Chris, good luck on the job search! I know there will be one company that will be darn lucky to have you! Hopefully they will realize just how lucky they are and treat you accordingly!0

Terry in VT: The chance to work with Arrow is a blessing although it causes a little bit of stress because I am developing skills but no expert by any means. Working with him relieves more stress than it causes--most of the time. He can be a real brat. I'm grateful for the chance to help my friend who owns him, and stunned that she trusts me to help.
Rita: There are other medicines besides Nexium that can help with GERD. Ranitidine helps and it is an over the counter medicine with fewer side effects to worry about. TUMS can help, and so does being diligent to notice which foods tend to cause reflux episodes and cut them from your diet. This is one of those things that logging your food can help with because you can see what you ate that gave you an acid tummy and then avoid that food in the future. Even propping your upper body up with pillows for sleep can help to keep acid in the stomach where it belongs. It is something I do often. :flowerforyou:
Heather: (((HUGS))) for your DH. Remind him that unhappy things in the past were not his fault. They were the responsibility of the adults in charge way back then. Wish him happy birthday for me.
(((Chris in MA)))
Yvonne in TX: I was a Campfire Girl, too. Bluebirds in grade school and Campfire later on. It was a good experience.
I am 99% done with the baby blanket that I've been knitting for the new grand baby. His mom wants a penguin face on it, and I've ordered supplies to do that. Since the baby isn't due until December I have plenty of time to finish.

Lisa - yes, I think I would be okay on my own. "Got along without you before I met you, gonna get along without you now" Thanks for your insights.
Cheri - Wow! That is definitely your mini-me there. You both look so young.
Meg - the bracelet seems perfect for you.
Rita - I do take B12. I am on pantaprazole as needed. The B12 gives me back some energy. I don't always eat what I should. I can usually pinpoint the problem if I go back through my food logs. Now if I was only smart enough to avoid the culprit foods in the first place.
Heather - It sounds as if your hubby should have penned his own memoir. The things he has been through!
I hope his anxiety lets up.
Got caught up at work today. No newbies to train so that was a relief. National Hiring Day tomorrow so I'm sure I'll have a bunch soon. No work drama. ahhhhh.
Had to take Harmony to dance. SHE insisted on coming and bringing the dog that she babysits with her. I saw Keira briefly at dance but between the 2 of them this Grandma is well hugged.
Jason and family came for a very simple meal and seemed to enjoy it. Larry let us all know that he wasn't very pleased with the choices I had made for this quick meal. "Well, it's not the worst meal you've made" "Did you forget how to cook a good meal?" "Do we still have a bunch of cookbooks? Maybe you should use one"
Oh, bugger off. You bought yourself an IP and told me not to touch it. You could have made something in that and let me know. ( I didn't say this but wish I could have. apparently restraint is not my strong suit)
It was good to spend some time with my sweet Harmony. She passed out appetizers and helped set the table.
She shared her kindergarten day with us and made us all smile. For me a big part of family meals has always been the personal interaction. We always ate breakfast and supper at the kitchen table growing up on the farm.
Trying to meet up with my DB tomorrow to include him in the circle. I do have the day off but not sure either of us will want to step out of our houses as they are forecasting hurricane speed winds here. It is supposed to be warm though.
I posted #me too on my facebook wall. Larry is not happy about that and wanted to know what it meant. It actually didn't have anything to do with him and referred instead to my best friend's uncle and what took place in his travel trailer. Also a certain basketball coach and a boss who told me that "What the oil men want, the oil men get" (it was the last day that he was my boss). Larry, of course, assumed it was about him. He couldn't hear me though and has told me that it is embarassing that I posted that. "What will people think of you?" Excuse me. What will people think of me? And so my saga continues.
-Sharon in Lethbridge hoping not to get blown away.1 -
Sharon - The fact that he's a) trying to control your communication and b) knows exactly what #MeToo means tells me he's aware that what he's done to you is already abuse. It gave me a shiver. Hope your plans are proceeding quickly to get separated. Have someone there when you tell him, please. There's an unpredictability in all his communication that is unnerving.
Moms and daughters with pics - The next generation is just as beautiful as the first - such a lovely lot of women. Good genes, indeed!
JanetR - emailing you back as soon as I'm done. Saw your email after writer's group last night...
On the subject of GERD - I was on Nexium for years, and honestly attribute part of my weight gain (I was at 300 lbs. at my highest) to it. I had no side effects, to my knowledge--but the fact that I could finally eat anything I wanted without suffering for it was not helpful to someone who ate massive amounts of food. I did have a hiatal hernia, where part of your stomach pushes up through your diaphragm, but it was fixed when the gastric bypass was done. I take raniditine now, and have no side effects to my knowledge. TUMS are never an option for me, as they make you burp--anything that does that makes for an almost unbearable pressure in the small stomach portion.
Long day ahead, driving into Midland just at rush hour this morning to be there at a board committee meeting. Prepped everything for it yesterday, but still up at 3:30 a.m. trying to figure out if I have everything covered. Also got a call from a funder and will be meeting him Thursday in Hobbs, another two hour drive, but later, at least. And I've got time on my side, as it's at 10 a.m. Mountain Time, and I'm on Central Time. Works against me on the return, but not that big a deal. So, a busy week just got busier. Ah well, keeps me out of the kitchen!

