Allie I am so proud of you and pleased for you. You have handled yourself like the strong and thoughtful lady that you are. You have taken the high road, done this right and it is paying off in the end. Way to go!!

Carol: Happy birthday!
Dorrie: I am so sorry for your loss. I was shocked by what Mr. Handsome said about not being a real relative, with two adopted siblings I know that 'blood' does not necessarily make family. I think you handled him sensibly, but I wish he had not turned out to be so self-centered.

Thank you ALL for your well wishes and insight that I made the correct decision about Mr. Toad --- I'm VERY grateful to have found out his true nature now instead of later. Nothing invested, nothing lost but great lessons learned and affirmation that I need to continue screening my dates - but this time, instead of just the BG and credit checks, there needs to be a list of deal breakers - family first being top on that list! I'm struggling here at work, the distractions are great, but my thoughts are drifting all over the place. I'm glad I'm not at home tho, because I know I'd be a blubbering idiot calling people all day and crying...yes, it was a pretty tough weekend...but when I think about Scott's son, it brings things into perspective pretty quickly. He's got a LOT to deal with, and I'm very VERY grateful the rest of my family is nearby and willing to help Michael get things sorted out. My step Mom is purchasing his plot next to my Daddy and her plot as well. She's promised to video chat with me and my kids on Saturday for the service - if not her, then one of my nephews will be taping...praying it's one of my nephews who is more electronics minded...
Much love and respect from Vegas,
Dorrie aka TrulyDivyn

Dorrie - For next time, and I hope you will persevere, one of the important things I looked for on my Internet dating was friends and family. Very important how they got on with adult children, siblings, and did they have significant friends etc. Often there is a RED FLAG very early on in a relationship and you spotted it in time. Good for you. :drinker:
I met my DH through the Internet after about 100 cups of coffee with different guys. I did not have a long email conversation with him or anyone. Much better to meet them straight away so you can rule them out and no harm done. People's virtual persona can be very misleading.
On to the next!

Hi gang! Well it's the start of a new semester, so seems like a good time to start back on working on ME! I have had a rough summer, but for some reason a new semester almost feels like Jan 1 to me: a time of new beginnings. I'm trying! Stay strong all of you! Meg from steamy Omaha5

Today is my first day back to the office after being gone to a week-long conference. The conference was very informative and we got a lot of great materials! They held the conference in Anaheim, CA so the weather was nice and we were right next to Disneyland. I walked to Downtown Disney each day and may have ended up stopping in the Lego store a couple of times to stock up for the grands!! I am finally recovering from the shingles. I have ended up with some nerve damage that the doc says may not go away. At least it doesn't hurt so much all the time any more! That was awful! I can't believe my insurance company doesn't cover the vaccine and the vaccine costs over $200. Good grief! Hopefully it doesn't come back while I am putting a little money aside for it.
Michelle - My daughter got married last November and I am so fortunate that all the families get along quite well. His parents are pretty quiet. My ex (the father of the bride) and his wife were very helpful whenever we needed it and we agreed up front to cover the costs even and gave our girl a smallish budget. The "kids" knew anything over budget was on them. I think my daughter did bat her eyes and get a little extra from her daddy though, I just try to stay out of that. I made all the floral arrangements using silks and they turned out much better than what we could have afforded. My apartment looked like a hot mess for about two months!! But, it all worked out, the wedding was beautiful and everyone had a great time! I am so sorry that it isn't working out that way for y'all Michelle!!
NYKAREN - Love the photos!! So glad you had fun! It looks beautiful and you and your daughter are so pretty!
Chris in MA - Beautiful photo and so awesome that it was a good day! Sounds like you are an amazing friend!
Barbiecat - Wow!! You were really busy! I don't believe I have ever gotten 16,000 steps in a day! I normally hover around 5,000.
Joyce in IN - I am from Kokomo, IN originally and still have family around there!! Love the picture of your kitties! I have a tortoise shell cat too! Her name is Yinyang and is quite appropriate for her silly personality!
Heather UK - Fantastic photo! Thank you for sharing!
Have to get ready to meet a new client this evening and then head home! I'm so grateful to have found this group!

