Did Jillian Michael's Shred it With Weights. The plan for tomorrow is to do a Pilates Intermediate DVD.
Heather - you may not have lost weight, but according to the Wii I gained despite watching what I eat and exercising. However, on the positive side, I'm down a pound from last week. I usually weigh in on Sat. morning and use that number to judge if I'm going up too much or not.
barbie - now this is interesting. I was raised by my grandparents who raised their family during the depression. They saved EVERYTHING. I remember that my grandmother used to save pieces of alunimum foil to reuse. Now Vince parents weren't raised that way. Yet, he's the one who saves EVERYTHING "just in case I ever need it" and I'm the one who is most likely to throw something away. Like we had some old lights for Christmas. I asked Vince multiple times what we used them for. He said, "we'll just throw them away". Do you think he did? No, it was me who had to finally say "why don't we just throw them in the garbage?". Yet, when I do get rid of something, in no time at all he finds something else to go in that space.
Penny - your friend's son sounds so cute. Out of the mouths of babes, as they say. I'm sorry your husband hit that signpost, but it was a blessing in disguise because it showed the guests just how helpful everyone is up there.
I'm trying to go thru my cookbooks and put into the computer the one or two that I might be looking at in a certain cookbook then donating it. More room for more books....lol
M - oh, I just want to reach into the computer and have some of those cherries, they look sooooo good. Thank goodness the cherries look so good, that trifle isn't calling my name
Vince is working on taking the ornaments off the main tree. He's so OCD, every one needs to come off in a certain order, he has to wrap it up specially. So I just let him do it if that's what makes him happy. I have a feeling that because he has to do it to the other 4 trees, he'll want help. But I'll just wait until he asks for it.
I don't know what it is, but my lower back was REALLY hurting today. Don't know what I did, I don't think I did anything differently. I took 2 Tylenol and just reclined in the chair. I'm trying to go thru some cookbooks and if I only want one or two recipes from the cookbook, I'm putting them into the computer. Then I can donate the cookbook. So while I was reclining in the chair, I went thru a couple of cookbooks. It's so sad...so many things I thought sounded so good, but I had to keep saying "Vince won't eat that"
Okie - doing a happy dance for you. Two pant sizes, that's fantastic
Evelyn - doesn't it feel good to be satisfied with a smaller amount of something? (those cookies) You sound so much like Vince & me. We've been married 39 years. I wouldn't look to replace him, either. I think in a sense I'd welcome the chance to do different things. Mind you, it's not that I'm unhappy at all being married. He has many great qualities. But he's not someone who likes to travel, he's a homebody. And I'm just the opposite. I'd love to go lots of different places

Out of step with the prevailing sentiment here as usual. I rebel against ‘positive’ resolutions. Add x food, eat more veggies, etc. These become chores in my mind and then I tend only resent them. ...Rye
Not conflicted or crazy to me, but am also out of step, and happy to be so for now. Have finally reached detente with my body, and haven't gained an ounce or lost one in more than three months. Am happy with that right this minute, though wake up from dreams on occasion of losing 40 pounds in 40 days... but right now, am so godawfully tired of beating up my poor, battered body and my even more battered soul on the subject, that I'm pleased to just take a breath. Don't talk about it a lot here, because I'm not here for the weight loss anymore, or the maintenance, I'm here because I love you people. There's a full spectrum here.

It is a chocolate cherry trifle ... sort of black forest cake-ish. I have to do something with the cherries! I eat them raw and I make cherry crumbles with them, but thought I'd try something different. Hence the pair of trifles.

