Mary happy to see you and with such lovely/adorable company!!
DJ ((( ))) it takes a lot to vent that out, good for you getting it off your chest. You will get to the right time and frame of mind to talk with her and set more respectful boundaries. You ALL deserve peace and well being.
NYKAREN2 -
Karen in VA: I don't like my adult son or daughter very much either sometimes. I have found it easier to stay out of the frays and talk with them when I want to talk with them. After all they are quick to point out they are adults! So I give them the same respect I give to other adults.
Dorrie: DH came to my house as a speciality subcontractor to cut down a tree; the Contractor introduced us; I had no thought of having a relationship with him; we became friends because we enjoyed each other's company; then he just came and stayed. That was 13 years ago. Enjoy time with your friend and let what happens next happen. I will say my mother was instrumental in saying "give it another year" anytime I said anything about getting married until a couple of years ago when she said "well I guess we are going to keep him."
Allie: I want to be in your pocket so I can hop out and deliver a quick hinney kick to Tomcat. He is gonna reap his just rewards. Hang in there!

Happy Wednesday, everyone!
Since I work at the Y Thursday through Monday, Tuesday and Wednesdays are my "weekends". Spent today in jammies, did a little laundry, sorted through some more stuff to discard or donate, cuddled my kitty and chilled out. Just the kind of day I wanted.
Enjoying the pictures from several of you.
Heather - how fun! I love ABBA!
Mary - good to see you!
Karen - (((HUGS))).
DJ - sending you hugs, too. It does sound like your daughter needs some help. Meanwhile, you take care of you!
Tere - Wow! Those shoes!
Allie- S$$t! He is really playing games! I am so sorry. You would think he would like to get things over with.
Catch y'all later

Hope your Wednesdays were good. The boy, who has been going to a fire and life safety camp, feels sure the house is on fire and he woke me up from a nap to tell me so. Time to take the dogs out and then I am going back to bed!2

Aren't y'all having 'double the fun'!?!?!? It's nice that DH's daughter came around and started allowing y'all in.0

The view of the Hudson from Mt. Beacon. A gorgeous summer day. And all down hill on the way back!8 -
Jake says that one of the reasons we bought a house in a "55+" community was to make it clear that no child or grandchild could possibly move in with us.
Mary, it's great to see you again. You look happy and healthy. What a joy to have so many job choices.
Allie, stay strong. You can do this.
I am reading a fabulous book, "Goodbye, things" by Fumio Sasaki. He has some great guidance about how to approach getting rid of things. He is an extremely minimalist, but the principles can apply to all of us who are wanting to clear the clutter and boxes of stuff from our lives.

~ Lanette - yes, I met him online...more like, he met me! I'm have a TS clearance for where I work, so in any of my profiles I've ever had, or initial contact I ALWAYS state they MUST be able to pass a Federal background check going back 20yrs + they MUST be credit worthy if I'm going to spend any time with them, because one of the primary stipulations in keeping my clearance is being subjected to financial distress, either personally or by association. Also, I have to have a physical quarterly for HRP (Human Reliability Program) which requires me to not only pass a physical, but also drug/alcohol screening and "at risk behavior" screening, including STD's of any type. It's a requirement that I pass that test every quarter to do my job...You probably already knew that, but many others may not. My "prince" was prepared prior to meeting me in person. He had a copy of his ID's, his DL record, his background check, his credit report, and his physical with ever important results of "negative" in all the right places. He's the first to ever do that...he captured my attention when he said he was willing to do whatever it takes to get to know me, and it was "high time to grow up and check my credit along with bodily fluid functions"...please remember, I have chatted with him for a few months before even sharing my contact info...he calls me Divyn (because that's what he literally thought my first name was) more than he calls me Dorrie. He sent me a video of him holding all those documents and a picture of a puppy was stuffed in there "for fun, I know you're a sucker for puppies"...needless to say, I reviewed his documents and handed them back to him with the understanding that if anything changes, full disclosure is required...from both of us!
~ Tere - That's AWESOME! I'm almost afraid to have him come over and meet the family because I'm pretty sure they're gonna want to keep him hostage and he'd let them! I'm completely TERRIFIED of things moving too fast but it's like lava flowing, it cannot be stopped, burning hot under the surface of 'the rest of the world' view of how we will probably flame out...but I am a firm believer in what my Nana used to say; "don't miss out on something GREAT because it's scary! The only thing that keeps you from your dreams is FEAR and reluctance"...
Much love and respect from Vegas,
Dorrie aka TrulyDivyn

Mary love it!
Heather love ABBA!
DJ sounds obsessive compulsive. I agree with others she does not have the right to make your life so difficult. We struggle with boundaries with our oldest son too. Not easy.

