Call me crazy but I love to see other people happy and succeeding .
Good Evening Friends,
Cathy, I’m not sure if you need a place to eat between Charleston and Myrtle Beach because it’s only a two hour trip. When you get to Murrells Inlet, there are a ton of restaurants on the Marsh Walk. Especially good if you like seafood. I can’t believe first graders are reading books to you. Wow.
Janetr, if it’s possible,. I think your ornaments are getting prettier and prettier. You go girl!
Joyce, I’m glad to see the kitties are near each other on the sofa.
Heather, I love sparkly shirts too but sure can’t wear a kids size. Tell your DH “Happy Birthday” from me.
Felecia, who is that skinny legged girl in the picture?
Cheri, I knew that was your daughter as soon as I saw the picture. Ya’ll look great!
Chris, so sorry about your cold but glad the medicine helped. Good luck on the job search.
Mary, what a beautiful picture. I hope you are feeling better. I miss you!!! ((Hugs)))
Terry, beautiful ladies, both of you!!!
Margaret, I love your healing tree.
to all the Newbies. Come often and join in the chat. This thing works!! Please sign your post with what you want to be called. It makes it easier for us to respond to you. Also a location is great, be it specific or general. We are happy to have you join us.
I love all the kitty pics. Hearing all the stories about Nexium and weaning off of it make me feel very lucky. I took it for about 8 or 10 years but after I lost weight I just stopped taking it and had no problems. When I started getting acid reflux my doctor told me that my weight was probably one of the causes.
Remember: If you don’t like where you are, MOVE you’re not a tree.
Sending love, good thoughts and cool sunshine to all of you.
I Love you

Cosmetic surgery not for me. Before I was 20 years old I’d had 4 major surgeries. I told myself never again unless it was a life-threatening situation. Then an implant in my ear slipped and caused chronic pain and continual ear infections and I decided serious injury or illness was also a good reason for surgery. But that is it. Elective surgery that doesn’t have a direct tie to my health — not gonna even consider it. Nor could I afford it.
But women whose livelihoods depend on their looks? I think it understandable- yet an unfortunate commentary on society at large.
Have I missed an update on Becca’s husband while I’ve been so busy?
fasting This month ( after disappointing weight loss results for about 6 months using calorie restriction based on CICO) I changed my approach and I’m now on the 5:2 fasting protocol. I eat 500 calories on two days a week and approximately maintenance on the other 5 days. I’m very aware this is probably not something many people will think is sustainable, but it feels like such a relief after a miserable 6 months with little to show for the misery.
It is very early on - but I seem to be losing about 1 lb a week, and am only ‘hangry’ on the 2 ‘fast’ days a week. Both of those are vastly better than I was feeling/seeing on 1200ish calories a day, every day - even though the weekly calories are almost identical. For now at least, I’m willing to put up with the hard time on the two days for the incredible freedom I feel being able to eat ‘normally’ the other five yet still seeing over twice the weight loss than I saw the first 6th months since I got my act together.
As always, my personal anecdotal account of 5:2 fasting is not meant to say this is a better way to diet, or even that it might work at all for anyone else. My body is responding very well to it and I am feeling so much better than I was. Since fasting came up in the discussions here I thought I’d share that.

