Heather - neat photo of you and brother! Love the new lipstick and shades. You are making me hungry for crab cakes.
Wendy - Major is the perfect name for your new little guy. He looks like a major! I slept in the guestroom with our new puppy three months ago so we wouldn't disturb DH ... we are still there! Rosie doesn't complain if I snore, lol.
I love seeing everyone's puppies and kitties! Dolly, Bonnie's coonhound, Rye's lovable cat. They bring such joy to our lives.
Tere - your husband is really going thru it! Hope recovery from the surgery goes well (for both of you!). Glad he's weathering the pain w/o being too much of a pain, lol. Always good to get caught up with you - thanks for popping in.
Carol - I keep thinking about your asbestos flooring. Our house is 20 years old so we are likely OK with our original linoleum here. I think back to the house I was raised in, built before 1900 - had white asbestos siding and I can still see the old linoleum on the floor which had worn spots. Anyhow, hope the floor repair and covering replacement goes without any new hitches. Gives me the shivers to think of the place being torn up for a while but focus on how nice it will be when it's done. DH and I have discussed putting tile down here eventually - I think it might be noisier and colder in the winter, but am also interested in hearing what other folks have done. Wood and/or laminate might be nice too - tho I fear water and warping.
My walk yesterday did not materialize so will try it right now. We are in between rainclouds for a while. It's snowing about 20 miles east of us! Early for the season... it's the year of extremes.

Y'all have to stop with the cute pet pics.
Kay in NEGA, who does. Not. Need. A. Dog.
No, I don't. But I am so tempted......3 -

I am not a ray of sunshine today!!!! Not that I'm sad, its just that its raining like a mother today, and last night!!!! We had tornado warnings for the coast, but it was mostly off Washington area. That was yesterday at 4 pm. Lightning and thunder was fun though.
Missing my son Terribly! Just his voice. I wish he'd call but I know he's so busy. The letter to my middle son from him sounded good though. He is even writing stories, which he did at home for enjoyment.
You all are amazing, and for the most part I am in awe of you!

Hey, Katiebug, I bought an Instant Pot because y'all recommended it so highly. Your turn. You know you want a doggie....4

I need to get on track I am going to start my advocare cleans next week after this weekend prep for it. (hopefully) and then get in gear ans stick with my goals. Losing weight watching what I eat-log food and exercising daily - planks and yoga. Get support here and give support back.
Wow what a week we were honored to attend the Cincinnati walk for kids for the Cincinnati children's hospital. My granddaughter Mara has Turners syndrome and we got to support her we won 1st place in the spirit award. So great time but... I came home and am at my highest weight since I moved to Iowa 4 years ago.

Greetings to all. It’s hot and steamy again today; it looks like summer does not want to give up. I am planting mums this evening however, so at least the front of my house will look appropriate for the season!
Heather: great pic!
Wendy: take BOTH of them, they are such cuties! I am crazy about both!!!.....OK wait…OMG Major is gorgeous!!! Love his coloring!
Joyce: hope sis is OK now!
Sharon: you have got to be kidding! How rude!
DrKatie: you and I both can use some serious sucking it up. Time for the big girl panties for both of us!!! Seriously, I hope whatever the problem is you can get it resolved soon. (((hugs)))
Rye: such a good idea about the group texts. I will have to remember that.
Yvonne: I am jealous of your hummers! We are on the edge of the ruby throats’ range, so occasionally see one or two.
Lenora: my hubby got to where he couldn’t tolerate statins either. I’m glad because you’re right about that price!
Barbie: I keep trying to meditate and my mind just wanders and wanders. Any tips?
Michele: that wedding drama just won’t end, will it? I think weddings often bring out the worst in people. I hope they resolve their differences.
Dana: you know how much I just love your Dolly girl. Roscoe, the 3-legged treeing walker coonhound got adopted, so I feel better for him now.
KJ: hope MIL is getting along ok with your help.
WOW look at all the cool pics. I really want to add a dog, but not til I know where DH will be designated.
So court is tomorrow at 1:30. Please send good wishes for only 42 months. I can do that. Also did I tell you his biopsy came back as a fatty tumor? They still have to remove it and that is scheduled for Oct 4, but at least it was benign.
Meg, taking deep breaths here in Omaha.

