NYKAREN - I have to do micro actions all the time with my writing, even to the point of telling myself, "I know how to pick up a piece of paper". I am always reluctant and occasionally fearful. You are doing the right thing and it will soon be done and beautifully done.
I am nearing the end of my paper editing and will soon have to drag out my steam laptop again. I hate that, but, little by little it gets done. I know how to open my laptop.
Terry - Are you getting any help with your anxiety? A counsellor? A good book that addresses the problem? A podcast? My DH suffers from unnamed anxiety, but there is often an original trigger, even if it seems irrelevant. If I am anxious, or depressed, I usually know why and it is often something I am trying to avoid. I do find books very useful if you can find the right one. I have loads on my Kindle.
Might colour my roots this p m.

Janetr, Lisa, and others who have been lost weight in January - congrats! What a good way to start off the new year!
Heather - it will be interesting to see how the Saturday house viewing goes now that the pricing strategy has changed. Hoping for the best for you!!
I tried the link Rye provided for Michael Moseley. Sadly, I can't get it to play since I'm not in the UK according to my laptop. DRAT! A couple months ago I found a Silver Sneakers link on how to measure fitness with some of the tests mentioned like sit to stand, etc. Here's the link- https://www.silversneakers.com/blog/fitness-test/: I didn't try all of them but did OK on the ones I did try like sit to stand and the 5# arm curls.
Joyce - lady, take care of yourself!!! How can we get you to take your pills at the right times? ((HUGS)))
Cheryl - how heartbreaking about your horse. I often wonder why things like that happen. Hope you can find one that suits you. I do love the photo of you with your replacement horse in that field, reminds me so much of where I grew up.
Becca - cute photo, but then I think ALL of your photos are cute. You are so photogenic! Your doc sounds wonderful, hope you guys can get the bladder thing tweaked. I try to cut off all liquids at suppertime - I generally have to get up once at night. Here's something I never realized - I don't often get thirsty unless I eat a salty meal such as Chinese or Mexican food. Maybe I get enough liquid with my coffee and tea and water-containing food, but our doc told us a couple weeks ago that as we get older, our thirst mechanism doesn't work that well anymore. Hence all of the elderly people who die during heat waves! They don't realize they are dehydrated.
Sue in WA -- oh my goodness!! When it rains it pours. Your DH sounds so much like mine. I'm excited for you with the new puppy coming. I think poodle crosses are the best dogs ever and hopefully will brighten your DH's mood and get him to doing his PT. And, belated Happy Birthday!
I somehow tweaked a nerve in my back and it causes zinging pain around my ribcage on my left side from time to time. If I stand up straight it doesn't hurt. Tylenol helps and so do stretches. My DH thinks it's due to my strength training which I've been doing the same way for 8 months. I think not. I think it's time I turned the mattress!
Heard sad news yesterday - my former housecleaner's house burned down. She had to leave so quickly, didn't have a chance to grab her phone. This is a reminder to me to NOT store my computer backups in the house or at least have a duplicate elsewhere, perhaps my DH's shop.
Have a good Friday!

We went to a car show in Washington DC yesterday & I discovered my beloved VW has been discontinued. I suspect that will impact its value. It still works just fine. I am happy to see my DS, DDIL, and new baby grandson, but I'm ready to go home.5

