I was always turning to wine to deal with the chronic stress in my life, and these last couple of months has helped me to focus on being healthier and not turn to wine or self-medication as I call it. I'm ALWAYS going to have a lot of ongoing stress, but staying away from the wine is helping me to focus on my MFP goals, get more sleep at night, and live a more active, productive life.
That NOMO app that i am using says that I have saved $368.04 now and 137.95 hours in the 64 days without wine....I believe it too as my house is cleaner Instead of sitting on the couch binge watching TV and drinking wine on the weekends, I am working out or cleaning.
I may or may not drink again moderately at some point. I would rather not drink or at the very least drink very rarely. But I'm still trying to figure that out. Why drink at all? There's nothing wrong with alcohol, but it may not be for me. Like I said, I'm still figuring that out. Right now, I'm just happy that I can focus on my weight loss goals without alcohol derailing me on the weekends. I still have cheat days and go over, but nowhere near what I was when I was having wine and eating crap on the weekends.
I have my birthday coming up in October, but these threads have helped me immensely as well to stay on track, and it helps to know that there are other people out there who struggle with these decisions/demons as well.
So these threads may have helped you, but you all helped yourselves, and you all helped each other, and you helped me as well.

So here's something I've just noticed...an insight to myself anyway... One of my means to unwind after work is to sit on the porch with a beer before I go in to start dinner (I work from home, this is my only means of escape). Today, instead of a beer, I grabbed a bottle of Diet Pepsi. It seems to be doing the trick. Maybe, for me anyway, a bottle is a bottle as long as I'm getting my quiet time, and I can ween myself off the weekday beer with it. Fingers crossed. I've promised myself a beer day when I've dropped 10 pounds. Not sure how long it will take, but not drinking is sure to get me there more quickly.8

Checking in after a couple days off the thread. I'm still in good shape. Alcohol free and been to the gym everyday since the 19th when I was really able let the challenge take hold. I'm in it for 30day++. This weekend is going to be a challenge. I'm going to the ND/Miami game. Got invited by a good friend of mine just last night. My class is having a big tailgater. Going to have to pull out all my tools to get through this one.3

I have no wine or beer that I like in the house at the moment. The depression I have been feeling on and off for the past 4 years is finally lifting which will definitely make a difference. I have gotten myself back into a steady exercise routine as well. So far so good!!5

I've gone 3 weeks now and haven't noticed any weight loss. Think it would take more time? Plan on quitting for good. Not eating anymore than usual either. Maybe inflamation?1

It took a few weeks for me to start losing when I gave up the wine. Are you drinking water? Are you eating within your calories? Are you eating too much? Too little? Are you working out and changing things up? Your body is healing itself and sometimes these things take time. I plateaued from mid-May to mid-August, and I stopped drinking wine on July 23. The weight didn't come on overnight, and it doesn't go off overnight either. Unfortunately!

So I didn't actually get a drink at my anniversary dinner after all. I just wasn't interested in anything. I think the desire is mostly gone.
This means I'll finish out the month with only one drink! Not bad. Looking forward to Sober October. (It rhymes!)3 -

I plan on finishing September out with zero. This will be two months in a row for me. I have done a month of abstinence here or there before, but it's been several years since I have done two months in a row! I plan on abstaining for most of October as well. I may have a drink or two (birthday coming up) but we'll see. I'm kind of liking NOT drinking3 -

Next month is going to be a LOT better, mainly because I only have 2 social events planned rather than 4-6 like this past month. Honestly, the only personal I'm sabotaging is myself because when I touch alcohol my weight just bounces all over the place, so not worth it.5

Checking in. I'm glad to hear of everyone's successes! I've been less successful but I'm still here & am drinking less than I have in years7

I "was" a daily, sometimes heavy, drinker until Jan 15th of this year. Always a few, or 3 or 4, at least every evening after work and many more on weekends. Since I have quit drinking I realized that I just don't eat enough and struggle to get in my calories some days. My weight has melted off me at a surprising rate since I quit drinking. I do notice that if I do have a drink that I don't lose much, or any weight, that week.
Upon some investigation and speaking to my doctor about it he did confirm a suspicion that I learned. . . women don't metabolize alcohol as well or efficiently as men. Our bodies work much harder to process it and while our liver is busy coping with the alcohol it just isn't as efficient to process our fats and carbs as well, hence why when I have even one or two drinks I don't see any weight loss that week.
This may not be the case with everyone since we are all so different but it is a very obvious reality for me. As a result the "occasional" drink I would have is not happening anymore as it just ends up making me feel like I sabotaged my entire week with that one choice. It just isn't worth it.
I don't want to be that fat drunken party girl, she didn't like herself as much and used the alcohol to numb the pain. I am happy to turn down alcohol now as I feel so much better about everything in the skin im in now. I will never go back to what I once was.6 -

Does it make anyone else mad or jealous maybe bitter that your significant other drinks or eats whatever they want because they say they care how they look or feel but they don't do anything about it... my husband is a fairly slim guy but we are getting up in age he is getting a belly but he also drink two or three beers a night any flavor he won and here I am wishing I could eat what I want and wouldn't mind drinking every night but I do it for my health and fitness in because we have kids.. anyways I just kind of pisses me off like where is my vice!5

I relate 100%. My husband drinks a few every night and is still slim; I'm sure he's dependent on it. And it's hard to accomplish staying away from something that's in your face every day!5 -

For those of you who are following this thread, thinking about making a change, but not quite ready yet...CONGRATULATIONS! Being aware or thinking about making a change is a huge step.
These threads aren't about condemning anyone's drinking or part of any program.
What we all have in common here on MFP is we are trying to make positive changes in our lives. We are all trying to be in a healthier place.
Cutting back/reducing/moderating or cutting out alcohol completely is a personal decision, but it's a tough one. So glad you were all here to support one another. I know you all kept me on track this month!

Drank twice in September both planned and both times were not worth it. Last one being last night. And said stupid crap that I hope no one remembers or takes with a grain of salt. Slept like crap, woke up with a racing heart. Came home ate terribly, has set me back a week of pounds even if it's water weight.done ✅ over it ✅Glad to be hopping over to October thread with no plans of drinking for October!3