Morning ladies
Slept well Homer did too, took him for a walk earlier and lots of new smells and things to pee on..
I am having my cup of tea and will whip up something for lunch and then take him back to Tom's .that is where he has grown up so I'm sure much more comfortable..but he did well here .will bring Chester over Saturday night..equal time..3 -
I have often wondered about Nexium also. We are on equivalents. Chalrie was first put on his because of esophageal stricture after he had it stretched. One time he went off of it and realized he was having some stricture prob, elms again. The only reason he went off of it was because he swore he would never be on a long term medicine! But after his heart problems, he isn't bothered by it. I just know I get indigestion if I don't take my pill. But. Take gazillions of medicine.
Yep ... that's how Nexium and similar keep you addicted. You try to go off ... and the indigestion and pain is terrible, so you think you need it and keep on taking it. If you're going to go off, you've got to wean off very slowly. There are websites that will help with suggestions of how to do it.
And maybe now that the evidence is stacking up against Nexium and similar, a good Dr might help as well. I would recommend consulting with one first.
(BTW - when I started getting more active and losing weight, I decided to get off as much medicine as I can. When I'm old, I will probably have to take several things ... my 96-year-old grandmother does ... but not now, not yet. )Rita: There are other medicines besides Nexium that can help with GERD. Yes! I attribute Nexium to some of my weight gain too. For me, because it threw me into such a depression and sapped all my energy, I became an eating couch potato ... and I hit my highest weight ever.1 -

Good morning! Happy Tuesday! It is a beautiful, clear morning here in West Michigan. A nice warm breeze is coming off the lake, the moon is a sliver of a Cheshire Cat smile low in the sky and the stars are bright. Orion is shining high in the sky. I had to take the trash to the curb this morning (glamorous, I know) and I ended up putting a chair in my driveway and having coffee out there. Just beautiful!
Chris - Don't let the perceived image of other's lives get to you! I get that way, sometimes, too. I have to remember, that they have all of these things, but I don't know their struggles or what they had to do to get there. Or the kind of bargains that they had to make to achieve what they have. I have read what you have written about you, your life, family, career and I know you are a strong, kind, driven person. You have much to be thankful for and lets begin with that intense drive to find a career/job position that is a better fit for you! You got out there! Put yourself out there to be seen! You are amazing! Now...get back home and get some rest!
Heather- Trauma Brain and Resilience! That is your DH! I have been amazed to find out how experiences in our youth and even en utero affects our behavior. That trauma that switches the amygdala switch into an "on" position and how things, sometimes unknown to us, can trigger that switch and send us spiraling. I am so glad that he has you to help him. Love and hugs to you both!
Sharon- Please be careful. (I can not elaborate on that sentence- it says it all)
Well, my popcorn is gone! LOL. I think, now that DH is not working, I will see if I can get him to walk with me right after dinner (while it is still light out). That should keep me from snacking after dinner.
I have started planking again. BAck to a 30 second plank ; but it helps to know that I am capable of a five minute plank. I will get there!

