morning had my blood drawn to see how my platelette count is doing, I tend to have a high count and that could be why I'm bruising so much. the bruises on my legs look awful but the brusing on my torso is what got the docs attention. We'll see what's what, I will be sent on an expedition with hematologists no doubt. Also, no more Aleve for me, even though the tendonitis is improved, it is not 100% pain free.
Work is cranking along, and packing up my breakfast and lunch does wonders for maintenance. I have truly gotten into that habit as well as the habit of walking past the carb heavy snack table that sometimes appears for no good reason at work. Still working on that night time eating habit, like many of you. Strategy that works pretty well is to make sure my morning and afternoon food has plenty of protein. Also, the rule is no eating on the couch! No eating on the couch! If i want to eat at night, I have to sit in the kitchen and eat something, no eating with the television, it is a horrible companion with food for me. So hopefully, armed with this strategy, I can maintain and maybe lose just a few more pounds for my family weekend Oct 21 (nephew's bar mitzvah and youngest sister's 45 b-day celebration in Phila) We're going to make a getaway for the two of us.
Good day everyone NYKAREN4 -

Tuesday - Evening
My husband picked me up at work and we cycled up the Cycleway and back, then had dinner at Fish Frenzy, our favourite fish and chips place. Yummy!
It was another lovely evening out there.

@ryenday, please don't leave! We love and value your input.
Yesterday was a tough day. The violence in Vegas stirred up strong feelings regardless of our political leanings. I think we tend to stray into controversial territory whenever something like this happens. It is our human nature to speak from our hearts.
We are all on this weight loss journey together. Even in that we can't all agree as to the best approach, bless our hearts! That's what makes this such an interesting place to hang out.

Sunny Welcome! You will fit right in. Love the photos. Just start posting. We are pretty chatty, just jump in.
Rye I'm going to pick on Mary a little bit to make a point and to try to convince you to stay. Mary has conservative beliefs and definite opinions about politics. Some of her beliefs about "right and wrong" differ significantly from my beliefs. Our ideas about religion are not in sync. Our ideas about politics are not in sync. Our ideas about women's rights are not in sync.
Nonetheless, Mary has been an inspiration to me because of her integrity, compassion, and honesty. She is a role model concerning exercise and food plan, and has taken a leadership role on other threads with challenges. I admire her. I don't agree with her about some things, but I do admire her and am quite fond of her.
Rye - you are brilliant and funny. I happen to agree with everything on the sign you posted, but it wouldn't matter to me if I didn't. Your contribution to this thread in the short time you have been here has been fantastic, and I would really miss you if you left.
In general, we try to avoid religion and politics, but it's impossible to avoid those topics totally. When those topics do crop up, I get to know people a lot better by reading their replies.
Hope you don't leave. You make an important contribution to this thread.

Do you mean, how did I set them up as links?
If so ...
I select and copy the link to the page I want to link to:
https://www.flickr.com/photos/machka-bb/albums/72157685796549001
Without pasting it anywhere yet ...
I click the little chain-link icon in the bar above the message box (looks like two links to a chain). A dialogue box pops up and I paste the link I copied (the one above, for example), into that dialogue box, and click OK.
It gives me this:
{url ="https://www.flickr.com/photos/machka-bb/albums/72157685796549001"}
https://flickr.com/photos/machka-bb/albums/72157685796549001 {/url}
(only the curly brackets are square brackets)
I go back to the photo album, and select the photo I want, and in the bottom, right corner there's a downward pointing arrow. I click that and choose "View All Sizes". It takes me to a page where I can select the size of photo I want to post. I choose one, then right click on the photo and select "Copy Image Address".
Without pasting anywhere yet ...
I return to this post and highlight (select) the bit between the start and end tags. That bit may still be highlighted for you.
{url="https://www.flickr.com/photos/machka-bb/albums/72157685796549001"}
https://flickr.com/photos/machka-bb/albums/72157685796549001 {/url}
(again, the curly brackets are square brackets)
Then I look at the bar above this message box, and choose the "Attach image" button. A dialogue box pops up and I right click and paste the image address I copied ... and there it is.
{url="https://www.flickr.com/photos/machka-bb/albums/72157685796549001"}{img}https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4480/36801648553_0e9eed41f9.jpg{/img}
{/url}
When you post, the photo will show.
The code will automatically put in the square brackets, but to show you the code, I needed to change them to curly brackets.
And after you've done this several times, it becomes really quick.
Oh yes ... I'm using Flickr as my photo program which is quite easy to use for things like this.

