Oooouuuufff! Knackered.
Good day though, but I forgot to retrieve my phone from recharging in the living room, so no pics. DH has a couple, but they are on the camera so will have to wait till we get home.
I was really worried about finding a parking spot when we got back, but we found one right outside the apartment. Bit of a squeeze, but we made it!
First we went to Devil's D-y-k-e, which is a very rare dry, glacial valley with a terminal moraine. The legend is the Devil tried to cut a slice through the South Downs to let the sea in and drown the church bells in the Weald of Sussex. Something disturbed him when he was nearly finished and he threw the last shovel full down and leapt away in fright. It really does look as if someone has dug a great long slice out of the hills and then it just stops. It was the furthest extent of the ice sheet in the UK , 12,000 or so years ago. Weird to think of all that grinding ice over the green and pleasant land.
We walked around it and along the valley, then tried to climb up a steep path on the other side. Hmmmmmmmm. It was muddy and slippery and dark in the trees and I fell over and sat in the mud. Boo! Got back to the car and had to wipe everything off. Sat on some plastic we had in the trunk.
Then we drove through the beautiful lanes and found an old pub. Had a delicious rare beef roll with salad and horseradish. DH had french fries. I am pleased to report I only ate half the roll, although it was delicious.
Then we tried to find Cissbury Ring, an old Iron Age fortified village on the top of a hill. It's huge, the biggest one in Sussex. After many false turns, we found it! Very impressive fortifications, with at least two lines of defence. It would have had wooden walls with ditches in between. Now just big rings in the grass.
Then home. I forgot to take my top up pain killers after lunch, so my knees and hips were suffering by the time we finished. I climbed and scrambled for 2 hrs 20 mins altogether. Plus I did 25 minutes exercises and strength training this morning, so I'm doing well on the burn. Tonight's walking to dinner will see me hit the 600 mark, my comfort zone.
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxx
Forgot to say, I spent my years 9-18 in the Weald of Sussex, so most places are familiar to me and I feel very at home here. It's mostly new to DH. My father's mother was very Sussex and knew all the folk tales. She wrote fairy stories based on old legends. She self published them.

Rye I'm going to pick on Mary a little bit to make a point and to try to convince you to stay. Mary has conservative beliefs and definite opinions about politics. Some of her beliefs about "right and wrong" differ significantly from my beliefs. Our ideas about religion are not in sync. Our ideas about politics are not in sync. Our ideas about women's rights are not in sync.
Nonetheless, Mary has been an inspiration to me because of her integrity, compassion, and honesty. She is a role model concerning exercise and food plan, and has taken a leadership role on other threads with challenges. I admire her. I don't agree with her about some things, but I do admire her and am quite fond of her.
Rye - you are brilliant and funny. I happen to agree with everything on the sign you posted, but it wouldn't matter to me if I didn't. Your contribution to this thread in the short time you have been here has been fantastic, and I would really miss you if you left.
In general, we try to avoid religion and politics, but it's impossible to avoid those topics totally. When those topics do crop up, I get to know people a lot better by reading their replies.
Hope you don't leave. You make an important contribution to this thread.

DITTO Karen from VA! Don't think I could have expressed this better.... I think the diversity in cultures, countries, race, size, goals, lifestyles, etc. make this a wonderful group. More than a hundred times I've had to consider a point of view that was different than my own. I think its made me a better person whether it changed my point of view or not.

Rye I wouldn't care to be Deirdre's friend either. I think it is sad the adults in her life let her get away with her behavior. It is hard to break the molds of the hurts we suffered as children as a result of the Deirdre's of the world. I tell my sons you are adults now and you can treat yourselves they way you wanted and want to be treated. I unfortunately was not always able to be the mom they needed.
I know your intention of the sign you shared was positive. I learned long ago what you cannot control is the audience. The audience is entitled to their reaction too. Finding the common language is not always easy. What I do know of this site we care about each other on this site. I respect that we are able to come here and speak our truths even if we do not always agree.Margaret

We on this thread have agreed on several occasions to not voice opinions on hot topics like politics and religion and we all do our best to follow that. Even so, from time to time someone will say something they think is not a hot topic and it strikes a chord of opposition from others. I hope we can continue to weather these storms and maintain our loving support and encouragement of each other. I live in a neighborhood that doesn't allow political signs in front of houses but occasionally someone parks their car in their driveway with a bumper sticker that sickens me and it reminds me of how much I am accustomed to being in a controversy-free environment. That's why I stay away from Facebook.
I slept late and woke up feeling great but the dogs got a somewhat shorter walk.

