Hi all! Glad everyone is safe so far. <3

Carol - Beautiful couple! You must have got married one year before my first wedding. I was only 20 years old.

Penny - Thanks for the mini holiday! :D

Terry - You are surely mega talented! Great to hear of the adoption and the meeting anniversary. You are blessed to have found each other. <3 My DH and I also celebrate our meeting anniversary. Somehow it seems more important than our wedding day. It happens to be my grandson's birthday as well. :D

Talking of birthdays, the next one is Edie's, my middle grandchild. I happen to have a no 4 cake tin, so I've offered to make the cake. :o I'm doing a FROZEN theme and have ordered loads of stuff from Amazon. I asked her mum first if she approved. I'm not entirely happy with all this commercialisation of childhood and gender stereotyping, but Edie adores it all. Her mum then asked me if her present from us could be an Elsa outfit, so I've swallowed my qualms and I'm getting her one, along with a wand and tiara etc. :o;) One thing I love about Edie is, although she is very much a girl, she is incredibly tough and physically intrepid. Fearless and emotionally strong.

Made a whole orange cake this afternoon for DH. Sprouted some moth beans overnight in the IP for Indian ussal. I freeze them in 4 oz packets. Then I made a lamb tagine in the IP. I adapted a Hairy Bikers one. Looks great. Alcohol free day today - I've been falling back into my old ways and want to nip it in the bud.

    Love Heather UK xxxxxxx

Yep I have read his letters and have them in a paper clipped stack on my writing desk. Along with the piles of the other two. Maybe I will bind them up to give to them for Christmas. I don't know if Christmas will be at our home or at my middle sons this year. I don't think from the time they move in, in November it will be enough time to set up their apartment. My husband is all for not decorating this year! The humbug! My plan is to squeeze out $200 each month to save four the moving fees. That would be about $1200. Also buy a couple of boxes each month and fill to put in the spare room. Physically I am dreading moving book boxes with stairs! I'm thinking we should call the recruiting office and state a mandatory PT test at the Gossett house ASAP! Rent a truck and let those future sailors do the grunt work! I don't actually think we could do that, but its fun to ponder!

Today we are going to Astoria's food bank. Depending on what we get, will determine what I need to buy. We have done well this month! We managed to put aside money for the gas trip up to Whidbey island, pay for a couple of the meals, but most were paid by the son. Our son has lost some weight on his 7 month cruise, so I am hoping he doesn't frequent the fast food places too much. That's where sharing a home with him will do him good. Keeping the frig stocked with healthier stuff. He is already digging into the fried rice I put in the freezer for him!

I pretty much have everything of mine out of the master bathroom, and use the bathroom my son used to use. Its kind of fun not sharing counter space with husband. I haven't yet discussed being responsible for the cleaning. I'm just tired of looking at razor clippings around the sink, or cleaning the toilet! I have been stating you can't use my bathroom, and he sits down with a book laughing! Noooo I laugh! I have such a loon for a husband!

I think whatever my husband wrote to Owain, he mentally heard. My husband told me he wrote about seeing things thru. About if he quit he would have a hard time with himself. He was speaking as a Chief, more than as his father. So my son listened, and understood.

Well need to scoot! Have a blessed day all! Love ya!!

Penny: I loved the road trip! Thanks so much for the opportunity to see the place where you live. :star:

Karen in VA: This is the first time I've been to a class reunion because I was never invited before. Many of the people I wanted to see the most were not there, but I did get to see some old friends from my neighborhood. Several travelled from a long ways away to get there. One woman I knew well from grade school days onward now lives in Yuma, AZ and came up for the reunion. One of the guys flew in from Texas. There is another event today, but I am not going to that one--a fancy sit down dinner at a winery.

Joanne: Cheri is not a student; her husband is employed by the university.

Marcelyn: Thanks for the good news about College Station. :flowerforyou:

M in OZ: Help your antibiotics along with lots of fluids. Chicken soup really does combat colds and flu symptoms, and is a good choice if you are not a vegetarian.

Carol: Congratulations on 48 years of marriage. WTG!!! We're just one year behind you.

Lisa: I'm glad to hear that you're safe and home again.

Allie: You are surely lucky to have the support of your dad. My parents have both been gone for more than 20 years.