Oooo. I almost forgot!! I got news! I got news!!
I am getting a new squishy (grandbaby) in April, 2018!! The kids told me this weekend! Whoohoo! I have broke out the yarn and started the baby's first crochet stuffed bunny! Okay, I am done now.
Wendy in Ark8 -
Happy Birthday Carol! Sounds like you had a nice birthday lunch!
Machka - glad you got your assignment in on time.
Dorrie - I agree with the others, glad Mr. H showed his true colors right away. Onward Condolences to your and your family. Glad Scott's mom and Kriss were there with him.
When my mom was gravely ill -fading fast from dementia, we kids stepped in and made the decision to stop her IV's and get hospice on the scene. Very hard decision - dad said later he was glad we took that step as he couldn't.
Heather - your smaller ship looks fabulous - I'd certainly pick that over the big one it is docked beside. So nice to have the personal attention as far as meals - other amenities sound great!
Meg - hooray for the new semester and new beginnings! Sorry it's still steamy in Omaha - we finally have cool air and clear skies (with fluffy white clouds) here in the Pacific Northwest.
Kelly - glad you got to see Joaquin's smiles! Is the visit to see him coming up in a month or two?
Wendy - glad your shingles are getting better and you enjoyed the conference. That's the PITS insurance doesn't cover it. Congrats on the upcoming April grandbaby! Hope all goes smoothly and you'll be giving her lots of hugs and kisses!

Carol , Happy Birthday
Dorrie , I am so sorry for your double loss.
We are very excited. The man that Jake called on Friday about making a concrete patio to replace our deck, came this morning and talked to us, gave us a price that sounded good and has already brought the wood for the framing so he can start work tomorrow and be finished no later than Thursday.

Carol - Happy Birthday!
Allie - You go, girl! One big hop forward. I figured when you said that TomCat had come back to house with the story of the road blocked due to trees ... he was going to try to weasel out of going to court today. That is a 'pretty' strong amount for 'alimony' ... Don't forget to start 'holding' some back to pay 'taxes' on it ... if it continues being called 'alimony' (that is considered 'income' to you). You might want to invest in talking to a CPA or a 'tax attorney' to get advice on that, who might be able to give you and your attorney ways to use the 'tax laws' for your best benefit. You need to put money up for 'emergency expenses'. You already know that you'll be probably having to come up with 1st and last months' rent and possibly a 'damage deposit' if you rent, on top of the 'current' month's rent.
Rye - Will you share your recipe for the protein bar(s)?
Michele - I'm sorry that you and Jess and Vince are dealing with the "Hyena From Hell". So, is Amanda Maria's daughter? Is Jess married? When I got married, I had 3 showers. One was a 'kitchen' shower put on by my Mother BFF (at her house, with my friends from school -; I lived in Atlanta - about 2 hours away). Then I was given a luncheon with my Mother's friends [put on by several other of her friends]. I can't remember what the 3rd one was; but, it might be that I only had 2. I registered at a house goods/furniture store in town. and with a place in Macon that sold the china, crystal, and silverware that I had picked out. I have 5 full 5-piece place settings and about 12 'extra' salad plates. It's been discontinued; but, I check with the China Finder places in Atlanta and they occasionally get pieces in and I could 'sell' my extra plates and turn around and buy the other 4 pieces I have to end up with a full 6 settings.
Couples don't seem to do that any more. They either want 'money' or get real specific about what you are going to give to them. I have to laugh at Will and what he got. He already had a 'nice' grill, his FnL made them a nice one, with a cooler beside it, his bosses all went in together and bought them one of the "Egg" smoker/grill. He's got enough ways to cook outside he could have a 'real throw down'. That doesn't count the 2 fish fryers he has. We get some 'good food' cooked for us. I'm taking some Tupperware containers, hoping that he will make his wonderful Chicken, Sausage and Duck gumbo to bring home with us. I 'think' we 'might' still have one container in the freezer, But, 'whoops' I forgot to label it, so we will have a 'surprise' supper one night, Will it be gumbo, chili, or spaghetti.
Going to get off and read for a while.
Lenora
Dorrie - I'm so very sorry for your loss. A stepbrother is like a 'family' member, even 'if' you were not 'blood' ... he was still family. You need time to 'grieve' in any manner that gets you through it. If he did not want to 'share' ... then he would have probably ended up 'not wanting to share your children'.
What a Narcissistic Toad! Maybe he and TomCat can get together and be 'roommates'. I've been married 45 years on the 20th and we have 'always' allowed the other 'time out'. It's important for that to occur. As the preacher who married us said ... a 'relationship should build it columns close enough to support the house (foundation and roof); but, not too far apart so as to make the center droop, or too close together to make the edges sag'. A bit from Genesis about a man taking a woman to be his and make a home together, a big from "Ruth" about a daughter following her MnL because 'her people (mother) were he (Ruth's) people' and she would not turn back. As bad as things might have been, Boaz took favor on her and they married. It is so much better that you found this out early than to invest your time (and possibly $$$) into someone who would probably very suddenly do what he has already done.
To all the rest of you ... have a wonderful week!

