Beware of the Strava leader board! If you aren't careful, it can lead you alright...straight into injury! Seriously though, I love the social aspect of Strava, but it is easy to get carried away and lose sight of your own goals when you start looking at those rankings. Sometimes we all just need to take a step back and remember that why we are running. Just a friendly reminder, not just to @cburke8909, but to everyone in the group.7 -

I never even see the leaderboard on mobile. I happen to find it yesterday and notice I'm actually on it. It was tempting to add some miles on a rest day! But nah. I'm sitting on the porch while the big dogs run.1 -

I found this file an thought to share it as an experiment or if it was useful for anyone. Its fancy. Im not sure i know how to duplicate this type of work, but i'm sure as a group effort we can come close or better.

@mobycarp I could probably count on one hand the number of 5Ks I’ve run that didn’t go by chip time. Very few are gun time.
@pastorvincent I agree through with @mobycarp you need to be more aggressive about where you start. Skip just walks up through the crowd going excuse me excuse me until she sees a face she knows she’ll finish with. A lot of races we do she just walks right to the front line and lines up. I “sparkle” enough when I run with a skirt I’ve seen sparkle shorts too. I’ve never worn one but I hear they are very comfy.

@cburke8909 nah, the beauty of Google Docs and Google Sheets is that they can be shared files that multiple people can edit. I've used them before with other online groups I've been a part of, it's very handy. The settings on the file are now open, so that anyone who has a link to it can edit it

You just need to say the magic word, "excuse me" ha ha I know what you mean though most don't even pay attention to 5'1" 95 lbs of her wanting to start in the front. We ran a 5K this year where the race director called her by name to ask where she was. ha ha4 -

I've had a cute red-haired girl offer to let me line up in front of her. I declined, because I recognized her as someone who is undeniably faster than I am. But then, I recognize a lot of faces in the first three rows of runners at the start line of local races. No doubt many of them recognize me, too. I typically line up in the 2nd or 3rd row, behind people that I know to be faster than I am. Younger, too; but faster is the important part.
Farther back, I expect there are sections where the people lining up together don't know who is faster than whom.3 -

@PastorVincent and @MobyCarp then there is the problem of those who start fast and fade. They run like they're doing a 1/2 mile race when the race is 10k? In a 5k it's not too bad but I still want to race easier the first mile and go for it miles 2 and 3.1

@Runningmischka - Welcome back! I too have loved watching your little one grow on your profile pics! Can't believe you have been gone from here for 2 years and that she is that old all ready!
@kgirlhart - those adductor frog stretches hurt my knees too and I did them on a folded yoga mat!
@PastorVincent - I too have a Roo pouch and other running pouch/belts but I don't like them bouncing around my waist, making me even sweatier and having to unzip/unfold to try and get my phone or whatever out. I love just having the pockets that hold everything tight against me, no bouncing, and being able to slip my phone or fuel out easily. Another place to get running skirts if your wife likes them is Skirt Sports. They aren't as expensive as Sparkle. I haven't tried the skirts but they were my go to for compression shorts/capris with pockets for a long time. I see they now have lots more colors and styles with pockets too.
@cburke8909 and @Dcorrick - the posted tickers here take a while sometimes to catch up to the updates but they will eventually.

@lporter229 - glad your husband made it home safely even if tired and spun up! The silk scarf sounds awesome! Hope his luggage shows up!
@JessicaMcB - I do think I am going with the Vitamix. We looked at them at Costco yesterday and I am pretty convinced I will order one today. They didn't actually have the model I wanted in the store.

@MobyCarp - I don't think I have run a race that wasn't a chip timee. Even the smaller 5 and 10Ks all had chip timing. I also never see anyone I know at races - even the local ones. I suspect that the elites in the front probably know or recognize each other though. Even the smaller HM I run in December though has around 5000 runners. I do try to start close to the front of my corral depending on the times that are included in it. I also look for the pacers and get to the one faster but closest to my expected time.
I got up 1.5 hours early to get a run in before my meetings started, otherwise it would be too warm to take Hobbes the Vizsla and he needs to run on Agility class day. It was in the mid 60's with around 85% humidity but felt wonderful! I was running to beat the clock and be back for my 1st meeting so it ended up being a bit of a tempo run with an avg pace of 10.5 min/mile. This was one of my best runs in quite a while and it felt amazing!