Hi all: Hot and smoky here. Did yardwork this morning while it was still cooler. This afternoon I went to the YM to workout in the pool. It was lovely except that about 45 minutes in I started getting cramps in my feet. I have not had this happen before and I was doing the same routine I usually do. I hope it does not have something to do with the statins I started last week. I know they can cause muscle pain but do not know if they can cause cramps. I did extra exercise today so I can have a piece of ice cream cake tonight. We are having DD's birthday cake early because she is going to Panama on a birthday trip with her best friend.
Heather - Sounds like you are having an awesome trip.
Mary - Such a cute pic. Enjoy your travels.
Karen - Hugs.
DJ - Sounds like a time limit would be good. It is after all your house.
Allie - Hang in there and keep having fun when you can.
Pip - I like that pic of you and Kirby.

Allie: NYKaren has the right idea. You do seem to be moving on and I'm thrilled for you. I hope the bumps ahead are mainly felt on Tom's side and that you get a fair outcome. :flowerforyou:
Karen in VA: I'm sorry the relationship with your son is difficult. It does sound as though he has problems with others, as well. I hope your DDIL continues to keep things on a positive track for the kids & the marriage.
Heather: You look great in Stockholm, and in blue. I saw ABBA perform live at Mac Court in Eugene, OR, more than 47 years ago. They were fabulous! I'll enjoy them again vicariously through you. I also saw Van Cliburn play the piano back in those days. The memories of both performances are fresh, clear and happy. Simon & Garfunkel played there, too. Paul Simon made the performance shine. Art Garfunkle had a cold and was grumpy. Poor guy. :ohwell:
Kate, UK: I had my gallbladder out a number of years ago. I got the earliest surgery appointment I could, but we went on vacation before my surgery date & I had an attack that was pretty bad while boating with friends. I think cheesy appetizers might have been the trigger. We were in Longview, Washington at the time and somebody took me to the local hospital. It was a near thing for me. I almost had to have emergency surgery but I got through the attack okay and had the surgery after I got home. In the end I had only one gallstone and it was the size of a robin's egg. You will be so glad once it is done.
Pip: I said I'd support your ride but haven't heard how to make my contribution yet. Please send me a "how to" message. (((HUGS)))
Becca: It makes sense that the apartment your DS and DDIL found is more expensive. The whole Portland Metro area is experiencing a huge surge in housing costs. That would include Vancouver. We're seeing quite a lot of building new housing here in St Helens, and I expect costs to be less than Portland, but more than they've been here in the past. :ohwell:
Yesterday we planned to take the Passat back to the VW dealer due to problems with the instrument panel not lighting up. Today it has been perfect, so we didn't go. We'll keep an eye on it. The air here has not been perfect, though. It is still hazy with smoke from distant fires.

oops sorry katla, I must have missed that I will message you the link and thanks!!0 -
Mary - so great to hear from you! Great photo of all you "kids" ;-). How have you been feeling?
DJ - (((HUGS))) lots of good advice here. You and your DH need to take care of you, and as NYKaren said, you all deserve peace.
Tere - neat story about how your DH came into your lives! Cute about your mom saying "we" are going to keep him. I have a hunch she has pretty high standards and made sure he was thoroughly vetted!
Katla - hope the Passat decides to keep the instrument panel lit up. These vehicles act like they have a naughty gremlin in them sometimes. Are you taking it to a VW service facility or a private mechanic? Sorry to say, I've not had good luck with the Subaru repair places either in Bellevue or Olympia. Finally found a AAA-certified local mechanic who works on my Forester - I have a hunch the Passat maintenance and service is fairly specialized. The fog didn't stick around very long this morning so it's hot and smoky this afternoon, pushing 93. ONE more day of this - we hope!
NYKaren - gorgeous view of the Hudson! Hooray for the downhill part, LOL. I love this group - get to see neighborhoods and towns and views I'd never get to see otherwise.
Rye- great idea putting an ice pack in the pillow! So glad you have a terrific DH and your cat is precious. Smoochies!
Pip- you and the Kirby ROCK!
Joyce - I'm glad you mentioned flax seed. I just realized I eat from 1 to 2 tablespoons of flax seed meal a day in my low-carb muffins. I got kind of bold this morning and ground up a little hemp and chia seeds to add to the mix. Delish! I've been eating these muffins for two or three years now.... I'll still get little "warm spells" but they pass quickly.
Dorrie - good job on the background stuff! You could teach me a few things! Yes, if he was willing to go through all of that, I'm sure he was very appreciative of your insistence on it and knowing you were also well vetted. And the puppy.... well, that speaks for itself! That's a big a TEN PLUS!!!
Speaking of puppies, bringing Rosie into our lives a couple months ago has been great. DH loves taking her out in the back yard and caring for her - they are getting super bonded. I was afraid initially that she'd be all mine to tend. Thankfully she catches on quickly and got the bathroom stuff figured out pretty quickly. She has DH wrapped around her little paw - little Schnauzers really do "talk" and she and DH have conversations all the time.
Anyhow, his mood has gotten a lot better. There are days his arthritis is really kicking up but he's still ready to take her out and "show her" things in the yard and help her count bunnies. I was afraid with this hot weather and us both stuck in the house, we'd have cabin fever. Didn't happen! Rosie to the rescue!
That's it so far ladies! Keep cool!