As requested: Thin Mint Protein Bar- it was so yummy - I had one after I swam this morning. The consistency is somewhere between fudge and a brownie. The taste is pure Girl Scout thin Mint cookie. I cut the recipe into 9 bars. Recipe and MFP nutrition info for one serving below:
Ingredients
3/4 Cup vanilla whey protein
1 serving unflavored whey protein
1 Cup cashews
10 dates
1/4 Cup unsweetened cocoa
1/2 tsp peppermint extract
1/4 Cup almond milk
Directions
Mix dates in food processor.
Mix in cashews.
Mix in all other ingredients until sticky ball forms.
Put in 9 x 9 dish (on parchment paper or greased)and freeze for 15 minutes
Cut into squares/rectangles
Store in fridge

Beautiful day today weatherwise. Clear skies and we can see the mountains. Tried a new type of Kind bar today. It was pressed cherry/apple with chia seed. Tasted pretty good and good for fiber, not so much protein.
Dorrie - Sorry for your loss. Glad you found out about the toad before it went much further.
KJ - That Joaquin just keeps getting cuter. What a charmer.
Carol - Happy Birthday!!!!
Wendy in Ark - Does having the shingles give you some immunity? Have you been advised to get the vaccine since you have already had them? I did get the vaccine and have had shingles twice since then, no lingering nerve pain however and that seems to be the biggest plus for getting the vaccine. Congratulations on the new grandbaby!
Everyone take care, Sue in WA2 -

Allie Congratulations on the alimony agreement. Now is that the temporary alimony you were asking for?
Dorrie so sorry for the loss of you step brother. Maybe Scott was reaching for a loved one coming to meet him!
I'm also sorry Mr. Handsome was such a jerk. Don't need a uncaring person in your life!

Pip: Viagra is a prescription medicine for men with erectile dysfunction.
Gloria: The medical version of MJ doesn't bring on a high, but it does relieve pain. You can eat either version rather than inhale. Brownies are famous. Back in the 70's I seasoned a pot roast with it and served it to my parents for dinner. Nobody got high, but they were the most relaxed and pleasant I've ever seen them. I wouldn't recommend it for people wanting to avoid overeating. :noway: :noway: :noway: Regarding using a bike indoors for fitness. We had a stand that we purchased from Performance Bicycles for about $200 but gave it away when DH could no longer balance on a two-wheeled bike. We now have a system that is manufactured for recumbent tricycles. Good luck finding what you need.
Heather: I love he photo of you in Tallin. You look wonderful!

Kate UK: I use my phone to record all my food, but when I want to visit with the ladies here it is too limiting, so I use my computer.

Good evening Ladies!
Oh Dorrie, I am so sorry for your losses. I know that a step sibling can be as close as a biological sibling, I have 2 and we never consider each other "step". You lost someone near and dear to you and it doesn't matter if it is blood or not. My heartfelt condolences.
Regarding your other loss, you don't know how many times I wanted to send you a warning, but I kept my own council hoping that this man would not turn out to be what I feared he would be. I was in a similar situation last summer, swept off my feet (the ladies here may remember my man who let me use one of his Porches while mine was being repaired), and then stunned when his true colors were revealed. All I can do is send you a virtual hug and congratulate you on not letting him manipulate you any further.
Allie, congratulations on getting the temporary alimony. From what you have told us, Tomcat appears to be a tightwad, and I don't know how fiscally responsible. I throw this out to you: is there a way you can get his wages garnished so that he has to,pay you? I say this because although I was awarded child support by the court (many, many years ago) my son's father rarely paid it. He had no choice once the court garnished his wages. I never had to make the phone call to beg for it again. I don't know if this can also be applied to alimony. I just would hate to have you count on that money for living expenses and have him not meet his obligations.
I've gotta run, had to put my 2 cents in though.
Love and hugs to all...Happy Birthday Carol, many, many healthy and happy years ahead!