Good morning!
My name is Rachel and I was hoping I could join you all. I turned 50 this year and I definitely have a whole different metabolism than I did when I tried to lose when when I was younger.
A little background on me: I live in Guatemala, where I work full time for the US government. I have two amazing daughters, 11 and 6, and I'm a single mom.
All my life, I've gone up and down but, unfortunately, over the years, the arc of my weight has gone up so that when I weighed myself after Christmas and a three week visit from my parents I was at an all time (except for pregnancy) high of 205. I contacted a trainer and they have given me food guidelines and come twice a week for workout sessions (mostly calisthenics). I love cardio and hate strength and flexibility training, even though I know that both of those are essential for me as I get older so it's good to have someone force me to move my body in different ways. They also insist that I photograph all my meals and send it to them by what'sapp. That's been very helpful.
I've been cheating on their food rules by not cutting out diet coke and allowing myself a little chocolate after lunch and dinner each day. So far since Sunday, I've worked out every day (usually just 30 minutes on my elliptical at home) and stayed under MFP calories every day. It's weird though because I lost 4 pounds the first two days and then have stayed the same. It seems weird to me to be under my MFP calories and not see any motion on the scale. I know I shouldn't weigh myself every day but it helps to keep me focused.
Anyway, I welcome any suggestions and look forward to getting to know all of you!
Best,
Rachel6 -
Hi all you wonderful ladies,
Machka, you know how hard it is to take pictures of jewelry and have the jewelry stand out. I’m trying to take pictures with a white background and no prop as I’ve been doing some readying on the subject and pretty much everyone says to take photos that way. Your jewelry is supposed to stand out and be the focal point. Also, they say to show the jewelry in different angles so that customers can see the whole piece. Going to cut another hole in my light box on the top and then I will have light from three sides. That should help with the shadows. Learning something new every day. I’m going to make a necklace next. I’ll try to load an example.
Heather, I do suffer from depression and have been on medication for years which helps tremendously. But, every once and a while I feel anxious. I’ve been really trying to analyze myself to try and figure out where this is coming from. I think I’ve been increasingly anxious these last few months because my birthday is coming up and I’m one year closer to retirement. Although I’m excited about retiring, I’m also scared about it. I’ve done everything I can to reassure myself that I am in a good financial place to retire in 3 years. Probably won’t get rid of all the worry until I actually retire and prove that I can do it. Also, thinking about starting a small jewelry business has me nervous as well. I know if I gather as much info as I can on both subjects will help with the anxiety. I do know that the way I’ve been eating is not going to help, but just gets me upset about one more thing. So I’m going to concentrate on the moment, gather info where I can and start concentrating on tracking and staying within calories.
Sue, a new puppy will give your DH something else to focus on. Tell him from me, I had both knees replaced at the same time, that PT is crucial. I tell everyone who is having the surgery to be faithful to their PT. Otherwise, you won’t get back a good range of motion. It’s painful but worth it in the long run.
Katla, I’m a homebody so I always look forward to going home whenever I travel.

Hi ladies! I am a 57 year old woman who would like to join up with you. I was here for a bit last year. The hard thing is keeping up with all the posts!
I am having a really hard time getting motivated to stay on track. My weight is at an all time high for me. I really want to turn that around! Sugar is my addiction!
Hi Ann, I'm brand-new to this thread, so we're kind of in the same boat, there. So many posts here already, so I won't try to respond to each personally, but I'm sending best wishes to everyone on the thread! Ann and I are also in the same boat when she says "sugar is my addiction" -- if I allow myself to have a sweet treat in the house, oftentimes I can't stop eating it until it's gone.
The first half of January this year, for me, was devoted to recovering from pneumonia. But a couple weeks ago I was able to resume my barbell training program, and resume logging my food intake on myfitnesspal. So far in two weeks I lost a pound of body weight, but according to my Tanita scale there were 2 lbs of fat lost and 1 lb of lean mass gained. I'm happy with that. I had not lifted anything heavier than 20 lbs in about 15 years, but now I can squat with 40 lbs on my back and deadlift 44 lbs (having started out by just doing the movements with only body weight and no bar, back in December). My goals for February are to continue training 3 times a week, add a couple pounds to the bar each time I train, and continue healthy eating of ~1800 calories per day. My new motto is "stronger than yesterday."
Almost forgot to add - I am Amy, in Arizona, USA, age 59.5 -

WELCOME new ladies!
Well, just after I last posted I decided to do my Day 3 Week 5 run. I haven't got time tomorrow and the weather is unpredictable, so I went for it! It went fine. 5 mins walking, 20 mins running, 5 mins walking. My knee was feeling it, but just a minor grumble, no pain. Sooooooo delighted!
So week 6 starts on Sunday.
Lanette - we now have two viewings on Saturday! :noway:
I'm waiting to hear from my cancer friend about Monday, another reason why it was better to run today. She hasn't yet told me what time she wants me. It usually means she is having a wobble. She has closed the support group we had on WhatsApp as she didn't want her illness to be the focus of our friendship with her. I have texted her and hope everything is ok. At least I now have lots of phone numbers.
I am now 53% fluent in Swedish. It's a bit like losing weight, you get a great percentage at the beginning and then it slows to a mere trickle, even when you are putting in the time. Keep on trucking!

Pip - is that one of those sunsetter awnings? OUCH on the dislocated collarbone (I guess it's dislocated?) and Kirby after his accident. You know, my foot doesn't ache much anymore and I now barely notice the twinge in my back compared to what I see in those pics you posted.
I will quit complaining! NO more whining!

Seeing if this works: Not a spoiler but a picture behind the show/hide button.
Yay! It works. I have been reluctant to post many pics because on the iPhone I have not found a way to make them anything but ginormous. I don’t want it to take too long for people to be able to scroll through the messages, so I have been not posting many. But this way it won’t slow down the load time for the page!
By the way those are my brother cats, Kidd Kirby holding Jackie Kane. They are so sweet I think my body might just produce insulin in response to them! lol

Heather, fingers crossed that you get good results on Saturday. Well done on the Swedish. With I had the ear for languages.
Rye, did you do the “show” button with your phone?
Pip, those pics are painful to look at. Glad you both mended.

