I am ridiculously excited about my ParkRun tomorrow
This is totally and completely crazy.
Lovin' it.
Oh, and lazy teenage daughter is still running with me (C25K). Teenage son is still running with me (10k training).
Toddler is desperate to do "mini-runs with you, Mummy!" (she wants to take her dolly in it's pushchair to Junior ParkRuns, bless). Just have to work on encouraging my very lazy 12 year old son (although he has a let-out clause as he's currently receiving physio for feet problems, although this may be more to do with tight muscles than his actual feet) - and all of my children will be running!
Not bad for a family who didn't "do" running unless it was an emergency situation.28 -

Yeah, the only running I did before I took up the C25K was to rescue the kids from imminent danger!8 -
I unpacked the dresses I had saved from 2010 and sporadically tried on over the past year. Last time I packed them away in March, and today they all fit. Not sure if I should keep them, as I bought them when I was 23 and now I'm 30 (style and all), but dang, it feels good to be able to rock them again!
I've been doing this, too!! I'm questioning a few hemlines (did I really wear skirts THAT short?!), but I love that they are fitting again. Some are fitting even better .15 -
I walked 45 miles this week. Next week I'm aiming for 50.20

I'm NOT one for selfies at the gym, but a friend snuck up on me while I was doing assisted chin-ups and snapped this. Had no idea I had back muscles! This is from one year working at the gym (joined on my 50th birthday--first time EVER working out or even stepping foot in a gym). I don't have a 'before' picture of my back but will show you my front shot--just assume my back is all soft and doughy-like. (-135 lbs lost--hence the loose skin over my bra).

Not bad for a family who didn't "do" running unless it was an emergency situation.
Your family is just the best possible example of how the model of the parent becomes the pattern for the children, whether it's obesity or fitness. Kudos to you all!17 -

Just a heads up, with that kind of mileage you may need to change the front chainring, too. If you find the new chain sometimes skips under hard pedaling, that'll be the culprit.
Ah - I will keep an eye on that as I did have a few incidences of the chain slipping/skipping (but not since fitting the new chain, haven't had a chance to get out as the weather has been so awful). Thank you for mentioning that. That's something else I really like about these threads - how much you learn.
And one of my tyres will need replacing again soon. In fact the way I'm going, I will have replaced everything on it except the frame before long . . . better start saving for a new bike
On my road bike, I usually wear out rear tires faster than the front, and rear tires wear differently - they sort of square off, whereas the front tire wears more evenly across the tread side-to-side. So usually I'll get a new tire and put it on the front, then move the old front tire to the rear.
(This doesn't work for my mountain bike, BTW. I run different tires front and rear.)4 -

Aw, thank you! But you are right about the generational pattern of behaviour - I grew up in a smoking household (both parents) and I was the only one of four children who didn't smoke. I thought it disgusting as I grew up and find it disgusting now. The houses I grew up in were just brown and smelly. That's all I remember, brown staining on walls and ceilings and the gross smell of cigarettes. Not a nice environment. Now in our forties with children, I'm still the only one who doesn't smoke. My nieces and nephews all smoke. My dad actually gave up smoking a few years ago (but he's now got COPD and other poor health issues directly linked to smoking). My mum still smokes and her health is beginning to suffer as well. I'm just waiting to hear bad news about my siblings. Goodness knows what damage it did to me as well, as a passive smoker for 19 years (from birth - I got out as soon as I could!).
These behavioural patterns always interested me when I first worked in children's healthcare as I actually thought that HCP interventions, when the family wanted them, could help. By the time I stopped working in that field many years later, I'd grown very jaded about the whole thing. I never stopped trying to help families but some just don't want to be helped. It's upsetting to realise that some children just don't have a decent future, purely because they are stuck in this self-perpetuating cycle. I've seen children eating crisps and sweets washed down with fizzy drinks for breakfast as their parents were essentially clueless about nutrition. And you know that those children's children will grow up in the same way. It takes self-awareness, knowledge, determination and real strength to break that cycle sometimes.
And now I'm getting emotional, thinking about those kids/families that I couldn't help, and thinking about how mine could have turned out had I carried on the way I was, an unfit, morbidly obese, unhealthy person
I'm taking my toddler to her first ParkRun tomorrow. She wanted to run with me today but that would have been a bit too much for her - she's not up to a 5k just yet (well, she could walk it but we'd still be there now if I'd let her!). My son ran with me this morning21 -

Yeah, my rear tyre wears out quicker than the front; bit like car tires really, the ones doing the majority of the work wear out first - and my back tyre has a lot to cope with as I'm not at my goal weight yet I only cycle on the roads, the cycle paths get clogged up with people, dogs and horses. And real off-roading isn't my thing at the moment. I may try it sometime.6 -
I have been doing Crossfit since late March and today I had a PR for deadlift of 195 lbs. It is amazing the changes my body is going through, makes me want to go and push myself even more.
Also it is interesting being one of the older members at 51 years old and keeping up with 20 and 30 year olds.21 -
When I was in middle school, there was a popular clothing store at the mall that all the girls at school shopped at called 5-7-9. They only carried sizes 5-9. I remember being devastated and embarrassed that I was too big to shop there. I'm not even sure if that store is around anymore but I recently realized that now that I am a size 4 (for the first time ever in my life), I would be too small to shop there!
I remember those stores and I also could not shop there. I now wear 4/6 so I could probably fit in the lower range. Isn't it great!15 -

Literally in the same boat. Pushing 30 but pulling out old clothes from my early 20s. I look great in them and I don't care!!

