OH MY GOD it is based on a comic and it finished filming BEFORE the comic finished it's run, Micheal Cera's second best movie, Chris evens and a douchey action hero movie actor, cheesey video game graphics(well done also) a fantastic songlist, AND it has Mae Whitman fighting Mary Elizabeth Winstead if you are not sold get over it and watch it.

I like that movie a lot. But it may be more for gamers and guys.

@MeeseeksAndDestroy since you're a thespian, one would think you would watch more movies to prefect your art.

Then how about getting with the program? Why don't you jump on the team and come on in for the big win?

    .... I'll be watching you!

Is that the movie this man is from? I recognize him from an Army movie but I never saw the whole thing

That is not a man; that is a god.

That is Senior Drill Instructor Hartman (played by Lee Ermey) of the Marines. (the Marines are different from the Army).

This role pretty much launched his career. He had been in some small roles (Apocalypse Now) prior to Full Metal Jacket and had worked as an advisor on films of the military genre. He was hired as an advisor for this film and did such an awesome job preparing the actors for this picture that the director made a last minute switch and cast Ermey into this role. The actor originally slated to play D.I. Hartman appears in the film as a door gunner on a helicopter.

Lee Ermey is a former Marine D.I., hence his role in Full Metal Jacket is so believable....and awesome.

Full Metal Jacket was directed by Stanley Kubrick and was filmed just outside of London.

I started a retirement account today. I doubt I'll ever retire, but it's nice to know I'll have a chunk of change somewhere.

Consistency is key, and NEVER think that money is there...even when it might be desperately needed. You got this and you will thank your young self once you are older.

Awesome, like Tim said stay consistent with it especially since you're starting it while you're younger. May not seem like you're putting a lot in there but compounding interest is tits.

The ones in bold are the ones that should be watched immediately. Like, leave work and go watch them now.

Cee, ever speculate how long he was caught in that loop? Some have estimated, based on how long it would take to master the skills he developed, 37 years.

I'm kinda obsessed with Roseanne reruns. I am embarrassed to admit how many times I've watched those episodes over and over (and over ...) Though I confess I like the earlier seasons best, towards the end she was more crabby/b-tchy than funny.

The problem with movies today is that Hollywood tries to sell everything on special effects, that still don't look real anyway...

Personally for me, a good movie is all about the script... I want poetic lines, delivery, and plot twist...

The 10 Commandments - The script is poetry and the delivery of the lines is amazing...

The Magnificent Seven - Yul Brenner, Steve McQueen, Eli Wallach, no need to say more...

Forrest Gump - Story, great lines, amazing delivery

You know more often than not I would agree with you about someone like her...

But IC, Jenny just had this appeal that I can't quite put my finger on but was definitely there... One of the most appealing female roles ever... Lol

Don't hate me, remember no judging

You didn't list it but I remember once my mom forced me to watch Ben Hur and it felt like the worst four hours of my life.

And normally I love classic films. I have a whole collection of them on my own but I can just never get into that one lol

Ben Hur was great, but probably wouldn't make my top 10...

I know they're all guy movies...
So let's see, chick flix I liked hmm
I can't think of any lol...

Fried green tomatoes was a good movie, is that a chik flick?

If I'm being honest a lot of the "classics" from the 80s I just don't give a *kitten* about

had this convo with someone about horror movies the other day in fact. like there's a lot of good stuff from back then sure, but there's also a lot of garbage too. same way now imo- like there's been a lot of terrible movies, but also a ton of absolute great ones.

the "classics" aren't always that good really. its mostly just people looking back with rose tainted glasses

I consider these classics from the 80's. I think many of them stand the test of time and would still be enjoyable for generations. I am wondering if these are the movies you had in mind when thinking of classic 80's movies?

    The Goonies
    The Princess Bride
    Labyrinth
    Willow
    Legend
    The Never Ending Story
    The Dark Crystal
    ET
    Ghostbusters
    Die Hard
    Gremlins
    The Shining
    The Terminator
    Beverly Hills Cop
    Dirty Dancing
Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi
    Blade Runner
    Aliens
    Beetlejuice
    Big Trouble in Little China
    Heathers
    Coming To America
    Poltergeist
    The Karate Kid
    48 Hours
    Indiana Jones movies
    Lethal Weapon 1 and 2
    Full Metal Jacket
    Caddyshack
    Heavy Metal
    Honey I Shrunk the Kids
    Little Shop of Horrors
    The Naked Gun
    Batman (original 1989)
    Big
    Overboard
    Dead Poets Society
    Do The Right Thing
    Hellraiser
    Platoon
    Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure
    The Breakfast Club
    Back to the Future
    Star Trek II and IV
    When Harry Met Sally
    Blue Velvet
    Superman II
    Splash
    Raising Arizona
    The Little Mermaid
    Lean on Me
    Glory
    A Fish Called Wanda
    Raging Bull
    Rain Man
    Scareface
    Wall Street
    Spaceballs
    Trading Places
    Witness
    Field of Dreams
    Stand By Me
    The Color Purple
    Predator
    The Abyss
    Akira
    The Secret of NIMH
    An American Werewolf in London
    The Muppets Take Manhattan

    (to name a few)

I'm aware the ones I listed are mostly in the comedy, sci-fi, fantasy, or action genres. I know I left out some great romance, drama, and horror genre movies.

IMO I think the overall quality and number of good movies that came out in the 80's has not been surpassed yet by any other decade since and maybe before.

@MeeseeksAndDestroy I'm just curious which ones of those you have seen, I know you already answered for some.