Call me crazy but I love to see other people happy and succeeding .
Good Evening my dear Friends,
Heather, it sounds like such a fun vacation. So glad it’s better than the last one.
Mary, so great to see you and the twins are darling. We miss you!!!!
TNToni, don’t ya just love jammie days? (((Hugs)))
Lanette, so happy you and your DH are enjoying the new addition to the family. Aren’t they special?
I went to the Moose lodge for a couple of hours for a meeting and I guess DH and DD got into it while I was away. I have to say it’s interesting to hear the two sides of the same story. One thing I notice is that DH really gets plugged in to anything she does or says. She didn’t give me details on what started it but the bottom line from her was, “We broke up”. She told me he said maybe they just shouldn’t talk. Knowing DH, that won’t last long anyway, but I have to say I wish he wouldn’t be so sensitive about everything she does. She plans to save and work on being able to move out. Thank you all for the hugs and advice. I never thought I’d be in such a situation.
Sending love, good thoughts and cool sunshine to all of you.
I Love you

Did 1 hr Crunch Fat Blaster DVD. The plan for tomorrow is to do a Strength Body Circuit DVD.
Jess just called. Now Pete's mother sent her a text "demanding" (yes, that's the word) that she be told when the shower is, where it is, what the menu will be, that it better be a sit down meal. Jess just told her that the shower invitations have been sent, she should get it in a day or two, and that the menu hasn't been decided, Angela is still trying to see if she can get a discount. I told her to tell Maria that
said that a buffet is fine, she just wants people to have someplace to sit down and eat rather than having to walk around with finger food. Am I glad that this shower is being held at a winery. I have a feeling that I'll need a glass (or two or three) of wine to get thru it. As you know, I'm not a drinker, but in this instance, I just might need it!
Here's a "sample" of the wedding placq that I'm going to give Denise at her shower as a surprise. I told her that I couldn't find anyone IN NORTH CAROLINA (I'm counting on the fact that she didn't listen to all that I said) to make it. That's true. But I did find someone in FL to make it. Actually, I would be embarrassed to send someone the one the lady in FL made. I did find someone in Hickory to make it (they just opened up). I'm thinking that I may tell her (the lady in FL) that I needed it for the shower which was this weekend (it's really not) and that's why I needed it by the end of July, so that I'd have time to wrap it. Wonder if I'll be libel for the placq. I suspect I will be. Update: I just sent her an email saying how I told her I needed it by the end of July and here it is August and I still don't have it so I would like to cancel the order since I no longer can use it. I guess we'll see what happens. I haven't paid her anything so far
Oh, Maria just called Angela saying "I understand that you're in charge of the catering". That's NOT what Jess told her. Jess told her that the menu is decided by the girls. Vince said he's going to tell Denise that she needs to tell Maria to back off or he will. What mother of the groom does what she's doing? If she wants to micromanage something, she can micromanage the rehearsal dinner. Vince just told Denise that she needs to tell Maria to back off or he will. I'm sure Angela will give us her number. I doubt Amanda would.
Felicia - I totally understand about the "therapist". Bryan went to a "therapist" and I Skyped with this "therapist". She spent 1/2 hr telling me what all I should have done when Bryan was a baby. In working with therapists, I completely believe that all therapists feel that all boys have a mommy issue and all girls have a daddy issue, and if they don't agree, then it's the therapist's sworn duty to convince the son/daugher that they have these issues. I remember one time I was having lunch with this one therapist. Thank goodness I was an adult. He tried over and over to tell me that every problem that I had stemmed from the fact that my father abused me. Thank goodness I was an adult and wouldn't admit it. I wouldn't admit it for a very good reason. It didn't happen!!! He never once adressed the fact that my mother died when I was so young. Do ya think that had something to do with the kind of person I turned out to be??? Adorable kids
Allie - that's totally rediculous.
Had the Newcomer general meeting. The speaker(s) were very good. The first lady was the one who led the CPR course we took. Seems a few other people are now interested in CPR. I'll set it up, but I will not pay the delivery charge or the tip to have lunch delivered. They can go out to lunch or bring their own, not my problem. The other speaker was about the solar eclipse. There were things that I didn't realize. He did give us the glasses. I gave some to the ladies in the cafe who supply us with the drinks, cups, etc.
Speaking of the lady who supplies the drinks etc. she mentioned to me that the $20 that we are currently committed to paying her really isn't covering her costs. She said that each cup costs $1. I think she should look for a different supplier. When we have the board meeting, I am going to bring up the fact that maybe we should give her $30. Lately, we've been having large meetings. Really, an extra $10 or even $15 isn't going to break our bank. Update: the president has decided that since we had a big crowd today and had over $30, she's thinking that she'd like to try mentioning to the people that they should pay. She'd like to mention it multiple times, she's thinking that's why we got so much money this time. I still say that an extra $10 or $15 wouldn't kill us -- they do a lot for us.
The woman in charge of the games nights at the airport is so proud of the fact that we have two cabinets there where we can keep our supplies. She seems to think that everything should be kept at the airport, she thinks I should keep everything there. I told her that I needed things before the meeting so it's really better for me to bring things home. I just leave the basket we use to collect money for the drinks there. Today she was handling the 50/50 tickets. Where did she put the extra tickets? You guessed it....in the cabinet. I just said to her that I usually keep them with my things. Oh, someone tried to break into the cabinets. When I went to get my basket for the drink money, the cabinet was open. I didn't realize that it was broken into. The president said that she and her husband were going to get a chain and attach it to the doors. Someone donated a video projector to Newcomers, but Vince brought it home rather than leaving it there, at least for now. We shall see how this chain works out.
Mary - you look so great!!!!
DJ - tough love hurts so much, but it's really for the best. she really needs to be doing more things on her own and be responsible for herself more, especially now while you are still here to help her. Vent anytime you need to. We are all here