M - was there a specific reason you decided to study Spanish or just for the knowledge? Good luck to you both.
My husband was considering a job where he would be working with Spanish speaking people in Canada. And yes, we were considering a move back to Canada. So he signed up for the Spanish course.
I like learning languages, so I checked my schedule and discovered that I would have just finished my current uni course ... so I would have the time to take the Spanish course. So I signed up for the Spanish course.
And then plans changed, and it looks like we'll be staying here for a little while longer.
We debated about dropping the course, but then decided to take it anyway.
We have cycled part of the Velodyssey Route: https://www.velodyssey.com/ in 2012. Our bit then went from Bordeaux to the coast where we officially joined the route, and then up to La Rochelle. We loved it so much, that one of our bucket list items is now to cycle the John o' Groats to Land's End route through the UK, and then to get onto the Velodyssey Route which more or less runs down the west coast of France to the border of Spain. And then, who knows ... we might continue along the coast into Spain. It's one dream.
Another dream is to go to the language school in Royan to improve my/our French ... and Royan is only about 300 km from Spain, along the Velodyssey route. We'd love to be able to live in/near Royan for several months.
So, with those dreams in mind, we thought we'd go to the Spanish course and get an introduction to Spanish. This is only a basic introduction, nothing in depth, but it should take us from knowing next to no Spanish to being able to greet people and get around a little bit.
Right now, Mandarin or Hindi would be more useful to me but if all goes well, I'll get some Mandarin (not sure about the Hindi) in the next couple years.

Heather: I have heard back from GodMomKim. She lives about 50 miles south of the northern California fires, so definitely getting the smoke where she lives. But otherwise, she is fine.
Lisa: Thrilling to know you will move but still be able to keep your job. Your boss is a gem.
Beth: ((Hugs))
Meg: I second the suggestion that you and Beth need a retreat. Prayers for both of you and your families.
Cheering for the cat photos. I love 'em all!!! Mars, my Leash Loving cat (see my profile pic) is certainly not a Maine coon, but he shows off his Lion-Boy mojo with his tail straight up almost all the time. On one of our walks today a coyote crossed the trail about 30 feet in front of us. My heart started racing, but he didn't flinch. Tail up is a sign of confidence in a cat. Tail down means something is not right, and kitty may be feeling threatened or scared. Joyce, you might try finding back episodes of "My Cat From Hell" on Animal Planet. I love Jackson Galaxie, the cat behaviorist/rock guitarist who goes around the country counseling owners of cats who have behavioral issues. He explains alot about how cats communicate with their tails, ears, voices and bodies.
I'm off work this whole week, and just puttering around getting lots done with home, car and files. Tomorrow we are getting a quote for new windows. Later I have lunch and coffee dates set with girlfriends, which is a very nice departure from my usual home life.
Stay well friends. We can do this.

Just a quick check in. Had a huge squeezing headache yesterday unlike anything I’ve ever felt before. I was at a lay servant class when it hit me. Scared the dickens out of me so had them call 911. EMTs took my blood pressure and it was 165 over 128. They transported me to the ER where they gave me something for nausea, did an MRI and gave me a breathing treatment. I could feel the pain going away during the breathing treatment. They said it was a sudden onset migraine. Took a total pajama day today. I’ve taken one of my prescription pain pills and am falling asleep as I type. I’ll see you guys tomorrow.4

While working today a special ed teacher suggested to a fellow teacher rather than put the child in a time out put the object that is causing the problem in a time out. I tried it with a student who was being disrespectful to his water bottle by kicking it across the room. I said does the water bottle have to have a time out? Time to pick the bottle up and carry it to your desk. It really helped not create a power struggle.
Now I need to give those Twix I bought for Halloween that I opened a time out in a space where I will not eat them. LOL
Terry I think I am ready to start a bonfire with all the leaves that have fallen off the tree lately. LOL
Mary I too mentioned a friend that apple cider vinegar worked for her GERD.

Well ladies, I drove Monday night to the hospital, and had dinner with dear husband. He ordered me the fish dinner, and he had the corn, salad, and brownie. I had driven to the food bank on Monday as well, so I brought two slabs of sourdough bread that I had gotten there. He asked for pats of butter for that. His procedure went fine, however the doctor could only fit two stents in his bile ducts. Back in June she had removed three that were placed in, so his duct has shrunk in size abit. Which probably was the reason for the jaundice issue. This stent will stay in until January. The transplant team are going to have a pow-wow on what to do regarding him in the upcoming weeks. You can't really stent forever, its just dangerous for your innards especially your pancreas! Learning that is one sensitive organ. One option is to have surgery that cuts the connection that has all the scarring, then then use the new liver's bile duct and place that directly to the bowels. Its of course major surgery, and there is a 25% chance of pancreatic issues. Also his abdominal muscle is cut a bit, which makes recovery long and arduous.
The plan of going to Whidbey island, now has some major hiccups. If the doctor decide on stents for the next year, when we could possibly do that at the University medical hospital in Washington. If we do the surgery, then it will be in Portland at OHSU, no question. No moving. Realities are the priorities. We shall take this one day at a time. Hugs ladies!