Rye--The watch you got your MIL sounds like a good deal and keeps everyone in touch.
Tere--Sure hope DH feels better soon. Sounds like he has a lot going on.
Meg--Keeping you in prayer and that all goes well tomorrow. It is good news that DH does not have cancer. I agree this weather is crazy. One day air on, next day fireplace. Sounds like to be in 90's next couple days,
I am hanging in there, I just wish I could sleep more then 3-4 hours a night. I am so tired and when I get in bed my mind just races. Today is day 10 of my 12 days most 12 hour shifts. The one girl is back today and the other comes back on Tuesday. Keeping my fingers crossed nothing happens for a while. I did find out this morning I am maxed out of my vacation time and will not get any until I use some of what I got. So plan is to take day of the next couple weeks. I earn almost 8 hours every two weeks and most I can have is 250. Doesn't take long to add up.

Happy National String Cheese Day!
I'm celebrating one of my favorite snacks.
Lanette - I think kaopectate is just for diarrhea. Sometimes I'll try a little canned pumpkin or plain yogurt if a dog is vomiting. My vet once had me give cimetidine (Tagamet) when my Irish wolfhound was taking meds that could cause nausea, but that was a very large dog so I wouldn't recommend doing it without a vet's recommendation and guidance on dosage.
Janet - Hey, mine is a massage therapist - maybe we could husband-swap! Seriously, though, yours is very talented. If he ever wanted to, I'll bet he could sell something like that cabinet for a pretty penny. That might just take all the fun out of his hobby, though... that's what my uncle always said about his wooden bowls.
Michele - Vince is a man after my own heart. If left to my own devices, I'd unashamedly be a crazy cat lady.
Dana - Your Dolly is a good-looking dog!
Wendy - Oh, Major is SO cute! What a beautifuul brindle coat. Happiness is an armful of sleepy puppy.
Machka - I've always loved that second verse. Especially the phrase, "My huckleberry friend."
Meg - Back in New Mexico I literally went through gallons of homemade hummingbird food. Here they're not quite so plentiful, but I do have a pretty steady stream of visitors. Never more than one or two at a time, though. One of my feeders is stuck to the window next to my desk with a suction cup, so they come right up where I can watch them as I work.
I love seeing all of your dogs and cats. When we moved back to Texas we had three huge dogs, three cats, two parrots, and a tankful of fish. Over the intervening years we're down to one dog (plus often a foster), two cats, and two parrots. Given that our place is smaller than the previous one, I expect we'll keep the population where it is. But I loved having all those animals in my life.
Strengthand peace to you who are hurting.

The Pom got loose this AM when I was trying to put a heavy garbage bag into the container. He saw his nemesis (a very large hound) and ran right at him to attack. The big dog grabbed him by the neck and flipped him to the ground. This is the second time this has happened with this dog. He's a very sweet dog but is not going to put up with the Pom who thinks he is a giant.3
-
Wendy: You ended up choosing the pup I would have picked. I'm glad that he is so sweet. I love the photos.
Alison: Your new life is beginning!!!!!! Congratulations!
Lisa & Machka: Not counting college housing I've lived in very few homes, three with my parents & three with DH. Everyone is different.
Tere: I'm sorry your DH is in pain & hope it is resolved soon. (((hugs)))
bonniepl: What do you mean by foster failed? Is that what happens when you foster a dog and fall in love so you'll never let him go?
Heather: The sunglasses are very glamorous.
Cheri & Janetr: Wow! That is a beautiful piece of furniture.
Pip: Love your kids. I assume that includes Kirby.
Machka: I would not think of moving away from there. WOW!!!
Lanette: We have wood floors throughout most of our house and tile in the laundry room and bathrooms. We're thinking about eventually replacing most of the wood with tile, likely the tile that mimics wood. We've already paid to have the wood refinished once and they need it again. My cousin has gorgeous stone floors. They put them in for the sake of their dogs as much as for the beauty of them. They have a big home, and a big budget. :ohwell:
Kay in NE GA: Everyone needs something sweet and furry to love. DH is sweet and furry, but we like to have a dog, too.
(((MEG))) I'm hoping for the best for you and DH. I hope he appreciates the miracle that you are in his life. Not many women I know would be so supportive.
Yvonne & Meg: We have a tribe of Annas Hummingbirds that have lived here year round for several years. Last winter during the snow and ice we had to rotate the feeders every few hours to keep them from freezing. The little birdies made it through the snow and ice just fine. We had no heat during that time, other than our fireplace and an electric fake fireplace in our bedroom due to the whole raccoon mess. I'm hoping for a less dramatic winter this year. I don't mind cold outside as long as we can be warm inside.
I'm going to yoga this morning and then to get my flu shot. I don't look forward to the shot, but I really want to avoid the flu.