Today I managed to run further than I ever have before without taking a walking break.
Also managed to eat a proper full English breakfast (sausage, egg, bacon, black pudding, hash brown, beans, fried mushrooms and tomatoes) and astonishingly, didn't go over on calories for the day
I would have switched out the black pudding for fried bread. But that's just me I need a trip to the UK so badly!6 -

I've got many NSVs because I forced myself to wait until I finished reading the whole thread until I posted, but I'm most proud of my last doctor's appointment. At my last appointment, my doctor was concerned about cholesterol and the way that my weight was just going up. My asthma was not well controlled and my ibs was also bad. My doctor put me on a new medicine for ibs and counseled me to change my eating habits and to start exercising.
Flash forward 5 months and I go back for a follow up. I'm down 15 pounds and my cholesterol is down 30 points. My doctor was so pleased and I think a little surprised that I followed her advice. She reaffirmed that my goal weight is right on target with where she wants me to be. And she was able to lower the dose on my asthma medication because my breathing sounded so much better. One step closer to my goal of getting off my medications!33 -
Started back on July 14th, down 11.2 lbs and 7.25" overall. Long weigh(see what I did there...lol) from goal but I'm stoked to see some NSVs.
1.) jeans that wouldn't button or zip fit and now some need a belt
2.) no cup overflow anymore
3.) fit bit strap loose-moved up a notch
4.) no Pepsi cravings!!!(big one for me)
5.) work uniforms very roomy now

Tried this shirt a few days ago. It's a tight elastic fitness shirt. Usually, this kind of shirt feel horrible. Until now, I guess. I'm not at my greatest shape yet, but it looked kind of good !

Bought new sports bra from VS today. Got the new 34DD instead of the 36D. Feeling super sexy.23

Ok...either I have a weird concept of what size I am or stores don't know what a medium is. Either way, I feel bad for the truly thin girls out there because I went shopping today with the intent of buying either size 4/6 pants and shorts and a few small/medium tops. Ended up with size 2 pants (loose because I am always paranoid they will shrink and I am just uncomfortable in tight clothes) and an extra small top.
AND this morning I did a charity walk/run (I walked because I have bad knees). Took a picture with my husband and brother in law after the race and my legs looked so awesome! Thanks water aerobics!

I'm not out of breath walking up a small flight of stairs anymore.
No more rolls when I'm standing up.
I'm only half of a couch cushion now lol

Went clothes shopping with my daughter (back to school). Decided to try on a pair of jeans. Size 10 Boyfriend cut Levi's!!!! (No stretchy stuff, just cotton). OMG, I have never been a size 10! I went straight from children's "Husky" to a 16 growing up. Very fitted, but not tight (no gut rolling over) so shrinking another size will still have them looking good! So yay, I own a grand total of 1 pair of jeans my size and 2 size 12's that are starting to need a belt.28

I was able to enjoy ice cream yesterday with zero guilt. I've been craving a cone from my childhood ice cream shop -- chocolate soft-serve in a sugar cone, with chocolate sprinkles. Made plans with my husband to take a road trip out there yesterday... I got up early and went walking to add some exercise calories, and planned all my food out for the day including a big salad for dinner. I ended the day under my calorie goal, and enjoyed the living daylights out of that cone -- sitting in the sunshine, savoring it, and not guilty about eating it for one second. I felt bad for the 2 women standing near me in line, buying ice cream for their kids, and talking about how they couldn't get even a small cone because they wanted to lose weight. That was me 6 weeks ago (except I would have gotten a cone and felt horrible about it). And scale victory on top -- stepped on the scale this morning and I'm down another pound, which shows me that CICO really does work!31

My little girl, who's just four years old, has completed her first Junior ParkRun (2km). She ran at least 50% of the way and had such a good time that when we got to the end, she wanted to go around the course again, there and then - immediately. I am so proud of her! She wants to go again next week. The ParkRun guys were great as well, really encouraging to her.
Then, we got home and went off to do a cycling orienteering event - the whole family on bikes. We had a fabulous time, I don't think we won as we only went 9 miles in total (which is about 7 miles further than my younger son has ever cycled, and the only breaks he got were when we stopped to find the markers). I am so pleased that they all enjoyed it, especially my younger son as he is always so reluctant to do anything physical. I am going to try to get him out on the bike more often than the once a week he has been going.
The day started out well and then went a bit ugh as DH and I arranged to go out for lunch but due to an accident and enormous traffic queues, we didn't get there. Saved eating a ton of calories though, I suppose. And I'll get a long bike ride instead. Not so bad after all!37 -

After only 5 weeks of limiting my sugar intake, the dark ring around my neck and the dark spots on my knees caused by diabetes have disappeared! It was a total surprise.33