Quick update from me. Courses going fine, all three of them. I'm holding on to my sanity and letting go of some weight.

Hi Sisters, just finished making queens all afternoon. It rained in the morning so I ended up driving into town and taking my daughter and granddaughter out for lunch, to a cafe with a tot playground which little Clara loved. Came home in time to catch the sun and get the hive work done before a strong wind arose. Spent the last half hour pruning a monster rose vine hanging over the fence near the hives that was catching and tearing my bee suit...
Heather I have often thought the same as you when I see kid's clothes with their creative fun patterns and designs and wished that adult sizes could be as Kool. Sometimes I can fit 12 and 14 yrold sizes if they are stretchy.
Machka I am also trying to learn more Spanish in the anticipation of spending my next year's or the year after holiday, walking the Camino de Santiago. I took Spanish as a child so I remember pico (little), but I have found lots of online free games where I can practice the most useful 300 words... My daughter did several "ways" on the Camino and spent 8 weeks walking during her year of teaching English in Spain. I love looking at her photo albums and imagining doing it myself. I have read lots of books about it, and I have my packing list (no more than 16 pounds) and my back pack. Just need a return ticket to Spain and at least 4 weeks off, and somebody to feed the furr family... Might be able to swing all that next year, after we "retire" from the travel agency and start full-time on the bees. July and August are our slow season for bees, so I see no reason not to take advantage and fly to Spain, and make a dream come true. Now, to persuade hubby! (And save up for tickets)
Janet I really admire your bejewelled works of art!
Oh, I do have a week's holiday planned for Nov 9. My husband won us a trip to Vanuatu at the last travel agency conference we went to. I've never been there and I am looking forward to seeing what it is like. Just hope the volcano will settle down before we go. I would like to be at my goal weight before we leave. Will have to buckle down and grit through my sugar cravings! So hard.
Terry I'm not sure I can slow down. My engine is on REV. I do turn into a pumpkin at 9pm every night but I'm bright eyed and bushytailed at 5am. LOL

One tip our instructor gave was to try DuoLingo: https://www.duolingo.com/ and she showed us a bit. I'm very seriously thinking of trying it to build up vocabulary ... and it's not just for Spanish. I see that there are a whole bunch of languages a person could learn, and I'm thinking it might be a good idea for our next trip to Europe. (Hopefully 2019).