Here's my baby boy. He is supposedly part dachshund and Australian Shepherd. He is a bit confused most of the time. And not terribly smart. My ex husband abused him (he was his dog before we rescued him), so he has strong trauma reactions to surprises and strangers. The good news is that he lets the cat be the alpha dog. My teenager was complaining about that this morning. "How come when the cat wants to eat his food, Leif lets her, but if we come near him when he's eating, he gets all grumpy and growls." Hmmm. Could be because of your dumba$$ father. I wanted to say, but I just smile, and said, "I don't know. Weird, huh?" He wasn't living with my ex and didn't see what happened. My older son told me about it later.
I'm still feeling horrible. At work, but I haven't done anything but a few squats since Friday evening. I have my running clothes here in the office and I keep thinking I'll go walk/run in the gym at lunch (it's raining here now . . for the next six months or so ) but I haven't had the energy. My boss gave me some thieves yesterday for my tea, and it did smell really good.
Meg -- I don't know what happened, but I hope tomorrow goes well for your husband. 42 months sounds like forever. My ex was an attorney and was found in contempt of court one time and had to stay 24 hours in jail. I was completely freaking out about it. You seem remarkably calm.
I love Major. His coat is beautiful.
Meeting in 10 minutes. It seems like that's how I spend most of my time now. Preparing for and attending meetings.

I am trying to discourage Shep from smoking that cigar! We are all set up and Shep is very happy with his pool! DH is still jobhunting. He did file an ethics report on the incident at his previous employers. It isn't that he has to work its that he needs to work. He is a workaholic!

Major ... BIG paws! ... Beautiful dog!
Michele ... after hearing of all the wedding drama from you and my friends as well ... I'm glad I have two sons! I do not plan to get involved in any way should either of them ever marry. So I say now ....
Moving/Wanderlust ... I am a homebody. We've lived in the same house for 24 years ... 9 years before that in another house. But I'll tell you ... I'm seriously consider moving ... I am really struggling trying to keep up with this place by myself as a result of my husband's health. It's upsetting him watching me. It's upsetting me watching him get upset ... not to mention I'm just running out of steam. I keep thinking that if I could get the big problem projects done, then it would just be maintenance ... which I think I can handle ... but the big projects are not getting done.
Tere ... I had to laugh that you we're lying beside your husband waiting for him to doze off ... I used to do that with my boys!! Husbands really are big babies!
Meg ... I'll be praying for the best outcome possible for you and your husband.
Off to mow the grass near Buffalo where it is 82 degrees in September!?!

Beth more and more my DH and I are thinking, WHY? do we have a house? It's all we ever wanted, but wow, it is a lot of work. We lived in a 2 bdrm condo for 16 years and rented apts. before that, it really was easier work load, but yes, you had HOA fees etc and noise from the neighbors. Still.....we are thinking about moving to an apt. in the not too distant future, maybe 6 years from now...
Allie thinking of you as you move into your new life!