Terry and Cheri ~ You both have such attractive daughters and so are you!
Chris ~ Adding you to my prayer list that you find the right fitting job. I am so sorry you are in a situation that stinks! About being retired...Sometimes I really miss working as I tend to be a homebody now and have very little social contacts.
Mary ~ What beautiful scenery!
Kelly ~ I couldn’t see your video.
Cheri ~ Happy Anniversary
Cats ~ We were cat people for many years…two beautiful Siamese! Now we are dog people. We allowed our son’s cat to stay with us for about a week and he immediately started tufting up the carpet. He went back to son as a result.
(((Sharon)))
Alison ~ So glad that you are able to still enjoy the pups!
Does this sound crazy? For the last couple of weeks I feel like I am starving and just want to eat anything and everything I can get my hands on. Could it be a long forgotten trait of storing up fat for the winter? Probably just the anxiety of dealing with the ongoing flooring and again leaking frig.

Another reason this group is so terrific - this has been a terrifically informative conversation about Nexium and GERD over the past few days.
I haven't watched PBS in a while, but several years ago there was a gal who theorized acid reflux was caused by the pyloric sphincter not opening because the stomach did not have enough acid in it. So we weren't thinking the process through and taking antacids made it worse. I have read taking a little vinegar in water stimulates the stomach emptying, but there are pros and cons to introducing more acid there.
Is she right? Not sure. I do know that I often feel food just "sits there" for a long time after I eat. I also never seem to get hungry, but my GI tract is otherwise working fine.
I have a book on natural medicine written by Michael Murray and Joseph Pizzorno, who started Bastyr Naturopathic college which trains a lot of the ND's in the Pacific Northwest.
The book discusses GERD and natural treatments. They mentioned something called D-Limonene which is made from citrus peels and stimulates the stomach emptying, and the treatment calls for one - 1000 mg capsule every other day for 20 days. I am intrigued so I ordered a bottle from Amazon ($10) and will see how that works.
And if things don't get better, I'll go back to the doc and see if she has something new up her sleeve.

Hi all,
Heather, luckily my DH doesn’t have panic attacks as bad as that. I will remember the trick you use. I have had his boss call from work for me to come get him. That was a while ago and it was depression combined with the panic attacks. He is on an anti-depressant now and only has then occasionally now.
Sue, I hate any kind of inching. Call the dr and get on something. Have you tried Benadryl?
Margaret, I like the saying “Make like a tree and let the dead leaves drop.”
Michele, I’ve never been a petite and never will. My bones are too big. I found a couple of dressers at Habitat for Humanity that may work for converting them into kitchen islands. Got to get my DH to take a look as he is the one that will be converting it. Last Sat he went with a friend to pick up the old doors we wanted to convert into head and foot boards for our bed but they were gone. I was disappointed. We’ll keep looking.
Yvonne, I haven’t watched the Voice at all this season. I’ve been watching So You Think You Can Dance. I think in my next life I want to be a dancer.
Machka, windows were iced this morning. Was in the 20’s last night. Good thing we took the air conditioner out of the window last night. What fun learning a language. My DH was a Spanish teacher and I still couldn’t learn it. I have no ear for languages.
Katresss, welcome! We are a group of ladies from around the world which are supportive wherever you are in your journey. Pop in any time and post something about yourself as well as what you would like to be called.
Joyce, sorry to hear about your friend but glad he is taking care of it. ((HUGS))
Katla, I’m sure your friend feels better knowing she has someone she trusts to take care of Arrow. Can’t wait to see the finished blankets.
Sharon, what a jerk! I find ignoring people when they say things like that drives them crazy as they are looking for a reaction. Don’t react just run what you want to say through your head instead. People like that don’t change. Get out as soon as you can before something worse happens. Please have someone there when you tell him. Do you have your ducks in a row if you need to leave quickly? If not, do it now as I’m worried about you. He is so unpredictable. (((HUGS)))
Lisa, PHEW! What a busy day. Don’t forget to breath!
Allie, I think the dogs will get use to your place soon as they will feel the calmness there.
Kelley, my worst time of the day to snack is evening too. I find if I keep my hands busy with stitching, I don’t think about food. I also leave a few calories so that I can have a snack at night.
Carol, I’m a believer that we do eat more as it turns to winter. Also, stress is a big factor too.
Off to the vet after work for Tony’s regular visit. He is so good when we go. Leaves were beautiful on the way in to work today. I think we have hit peak now. Did good eating wise yesterday and so far today. Glad to be back on track.