Meg, you take care of yourself. Pajama days are the best.i went to the ER with a blinding headache one time but it was 230/130'. Demerol, amd B/P medicine did nothing for it. After CT scan they decided that it was pure stress and that was when I found the glories of sublingual Procardia. They don't prescribe that anymore and they only prescribed it for me because I was a cardiac nurse and they could trust me in taking it and watching my blood pressure after. I only used it a couple of times. I needed it that night because I was going to have to give a very bad review to an RN I was preceptimg. Yes, it was bad. Plus I had sang a solo that morning, was going to Disney World In the morning and had a patient that was going down the poop shoot and a cardiologist that wasn't believing me. That's why I hated it when we then started sending cardiac cath patients home the same day, This mans cath site had blown 2 days after he had his procedure. He was staying in the hospital to wait for surgery. He ended up having emergency surgery that night and that cardiologist never left the ICU that night. He also never apoligized.
Beth, a lot on your plate. Are you the one who has the son who is disabled and you have to hav 24/7 care for him and it sometimes doesn't work out and you are it
Sharon, I had to look up #Me2 because I had never heard of it. But I don't do Twitter as I found out that's what it is. Some of the twitter remarks I read were just awful. No one should be treated that way.
Heather, that area you want to go to is so beautiful and rich in history. Can I come along?
Allie, how is the condo letting you have your dog overnight? I a, glad they do. I groaned when you said you were going to fix dinner and then take Homer back to Tom. Tell me you didn't take the dinner to Tom.
Kelley, I read you were barking today instead of planking. I tonight this bad stuff was hitting you also.
I will have to look up a Maine Coone walk and also look into that guys videos to see if he has any insight as to some of my babies different sound. He almost made a bark yesterday when there was something outside. Both of the cats back away from the doorway real quick. But it was like a big exaggerated Woo Woo.
Christina is still having to make several trips from the Lexington Ky area to West Virginia for different things regarding her bosses mines. It is driving her Dad crazy that she is om the highway by herself. It reminded him of the number of times I drove to their college and their home which is 3 hours away. When both my grandkids were born, I had to even get into Lexington to get to the hospital and then drive back to their home to sleep. When Trinity was born. I drove to the next town to take her to kindergarten while Dad stayed with Mom in the hospital

Thank you all my dear friends for the lovely comments on my ornaments. I enjoy doing them, it fills my time and definitely keeps my hands busy and therefore mindless eating to a minimum. In the last week and a half I have really gotten back to the basics of post bariatric surgery eating and I'm seeing the scale move down and I feel so so much better. I will begin a 28 day challenge with my bariatric surgery group beginning on the 23rd. Excited about that. I WILL get back to my last weight at the surgeon's office, even though it may take longer than I would like it to take.
Love you, my friends. You keep me making good decisions and moving in the right direction.

Katiebug scary episode, glad you are taking a day and Rori happy to hear you puttering! I think that's a first, but even your puttering is getting things done with some fun thrown in!
Busy couple of days ahead which I am grateful for, will be getting some blood work run to figure out what's going on with me. But I am happy to have lots of work related issues to keep my mind occupied and keep me off of webmd, as my mother would say---don't borrow trouble!

Morning all,
Just kind of a drive-by this morning.
Rori - glad you're doing well. Diane was sorry she missed you completely at convention--and the better I know her, the more I love working with her and for her. Amazing lady. Lots of changes in the wind next week for the council, and she's pretty stressed. She's more and more confident every time I speak to her that my counterpart in El Paso and I can really get the fund development side in good shape, even with me in NC.
Katiebug - hope you wake up feeling better!
Becca - Hope they get your DH's stuff sorted out so that things are working like they're supposed to, and that it doesn't require more major surgeries. And that there's a way to sort out the move to Whidbey! I know that was going to relieve an awful lot of pressure for y'all.
JanetR - finally sent that promised email... pics coming Friday or Saturday. So glad you're finding your way to what you want to happen weightwise.
Sharon - thinking about you... hope all's well.
Trying to get my two grants due before end of month written today, as I'm traveling two days next week - and I have a feeling that the funder I'm meeting with tomorrow is going to request a resubmission on their grant. Hopefully not due 'til after I'm moved to NC, but that's not usually how it works! One good thing about insomnia is I get plenty of early morning time to write!
Weightwise - I'm staying steady, but working on more intuitive eating. May be the scariest thing I've ever done in terms of my weight.
Love y'all,
Lisa in West Texas for now.