Barbie - thank you for the reminder! I agree - I have always considered this group a "safe" place free from controversy. We get bombarded politics and opinions every time we open the internet, turn on the news, or even try to have a conversation with a grumpy spouse, child, or friend. No wonder we binge at times, lol. Thank you again for making this a safe forum for these great ladies!
This morning I did my strength training in my unheated "workout room" which used to be the potting shed. It was 42 degrees in there but no problem, I wore gloves and actually increased weights a little from 8# to 10# on the second set.
I turned on the radio out there, and they were playing a medley of Tom Petty songs.. I wasn't his biggest fan but did enjoy some of his tunes. I especially liked him in the "Traveling Wilburys" group - Roy Orbison. "Handle me with Care" will be my earworm today.
I have a large chuck roast in the crockpot right now with potatoes and carrots. It will feed us for a few days and me for a week of lunches or topping for my nightly salad. DH hit it with the "meat needler" so hopefully it will be tenderized a tad.
Question - do any of you eat peanut butter as a carb alternative, especially to stop a binge? I was hungry after supper so had a spoonful of Adams natural peanut butter. It seemed to do the trick and stuck with me for a long time!
It was a little frosty at our house this morning - great sleeping weather.
Gotta run the pup to the groomer in a few minutes for a bath and spruce up.
Have a great day all!

Hi all,
MtnMom77, welcome. We are all shapes, sizes, weights and in different points of our journey. I think you will find this group very supportive and inspirational. You would not bring us down, we would bring you up! So just start posting. What do you want to be called?
Joyce, I would have given that young man help too. When I see someone ask for monetary help, I give what I can (even if it is the change in my pocket as I don’t usually carry cash). I always think, but what if they really do need the help and I didn’t do anything. As you say I will never know for sure but my mind is more peaceful knowing I did.
Margaret, I think with your last sentence you tied your story to weight loss. Also, what a lovely way to display the post cards.
Rye, I knew not everyone would like the sign, but I believe you never meant to offend anyone. That’s not you. I agree, sometimes you have to just sit back. Please stay with us and post again when you feel you can..
Lenora, sounds like that dr is off his rocker both at home and at work. Sound like Louis needs a second opinion.
Yvonne, I know what you mean. It sometimes feels like the whole world has gone crazy. My DH listens to or reads about the news whenever he is awake. He reads papers from the US, Spain, England and others I probably don’t know about. Of course he is obsessed about what is happening in PR right now with his family struggling there. So he keeps telling me all these things until I have to tell him to stop and that I can’t hear anymore. It gets too overwhelming. He is very respectful and will stop.
Machka, the botanical gardens sound wonderful and the pictures are absolutely beautiful! You are a very good photographer. Thanks for the recipe.
Katla, I’ve undone stitching before. It’s frustrating.
HeatherUS, sound like you are having a wonderful b-day and a good nights sleep. I love your story about the Devil’s D-y-k-e. It must have been a very interesting place. And I love pubs (even if I don’t drink)
NYKaren, ((HUGS)) about your bruising. I hope they find out the cause soon. Sounds like you have a wonderful eating plan that I think you will be able to stick to. Enjoy your sisters b-day celebration.
Allie, I’m glad you are going to walk the dogs when Tom isn’t there. Less stress.
Bjrobinson, your weight loss has been an inspiration to me. You must be so proud of yourself (as you should be). I know you will get to the weight you want. I don’t have a set weight. I’m just going to lose until I feel good.
Janice, Hi and welcome. Thanks for the info on yourself. Sounds like you have a plan that works for you. I can’t wait for you first book to come out. This is a good group to join if you need support both weight wise and life wise. These ladies come from around the world and post fast and furious. Don’t get discouraged is you can keep up or who is who. I’m fairly new too and am now starting to remember what stories go to who. Just jump in anytime you feel like posting.
Smudjiemfp, Welcome to the group again!
Word from my SIL is that they are holding their own in PR. Every time I eat something I think of them scrounging for food. My thoughts and prayers go out the families affected by the shooting in Las Vegas.
Back to work, Terry in VT where the trees are starting to turn colors.