Happy Birthday, Carol. Hope your day was special.
Dorris, you have had a sad weekend. Take care of you. Prayers for you and your family.

Chris I'm glad to see I wasn't the only one that saw a red light with Dorrie's suitor. He seemed overly controlling to me from the getgo.
Dorrie I am so sorry for you on both fronts. I have half sisters who have never been anything but my sisters to me - unfortunately that feeling is not recipracated. Since my mom died last year the only contact I have with them is if I instigate it.
Michelle my heart just breaks for you and all the upheaval of the wedding. I too fear what the interference of the MIL will do to that marriage. Too bad they don't live closer to you3 -
Did 10 minutes of Shaun T's Hip Hop Abs. That's OK. Then held my plank for 2 min 52 sec, then the extremepump class. The plan for tomorrow is to do a downloadable spinning workout. Haven't done that in a while.
Joyce - Loki was the same way when he was a kitten. Loud (very loud) purrer. He would let me pick him up and snuggle with him. Yes, he isn't like that today. He doesn't purr as loud. He will let me pick him to love him, but he doesn't want it to last real long. But....now that he's older he will lay down on the floor and spread himself spread eagle. This is a sign that they are comfortable in their surroundings and trusting. I bet because you loved him up so much when he was a kitten, he will be a very trusting and relaxed cat. That's a testament to you.
Lenora - oh, you are more than welcome to ride up to kick a***. Be my guest.
josephine - (((HUGS))) I do think that the trouble in Charlottsville has ended. I'm sure you'll do fine.
KJ - thanks for the baby Joaquin fix. I needed that. You know, lately I've been at the same weight (within a pound or two) but my watch seems to be really loose. In the past, in summertime it was on the tighter side, but lately it's been loose. I don't think loose enough that I need to have links taken out, but it feels loose.
Allie - I was thinking about you all day. Congrats on what you got. Will you be getting more?
Carol - happy birthday
Dorrie - so very sorry for your losses
Wendy - I am so sick to my stomach over this wedding/shower, that I just may wind up losing weight, so there's a plus to this. Big congrats!
Lenora - Amanda is the daughter of Maria's second husband (the one she's married to right now) Was your mother at each of the showers? I bet everyone was nice to one another. I tell ya, if Maria decides to have her own shower, I won't be there. She is running the wedding, now the shower, she's going to be running the marriage and, heaven forbid, any children they might have. Have you ever looked at Replacements, Inc. for those dishes? Happy early anniversary
Went to ceramics and then to mahjongg. I really wanted to get my mind off all this wedding/shower stuff.

