so,
I'm in week 1 of marathon training (Hal Higdon Novice 2 on the idea that if I don't hit that I can fall back on Novice 1). Each of his plans is a four day running plan. So far this week I have done two runs, of less than 3 miles.
The problem is currently my thyroid is over-active, and far from having the symptoms of sudden weight loss and feeling full of energy, I feel jetlagged, woozy, my muscles ache and even the walk back from a hospital appointment took it out of me today.
The marathon is in June, the cut-off is 8 hours, and using that marathon predictor I posted earlier I am looking at 7 and a half hours (and that was BEFORE these health issues).
But I'm not pulling out just yet. Having the marathon training plan in front of me is giving me a goal and plan for the week (and makes me feel yeah F you thyroid) I'm going to go out for a run tomorrow and see where it gets me. I have a 10k night race next week, no idea of the cut-off, but I think I'll be okay with that, and I know I can do the distance.5 -

That's interesting. I also was faster than the predictor, but only by 1 minute and 40 seconds. Interesting read though. thanks for posting, @girlinahat0 -
Runs have been going good and bad like the weather in VA. My legs are worn out and I can't wait to get to taper in about a week. Hopefully this training plan will pay off for One City 3/4/18. Hope everyone's healing and having good runs!6 -

Woke up feeling extremely tired despite falling asleep early. I thought about skipping my run, but I bucked up and did it. The weather was balmy and breezy and I wasn’t entirely slow which really surprised me since I’m still recovering from being sick. The last two miles were pretty slow, but now that I’m done I actually feel better and not so exhausted.
Happy for a three day weekend!
3/18/2018 Shamrock half marathon

Two consecutive days of running! Still no time to catch up. Job is crazy! But it's a 3 day weekend for me (gotta love working for a bank), so I should have a bit of time to relax.

This week was rough, I had really bad stomach bug. Running didn't feel great but I was able to complete week two of the program. Sometimes I feel silly posting my updates because I don't have even close to half of the mileage being posted on here. I guess eventually I will7

@joyous2018 there is NO person in this challenge thread who will judge your poorly for your distance totals. Not one person. I've been a participant in these monthly challenge threads for nearly 3 years and I have never seen even one disparaging comment. Ever single runner, regardless of their miles today, started at the same point.
Complete week 2 of your program with a stomach bug is amazing! I just had something earlier this week (flu, stomach bug, no idea) and I quit running altogether for 4 days.14 -

What he said! This is only my third month of this challenge but everyone is so supportive. No distance judgment. No pace judgment. Every journey is different but we all have a love/hate relationship with running that others just don’t get. Plus I’m sure all my non running friends are grateful that I can post here instead of endlessly talking runner talk with them!10 -

Agreed. NO ONE here is going to offer anything other than support. I also have been here 3 years, @7lenny7 I had to check your date because I thought for sure you'd been here longer than I.
@Joyous2018 if you want to run, this is the group to hang with. I also started with 20 or 30 miles my first month and I can't remember if I made it or not. If I did it's only because I counted walking miles and this group was so supportive. I was intimidated at first and just creeped on the January thread before I jumped in in February. I learned a lot here. I tried to take up running years before, but never made progress because I didn't understand what dedication it took. The last 3 years have offered more progress than the last 10 have. I attribute that to the group.
We love newbies.
Oh ETA my running goal this month is ZERO. So you're doing better than I am.
And you can find us on Strava. MFP monthly running challenge. I think there's a FB group too. @orphia is heading that up.5 -

It's easy to feel intimidated when some people are training for marathons and ultra-marathons, but in my experience the advanced runners are also some of the nicest! I'm a new runner (finished c25k in November) and I don't plan to ever run very many miles per week, because my joints don't like high mileage. But the low mileage is really good for my health, and I have been constantly improving my speed at short distances in the few months since I started. Everyone has different goals. We're all runners!10 -

I don't think in all my (off and on) years here I've ever reached my goal. And no one has been anything but supportive.5 -

Got out to run between meetings for 3 miles around noon and decided to go back out this evening since I won't be able to run this weekend. We have an agility trial all day both Saturday and Sunday and it is not local so we will be driving a ways. I am thinking I might try to run just a bit with Hobbes the Vizsla at the trial location in the morning as it is right by a lake.