In regards to pockets in running pants:
Ok, yes yes, I know, it's Forever 21, lol. But I happened to be walking past the store in the mall maybe a month or two ago and saw a bunch of super fun, funky workout pants hanging on the wall. Ended up getting a few different styles but these have super awesome pockets! I think ALL running pants/shorts/skirts should be required by LAW to have big pockets! Lol. I can fit my big, Google Pixel XL smartphone in these pockets, along with fuel, keys, etc. Actually, they also have a small, hidden waist pocket where I usually tuck the key fob for my car. And seriously, you can't really beat the price, and they seem to be pretty decent quality.

A muggy 6 miles this morning. Also felt hungry when I started. This is day 5 of successfully cutting back calories. I'm trying to lose a few pounds - I think losing a few pounds will make me a bit faster. Or at least a bit more efficient.
Once I got going the hunger dissipated and I felt pretty good.2 -
This rest day was killing me, until I remember that I have a possible EXTRA 1-2 rest days this (M-S)week.... Friday might be a rest day, and Sunday WILL be a rest day.... probably.... Saturday's run will be the deciding factor. I still haven't decided on Rest for Friday, but Saturday, and How I feel after will decide Sunday... Sat is gonna be Awesome!0

Missed my first workout of this training series - was supposed to do a 'long' run of 5 miles on Sunday, but due to a combination of heat exhaustion and TOM, I spent the day on the couch instead. I don't regret skipping the run, but now the question is, do I try and make it up, or do I just continue with my training plan? Next long run is 6 miles next Sunday, and my first 10k is 8/27.
Total: 12/80 miles
PS it is gratifying to see other women on this thread who have trouble getting their runs done on those days...makes me feel like a bit less of a wimp!3 -
@carrie_eliza don't worry about it. Just continue with your schedule. Missing days happens, as long as you are consistent with like 80-90% of your plan, you'll be fine, and Welcome!2

Ok! Finally posting my runs!
Friday evening was a 9 mile LT tempo run. Plan called for 4 miles at LT tempo so I did that for miles 5-8. Definitely a *kitten* kicker workout considering it was still in the low 80s and humid at 6pm, and I was tired from a long work week. For about 7 of the 9 miles I was also feeling gastric distress, but I managed to gut it out (pun FULLY intended!) although made a beeline once I made it in through my front door, lol.
Saturday was a slow recovery run. Shockingly enough, it's a bit tough to keep my HR in the recovery zone after I've just finished an hour-long intense Zumba class, lol. Just focused on keeping my pace way down.
Yesterday was long run day, with another distance PR of 16 miles. I'm really pleased I pulled it off since I had gotten less than 6 hours of sleep the night before, since I was out at a Jamaican Independence Day BBQ and didn't even get home until 2:30am! I am very excited for my rest day today! It's nice and rainy out so I'm looking forward to going home from work and immediately putting my pajamas on! Bring. It. On. lol6 -

Thanks! Consistency in training is what I always struggle with though, so the self-sabotage part of my brain is already expecting me to bail on the rest of the plan I'll make my 6-miler next week, no matter what...0 -

That's weird, it looks like the setting got changed back. I switched it back over to 'Anyone with the link can edit', see if it works now.1 -

I got one too! It works pretty well. I like how I can easily slip my phone in and out. My phone is too big to get in horizontal, but I put it in vertical without any problems. It sticks out and looks like I'm wearing a fanny pack.
For my long runs I use my Nathan belt that holds my phone snug against my lower abs - it's more comfortable and doesn't chafe because the belt is worn over my shorts. The roo pouch will chafe my upper thighs on long runs!0
