weatherman says smoke may return for a few days, but it does appear the furnace will be turned down a few degrees. That hoof care lesson should be interesting-when I was a kid we had ponies, unshod. A nearby Amish farmer would come trim their hooves a few times a year. We kids were “horse nuts” and took care of these critters – I don’t recall any hoof cracking. Hopefully it’s nothing serious for Arrow. I miss Mary too!!
Heather – glad your DH perked up for the dancing. The food sounds great and so nifty there are healthy choices for you! So much to do on that small cruise – sounds very special!
Ryenday, great progress since April. Good for you!!
Becca – I am a Rice-a-Roni fiend. Love it hot, love it cold. Haven’t had it in years…. I’ll have to grab a box and see if I can doctor it up with some healthy stuff…. Bet adding sautéed veggies and a little meat of some type would be something even my DH would eat. You are my cooking muse!
Toni – I saw RV’s on the road this morning when I did my shopping, also thought of Rita.
RE- I never tire of reading your story and seeing your photos. Very inspirational.
OK ladies, sorry for being longwinded.
I picked up some Garnier coconut shampoo and conditioner for curly/frizzy/damaged hair. I’m afraid using the Velcro curlers have done some damage. It’s looking better and smells great after the shampoo this morning. I refuse to be a frizzy-haired white headed old lady, but these curlers are not good all the time. It will get tamer in the fall and winter.
That's the latest. Have a great weekend!!

Ooh stress from waiting for middle son, and missing younger son has resulted in a zit in the middle of my chest!!! I'm old why am I getting zits! Of course I didn't notice it until after I had gotten up off my towel draped bed from putting coconut oil. I know strange. When I am warm and wet, I lay on a towel and apply the oil from head to toe. Its channelling my goddess thing!! So then I get up and rub vigorously, so I don't look too shiny! So I am self conscious about it today of all days. I also have a bump on the side of my face. I will attribute it all to empty nest syndrome!!
My kids should be here by 4 pm! Woooot!
Glad you enjoy my flower pics! I think life's pleasure's for me is appreciating the world and all its splendor. I so appreciate you all!

Howdy! It is a lovely day here and I did not go to work! I do work tomorrow but generally I work no more than 12 hours a month so this was just an odd week. I got us up early and cleaned the church for 2 hours, took boyo to swim lesson and then we swam for an hour. I made him leave though as the forecast said thunderstorm and the yard was yelling to be mowed. Got 2/3 of the yard done--need to move some tree trimmings before I can do the rest. We have a 4 pm church meeting and then I am coming home and crawling into bed!
Thanks for the good wishes about my pain-it isn't bad in general. I have kidney failure which manifests as back pain when I am on my feet for hours like when I work. But I really do not work much and can be seated as needed at home. I have several pain killer options but I just do not want to take them 'until it gets really bad'. Mostly, I am trying to avoid going to the hospital because I would have to leave my son with strangers/babysitters.
Next week is Fire/Life Safety Camp M-F mornings so I will chauffeur the kid there and back (just to the fire station). I am thinking to do some extra water work-outs on the days I haven't anything else to do--maybe join a class at the Y for the week. Sigh, I could also clean the house and organize the thousands of pieces of legos and toys that are everywhere. Decisions, decisions!2 -
And no the dogs are staying at her parents home and not here! Not that I don't like dogs but I like visiting dogs in their own homes not them visiting my home.
Don't hate me!

Had wonderful dinner. Moules and lobster. They were so funny, coming over to apologise for running out of the stinky cheese I love. They produced another one which didn't quite cut it, but not too bad. I am a cheese tyrant.
Now I've been to visit the It experts tonight my phone now has WiFi. Hope to show you the first day drinks just before we left port. We were so happy.
Ooops, the file failed to upload. WiFi at sea is unreliable.
Going down in a minute to watch the show. Spoke to a nice couple earlier. I spotted them across a crowded room.

Heather That's great that you tried and liked line dancing on your cruise. I admire how open you are to new adventures
About Maintenance , I've maintained my new weight since the end of 2009. It requires daily vigilance. I've accepted that I will never be a normal eater and that's fine with me. Checking in with all of you, logging food and exercise and seeking every opportunity to be active are central to how I live my life.
About Mary She is traveling and logging onto MFP but not posting

Becca: I know, Right! I'm 53, zits are not something I should be worrying about at this age. But I did want to share, I too use coconut oil to moisturize my skin – but I have learned I must keep it away from my face. If I get any coconut oil on my face I will get a zit there. Just an FYI in case it helps you out.