Machka glorious flowers. Just what I needed. I shared my bouquet on Facebook yesterday just for the beauty of it. Needed right now. I clicked on one of the flowers and it did just what you said. I saw more of your pictures. Thank you!
I remember watching this touching movie about a German soldier in WWII. John Gavin was the star. His wife was left behind in the ruins of city where she lived. She had a small plant she tended as a way to maintain some beauty in the chaos surrounding her. I don't remember the name of the movie, but it was one on the best anti-war movies I have seen.

Hello, Barbara! Your posting are great! I love this app, it's helped me journal all my food. I reached & exceeded my weight loss goal needed to be cleared for hip replacement on this Friday! I feel great & will continue my dieting & increase my exercise post-operatively. Prior to gastric-bypass surgery in 2008, I weighed 395 lbs. I'm now down to 224.4 lbs. My ultimate goal weight is 175 lbs! That was my high school graduation weight. My height is 5' 6". Supposedly my weight should be 140 lbs (UGH)! NO, at that weight I would look like death! I'm "curvy", look great & feel FABULOUS now! I want to go back to 175 lbs. so I can wear heels & dance again!2

Please bear with me for a moment.
When I was four years old, I attended a neighborhood girl’s birthday party. Deirdre, that was her name.
There came a time in Dierdre's party where her mother asked all of us little girls what we wanted to play next. We all voted for one game (pin the tail on the donkey) but the birthday girl didn’t want that so we did whatever it was Dierdre had chosen.
I started to pout. My mother who was helping Deirdre’s mom saw this and pulled me aside. “Rye, if you make a fuss, I’ll be taking you home. You are a guest here and no matter what the polite thing to do is be gracious and do what your host wants.“
I turned five the next month, and over my objections (I had never actually liked Deirdre) Deirdre was invited to my party. When game time came my mom asked all the little girls what they wanted to play. I remember quickly yelling pin the tail on the donkey to wide agreement. But Deirdre objected (actually she started stomping her foot and bawling and now I remember why I didn’t like her much) - so we played whatever game it was that she chose. I started to show a pout and my mother once again took me aside.
“Rye, you are the hostess and you must graciously do as your guests choose. If you are going to act out, you will be sent to your room.” I tried to defend by saying that most of my guests wanted to do what I wanted, I tried to point out the illogic of always having to do what the host wanted (when I was a guest) and always having to do what the guest wanted ( when I was the host) but momma meant business.
I still struggle with these seeming contradictory strictures, but have late in life summed them up to:
In social situations, if something unsettles or disturbs you keep quiet, smile and be gracious.
There is a toll, a not insignificant downside to adherence to that philosophy that I must pay. When faced with difficulties in social situations (often when it feels as if the duties of host combined with the duties of guest weigh too heavily for me to perform gracefully) - my usual response is to retire, graciously I hope, to my room as it were.
(But I never in my life did get a chance to play pin the tail on the donkey.)
I am probably far too proud, stubborn, and hold myself accountable to standards that are humanly impossible to meet. (And I am beginning to suspect I’m a tad on the long winded side too, lol). But these are MY failings and struggles and I do not wish to impose or disturb this valuable community with these personal issues.
TLDR: I earnestly do not wish to cause strife in this valuable community. So let me sit quietly in the corner for a while and mostly observe.
Cin Cin a tutti!
(rough translation of Italian toast: ‘Health to y’all’)

Rye! I will play pin the tail on the donkey with you anytime!

NYKaren: I hope that the doctor is able to get to the bottom of the bruising you are experiencing and has a good treatment available. :flowerforyou:
bjrobinson1950: Welcome to a great group. I let MFP set my weight goal in the beginning, but I ended up feeling better a couple of pounds lower than their goal for me because I have bursitis in my left knee from an over use injury. Getting the extra couple of pounds off makes a big difference in how it feels and functions for me. It is the difference between chronic low pain and no pain. You will know when you are feeling your best, and that is where to shift to maintenance. At this point I'm here to maintain my optimum weight. For me, it isn't something I can fix and forget, because when I forget the weight sneaks right back up and my knee hurts. :grumble:
This is garbage day in my neighborhood. I just went out to retreive my cans. The recycle can is fine, but the garbage can has two big cracks in it. We need a new one. Today DH ha an MRI and we need to get going. The place where he goes is quite a distance from here.

Today is Virus Appreciation Day!
I'll have to work on that one...
Matchka - Your tulip photos are glorious! Reminds me of my mom... she always came home from vacation with flower photos. You'll definitely have some lovely wallpaper images!
Rye - I always value what you have to say.
Wishing you all a lovely day, appreciating viruses from afar.

