Today I ran a hilly loop near my house (whereas I had been running generally on flat tracks, asphalt, and treadmills up until this point.) It actually went really well and I recorded great time despite the uphill sections!!
Happy running!7 -

So @RunsOnEspresso - are you a Packers fan?? I have been one for many years. My college roommate's bf went on to play for the Packers and is in the hall of fame there. We have been to several games at Lambeau and to Minnesota to see them beat the Vikings as well . The Minnesota trip was with friends from ND who are huge MN fans! I have never been in a noisier stadium but it got very quiet when the Packers took the lead!0 -

I grabbed the handles on the treadmill every now and then to check my heart rate (I don't have a heart rate monitor) and I only got up to the upper 180's instead of the 190's. (Have I mentioned I'm horribly out of shape?)
You guys. This run felt so good. Like I'm still a sweaty mess, but it felt so good.

Hahahaha... Hello, my name is ... and I am addicted to running3 -
Didn't get out for a walk as planned for my active rest day but I did get a good workout at the gym. Worked with my trainer on my sore quads along with lots of arms, shoulders and core tonight! Also drove through the fire area (mostly to get around the traffic from the road closures) and was amazed at how close it came to the gym (across the street), how it devastated one of my favorite regional parks (completely gone) and how close it came to the surrounding homes but did not burn any - amazing and a testament to all of the firefighters!! The regional park was one I would go to with Hobbes to let him run wild while I ran some really brutal hills... hopefully maybe it will come back on it's own as it really wasn't 'manicured' by any means.
I am hoping for a run tomorrow and of course the melanoma (S.P.A.M.) run on Saturday. Then Sunday I head off on a business trip for the week... It is going to be tough hitting my goal this month1 -

I just wanted to mention one last time that many of us are participating (virtually) in the AIM for the CURE Melanoma Walk/Run this Saturday to increase awareness and support research for the CURE. This is in support of our own @HonuNui and in memoriam of her son, Steve, who lost his battle with melanoma earlier this year. Steve helped his mom plan the race and designed the medal (Hawaiians love S.P.A.M. Skin Protection Against Melanoma). I know it is too late to register for the race and get a t-shirt and medal but please consider running this weekend in his honor and of course wear your sunscreen! Our MFP team set out to raise $500 and have raised $1465!! If you wish to donate I believe you still can - https://walk.aimatmelanoma.org/Hilo2017/mfpmonthlyrunningchallenge14

My stomach still hates me. Guess there'll be no run for me today (except to the potty every hour), and I'll go beg the doc for drugs and load up on Gatorade. I had several wierd dreams involving stomach pain. One was running from a gang, another was my mother repeatedly hitting me in the stomach, and another was trying to poop in public in a box. Figure those out Freud.3 -
Tomorrow I have TWO races, again heh. The Stop, Drop and Run 5k Obstacle race:

I hope my anti-T-Rex training will pay off!

I probably should take today as a rest day, but probably do 8-10 miles instead.

I did interpret that differently. First not being accepted or understood by my peers and sensing hostility. Two, my mother being the same - selfish, unaccepting and unsupportive. And public humiliation when vulnerable. And my tummy hurt which made my brain try to explain it.1 -
@shanaber I am. Oh, that is cool! I have been to Lambeau once. It's always a good day when they beat the Vikings. I grew up on the boarder so knew a lot of Viking fans growing up.1

Catching a game at Lambeau is on my bucket list. I'm English and back in the 80s when Channel 4 started showing NFL games, I picked the Packers as 'my' team.
Of course I now live in New England which makes me a Pats fan by default. But I'll always be a Packers gal, and I'd choose Rogers over Brady any day of the week.3 -

10/2 = 6.5 miles and strength training
10/3 = rest day
10/4 = 8 miles
10/5 = 6.5 easy miles and strength training
10/6 = kettlebell workout
10/7 = 7 miles
10/8 = 16 miles
10/9 = 8 miles
10/10 = Vinyasa yoga class & 5.5 mile hike
10/11 = 8.5 miles