I was making my lunch for work. and No Tom is on his own, the only one I take care of now is me
you are aloud one dog here, and since I have 2, have to take them one at a time...Homer was fine, we shall see about Chester, he is the one I worry about peeing in the house. but will get him out for lots of walks..
we have both signed a case management paper so now hopefully we can get this thing done without going to trial..
Sharon in Lethridge~ I have to tell you living on my own is so freeing.. no one to worry about but yourself, there is no fighting, no arguing the only thing I miss is coming home to the dogs being there.. but I can do what I want, go where I want. and I know I will be fine .. and you will too.. these lovely ladies helped me through and we will help you through.. when something hard was happening I would imagine you all in my pocket giving me strength..
and it worked
Every morning I get up and sit in my room with the chair and ottoman and have a cup of tea and catch up with you all.. part of my routine.. the part of my routine I have to change is to get my butt to the gym which is a few hundred feet from my door..9 -
Tooth saga:
- It broke about 18 months ago ... and was filled.
- It broke about a year ago ... and there was a root canal.
- It broke about a month ago ... and it turns out the root canal wasn't well done + the tooth is cracked in one or possibly two places (in addition to the fact that part of the tooth is missing) + the tooth and area is infected.
- Next up ... Bye-bye tooth.
My new dentist doesn't recommend keeping it.
Today was a gorgeously hot 32C day!! Today was 32C and yesterday was 29C. I love the heat!!
Sadly we return to our regularly scheduled programming on Friday ... back to 16C.
Because it was so nice, we decided to walk to the beach and then up to the dentist, and that was the busiest I've seen the beach in a long, long time. I wanted to wade in the water, but didn't have the time.
Meanwhile, this is Day 3 of my work Step Challenge, and I've walked 22.5 km in those three days + a bunch of extra steps climbing stairs, going the long way to the toilet, walking back and forth to the toilet, pacing the house, etc.
Wishing you all a wonderful day today.

Karen - love the angels dancing on the pond! What a gorgeous setting - is this taken from your yard?
Becca - golly I hope something can be worked out for you guys and Whidbey. Will keep prayers and positive thoughts coming your way. I suspect your DH is pretty much tied to his surgeon and the hospital there? Sounds like they know what they are doing, so that's a good thing.
Beth - glad the headache wasn't anything serious and so glad you had it checked out. Sending good thoughts your way!
Joyce - I am fascinated by Christina's job. How did she land it? The information you shared about the Cardiac surgery was very interesting. Glad your headache was "only" stress. Seeing what all was on your plate at the time, no wonder. Mozart is just gorgeous...when do you think he'll be considered "full grown?"
Machka - I was wondering the fate of your tooth. Have fun with the Spanish - and the duolingo link. I'll share it with DH and he can entertain himself with it. He's picked up a lot of pidgin Spanish over the years. Do you think you'd like moving back to Canada? Oh, and thanks for the info about the GI transit time test. If I end up at the gastroenterologist I bet they'll run me through it.
By the way, HEAPS of thanks to everyone who suggested the Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV)/Honey drink for acid reflux. Last night, I made myself a toddy after supper of 6 oz water, 2 tsp Bragg's ACV, 1 tsp honey. It was delish and really settled things down. I've also used Bragg's ACV in salad dressings for years so have a good stock of it.
In fact, right now, I'm considering another (my 3rd) cup of coffee - loaded with plenty of milk. Will my tummy protest? Should I chance it???? Why not!
Sending good thoughts to you getting back on your weight loss and healthy eating programs! It was a wacky summer (winter for those of you who are upside down) for many of us. For me, autumn has always signaled a time of renewal. Back in the saddle and I mean it, lol. (((HUGS)))
Glad Kim is OK and hope the weather changes improve the smoke in her area. Has anyone heard from Toni T?
Better close for now - it's getting light out, need to make sure the puppies have some time outside before the heavy rains begin. Big old wind coming this afternoon so getting everything battened down.

