Looking for friends who don't eat "clean" and healthy

20th anniversary dinner last night at our favorite mexican place. Two big ol' margaritas, chips and salsa, a combo plate with enchilada, tamale, taco and rice and beans, and a molcajete cookie dessert. Basically had to roll me out of there! LOL
I was trying to find a picture of the dessert, but they didn't have one online. Here's the description, though. So freaking delicious!

I wouldn't say I eat clean all the time. I have a balance. This week hasn't been a great week! Lots of socal events, staying late at work and snacking ect means I probably won't looseanf MIGHT gain.
Overall I'm still loosing though. I eat fruit, veg and home cooked meals. I also eat out and snack on pop and sweets. Which is okay.
Personally for me I know I can take it too far, I enjoy having a treat and I know that will sometimes come with the fact that if I have too much just k and treats in the week, I won't loose. But it's more important for me to have a realistic approach to it. Whatever works for you.0 -
I don't eat clean much of the time, but I love cooking so a lot of my "unhealthy" choices are buttery sauces, home baking, and piles and piles of delicious carbs. I started this with a friend and we promised each other that the goal was sustainable change...and we know we can't sustain any change that cuts out nights of drinks and baked brie bread bowls followed up with a yummy breakfast the next day and Taco Bell for lunch. I refuse to be that person who doesn't eat the birthday cake or misses my favorite foods. I love food, in fact, I am pretty sure food loves me back. My grandmother was southern...food WAS love.
I am not even super strict with my calories daily. I don't have cheat days because that implies I am doing something wrong. I aim for 1200 to lose 2 pounds a week, but don't sweat any day that still falls within the weight loss zone. It may mean losing the weight a little slower, but that is healthier for me because in the past, losing it too fast has thrown my Crohn's disease into a flare-up. If I really feel the need to go over my max calories, I do, as long as it is a rare thing. I just try to stay closer to the 1200 goal for the next week.
I've lost 42 pounds over the past year and feel great. I still have more to lose but I am less worried about putting it back on because I am making a lifestyle change. I find it easy to get discouraged and give up if I set goals and can't reach them so I am giving myself reachable and doable goals instead. I don't have to be as good as or better than anyone but me a year or even a month ago.
I would love friends with a similar philosophy who maybe like cooking? I have my high cal recipes that I love but love to collect some actually delicious low cal options to help have balanced days.

For me, a chili cheese dog in a Mission "carb balance" tortilla is a healthy meal. I can even throw some Fritos in there as well. I also typically drink a literal gallon of diet pepsi in a day (not that I actually suggest this is a good idea. It's expensive and less than optimal, but I have no evidence that I'm in any way harmed by it either.)
The pepsi probably isn't too good for your teeth if you wanted to get really technical about it, but I generally agree...if you're getting enough nutrients and meeting your calorie or macro goals, why the *kitten* not?! I'm also extremely pro-GMO.1 -

One would think that, with all the acid, but I've honestly not had any more tooth trouble than the average adult over the last 20 years. I've chosen not to question it too hard
I've also heard claims that the phosphoric acid from excess cola consumption leaches calcium from the bones and weakens them. I did take a hard fall slipping on ice last winter and broke two ribs. Basically hit with my full weight, with my elbow between my rib cage and the ground. I'm pretty sure that's what focused the force into a smaller area and caused the ribs to break. Whether it's a sign of bone weakening or just that I'm in my late 40s and don't bounce as well, I'm not sure.0 -

Doing a maintenance break and have some extra calories. Went to Baskin-Robbins for the first time in months. You know, the Moose Tracks ice cream doesn't taste sugar-free... and does taste pretty darned good!3

My people, my people.....so glad to see others like me! I've lost 47 pounds since last summer by allowing myself to eat whatever I want as long as it generally fits within my daily goal. Life is too short. Eat the cake, and balance it with a salad. LOL5

Had a super active day yesterday so had around an extra 1400 calories to play with, most of them used on this:
My vegan friend had a menu development night for his business at the weekend so I had a leftover mushroom & mixed bean burger from him, topped with a marinated (Olive oil, fresh garlic and chilli flakes) flat mushroom with homemade Parmesan fries. I could have happily had seconds if I could be bothered to cook it all again.7 -

I got a Mirena two weeks ago, and it triggered a 2 week TOM. 2 WEEKS OF EATING ALL THE THINGS. Carbs help, but holy cow, it's easy to not stop with the carbs. That's the only dangerous thing I've noticed about this refeed schedule I'm doing. My brain doesn't like to shut off the hungries with the carbs.2 -

I'm making tri-tip on Sunday. I've yet to nail the perfect medium rare, so I'm really gonna go for it this weekend.1 -

I hate the term "clean" eating so much!
It's vague and just loaded with judgemental, disordered, and dare I say elitist/classist undertones. (Yeah, I'm going there today.) It could mean a bunch of different things to different people. If you mean whole foods, say whole foods. If you mean vegan, say vegan. Low carb, say low carb. As people in a modern, industrialized society, we have enough angst about food already, about what we should and shouldn't eat, whether we're "being good" by ordering a salad or "being naughty" by getting cheesecake, to start implying that certain people's diets are "dirty." We're going to spend so many years of our lives fretting about autolyzed yeast extract or whether carbs/eggs/sugar/saturated fats are okay today, that we'll miss out on licking the butter from life's steak plate, as a previous poster was able to do.
Rant over--I feel better now.

Doesn't matter "what" you eat. Just count the calories and record them honestly and accurately.
Careful. What you eat does matter for reasons other than weight loss (health, satiety etc.). Doesn't mean you can't have some enjoyable foods along the way and still lose weight.2 -

Careful. What you eat does matter for reasons other than weight loss (health, satiety etc.). Doesn't mean you can't have some enjoyable foods along the way and still lose weight.

We talk a lot of trash here, but I'd venture to guess most of us eat a fairly balanced diet of foods that are overall nutritious and satisfying. It's fun to contemplate eating all my daily calories in cheesecake (and I could! It wouldn't even be difficult) but I don't actually do that.
I do, however, find ways to continue eating all the foods I love in moderate portions while still meeting my overall goals2 -