I love it!!
I also met my husband online.
We're both long distance cyclists ... he's Australian and I'm Canadian. I posted a question on a world-wide cycling forum asking if anyone was going to a long distance ride in France in 2003 ... the Paris-Brest-Paris ... and he respond that he was. We chatted very briefly about it, but didn't make plans to meet or anything.
Several months later, I was at the last control (rest stop) on the Paris-Brest-Paris when a voice called out "Machka!". I turned to see who it was, and he introduced himself. We talked for about 15 min, and then I went for a nap under a picnic table (the Paris-Brest-Paris is a very long ride), and he continued down the road.
Some time later, we got chatting online again ... and then a friend and I did a 3-month cycling tour of Australia + another long distance ride in 2004, and ended up staying with my husband-to-be for a little while. The friend and I parted company, I returned to Canada, and my husband-to-be kept chatting with me online.
In 2005 he came to Canada for several weeks, and we did some more long distance cycling together. He was back in 2006 for 6 months. We met in Europe for a month in 2007. I went to Australia for a couple weeks in early 2008. We were married in Canada later in 2008 ... and I moved to Australia in 2009 and became a citizen last year.
And my husband still calls me Machka.

Allie: What was Tom’s lame excuse today? My quote for you “In the middle of every difficulty lies opportunity”.
Sue: So jealous of your DD heading to Panama. I love it there and just last night got a call from my cousin who moved there 55 years ago. I long to go back, especially since she has offered me her beach house anytime I want it.
DJ: (((hugs))) DD’s drinking sounds like it worries you, and that concerns me. I’ve survived life with alcoholics only because I was somehow guided towards Al-Anon. Hope you find your support system, whatever it may be. Love you, lots.
Heather: You have triggered ‘Dancing Queen’ into my head. I’ll play ABBA while I work out tomorrow, and fantasize about dancing on a cruise to a live band.
Lisa: Have a very successful event. You know I'll want to hear all about it.
Mary: Nice to see you. Hope you'll check in again soon.
It’s been a great week of reconnection with old friends. Some of it was because of a job assignment which requires me to dial up former colleagues. Then, the passing of Glen Campbell and out of the woodwork came friends from my high school who remembered how much I loved him in the 70’s. Really lifted my heart.
Stay well friends. We can do this.