Hi, everyone. I'd like to join your group for some motivational support. I'm losing my lifelong battle with weight. I've never weighed more. Lupus and Fibromyalgia have made it extremely difficult to consistently exercise. Menopause is my enemy, along with all of the medication I must take. So, needless to say, I need some motivational support in order to meet my goals on a daily basis. I've found the only eating plan that seems to work is 1200 calories per day along with 50 grams or less carbs. If I follow this, I lose about a pound a week. Sugar cravings are my biggest obstacle, along with after dinner snacking. That's my weight loss story in a nutshell.
Enough, negativity! On a positive note, I'm here and ready to make a change. I retired in April. I have a dear husband and teenage daughter, along with a miniature bull terrier, two guinea pigs, and a horse we lease for my daughter. I'm an aspiring historical romance author and I adore sewing, especially period costumes.

Oooouuuufff! Knackered.
Good day though, but I forgot to retrieve my phone from recharging in the living room, so no pics. DH has a couple, but they are on the camera so will have to wait till we get home.
I was really worried about finding a parking spot when we got back, but we found one right outside the apartment. Bit of a squeeze, but we made it!
First we went to Devil's D-y-k-e, which is a very rare dry, glacial valley with a terminal moraine. The legend is the Devil tried to cut a slice through the South Downs to let the sea in and drown the church bells in the Weald of Sussex. Something disturbed him when he was nearly finished and he threw the last shovel full down and leapt away in fright. It really does look as if someone has dug a great long slice out of the hills and then it just stops. It was the furthest extent of the ice sheet in the UK , 12,000 or so years ago. Weird to think of all that grinding ice over the green and pleasant land.
We walked around it and along the valley, then tried to climb up a steep path on the other side. Hmmmmmmmm. It was muddy and slippery and dark in the trees and I fell over and sat in the mud. Boo! Got back to the car and had to wipe everything off. Sat on some plastic we had in the trunk.
Then we drove through the beautiful lanes and found an old pub. Had a delicious rare beef roll with salad and horseradish. DH had french fries. I am pleased to report I only ate half the roll, although it was delicious.
Then we tried to find Cissbury Ring, an old Iron Age fortified village on the top of a hill. It's huge, the biggest one in Sussex. After many false turns, we found it! Very impressive fortifications, with at least two lines of defence. It would have had wooden walls with ditches in between. Now just big rings in the grass.
Then home. I forgot to take my top up pain killers after lunch, so my knees and hips were suffering by the time we finished. I climbed and scrambled for 2 hrs 20 mins altogether. Plus I did 25 minutes exercises and strength training this morning, so I'm doing well on the burn. Tonight's walking to dinner will see me hit the 600 mark, my comfort zone.
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxx
Forgot to say, I spent my years 9-18 in the Weald of Sussex, so most places are familiar to me and I feel very at home here. It's mostly new to DH. My father's mother was very Sussex and knew all the folk tales. She wrote fairy stories based on old legends. She self published them.6 -
Heather, pleased to meet you. I adore London and really all of the UK.1

DITTO Karen from VA! Don't think I could have expressed this better.... I think the diversity in cultures, countries, race, size, goals, lifestyles, etc. make this a wonderful group. More than a hundred times I've had to consider a point of view that was different than my own. I think its made me a better person whether it changed my point of view or not.

Rye I wouldn't care to be Deirdre's friend either. I think it is sad the adults in her life let her get away with her behavior. It is hard to break the molds of the hurts we suffered as children as a result of the Deirdre's of the world. I tell my sons you are adults now and you can treat yourselves they way you wanted and want to be treated. I unfortunately was not always able to be the mom they needed.
I know your intention of the sign you shared was positive. I learned long ago what you cannot control is the audience. The audience is entitled to their reaction too. Finding the common language is not always easy. What I do know of this site we care about each other on this site. I respect that we are able to come here and speak our truths even if we do not always agree.

We on this thread have agreed on several occasions to not voice opinions on hot topics like politics and religion and we all do our best to follow that. Even so, from time to time someone will say something they think is not a hot topic and it strikes a chord of opposition from others. I hope we can continue to weather these storms and maintain our loving support and encouragement of each other. I live in a neighborhood that doesn't allow political signs in front of houses but occasionally someone parks their car in their driveway with a bumper sticker that sickens me and it reminds me of how much I am accustomed to being in a controversy-free environment. That's why I stay away from Facebook.
I slept late and woke up feeling great but the dogs got a somewhat shorter walk.