Lanette I love a tbsp of peanut butter, low salt and no sugar to help curb my night time eating. Also stewed fruit when I have it made ahead of time.
So my platelette count is abnormally lowI will have to see a hematologist asap. I do have a weird kind of issue with my blood, always have, so I'm not surprised. I've been fairly normal lately, in my early 20s I had some issues and the doctors had to keep me under careful watch, but I seem to have leveled off. Now, who knows, but will follow up and keep a close watch.

Um..... not sure people understood that when I talked about filling the national brand container with a store brand I was talking about AT HOME, not by trying to steal or scam from the store. I would never do that. That's called theft. I just tricked my children who wanted the name brand.

who agrees with Mary in Arizona by the way
Yeah, that is what I was talking about too! I don't switch name brands to store brands AT THE STORE!!! Haha....I got scruples dontcha know!

Rye, Oh friend! (((((((((((((( tightly hugs ya!))))))))))))))))). Your childhood story touched me! Its hard when we had MISS MANNERS over our shoulder, and for me I think my Mom looked like BETTY CROCKER from the book in our kitchen. So always trying to do the right thing, but feeling like no one was speaking about what we wanted.
I lived in the country, so I had two coping mechanisms for that. First I would open my closet and pray really hard to God. I had a little alter in my closet. Hmmm kinda strange when I think about that. I was maybe 5 yrs old. Later on, in my grade school years, I would go to the barn and yell at our cows. Cows are great listeners, except they stick their tongues up their noses! I am a Gemini, so I tend to lash out. I haven't for years, maybe 3 years. Yelled at husband the last time.
But anyway, outlets are great. Safe havens to be yourself and express yourself is even better. I consider this site as a safe haven. No judgements. And even when you say something everyone disagrees with, they will tell you. Its their right to express their opinions about it. That is what discussions are made of.
I say continue, all of us to listen with our hearts and minds. That's what makes this site thread so gloriously refreshing. Sure its about learning to live a healthy lifestyle. But its also about accountability, and fellowship with women that we admire. And face it ladies, I'm your #1 fan! Hugs all round!

My Mom, Betty Crocker, or some people said she looked like Polly Bergen!

Rye - Wow, I'd hate to meet Diedre today if she was allowed to continue on those line throughout her childhood. I'll bet she's one heck of an "entitled" woman. It's probably all about her. She wouldn't be in my circle of friends.

Just read this story of Facebook from someone by the name of Seth Mays. I thought it was one to pass on to you.
I hired a plumber to help me restore an old farmhouse, and after he had just finished a rough first day on the job: a flat tire made him lose an hour of work, his electric drill quit and his ancient one ton truck refused to start.
While I drove him home, he sat in stony silence. On arriving, he invited me in to meet his family. As we walked toward the front door, he paused briefly at a small tree, touching the tips of the branches with both hands.
When opening the door he underwent an amazing transformation.. His face was wreathed in smiles and he hugged his two small children and gave his wife a kiss.
Afterward he walked me to the car. We passed the tree and my curiosity got the better of me. I asked him about what I had seen him do earlier.
'Oh, that's my trouble tree,' he replied 'I know I can't help having troubles on the job, but one thing's for sure, those troubles don't belong in the house with my wife and the children.. So I just hang them up on the tree every night when I come home and ask God to take care of them. Then in the morning I pick them up again.' 'Funny thing is,' he smiled,' when I come out in the morning to pick 'em up, there aren't nearly as many as I remember hanging up the night before.
THIS ONE IS WORTH SENDING ON.
Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we are here we might as well dance. We all need a Tree!
(I didn't create this story, but loved it when I read it and wanted to share)
Home today because just got piano tuned. Past due. Will be fun to play again.Margaret

(((Rye and Mary)))
Becca ~ Your mom does look like a Betty Crocker housewife. I know mine was! With 5 children she worked a lot outside the home, made special dresses when I had a recital or for church occasions, refinished furniture and floors, made lined drapery, decorated cakes, painted china, and taught Sunday School! I wish she and my dad had devoted more time to us children and let some of the other go by the wayside.
Keeping the grand daughter today as she must have a stomach bug. We have watched hours of "Horrid Henry". I just wish I was more like Kelly and could think of great things to do with her. We did learn to cut out snowflakes and I did print out some coloring pages for her.

I know. That made me so sad.
I was a December birthday, though, so we played pin the nose on Rudolph. Lol
Love you, Rye. That was beautifully and touchingly written.