AND...its a high of 90 degrees again today (with 100% humidity this morning). I want to move somewhere the weather is eternally a high of 75 and lows in the 50s. Does such a place exist?
Edited to add: Side running note, I have been having crazy cravings for bananas lately. I am up to 2 a day with an additional dessert of the dole dark chocolate covered frozen banana slices. I used to HATE bananas until 2 months ago. Now I can't get enough of them. Lack of potassium / electrolyte thing?
88/175 (September goal miles)
Upcoming Races:
10/28 = Hill Country Halloween Half Marathon
11/23 = Georgetown Turkey Trot
12/10 = BCS Marathon
1/6/18 = River Road Run Half Marathon4 -
October Running:
10/03: 4.03 miles (1E/2MP/1E)
10/05: 3.01 mile easy run
10/07: 2.01 mile easy run
10/08: Chicago Marathon (26.54 miles)!!!!!
10/10: 2.01 mile easy run
10/11: 3.08 mile easy run
10/13: 3.03 mile easy run
Total: 43.71 miles
Notes:
Another easy run this morning, 3.03 miles at 9:19 pace. My legs feel completely back to normal, and the blister is almost all healed up (just a tiny bit raw still under my toes). If it weren't for this damn cold, I'd say I was back to 100%! My throat is no longer sore but now my nose is really runny and my head feels stuffy, but not bad enough to keep me from running! Have a "long"-ish run on deck for this weekend, in the 6-8 mile range (assuming I feel up to it), and then it is back to the grind next week to get a few solid weeks of training in before my next race! I haven't had a half marathon PR since late 2015 (1:48:59) so I'm really hoping to take a few minutes off that this year! My goal is to finish under 1:45, which I think should be quite doable if I can get in some good speed work in the next few weeks! The other exciting thing is that I registered today for a 5K in December! This is another distance that I haven't PR'd at for a while, though I'm not sure I'll be quite able to beat my record by then. Hoping I can at least get within 15-20 seconds of it though, then maybe break it early next year.
Upcoming Races:
Chicago Marathon - 10/08/17 Finished in 3:54:35!!!
Space Coast Half Marathon - 11/26/17
Jingle Bell Run 5K - 12/09/17
Excalibur 10 Miler - 03/18/186 -
Hello everyone,
There is not chance of me catching up to yall's awesome posts - close to 200 new messages! I have been mia and not running for 5 days, so today I finally got a much needed run outside to let off steam. A little behind on getting my monthly goal, but I believe I can make up for this rough week. Will try to catch up with this forum tonight.
Goal: 135 miles
Total: 51 miles
10/13 - 7.1 miles around the neighborhood lake, chilly and drizzling out.
Next race - October 22 Gettysburg Blue-Gray Half Marathon

Ok, second goal nearly achieved I will try see about the fast running on the weekend.

Total rant so feel free to pass and not read...I was supposed to run today but my yesterday was such a chaotic day that I'm exhausted. The quick version is, Skip had a meet at the University of Alabama about 2.5 hours from us. I take my car, she goes on bus, I set up the tent area waiting for bus (and other parents) go to get race packet for team and get told no we didn't pay the race fee. WHAT? Getting close to race time (like 45 mins) and no team. Go back BEG for packet, I'll give you my personal credit card to hold the number until you get the check. Woman feels bad for me and gives me packet. 30 mins....tick tick no bus Coach where are you, there soon. 20 mins before race, I'm freaking out, parent with tracker on their kids phone says Kathie they are going the wrong way WTF. Trying to give Coach directions. 12 minutes to race....run to 5 different officials begging to hold the start. Finally race director comes "where are they" pulling into lot... 7 minutes to start "they have 7 minutes" I'm almost crying. No kids No kids finally 4 minutes to start I see the JV girls coming over hill, parents throwing bibs and tracking tag on shoes, no no time to pee pee while running OMG. Girls get to start (not Skip's division) with 90 seconds to spare...no warm up, no stretching no nothing. Race director walks over gives me 5 five for getting them there. He said If they weren't there I would have strolled down to starter to "chat" for a few minutes to stall for time.
I think I might have gotten Skip upset before her race because I was crying and so upset and want to punch the face of the school Principal who wouldn't let the kids leave 5 hours early only 4 hours which caused the problem. Then punch the bus driver who said "it's not my job to know the directions" What!
Anyway..sorry for the long story. Skip ran great, not a PR but she finished 40th out of about 160 runners (some of the best in the state), she ran a 23:43 and said her calf didn't hurt at all.
short story - they will never allow Skip to attend U of A if they hear her name they will be oh no your mother is insane.

@skippygirlsmom That sounds so stressful! I am glad the team made it to the meet - just in the nick of time to run. I would have been upset too. Feel free to rant away. Tell Skip great job for performing so well under pressure!2 -
@skippygirlsmom UGH!!! Glad she made it in the end, but ugh. What a mess!0
-
Thanks @amymoreorless I felt bad I let her see me so upset, one of her team mates said to her "it broke my heart to see your mom cry she does so much for us". Such good kids.3
-
@skippygirlsmom wow, what a mess! I will not even try to understand the level of stress you've endured. Just imagining myself in your place for a minute gave me an anxiety attack. I am glad Skip ran well though, good for her! It speaks volumes when someone can perform well under crazy circumstances. Now go rest and have some wine1

going to take a rest day today. My legs felt pretty spent yesterday. Still trying to get used to a more regular routine.0 -
@skippygirlsmom sounds like a bunch of people needed to be punched, that was a total mess. Glad to hear that Skip did well though. Now, get some rest and do whatever you need to destress!0
-
@skippygirlsmom that is a legit nightmare. I have weirdness surrounding needing to be early so I 200% would've cried with you!
We are presently driving through this excitement

@skippygirlsmom Omg. That's nuts. They weren't even registered yet? Wow. One thing after another, hey? Sounds like you had to pull out all of your problem-solving skills. Congrats to Skip though; sounds like a tough field!0