The spoiler/show button come up if you put something between the spoiler tags. So the open spoiler tag is the word spoiler between the [ ]
Wow, that sounds confusing. Try this: if you quote my post you should see the exact syntax.THIS TEXT IS INSIDE THE SPOILER TAGS0 -
Terry - I don't think I have a special ear for languages - I failed my exam at school. I'm just very persistent. I just keep on trucking, day by day, little by little. Same with exercise and weight loss. Small bites add up. If you keep on keeping on eventually you get there.
I do lots of things consistently every single day -
Exercise session
C25k 3 days per week
Face exercises
Foot/arch exercises
Knee exercises
Languages
Strength training
Logging
I won't be able to do my exercises on Monday as my cancer friend has rung and she wants me up there by 10.45. I have to catch the 8.36 train.
Nor Saturday as we will be travelling to Hove to see the grandchildren for the day.
There are not many things I give up my exercise session for, but I will make an exception for those. There may be some walking I can do on those days, or I may try the Michael Moseley 5 min HI IT.

PIP - OUCH
Katla - thanks for remembering me.
Sue - please tell me where she had the vase made.
Lanette, thanks, I think my new horse is beautiful. I've always wanted a smutty buckskin and I am a sucker for a bald face with blue eyes. They only reason I'm not keeping him is that we really want to get down to 3 horses. The older we get, the more work the barn chores seem. And it's easier to find someone to care for 3 and not 5 when we go out of town. And none of the three hardly get ridden. My daughter's tennessee Walker least of all. So that's who I decided will become my main ride once Jagger is sold. And I still have my tiny girl (Kerri) who I will start riding again once I lose 20 pounds. I've put a picture of my little girl (when I was thinner) and the boy I've started to ride (Rousty from 5 years ago)

Beautiful horse pics!
Today is a dark, rainy typical coastal day. Its crazy to have to use the side lamp when its 10:30 AM! Yesterday bill paid, and we have about $140 to play with each week of this month! Pretty good in my book! Still haven't heard from any nurses on upcoming medical things. Those cost gas money, and such.
Planning on getting:
Proteins- lean turkey, cottage cheese, keibasa sausage, eggs,
Fruit- bananas, pink grapefruit
Veggies- fresh spinach, cucumbers, zucchinis, tomato,
Breads- Van's waffles, Wasa crispbread, hearty multibran bread
Dairy- brie cheese, yogurt
Sounds like I'm on a tropical island snacking huh?!!
Meanwhile, I will be chef to husband that doesn't like veggies, (twice a week he eats salad though). He is definitely more of a meat eater than I am. With the kielbasa sausage, I cut it up into 1 oz segments. I use 1-2 oz's per meal for me, mostly for flavour. I use drippings of meat products to enhance a veggie meal. So I suppose I could not be considered a vegetarian ever! When I make a hamburger for husband I save the drippings. I might mix it up with stewed tomatoes and a handful of pasta. Only a spoonful!
Well time to plan out meals, seeing what I got. Oh I have that chicken from last week when I roasted a chicken! Its all in the freezer, the broth I made I froze in my ice cube tray's. They are now in a bag in the freezer. I like adding a cube here and there to things! I need to buy a crisp apple and some celery. Then I made a chicken salad with cubed chicken ,celery, cubed apples, walnuts, and a spoonful of mayo. Yummy!
Hugs friends!

While I was out walking with Dave, the dermatologist called with a message to call them back on Monday. They close at12 on Friday. I’m assuming the biopsy they took last Thursday came back positive for cancer, because they just send a postcard if it is benign. So, looks like more Moh’s is in my future.
We have one bid for our bathrooms and another coming today. This one has one strike against them for rescheduling on Wednesday. The one we already have is pricey, but within budget (well, almost), so we will probably go with him. We like him because he does his own carpentry and plumbing. He can start on Thursday, too!
The scale is moving in the right direction, but this Moh’s thing is going to put a damper on my strength training if it is where I think it is ( upper arm). Let’s hope it is that one, though. If it is the one on my leg I can’t walk either.9 -
Hello,
I am getting so excited about the cruise. 8 days left before the flight to San Juan.
Sailing Itinerary
Date Port
11-Feb San Juan, Puerto Rico
12-Feb Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas
13-Feb Basseterre, St. Kitts
14-Feb St. John's, Antigua
15-Feb Castries, St. Lucia
16-Feb Bridgetown, Barbados
17-Feb Cruising
18-Feb San Juan, Puerto Rico
I have been organizing items for packing, getting outfits altered.
I met my goal for January, which was to fit into this dress. I ordered it from Thred Up and it was a little tight through the hips when it arrived. I haven’t worn a dress in 10 years. The last time was on the last cruise I was on.

I found this pair of sandals at Nordstrom Rack for $3.75.