I'm sad to report that my step brother Scott passed away at 853pm yesterday. My step Mom made the decision to take him off of life support, with a very unwilling and reluctant vote from my step sister Kriss, who is his blood sister. Twelve minutes later, he lifted both arms as if reaching for something, and took his last breath. He was surrounded by his entire family (other than myself and my children), and everyone had the chance to say goodbye as well as voice their opinion for the decision. My step sister Kriss - his only biological sibling - was holding on for a miracle, but the miracle she got was when he lifted his arms with her holding one of his hands and he squeezed her then let go as he took his last breath. On my wishes, my step Mom called after making the decision to remove life support, and I was able to be on the phone via video chat with the family as well - which was extremely surreal to say the least. My heart is aching for my son, who was very close to his uncle. Scott's services are going to be Saturday for immediate family. I'm not able to make it, as I have other obligations I cannot reschedule. My family will have another ceremonial wake type of event when I can go with my son, hopefully some time next month.
Another side note on Mr. Handsome - he's still handsome, but will not be in any further updates or posts unfortunately. I learned quickly that he wanted to be the center of my attention in ALL things, and there just wasn't any room in his mind for me to "waste time grieving the dead, he's gone, now pay attention to me" --- I was literally speechless --- when I asked him to clarify his statement, he said "Dorrie, you promised you'd spend time with me today. I don't care about grief, I'll help you get over it. He wasn't even a blood relative".... no, he wasn't, but he didn't need to be was my response, as well as asking him if he so easily dismissed grieving a close relative in the past. He said, "whatever, crawl into a hole, I'll be here when you want to act right"...So, not only did I lose my step brother, but I also quickly and with finality, removed Mr. Handsome from my life. He's been blocked from electronic communication and been warned that if he approaches me or comes to my door at any time, the police will be called. He has not as of yet chosen to show his face. Good riddance as far as I'm concerned. Back to being single, and grieving without someone telling me how and for how long...
Much love and respect from Vegas,
Dorrie aka TrulyDivyn
"You've been blessed with another day, go find out why" --- Dad
So sorry about your step brother.
Also sorry about Mr. Handsome, but in a different way. I'm afraid it did set off warning bells when you made the comment several days ago that he said he wanted to spend a whole bunch of time with you and would "help you with your homework". There was a guy in my life like that many years ago, and it got to the point where he sat in his car out front of my place because he was convinced I was seeing someone else when I'd told him I really needed to concentrate on my homework. Around that time, I had also sustained quite a serious injury to my left foot (burnt it to the bone) and had told him I couldn't go out with him wherever it was he wanted to go because I couldn't walk. Evidently he sat in his car out front of my place that evening too, and apparently saw me get out of a car and run up the path to the door ... and was furious! Um ... run?? I don't know who he saw but it certainly wasn't me. I could barely hobble to my bathroom. The end came very soon after that.
Meanwhile, take all the time you need to grieve. That's important.

Good Evening,
Dorrie: So very sorry for your loss.
Carol: Happy Birthday
It rained last night and the air was so clean this morning, no sign or smell of smoke. It was very nice when we went for our morning walk.
I was telling my husband about all of your comments on the Instant Pot and he bought me one. I love it, I took a frozen roast and in 1hour we had the most delicious dinner. Thank you so very much for all of your Instant Pot posts.
Hope everyone has a wonderful evening,

Call me crazy but I love to see other people happy and succeeding .
Good Evening my dear Friends,
MicheleNC, did the Mother of the groom expect the shower location to be changed at this point? Good grief. I hate for all of you that this has become such a stress.
Joyce, cute kitty picture.
Josephine, sorry you are having problems with the VA and with getting your thyroid pills. I might hold off on the Charlottesville trip if it were me. I normally just plow ahead but this stuff seems to have a life of its own. Just be safe.
Kelly, that is terrific that you have lost the inches and who cares about a pound or two. What a cute picture of Joaquin. I can’t believe it’s been 5 months!
Okie, it sounds like you have lost a size weather you know it or not. I’ll bet if you went to a store and tried on a smaller size it would fit. Anyway, congrats and keep up the good work.
Allie, I hope to see the results of your court date before I go to bed. I just read ahead and woo hoo, so glad they showed up. Now to get this show on the road. (((Hugs))) You are doing fantastic!!!
Dorrie, so sorry for your loss and also for the way Mr. Handsome turned out. It sounded like he might be just a little too possessive of your time. ((((Hugs)))) for you.
Heather, so glad you are getting the red carpet treatment on your cruise. Great pictures
CarolGA,
Meg, good for you to work on you while starting school. I agree, it’s a good time to work that into your schedule. (((Hugs)))
Wendy, congrats on the new arrival you are expecting. What fun!!!
Barbie, congrats on getting going on the patio. They are so much less maintenance than a deck. I’ve had both but so glad we have the patio now, at this age. Do send pictures when it’s done.
Sue, you got the vaccine and have had Shingles twice since???? OMG DH and I have both had them and I’ve been told we could get them again. We haven’t had the vaccine because of the cost and our insurance doesn’t cover it. My case wasn’t as bad because I knew what it was and went to the doctor early.
Dana, your deer are so cute. Driving home at dusk the other day I saw 7 or 8 on the side of the highway. I was fearful that some might run into the traffic.
Pip, you said, “lmao!!!!!! I know what they are, just didn't know the color of the pill lolololol”. I also laughed when I read the explanation because I just knew that you knew.
to all the Newbies. Come often and join in the chat. This thing works!! Please sign your post with what you want to be called. It makes it easier for us to respond to you. Also a location is great, be it specific or general. We are happy to have you join us.
I had a board meeting tonight and have a doctor’s appointment in the morning. It still rains some each day but at least not all day. I went to bed almost 2 hours ago but hip was hurting so much that I couldn’t go to sleep. I got up after an hour and took a pain pill and finished catching up here. Now I will go try again.
Sending love, good thoughts and cool sunshine to all of you.
I Love you