Mary ~ Looks like y'all are all set up. Love the little fenced in area and the fire pit. You and hubby look great!4

DH is loving his Easy Crustless Spinach and Feta Pie from skinnytaste.com. Any newbies who haven't tried it should give it a go. We have it fairly often, eat double portions and have a third left for the next day. I made (in the IP) a potato salad for DH and some barely cooked veggies for a cold veggie salad. Yummo!
He is a happy man.
Looking forward to seeing my friend tomorrow. I have booked the local pub where I always have the same thing - salmon with loads of veggies and a side of hollandaise so I can dip my fork into it. We can just totter down the road in our finery. I will make a start on icing the cake in the morning. Might do my roots.

Afternoon Gals,
I read through everything but oddly enough the only thing that continually pops into my mind is Janet "pimping" out her husband. lol (just kidding Janet). It made me laugh though when she said... well how much $$ are we talking about? lol
Need to run 12 miles this weekend but instead I'm headed to New Mexico to see my father-in-law. My husband tries to get out to visit him every month but Harvey interfered with those plans. Don't really want to run 12 miles at 6500 ft. elevation when I'm used to sea level so I'm going to try to get out and do it tomorrow morning first thing while it's cool. As long as I remember mosquito spray I'm good.
My husband had some skin cancer removed this morning. Small basal cell carcinoma spots. They said they got it all and he needs to come back in 3 months for a check. The hazards of being light skinned and easily sunburned.
A lot of people in Houston still dealing with Harvey. About 20,000 still in shelters and without a place to go. My problems are nothing compared to what they are dealing with.

Carol/Peach- thanks! We tried to make it like home for all of us including Shep. We are very happy here.4
-
(((Meg)))
Carol when we got a new floor in the 90's they would not take up the two floors that were already here because of the worry of asbestos. They laid the new floor on top. As long as you do not disrupt something with asbestos it is fine. It is when you start tearing things apart it becomes a problem.
Mary looks very cozy!
I had a fun Kinder class yesterday. Getting yard work done today. Tomorrow or Friday hope to volunteer in friend's class.

We have a similar thing going on in DH 's family. Horrible stress for all concerned. He is very lucky to have you.

Meg - Best of wishes to you and really hoping things go well.
Vicki - Sleep is the one thing I can not get any more either although a regular routine has helped a little and no
devices 30 min before bed and reading a book right before sleep it seems to relax me. Sounds like you need a
good vacation take some time fore yourself.
Yvonne - 10 fold peace to you
Katla - Love yoga - yuck do not like flu shots get the flu if I get one
Felicia - Hope you feel better soon. a few squats is better than none at all don't beat yourself up.
Fanncy - Hope DH gets job soon - good luck.
bwcetc - loving the warm weather
Heather - the salmon sounds amazing hope you enjoyed it and also company with your friend.
Marcelynh - wow good for you and the running I could not make it one mile for running. Yes we are so lucky too
hopefully things in Texas will improve soon.

That cracked me up because I told my husband I wanted to write, that's called "pimping" isn't it but that I didn't want to offend anyone, so wrote what I did. I did write "isn't there a name for that?" Glad somebody got it lol

Meg, meditation is a practice that helps you train your mind to focus and stay in the moment. I learned this practice from reading "10% Happier " by Dan Harris. I chose a time when my house is quiet. I sit in a comfortable chair with my back straight, hands in my lap and eyes closed. I started with 3 minutes. I use the timer on my phone. I concentrate on my breath mentally thinking "breathe in breathe out" When my mind wanders (which ithe does a lot), I just return to noticing my breath. Each day or so I increase the time by 5 seconds. I do the same thing lying in bed to go to sleep4

I love the song Moon River. Weird that they play it in Japan! Major was really good last night. Fell asleep in the laundry room with Molly the chihuahua and we never heard another peep out of him all night. Loving seeing everybody's Furr families. Dogs are such great motivators to go for long walks and get lots of daily exercise no matter the weather (within reason!) Hubby didn't get too mad when he spotted Major playing outside this morning. He has learned over the years to expect the odd furry surprise. LOL. Give him a week and he'll start pretending that Major was all his idea.
We have a business here in town that's called Hire a Hubby. They do husband jobs, fix things, build fences, clean gutters etc. Love it!