Mary, you and hubbie look fantastic. Looks like the kids have completely decorated the place. Love your husbands robot. Isn't it fun to have kids and we as adults can play!!!!!!
Heather, as usual you and husband sound like you are having a good time. As I said a couple of days ago our cruise was one of the bIG cruislines and you didn't get personal with anyone. I like your idea of your cruise where it is an older cleimtle, the employees know you, you get your same suite and everything. Hope you get to sit at the Captains table.
DJ! I am so sorry that all that is going on. It is a terrible feeling to not like your daughter that much. You are right, does sound like the beer has something to do with it. Does anyone go to a family counselor?
Next week we start on our Christmas cantata. We started on so,e Christmas music tonight. One will be a difficult piece. It is a variation of 3 traditional carols which make it hard. You already know these songs in your head and your brain has memorized the timing and the harmony and then you get this difficult piece and your brain has to relearn. But it will be nice.
Michelle is coming over tonight after work, her car needs work and she is going to borrow one of ours. Her package she ordered from Walmart came in and she will pick it up. Her old dog can't keep up with her two young buck when they go to the dog park. Once they get to the dog park, he has his old friends he likes to sit and they do a little bit of play. But from the car to the park and back is hard. So she bought one of the collapsible wagons and it will be her Timmy mobile.

Katla I had to chuckle when you said 'Stoked' I was wondering if that was a word your friend and you used in the '70s! That was definitely the stoked surfer time.
Mary I actually got a big smile on my face when I started to scroll down and saw it was you!
I am loving my PT for my knees and it is working. The goal is to not only strengthen but get my knees to straighten. when I leave there I actually feel like I am standing straighter already!
I got re registered as a member at our Y yesterday. I really would like to have gone to a different gym but this is the only place with a pool. So tomorrow is open swim from 11-1 and the boys and I will be there. I'm determined to get back to swimming that mile!
The prednisone is evidently working as I am no longer itching. That is a HUGE thing I am thankful for. I am also thankful for my good health. Yes I have knees that don't work as they should, and medication controlled HBP (not too bad without it) and my thyroid is a little out of wack but other than that my doctor says I am healthy. ( You'll notice I am not mentioning any mental health issues brought on by the likes of a 9 & 12yr old . . .LOL)

Good morning! Happy Thursday! Quick shout out!
Heather- Ahoy! Cool ship! Love the pics of you around town? Was that last stop Copenhagen or Stockholm? I find the scenery/buildings as seen from the waterways absolutely magical!
Mary- Mary! Mary! Mary! So happy to see you and to see you doing so well! You and DH look so happy and healthy and your grandbabies are absolutely adorable! Getting so big! Best wishes on the career choices! Yea! Your cup is full!
DJ- My heart goes out to you with your DD. It sounds as if maybe some of the issue got resolved when she and DH hashed it out a bit? My parents were very firm on acceptable behavior at home (in their house). If we crossed a line in regards to our actions towards them; we were out. I tend to think I would be that way with my own kids (and DH), but my DH is a big softie. OFten times when my DYS is borderline out the door, I will tell him, "You need to be very grateful to your father's soft heart; otherwise you would be outta here!" He knows I love him; but when he hears those words he knows I am close to throwing his crap into the yard. LOL!
Michele - Ugh! I just don't know what to say about this wedding fiasco. My heart is with you and you are approaching the finish line. I wonder what this woman would do if you drove to her house and just went toe to toe with her. I wonder if she is all bluster until she is confronted by the one she is really attacking?! What a piece of work. A bridal bully
Well, gotta go. Kiddos arriving. It is Thursday and I actually only have three today. Two of my families are taking a long weekend. It is almost like a holiday for me! Easy science today and tomorrow for the little ones. We are going to shine up some pennies and make wave bottles. Yea! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)2 -
Machka- Love the love story! So romantic! I met my husband at the mall when I was 14. He was actually there to see my friend (who invited me to come with her as her "wingman"). I thought he was gorgeous and of course immediately clammed up. Never said two words to him. I walked home and told my mom that I met the guy I was going to marry. She laughed. He called me about 15 minutes after I walked in the door (called all of the people with my last name in the phone book until he got the right number). WE went to different schools, and couldn't drive so we liked each other from a distance, dated at the mall, then off and on through high school and college. Married at 22. Still married at 51. Love is strange!6

Morning Ladies
Somehow I got a great nights sleep except for a couple of trips to the bathroom,I am sitting out on the front porch watching a goldfinch eat from a sunflower, and hanging out with the dog... well Faith was hungry so I had to do the drill before the caregiver came but will make sure she gets her lunch together..
I will pick up DGD and we will run some errands, and will be back up here with Faith this afternoon..something wrong with Toms phone(more karma)so haven't really heard from him which is nice..3