Hi Gals,
Lanette – row cover – that’s probably my issue!
Well a short term big change is coming my way, I have a friend who is in college getting her masters, I meet her last year working at the camp that I work as the gardener at, we enjoy each others company. Well she’s been living with a cousin, and that situation needed to change, without a lot of notice. So in a week or so she’ll be moving into my guest room. It will probably be for just 2-3 months. Levi and I will love the company but I do work some crazy hours sometimes; although a college student keeps crazy hours too… so it will all work out. The good thing is she is a vegan, who eats very healthy so that should help me stay on the straight and narrow.
My god-daughter flew back to school in Boston today from Christmas break in CA - The flight left CA at 6:30am (local time) and after a 3 + hour unscheduled layover in Chicago (the plane had mechanical problems) she got to Boston after a 12 hour day.. She was exhausted! She likes flying but hates layovers and worries about being stuck.
One of my Christmas presents was money enough to buy waterproof work boots, I ordered them and they’ll be here on Friday. I am really excited. As someone (Barbie??) said there is just bad clothing not bad weather, but sometimes the clothing is expensive. So for the last few years I have lined my shoes with plastic bags, which sorta works… but water proof work boots will be true joy.
Smiles

Alas, I let the Virgo Moon pass without any decluttering or organizing. Instead, when Joe invited me to walk on the
beach then ride bikes nearby I said YES! More important to me to be receptive when Joe suggests activities. He was surprised I wasn't "too busy". A little wakeup call... ;}
Barbie I'm really enjoying listening to "Better Next Year" while driving. Have put a hold on "Happiness Project". After I read it, and go through the exercises mindfully, will want to revisit Better Next Year. So much of what she says about good habit success depends on self knowledge, I look forward to clarifying that ;}
Lou love your approach to NY resolution.
Penny 500 g of raw veggies whole not juiced? smh
Machka I'm with you about Penny's life . . . and the month without sun. I don't think I'd be merely weeping, think I'd be catatonic. The cherries look beautiful! A long time 'til cherry season here... ;{ Strong winds and fire near you? Oh no! The Chetco Bar Fire here that started in July put our "soon to be" neighborhood under "go now" evacuation.We had to put off our move for a week and when we got here the heat and smoke were terrible. Fire wasn't out completely until the mid-October rains. Sure hope the fire doesn't come near you and that it's quickly extinguished.
Lanette you inspire me but I won't let myself look at seed catalogs, til I've walked 20 mins for 6 out of 7 days. Motivation! Do any of your seed catalogs carry parseley root?
Karen in UK Is your line dance social evening a weekly event? Any special faves? Here the Tues pm class starts next week after a holiday break, the Thur pm class continued throughout. I'm struggling to learn "clap happy" but enjoy "chain smokin', whiskey drinkin' summbeyatch"
Okie two sizes over the holidays! VERY well done!

Ending this day feeling good about what I ate today and didn’t go over my calories. Down a little bit more so happy with that. Stayed off my feet today and ankle feels pretty good tonight. DH drove to the mailbox but my jump rings weren’t there. Could be they were delivered afterwards so I’ll drive down tomorrow. Itching to get started on my bracelet.
Love all the ideas being posted lately. One I’ll share is that I will sometimes write something on the bottom of my shoe if I want to remember it. Of course it doesn’t last too long but has helped on occasion.