Barbie - thank you for the reminder! I agree - I have always considered this group a "safe" place free from controversy. We get bombarded politics and opinions every time we open the internet, turn on the news, or even try to have a conversation with a grumpy spouse, child, or friend. No wonder we binge at times, lol. Thank you again for making this a safe forum for these great ladies!
This morning I did my strength training in my unheated "workout room" which used to be the potting shed. It was 42 degrees in there but no problem, I wore gloves and actually increased weights a little from 8# to 10# on the second set.
I turned on the radio out there, and they were playing a medley of Tom Petty songs. . I wasn't his biggest fan but did enjoy some of his tunes. I especially liked him in the "Traveling Wilburys" group - Roy Orbison. "Handle me with Care" will be my earworm today.
I have a large chuck roast in the crockpot right now with potatoes and carrots. It will feed us for a few days and me for a week of lunches or topping for my nightly salad. DH hit it with the "meat needler" so hopefully it will be tenderized a tad.
Question - do any of you eat peanut butter as a carb alternative, especially to stop a binge? I was hungry after supper so had a spoonful of Adams natural peanut butter. It seemed to do the trick and stuck with me for a long time!
It was a little frosty at our house this morning - great sleeping weather.
Gotta run the pup to the groomer in a few minutes for a bath and spruce up.
Have a great day all!

Hi all,
MtnMom77, welcome. We are all shapes, sizes, weights and in different points of our journey. I think you will find this group very supportive and inspirational. You would not bring us down, we would bring you up! So just start posting. What do you want to be called?
Joyce, I would have given that young man help too. When I see someone ask for monetary help, I give what I can (even if it is the change in my pocket as I don’t usually carry cash). I always think, but what if they really do need the help and I didn’t do anything. As you say I will never know for sure but my mind is more peaceful knowing I did.
Margaret, I think with your last sentence you tied your story to weight loss. Also, what a lovely way to display the post cards.
Rye, I knew not everyone would like the sign, but I believe you never meant to offend anyone. That’s not you. I agree, sometimes you have to just sit back. Please stay with us and post again when you feel you can..
Lenora, sounds like that dr is off his rocker both at home and at work. Sound like Louis needs a second opinion.
Yvonne, I know what you mean. It sometimes feels like the whole world has gone crazy. My DH listens to or reads about the news whenever he is awake. He reads papers from the US, Spain, England and others I probably don’t know about. Of course he is obsessed about what is happening in PR right now with his family struggling there. So he keeps telling me all these things until I have to tell him to stop and that I can’t hear anymore. It gets too overwhelming. He is very respectful and will stop.
Machka, the botanical gardens sound wonderful and the pictures are absolutely beautiful! You are a very good photographer.Thanks for the recipe.
Katla, I’ve undone stitching before. It’s frustrating.
HeatherUS, sound like you are having a wonderful b-day and a good nights sleep. I love your story about the Devil’s D-y-k-e. It must have been a very interesting place. And I love pubs (even if I don’t drink)
NYKaren, ((HUGS)) about your bruising. I hope they find out the cause soon. Sounds like you have a wonderful eating plan that I think you will be able to stick to. Enjoy your sisters b-day celebration.
Allie, I’m glad you are going to walk the dogs when Tom isn’t there. Less stress.
Bjrobinson, your weight loss has been an inspiration to me. You must be so proud of yourself (as you should be). I know you will get to the weight you want. I don’t have a set weight. I’m just going to lose until I feel good.
Janice, Hi and welcome. Thanks for the info on yourself. Sounds like you have a plan that works for you. I can’t wait for you first book to come out. This is a good group to join if you need support both weight wise and life wise. These ladies come from around the world and post fast and furious. Don’t get discouraged is you can keep up or who is who. I’m fairly new too and am now starting to remember what stories go to who. Just jump in anytime you feel like posting.
Smudjiemfp, Welcome to the group again!
Word from my SIL is that they are holding their own in PR. Every time I eat something I think of them scrounging for food. My thoughts and prayers go out the families affected by the shooting in Las Vegas.
Back to work, Terry in VT where the trees are starting to turn colors.

Lanette I love a tbsp of peanut butter, low salt and no sugar to help curb my night time eating. Also stewed fruit when I have it made ahead of time.
So my platelette count is abnormally low I will have to see a hematologist asap. I do have a weird kind of issue with my blood, always have, so I'm not surprised. I've been fairly normal lately, in my early 20s I had some issues and the doctors had to keep me under careful watch, but I seem to have leveled off. Now, who knows, but will follow up and keep a close watch.
