I see September has been a relatively low-exercise month the last two years ... ideally I'd like to improve on that and do slightly more this year.

WOWWWWWWWWWWWWWW NEW PEOPLE since I logged my miles on the 4th....!
WELCOME..WELCOME...WELCOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
a 50 mile goal is great Cassie AND Serser... Just hang in there and do your best!!!
Machka we have been too perth. Dont remember if I ever told you that. We were on a tour. Started out in Sidney and took the train too Perth. We've been several places there. We loved Ayers Rock...We were there in in November and I THINK that is Spring there?
thus far Sept 2nd.............9.0 Walking Miles
Sunday 3rd ......................2.0 Walking Miles between Church Services...It was cooler this Sunday. We don't usually get a walk on Sundays but as it gets cooler we do..
Monday Sept 4th................3.5 Walking Miles
TOTAL as of Sept 4th........ 14.5 Walking Miles1 -
Also Cassie & Serser I wanted too add that MOST OF US have been walking for several years. When I started in 2009 I only walked from my house too the neighbors which is about 1/4 th of a mile. I increased as time went on. At one point (after a couple of years) I was walking 5 miles a day. I have 2 dogs now and usually we only get about 3 miles a day UNLESS I take another walk by myself. When we go camping I walk many times a day and have got in as many as 9-11 miles in one day. Last camping trip though I only managed 6-8 if I remember correctly.
All that being said I am probably the OLDEST person on the forum. I will turn 65 on October 10th. I wish I had started walking YEARS ago. Health Issues made me start walking. I lost 50 pounds and my cholesterol levels dropped. I have gained a bit of weight back. I am trying really hard too get that off but I seem too have problems dropping my calories low enough...I dont' give up. I just keep taking one day at a time...
ANYONE that MOVES too try and better their health is NOT A LOSER! I am happy too have all of you here with me. I have been doing these challenges since OCTOBER 2013 . People come and go. I think one month I was by myself for most of the month. IF I ever give up/quit then I know I will fall back into old habits and ruts. SO with GOD'S help I carry on...3 -
I am four days late but would love to join.
My goal is 3,000 daily steps for September.
My goal is also Swim Exercise 1 hr for 3 times weekly.
It doesn't sound like very much but disabled and recovering so this will be a challenge for me.
Good luck to all

Thank you for the encouragement. It gives me hope that the more I start to walk the better I will get. I also have high cholesterol so would be great if walking helped to lower it. Thanks again.

I'm back!
So I came to the realization today that ice only been tracking my walks with the 'map my walk' app and not counting any additional steps I've done throughout the day. As I don't have a fitbit ( I use a Gear 2 for samsung) I was unaware that the miles done by the daily steps were automatically calculated. So although I did 130km of walking/biking/elliptical/rowing last month, it seems that I had done much much more than that. I am looking into getting a second hand fitbit so until then I will keep logging how I have been (only intentional walks. Rather than steps). I will then reset my monthly goal
That being said. How does everyone else track?1 -

I use the old fashioned ordinary Pedometer! lol.... I actually like it better for myself. I don't wear it all day. I use it for the walks with the girls. I use it for when we go shopping. I don't use it around the house for steps through out the day. I do know that adds steps which adds miles BUT I want too see the actual steps/miles I get from exercise.. ...

I feel that I will push myself more to get out and go for a walk if im not calculating all my steps.. so I may keep doing that! Thanks!!!0 -

I suspect that's a different Perth. The Perth on the map is Perth, Tasmania. The one you went to was likely the city in Western Australia.
And yes, November is spring ... spring is from September 1 to November 30.

I only count intentional walks.
I do not count walking back and forth to the photocopier, walking to the kitchen to get a cup of coffee, walking to the toilet, walking around the grocery store, walking around the house ... all of that falls under the heading "sedentary", so I don't track it.
The intentional walks I do count are my commutes to and from work and university, my lunch-time walks, and my walks after work.
I did use a pedometer last October as part of a workplace fitness challenge, and it was funny to see that it just about doubled the distance I record ... so if I did 4 km of intentional walking, that pedometer often recorded 7 or 8 km. Even knowing that, I'm not about to count it. As mentioned it is included in "sedentary" and even if it happens to be slightly more than "sedentary", it offsets any extra calories I might inadvertently consume.3 -

Perth, Tasmania is Perth Australia too ... I think it might even be older than Perth, Western Australia.
Funny story (the "oh dear" sort of funny) ... when the Malaysian plane disappeared, the search was conducted near Perth, Western Australia which is right on the water on the western side of Australia ... but one North American TV news station got it mixed up and showed a lovely map of Perth, Tasmania. Trouble was ... Perth, Tasmania is in the eastern part of Australia and is land locked.1 -