Good morning ladies,
Machka, glad you decided to take the course. You have a real love of learning. I think your bucket list grows and grows. I love it. Sounds like removing the tooth may be the answer. Good luck with that. Sounds like your steps challenge is going well. Congrats!
Mary, love the photos. What a beautiful part of the country. Too bad about the window.
Allie, Bingo is so much fun. Glad you putting “fun” into your new life.
Becca, your right to take it one day at a time. Hope all is well with your DH. Sending good thoughts your way. ((HUGS))
Rye, I’m with you. No cosmetic surgery for me either. I think wrinkles give a face character. Yes, all the young actresses look the same. Cookie Cutter faces. Be careful of fasting too much as your body thinks it is starving and hangs on to the weight.
Rori, glad to hear Kim is fine. When I walk the dog, our outside cat follows us the whole way.
DrKatie, wow that headache was so scary. Glad you called 911 and went to the hospital. Happy you are feeling better. If it happens again I hope you take care of yourself the same way. I love pajama days! I once had to go to the dr because I was at work and was getting a tingling feeling on one side of my face, unsteady on my feet and slurring my words. Of course my first thought was a stroke. Ended up in the emergency room, did all these tests that showed nothing, and it turned out to just be stress. Stress affects so many things. I try to be mindful of it.
Margaret, interesting suggestion for time out. I have no little ones around me but I’ll keep that in mind. Don’t even mention leaves! My lawn is covered. I’m waiting for some warm weather so I can mow the lawn (and the leaves).
Penny, happy to hear things are going in the right direction for you.
Wendy, I highly recommend going to Spain. My husband went for 9 months to get his Masters and I’ve been a couple of times. It is beautiful. Our plan was to go next April, but we will have to see as they are having some political problems with Catalonia wanting independence from Spain. I’m hoping it is cleared up by then. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/09/08/world/europe/spain-catalonia-independence.html I’ll check with my husband about July and August. I know there is one month where everyone goes on vacation and so many places close. I let you know what month. I have been trying to talk my husband into becoming a travel guide for Spain as he is a native speaker and knows many out of the way places art history. He is so personable, outgoing and a history buff and also has a degree in fine art. He would be perfect for the job. So far no luck convincing him. I’ll keep trying. Enjoy your vacation.
Joyce, glad the sleeping pills are working Watch out for dependence on them. Of course you already know that.
Janet, keep crafting. It helps me to. The picture if of a centerpiece I made a few years ago. Actually, I made a few as everyone wanted one.
Kate, what a relief that there is nothing to worry about!
Lisa, good for you. Sounds like you are on track.
Karen in VA, those pics of the pond are gorgeous. Wish I was there today. So relaxing.
Pip, dog so cute you just want to cuddle up.
Back to work.

Well, we're at the laundromat, doing what we always do on Wednesdays... Schedules are a comfort sometimes, plus husband has a Marine Gunny Sargent that he talks shop with!
Last night before we were about to go to bed, I saw a HUGE black spider in my closet! I instructed husband to get it so he swipes it forward with a tissue. I hate when he swipes spiders! Squish it!!!! I know, I should be more tolerant, but its my phobia! Mr. Spider scurried into a space between two side board's at the base of my closet, where the track of the door is. Grrr! I sprayed around that, then told my husband to sleep on my side, (which is closest to the closet door). Then as I massaged his back like he had asked me to earlier, I kept one eye on that spot I sprayed.... He mumbles, "You are massaging like a mental person"..... "Shhh, its calming me", I whisper back. I tried keeping the light on as long as possible, but then he told me to turn it off. I realize I am silly, but I still freak out.
Becca
Still looking in every corner of a room I walk into....

Becca, you are so funny. We all have our phobias. Mine are mice. With the colder weather, I'm hearing them in the walls again. You would think with 2 cats and rat terrier I wouldn't have any. At least they are just the time field mice. Don't care too much for the small snakes in the wood piles either.

This is me.
And this is Becca.
Wearing one of the "new" to me pants I bought this weekend. They are tighter than the others, so a good reminder.
Crazy busy at work. I woke up at 1:30 last night in a bit of a panic and was up for an hour. Did some cleaning and reading. The work will get done. I just keep telling myself that.
Much love.