I was 13 pages behind, but now caught up! So some of these comments are a little old ...
Allie … your condo looks great! Enjoy
Kelly … Joaquin’s expressions are priceless! I especially love the one where he’s working with the water ball. And the Joaquin without the helmet is even more adorable!
Chris … your job situation sounds horrendous. Hoping you are able to find something that recognizes your worth soon!
Lisa … Congratulations on deciding to make a move! I hope you’ll love the northeast!
Terry … I like your short hair! And the pictures of fall foliage are beautiful. Fall is my favorite time of the year as well and the recent hot weather has not thrilled me. Today, the temps are more fall-like.
Rori … great photo of you and your husband!
Sharon … Get out now …
Rye … Congratulations on the job!
Lanette … I loved the Mitford Series as well. Haven’t had time to read in ages … I need to get back to that!
Wendy … I’ve been going through your links … informative and entertaining!
Machka … thanks for the recipe links … I’ve been timid about trying some of what I consider the “exotic” spices … but think I will give these a try since you recommend them. As for the US … we seem to be in a kerfuffle about everything these days!
Rita … beautiful photo of the sunset! Your comment about the males in your life made my heart hurt for you … I’m so sorry that this has been your experience. I do think that women and men of a certain age accept behavior that today’s younger people do not. My husband has expectations that he really should not have … but I indulge him in them …I pamper him … because I know that he is a product of archaic and sexist teaching. But this is a choice I make.
It has been chaotic here ... picked up my son in Cleveland on Thursday night and stayed the night with my parents in Cleveland. At 5:00 am Friday my dad asked me to take him to the emergency room with severe abdominal pain. (He had a bowel obstruction in March that required a piece of his bowel to be removed.) Turns out he has adhesions. So after sitting in the hospital for 12 hours Friday, I left my parents at the hospital and I took son home to Buffalo to surprise his Dad for his birthday (very surprised) ... went to the wedding Saturday where I and two very much older ladies were the only ones wearing pants (but who cares the wedding was bizarre anyways) ... then drove son back to Cleveland Airport on Sunday (back to school he went) and went to be with my mom (who is frail and doesn't drive). Dad is still in the hospital, but looks like he will be discharged today (Tuesday). Older son needed an emergency appointment yesterday (which I arranged through texts and email) to address an implanted medicinal pump problem ... he's ok now after having 24 hours of painful spasms ... but is now scheduled for surgery in November. Husband's surgery for his back is Tuesday.
I'm ready for a vacation ...

Hi all, worried about ya’ll and loved ones with health challenges (Becca, did I miss a post? How is your husband?). Hoping and cheering on and sending strong vibes for you with other challenges at the moment.
Too busy for more than a minute, MiL birthday, orientation yesterday and new job today ...
Acid reflux early on this year I was awakened every night with acid reflux so bad it had me up to the kitchen to chew antacids every night. Then I just moved the mega bottle of antacids into my bedroom. When I started to take seriously losing weight the biggest changes I made were eliminating wheat and dairy and added sugar from my diet. Within 3 days the reflux disappeared. I went from suffering nightly to noticing it once or twice in 6 months, but not having to have even one antacid.
I know that is just anecdotal- and now you would describe my diet as being low on dairy, low on added sugars, and minimal gluten (I’m not celiac, nor do I fuss if I’m faced with gluten in a restaurant or friends home, I’m just pretty much gluten free at home right now) but something significant happened because it was like a light switch was thrown turning off the acid reflux incidents for me. Honestly, I suspect wheat/gluten was the culprit for me - I ate a lot of pasta/bread/crackers at the time and now I eat practically none.
Anyway, I’m off, with well wishes for all.