Even ladies! Temperatures are going back up and it is muggy again so I guess our temporary reprieve is gone. Charlie had decided that we didn't need some one to mow the lawn but I think he will change his mind as the humidity goes back up. Even the evenings is bad. But. It looks so nice when they come and use the weed eater and mow so nice and my husband isn't totall exhausted.
Michelle I don't know what world I have been living in but I don't think I have ever heard of a bridal shower at a buffet or any kind of dinner place. They have always been at a relaxed atmosphere at a reception hall or a home with finger food.
Allie, I know so much is going through your mind right now but I like the ladies suggestion about having the alimony taken out of his paycheck. My ex son in law was one of those dead beat dads that had to have his wages garnished or his daughter would have never gotten any support from him. Why in the world the women would marry him after he had been a dead beat dad for 13 years I don't know. But that is who he cheated on my daughter with. They married and had another child. Then she cheated on him!!!! HA HA.
Wendy, when my girls got married, they were both going to make their own flowers. Christina was going to have a bonding experience with her bridesmaids and do it. Well, it was senior year in college and they never found a time to do it. We had all the flowers and found a friend of my parents who finished them for us. For Michellem it was pretty much going to be her and I. We made many trips to Hobby Lobby and had all the things. We just couldn't get the hang of things. One day she was so frustrated she just put all her silk flowers out on her barroom floor and grabbed. She liked what she had and then wrapped the florist tape around them! So that's pretty much how we finished them but with a little more finise'. I kept both the girls flowers for years in a special box along with the bouquets from my parents 50th wedding anniversary and any other occasion I had a corsage. We have a lady at church that can turn anything into a beautiful arrangement so now I can just go in any day and see both my girls wedding bouquets all together in a lovely arrangement. Congrats on the new baby.
I got a new grand child this week! Michelle is terrible at being a foster parent to her dogs. She gets difficult fosters because the rescue place knows she is patient and loves them into being great dogs. Plus she loves to foster the big dogs. Well after a year after forsterimg Onyx she adopted him. So know I have another fur grand baby. She loves boxers in particular and he is a boxer/lab mix but mostly boxer. He is the one who was heart worm positive and just recently was negative and was able to be a dog and run and play and wrestle like dogs love to do. Her boxer is in 'heaven' now that he can finally wrestle and p.ay with him. Her other dog is an old guy and has arthritis so bad he can hardly walk. She bought him one of the collapsible wagons so he can go from her car to the dog park and just sit and play with the the older dogs. There is a little dog who is scared of the big dogs there and she shares the wagon with Timmy and he loves to 'mother' this little guy although Timmy is a male.
Charlie has told me that Mozart comes in and they snuggle during the night but I didn't know what he meant. He gets up pretty much the same time every night to empty his ileostomy bag and Mr Mozart goes him to 'help' him. I don't know how that cat can take the smell. Anyway, when Charlie goes back to bed, Mozart gets on his chest, purrs like a motorcycle for awhile and they cuddle. Charlie then tells him to get down and he goes back to sleep. When Charlie is in the family room most of the day, Melody never goes down there. She like me do. Or like his bursts of anger at Fox News or in whatever Wii game he is playing. But Mozart loves to go sit with him. I am glad they are bonding. I know that is in the 1st 2 weeks we had him I had asked Charlie if he wanted to take him back to the rescue he would have said no. But now he loves to take I tires of him and show his karaoke buddies.

Congratulations, Allie. This sounds like a great start.
I am sorry for your loss, Dorrie. I am a little relieved about the frog. He was freaking me out a little. Too possessive and controlling.
Happy birthday, Carol.
Busy at work, but it's good.