Regarding the 50th class reunion: Some of the people who were acquaintances back in the day were at the event yesterday, including one woman I'd known since grade school and a couple more that went to Junior High with me. For the most part it seemed like the "popular" crowd showed up. Three friends I'd hoped to see were never found despite a good effort on the part of the organizer. There is another event today but I'm not planning to go. I am going to call my old best friend and share what I can. I drove by with old high school to show it to DH and he was mightily impressed by the enormity of the place. Impressed doesn't mean admiration, in this case. The school was too big, and had almost 2,000 students divided into three classes when I was there. The old hometown has built several high schools since then, and none are huge monstrosities.

Our trip home from the reunion last night included driving past hundreds of people competing in the Hood To Coast relay race. They were all wearing reflective clothing and many also had flashing lights on their backs. Teams generally travel together in some sort of minivan. One person runs while the rest of the team "rests" in the van. My niece has participated in past years and really enjoyed it but I don't think she had time off from work this time. The walkers have a separate start and we saw them while we were on our way to Salem in the morning. Traffic was nasty on the way down and easy on the way home. The state fair started yesterday and I think that was a cause of much of the traffic earlier in the day.

Beth - I also have a Black and Decker battery operated weed whacker (like NYKAREN). One thing I really like about it is that the battery and I both get run down at the same time. It gives me a perfectly good excuse to rest. >:) The battery recharges fairly quickly - it's ready to get back to work before I am.

I have Ryobi battery powered yard tools (including a lawn mower) but my husband got me several spare batteries and charging stations. Sadly.

Bright sunny day here in Tennessee today. Thinking of all of you in the path of Harvey. Praying for safety and protection.

Pip - Did I see you say you rode to the gym and only exercised your jaw?!?!?!

Becca - so glad you heard from your son.

Penny - What a beautiful drive!

Heather - Have you ever considered being a party planner? The Frozen birthday for Edie sounds magical. She will love it!

Happy anniversary to all of you who have them this month. If my ex and I had stayed together it would have been 47 for us on the 8th. Am I really that old?!?

    Where is Kelly?

    Hi ladies,

Safety and mucho prayers for our friends in Texas who are being affected by Harvey. We've also been watching him on TV. The satellite pictures shows just how big he is, so we probably will get a lot of rain out of it; since, once they hit, they usually turn in a NE fashion. But, they have said it will probably stall in the region and/or could turn back over the Gulf and bounce along the shoreline. Will is working his @$$ off trying to cut all the roads. He worked all day yesterday. Last night he told use he has 257 acres of roads to cut. Using big equipment and wants to make sure he gets it back (at least on the dirt road that borders their property.

We had an uneventful trip out. Pretty cloudy with some breaks of sun.

We got the 'best' surprise of our lives last night when we got here. We had a family picture made. Tami likes doing that. So we are standing in the kitchen bunched up and Mallory said, 'smile' and 'say' "Mama's going to have a baby!" I'm standing there, I think I thought Mallory was just kidding and how that just did not seem right; then it hit me and I turn and look at them and screamed and started crying. Everything is going well. Please keep them in your prayers. Showed us pictures of the fetus and explained everything to us. Took Louis a lot longer to see it than it did for me. Bloodwork is looking good. This was their 3 attempt at IVF and this was a pure miracle. She has lost the first two. Said that one procedure they did was to 'scrape' the inside of her uterus before implanting the 'already' forming baby in the dish hurt so bad and they do it without any anesthesia. Nurse told her that most women go screaming, cursing, and crying. I guess maybe the scraping was so that it would stick and start forming the placenta ... which on the picture looked like tiny bubbles. I am SOOOO excited for them all.

She has to have a huge shot in her backside, right over her butt-cheeks, every night at 8:30pm. Both Will and Mallory take turns giving her the shot. The nurse drew the area that they need to give it so they don't hit a vessel. Mallory did that one night and freaked out; but, things were all ok; she actually had not put the medicine in; so Will gave it to her. The way they told her was to write on her backside ... "You're going to be a big sister!" They haven't told some family members, including our son and had taken down her FB page so that they would not get tagged and have them 'find out about it that way'. Especially, since Jenn stays on it 24/7/365. Takes it to bed with her (literally). I am beyond being 'thrilled'. Asked her to send it to my phone and show my sisters the video when we get together for our Beach Trip next month. I don't know if anybody else cried; but, Will had this huge grin on his face. I know I asked you before; but, PLEASE PRAY FOR TAMI!!!! And Will and Mallory. This has been a year in the making. Last August, when we came out, they said they had to go pick up something and they drove to Jackson to have it done. I know she'll have to go get blood work on a regular basis. Besides the shots in her butt, that look like 'horse needles', has to take some other kind of medication. Has to brush her teeth with a toothpaste with fluoride in it (so she is brushing her teeth with a child's toothpaste. Did I say I was 'dancing with happy feet'??????

