What nobody tells you about losing weight

People are gonna criticize you from not being like them anymore - they will tell you you re no fun because you pass up on the beer and fatty food - and while everyone is eating like *kitten* you are preparing your own meals and they will laugh - then at 11pm at night vie a text they will secretly ask you what your secret is and if you can write them up a workout plan and a diet
I hardly call opening a bottle of premier protein or unwrapping kirkland protein bar "preparing your own meals," but I guess it takes all kinds!9 -

I was already in this thread from way back, so I get a notification anytime someone posts something new.
Sorry for having a memory that spans >24 hours. I'll try to be better in the future if you try to be actually accurate with what you post.6 -

That was me being nice.
And thank you for qualifying your statement, imfornd. Sincerely, I do appreciate it.3 -
I think nobody told me how little your weight actually matters to your friends and acquaintances ( I mean it in a positive way). I posted a comparison photo(50lbs difference) for the first time recently and was petrified of doing it. Surprise surprise - nobody unfollowed me or stopped talking to me, cause they all knew me when I was fat and know how I looked
Long story short - getting your mind slimmer and shredding your own limiting beliefs takes longer than actual fat loss.25 -
How lithe I feel.11
-
That exercise feels like so much less work. As someone who was fairly athletic then put on a bunch of weight and has now lost 70 lbs running a mile feels so different now and I love it18
-
That once you meet a goal which seemed so far away in the beginning you need to reset your goals as you realize they were not so unrealistic and that you can do so much more than you thought when you started.30

“When your husband asks "did you workout today?" If you say "no, why?" and then the response is "you're kinda cranky today." HA!! OMG!”
So true. In my case I don’t get cranky, I feel so sluggish all day. Funny thing is that on my off days which is twice a week I don’t feel that way.13 -
Regarding people feeling like they can comment on your weight...
When I was in my early twenties, I lost about twenty-five pounds, and like four different people told me I had lost a lot of weight as if it was a major accomplishment... at that time, I had lost it without trying (I went from being sedentary all throughout high school to working in a very physical job on a farm) and I had never really felt self conscious about my body, so it felt so weird. When my best friend mentioned my weight loss, I was like, "You're like the fourth person to say that, did I used to be fat?" She laughed and assured me it was noticeable.
In another example, this past summer my boyfriend and I were hiking and we happened to meet and start talking with a mother and daughter who were hiking with the daughter's children. After a couple of minutes of chatting about kids, the mom said to me, "Oh, and are you expecting?"
I wasn't.17 -

I've had these comments as well. First thing my children do every day is look at the weather forecast, to see if I'll get my daily bike ride in. If i don't manage it, I'm like a bear with a sore head. And then I turn my attention to de-cluttering the house, which isn't always the best thing to do when I'm grumpy as nothing survives that!13 -

@Madwife2009 - wanna come to my house on rainy days?
I can relate, though! If I don't/can't work out, I get so antsy and HAVE to do SOMEthing! Often it's cleaning, cooking, or in my most recent instance, tearing out shelves in a closet to completely re-do the whole thing!4 -
Cold. Waves of crushing cold. Granted, I live in Michigan and it's like 10 degrees right now, but the house never feels warm enough. I have a heating mat to sit on or rest my feet on.
Husband actually is LESS interested in me. I think he prefers plumper. I might just be over thinking, but he has always said "skinny girls look like skeletons". I just figured it was his way of telling me I was fine. Now I'm starting to see it was a point of personal attraction for him perhaps.40 -
While you feel great from the improved diet and increased exercise, the changes to your body can be nearly imperceptible and excruciatingly slow,18

Ew. So tacky. Women should know better to say that to another woman. Unless my water is breaking on the floor in front of you, you better never ask me if I’m pregnant. I hope you made her feel very uncomfortable for that.23 -
I'm surprised by the fact that I check myself out in the mirror now. I avoided them like the plague before.
People love to give unsolicited diet advice. Bish please.

I have had to recalibrate my spacial awareness.
Not only do I look daft (eg: pressing against walls so people can get past more easily only to find they've room for a double decker bus too if they so wish), but I keep hurting myself & breaking objects because I think I'm either closer or further away from things than I actually am....
Here's where I find out this is just me32 -

No, it's not just you. This is still an issue for me - I see a gap and think that there's no way I can fit through it and that I'm going to look stupid when I bounce off the sides . . .19 -

Not just you at all! I have issues with doors. I used to use my hips to help push doors open, especially when I had things in my hands. Now muscle memory takes over and I end up almost falling into the doors because my hips aren't nearly as close to the door as they used to be... oops.

Haha, so relieved not to be alone! But very sorry you have to deal with it too. Wonder how long it will take to settle down/sink in? I've a lot more weight left to lose too...maybe this is life now....3 -

I too fall through doors frequently, it's maddening haha! Also amazed by how much more easily doors can move ME out of the way if they swing hard! Thanks for sharing, I feel a lot better about it all knowing I'm not alone9 -

Others fail to realise the change as well. My children still hurl themselves at me the way they used to when I was huge . . . I love, love, love their enthusiasm but they can actually knock me off my feet now, especially as two of them have gone through massive growth spurts and are now taller than me - I have really brace myself and adopt a very steadying stance when I see them gearing up for a running embrace19 -

A while back there was a woman somewhere on the boards (I wish I could remember where) who said when she was over 300 pounds she'd have to kind of fling herself off the couch with enough momentum to counteract all that gravity, then after losing 100 pounds or so without dropping that habit she once overdid her couch fling to the point where she ended up face-planting. I was peeing myself. We can all only hope for such an indicator of our success44 -

You're a lucky woman to still have your kids WANTING to do a running embrace once they hit the sullen teen years (which I'm assuming some have done since they're now taller than you)!11 -

I am a lucky woman, you're right. My kids are usually great to have around. I have three teenagers, but only one is totally in the sullen, grumpy teenager-wilderness (and blames me for just about everything that goes wrong in her life), one of my sons has the odd bout of grumpiness which lasts just minutes (unlike his older sister whose grumps last hours, no, probably days) and my other teenage son hasn't yet hit the grumps (maybe he won't, who knows?). Both of my sons still launch themselves at me. My five year old is a long way off from all that although we do get tears when she doesn't get her own way. Lots of hugs too though, and she's more than capable of knocking me off my feet13 -

I love that, it's so lovely if not a bit nerve wracking for you! Sometimes my hubs forgets & will accidently send me flying when we are messing around being daft. He'll "bump" into me & I'll suddenly be clinging onto a piece of furniture . Before I was practically unmoveable so it's very easy done! Always a giggle16 -

That's fantastic! I do love these odd NSVs. Another is I nearly always forget when I have a bath that I've nothing to hit the sides with & sort of slip down like an upturned dolphin haha. But when I hurt myself or break something it's a wee bit less fun Though, I am a bit naturally clumsy so I suspect it's amplified!8