Ladies, Ladies, Ladies...
You go away for a few days and come back to 15 pages. *sighs* I did, however, have a few hours, today... so I have actually caught up with all of you. I didn't take notes, mind you - but I do have a general sense of how everybody is.
I was VERY happy to discover that half of my weight gain in the last couple of months was simple body chemistry. It would seem that I was blessed in December with not one, but TWO monthly cycles. So, not only was my hankering after every bad thing partly due to hormonal influences, but the resulting "gain" was half puff.
Now that the dust has settled, my damage from two months of bad behavior was only ten pounds - and thank God for THAT.
I have managed to behave, so far this year - although I am still eating into my exercise calories, every day, at least I am not eating ALL of them, or over into my deficit, so Yay, Me. Since I don't even count my Strength Training as calories burned, I am fine, I think. And I can always tighten it up a little more as I get used to eating a bit less. I really was eating like a crazy person in December... Now I have to relearn a lot of stuff... but, at least I don't have to start over on exercise.
I had my first session with my Personal Trainer, last night... She did Lower Body, first, since I told her that is my priority. Girlfriend made my thighs BURN - which is greatness. It wasn't pain, just that hot muscle feeling that you get when you have really worked them out. Today, I can feel everything below the waist. Not pain, mind you, just that feeling of your muscles saying "Hey, I'm here..." Can't wait to see what she comes up with for arms/upper body on Wednesday.
I have a whole month to soak up whatever she can teach me, so I am excited.
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
SueB, Cathy an KJ = I am so sorry I couldn't come on Wednesday - unfortunately, that's one of the two busiest days of my week. There is no way I could have made it across the metroplex and still gotten to work.
Sharon - Hugs, Sugar. Be strong and follow your head, as much as your heart. Sometimes the best thing isn't the easiest thing.
Allie - I am so sorry about your Dad. Hugs! I think you have one lucky pup... I know you will take the best possible care of him.
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
Regarding Lunches - about half the time, I eat leftovers from the prior night's dinner - or from prior meals that I put in the freezer. The rest of the time, if I have a few minutes, I throw some cheese and salami in a zip lock bag... if I am in a hurry, I grab 3 or 4 cartons of non-fat Greek yogurt. Lunch at work is easy food control... If I don't take it with me, I don't eat it. I try to keep lunch around 500 calories or less - so I can have a nice supper when I get home.
For those that are particular about the Microwave, you can do one of those small crockpots, or make your own "boil in bag" meals by putting food in a zip-lock back and dropping it in boiling water to heat it up. Just be sure that you vac all the air out of the bag and leave a little room for expansion as the food heats up.
Well, that's all the news that's fit to print.
Hugs and Love,
Re in thankfully warmer, now, TX6 -

Barbara, the social evening was a great success. I've never been before to this one, I think they're held monthly. The hall was all decked out with American flags and most of the men were dressed like Johnny Cash. They had a county & western singer and everyone adapted certain dances to his music. I really enjoyed it. My classes are weekly and I've been going for about 20 years. My 2 faves at the moment are 'Ride Away' danced to same song by The Mavericks and 'Dance for Evermore' by Si Cranstoun. Have a look on youtube, they are so catchy.

It's nice weather today, so I might do my c25k session today instead of tomorrow. That way I can do Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday and avoid the Friday pm when my son is arriving.
Foot and back feeling a bit better.
Nothing much to report. I'm very slowly going through old family photos and some of me. I find it fascinating. Unfortunately DH doesn't share my fascination and sentimentality about family history, so I rarely discuss it with him. He just doesn’t understand that link because he was adopted. His feelings about his birth mother and any possible relations are quite negative. When he eventually found her she didn't want to meet him. His adoptive family is interesting to him and he does talk about them, but it is different.
Much love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxx

Happy Sunday!
Barbara S Oregon - I have 2 leads for parsley root seeds: territorialseed.com and rareseeds.com. Territorial is based in Oregon. Our local feed store has their seed rack and also will order seeds for people so they don't have to pay postage, the order goes in every week or 2.
Kim - hooray on getting waterproof boots! And having a temporary vegan roommate sounds intriguing.
Wendy - I kind of eat like you do with the big salads for supper. My vegan friend gave me a neat recipe for ranch dressing using a bit of nut milk, vinegar, minced/pressed garlic, onion, parsley, dill, and mayo - I use vegenaise made with grapeseed oil just because I like the taste and texture. It's close to hidden valley. Not low calorie.
Barbie - you did great on your stats despite that all day meeting. I am not a meeting person either. Fifteen minutes tops, lol. Hard for me to sit any longer it seems unless I'm taking a nap, . I'm guessing that would not have gone over well at the meeting you attended.
Re - thank you for the stop-in! Glad you are back on track and feeling the pain, lol.
Katla - hope your DD makes her peace with shipping those items via UPS or USPS. I always feel funny being responsible for the safekeeping of other people's stuff if there are other alternatives. I am so glad your dog is on the mend!! I too have had the brain freeze. Sometimes I am puzzled when someone asks me my phone number - but I know I'm not the only one. I don't call myself so why would I know that? LOL! And I've been known to put our Seattle zip code from 20+ years ago when I'm writing our address. Not my fault - it's my brain! Too much stuff in there.
Karen in NY - enjoy your mini vacation. When my DH worked out of town, I loved it - was able to do some good closet cleaning, not have to cook, etc. Now that he's home all the time it's cramping my style, lol. That was and is one of the hardest things about both of us being retired. He wants to HELP and I'd rather he go work outside for half the day. It is getting better tho- we have both had to make adjustments.
KJ - glad you made it back to the freezer in Michigan, and will be able to shovel to your heart's content. Thanks again for posting those photos of you and Cathy and Sue!! Is this the last round with the dentist for your DH? Hope he's not too grumpy.
By the way, I have started to read "Back in Control" by Dr. David Hanscom, a spinal surgeon at Swedish in Seattle. He has a method of averting pain by retraining the brain's pain signals and has many patients who have avoided surgery. One of the guidelines is to not talk about the pain (let it go?). My DH's arthritis and hips especially have been hurting him. Other than groaning a little and limping when he first gets up, he doesn't really talk about the pain. Perhaps this is his way of pushing the pain aside as well. I have some chronic pain I would like to work on so may try Hanscom's methods - it looks like it would work on migraines and other pain, not just the spine. If any of you want to check it out: www.backincontrol.com
Becca - I tried to reach through the screen and help myself to some of your trail mix. Looks great! Glad fasting is working for you!!
Machka - I have cherries in the freezer and will have to dig some out thanks to your reminder. Your trifle looks yummy. Enjoy running on the beach!
Joyce - I am praying they get your blood pressure stabilized! I have been sending you calm thoughts the past couple days but it appears they got frozen on the way and didn't make it! How are the girls doing? When you get a chance, please catch us up. Glad your kitties are keeping close company!
Rori - that cruise sounds like great fun and your outfit with pearls should be perfect. Push-ups-- Good for you! Glad you and your DH will be able to get away and soak up some sunshine for a while.
Yesterday, it hit 50 so I was able to catch up on yard work I didn't do last fall when it was so blasted hot and smoky around here. Garden looks better, did a little weeding and trimming. Felt good to breathe warm fresh air and have a little sun on my arms. Back into a rainy pattern for a few days here but no freezing temps. Midwest and east coast and southern gals... the warm-up is coming!

They are yummy!!
Part of my runs go next to the beach, but not on the beach. I tried to run on the beach once, and discovered that's a lot more difficult than I had imagined!!
Today, I found a whole network of trails I had only a vague idea about, so I ran parts of a bunch of them to make up 10 km.

Hi all. This is Evie from Buffalo Grove, IL. I'm new to this discussion board. I've decided to open up publicly here about my struggles in hope that I will feel obligated to get on a healthier path. I'm doing everything I can but inconsistently. My resolution for 2018 is to be consistently mindful of my caloric intake and exercise at least three times a week. I'm 71 and lost my husband in September of 2016 after three horrid months in the hospital. It was traumatic. We were living in south Florida. I got an extremely good offer on my house almost immediately afterwards, packed up and moved to this frozen tundra to be with my kids and grandkids. I now have my own condo here very near the family. I have been gaining weight for the last 18 months and have become sedentary. I eat to fill my time. I've joined a fast start group run by a health psychologist and am going to see her individually as well. I haven't been able to stick to any program or regimen on my own. This is so unlike the old me. But, I have the opportunity to be more active (our indoor pool and exercise room), and hopefully with the supports I'm putting in place I can get healthy again. I feel awful right now...fat, stiff, tired. Here's to a healthier and happier year for us all.14