Becca - The letter was beautiful! He has made a great choice and he will do very well at what he will be doing. Yep, being in the service is a big commitment. He's be a 'man' when he comes home at Christmas. I'd make a scrapbook, but, I would keep it for myself. Maybe you could copy the letters you write to him and also put that in it. Write one asking what he is doing, if he likes it, and then put his return letter behind it, in chronological order.

Allie - Did the owner of the condo take your offer or did you counter-offer his refusal? Either way, I know you kept a cool head and did the right thing. Yeah, it's yours and now you can have fun decorating a place that doesn't have any of TomCat in it. Does the entire condo place have the rule of 'no pets'; or, was that just the owner's rule? TomCat's 'attorney' wanting to go to court on Monday ... that couldn't happen, unless y'all don't celebrate Labor Day (which is a Federal holiday). What 'was' she thinking? Absolutely nothing. She has probably filed a Motion to Suppress ... because TomCat knows you are asking for an equitable split and he might be trying to 'hide' marital assets. I know you hate that it has been put off ... she probably IS stalling and was hopeful that she could get all this suppressed to lessen the amount you are going to be 'entitled' to have awarded to you. It'd be funny if he has to pay you a % of all property his owns, the house there, the place in FL, his retirement, and bank accounts ... or at least have to pay you the sum of the money you have earned and was put in a joint (or his account, personally) as part of the settlement.

Welcome to all the Newbies. I've enjoyed seeing the pictures that are posted. It lets me 'go to places vicariously though each of you! Painted rocks are all the 'craze' here, too. They liked my painted rocks that I made for them. I also made some for Trey and his girls (including DDnL#1

Well we brought home a carload of goodies from the food bank! We recd salmon, peppered meat strips for fajitas, tri-layered bean dip (bad), doughnuts ( half are in freezer), lemon pie (cut up and just tweo pieces in frig, rest freezing), potatoes ( those finger shaped kind), bread (gluten free wheat), pita crackers ( for awfully yummy looking bean dip), asparagus, Italian looking filled mushrooms ( those large kind!), balsamic dressing yum!, and other stuff! The guys running it today were so nice, and its a very humbling experience. I am so thankful!
Tonight is lasagna hamburger helper with corn on cob, and bread. I am having diced tomatoes in my serving. The hamburger helper box is $1, as well as the hamburger! Everything else is food bank. Last time we had it, I put cottage cheese on my plate, and ended up finishing a tub in about two days! I love the taste of it, and hadn't had out in awhile! So no buying that for a couple months! Next month its some yogurts! Dairy is a special treat! With some feral mixed in drizzled with honey! Yummy!
OK OK, stop with the exclamation marks Rebecca....... Heehee.

    Carol Happy Anniversary

    Rye gorgeous!

Went to State Fair today with son. Didn't take any pictures just had fun. The lemon curd, chocolate, cookie sundae at the dairy building was to live for. Hands down best thing I ate at the Fair. I also got a Chevy T-shirt to wear in my new Chevy and a T shirt promoting the new show The Gifted. It will be fun to wear when I sub. I was hoping the rain would cut down on the crowds. It did help some. We fortunately missed the brunt of it.

    evening ladies~
I am sitting in bed, relaxing.. had a lovely day.. my co worker Mary and I went down to lavender pond farm... the lavender has gone by but still a beautiful place. and I was good I didn't buy anything...
Then we went to see our old co-worker she has a little cart and does grilled cheese, and we had one of those, came home and took an hour nap, then went up to my dads ,My son and I hoed out one closet, I dread the day we have to go through that whole hose.. it would probably take 2 industrial size dumpsters to clean it out..
now I am home and drinking Ice water... a beautiful breeze coming through the windows..