This doesn't sound at all crazy. It sounds like the truth. :flowerforyou:
Lanette: A couple of years ago Mary started talking about Bragg Organic Unflitered & unpasturized Apple Cider Vinegar, for dealing with acid reflux. She drank it daily in a mix with water and honey. I tried it and couldn't make myself follow through with drinking vinegar every morning, but I always use it to make salad dressing and I think it is beneficial.

Beth - Hugs galore for your efforts for the family.
We've had a lovely day, despite me waking up at 5.30 with my ÷×+=%#÷ cough. It seems to reappear now and then. No problem since and the lunch went well. I had two starters, with no bread. Mussels and one lobster ravioli in a bisque sauce which was a very small portion, but tasty. We came home for coffee and one chocolate truffle each.
I am looking forward to our light supper with the champagne I bought.
DH decided he wanted to watch a video and he chose Casablanca. It's amazing how much of it I didn't remember, though I've seen it several times.
Over lunch we discussed various places we would like to visit in the future. He would like to revisit Whitstable where we used to have a house with a sea view. I want to go to Orkney to see the Bronze Age remains and also Montreal. Those who know anything about it, would late September, early October be any good for a visit? I know the climate can be a bit severe and extreme.
Going to have to get up early tomorrow to get my exercises done before I catch the train to London.
Love to all. Much love, Heather UK xxxxxxxxx3 -

Joyce - My Maine coon has a really fluffy tail that makes it look huge, but it doesn't seem any longer than average.
Sharon - Yeah, comments like Larry's would have me asking what he's making for dinner tomorrow. Do be careful and have a plan for someplace to go if you need to get out of there in a hurry.
Machka - I'd love to get off the Prilosec, or at least have a gastroenterologist who could help figure out why I'm having problems. I don't have heartburn or any signs of ulcer, etc. Unless that happens, though, I seem to be stuck with the daily med.

Beth- Holy Smokes! That is a LOT of appointment making, running here and there, and hospital visiting and nursing going on! Thinking of you and sending you strength and hugs! (((( ))))
Heather- Your day sounds wonderful! Sorry about your cough returning, I hope it abated as you moved about through the day. I have never been to Montreal, but Michigan is close to it. I would think September would be lovely! It is usually a mild month. Early October should also be nice, but a bit colder. But I would think, you won't get severe cold weather that early in the season. Where is Orkney?
Terri- Your daughter is lovely and you are correct, she wears her age very well! (Just like her mama)
Speaking of wearing your age...what do you all think of plastic surgery or botox injections? lol I am not in the market for myself. I am of the opinion that I have worked for every gray hair and wrinkle. I love laugh lines, and eye crinkles and I have a passion for hands that look like they have lived a busy life. I was just thinking, looking at the pics of moms and daughters, and being amazed at the youthful appearances. One thing I have noticed, recently. I have noticed that the celebrity women are beginning to all look alike! Are they going to the same plastic surgeon? Are they having the same botox treatments done? It was a very "Stepford-ish" feeling I got, when I was watching that phone in fundraiser a few weeks ago for hurricane or flood victims. (I can't remember which event they were raising $$ for) It was celebrities entertaining, begging people to call in and give, manning the phones (please God, let George Clooney answer my call!). Anyway, Julia Roberts, Faith Hill, and there was another blond woman and they all looked so similarly smoothed that they could have been sisters. Very strange. To each there own; but I will be that cute (I hope) and opinionated old wrinkly lady around town.
