I haven't been here since last week and am pages behind. No running over the weekend because we were at an agility trial all weekend. Hobbes the Vizsla didn't't do too well with his agility but got 2 Trick Dog titles and that was really fun. Weather has been cool/cold (for us) and pretty much perfect for running. Life and work keep getting in the way and when I have gotten out it hasn't felt great. I am struggling with a sore calf and then my hip and Achilles start to hurt. I am sure it is compensation on my part for the sore calf or maybe the sore calf is a result of my hip being tight. In any event, more stretching and foam rolling are on order.
Hoping I can get back and read some of the posts I have missed - hope everyone is doing great!

We only found out cause I sent my son out with his school fund raiser and someone actually made it clear they intended file a complaint if he showed up again. Did not believe it... till I looked up the law, and sure enough, it is real.
Where I live, there are solicitation ordinances too. In my city specifically, they need to buy a license to solicit door to door. Frankly, I think it is ridiculous. It truly doesn't bother me if someone rings my bell trying to sell something. If I don't want to buy it, I'll just say no... is that really such a bother?!
My assumption was that it more out of concern for the safety of the children? IDK, Maybe not.
It’s probably a general rule to protect vulnerable people. Not everyone has the capacity to say no and door-to-door people can be very persuasive. We tend to mostly have charity reps (although they are just paid workers and don’t actually work for the charity) asking for sign-ups or dodgy builders who fleece little old ladies out of their pensions for building works they don’t need and don’t get.
What are Girl Scout cookies? At first I thought they were a brand and money went towards the scout movement. Are they homemade?0 -

So this morning at 10am a friend called and left a cryptic message.
12pm Swimming Pool - 1km Timed swim - Winter Triathlon Stage 1. WTKitten TriAthlon in the winter??
Whats a guy to do but go to the pool and hit the water. Turns out someone had reserved ( paid ) for the center lanes - no one ever fessed up. So 11 of us jumped in ( 2 waves ) and swam 1km. Fastest was our petite super Triathlete 16:32. Slowest might have been me 24:12. Stage one complete.
Stage 2: Everyone reconvened after work at 5:30pm beside the rec center for a 6km run up hill ( 204m ) out of the valley and return. Again I may have been the slowwwwest snail on the trail. Pretty much bang on 48:08.
I'm okay with the Time as it's a long uphill slog that I haven't done since November.
Stage 3: Local Ski Hill - Night skiing under lights ( 25% ) of the lights were off due to an electrical problem so some of the runs were dark, skiing with a headlight is very different than running due to the higher speeds and more variety in the terrain. Ski/Snowboard every run at least once and then keep pounding up and down as long as you can. Was a challenge as I forgot my goggles at home so any type of speed caused my eyes to water over = blurry vision. 7 runs = 10.95km and 800m elevation. Stage 3 complete. I had the 2nd highest total.
No prize, No bragging rights just a fun challenge covering 18km to get some people out for some mid-winter activity and help break the doldrums. My legs are pretty much Jello now - 1600m swim yesterday with the Adult Swim club and most of that was a backstroke Kick Session.

Absolutely awful run, not feeling great and probably shouldn't have run. Going to give strength training a miss and curl up on the sofa with a coffee instead.

Just 7.3 this am. Treadmill at gym has 60minute limit I tricked it into enough time for 7.3 but I did not attempt to restart and go for my full 8 miles. Great vacation week for me I'm up to 31 miles and feeling very good. I'm using a heat pack and elevation on my Achilles tendon at night, its working wonders.

Last run before Gasparilla this weekend. This is it. Last year I ran it, it was the 1st 5K run after one 1 1/2 years and 2 foot surgeries. I had gained back a bunch of weight, hadn't trained well, and was not in a particularly "good" place. I ran it anyway...and had my worst 5K time EVER! I struggled. My goal was under 45 mins, I did it in 45:44, pace 14:42.
This year, I'm about the same weight, but I feel a bit better, both physically & mentally. I know I've been training, so lets see how this goes. My 1st ever Gasp 5K, back in 2014, I did in 39:43, pace 12:49. So...making a goal, lets say, in between the two, definitely under 45 mins. My main goal is to finish strong, beating my time from last year, and not struggle like I did.

Decided to hit the trails to change it up and out of nowhere the trail ended. No signs to say stop choose the other path. Just a ditch and a hill clearly leading to someones backyard. So since i wasnt too sure of where i was i decided to head back to a main street and find my way home.

I am from Pittsburgh and Seven Springs is actually where I learned to ski! I have not been there in years though. Deep Creek is not that far away. They will likely be making snow, but I have no desire to try and ski when it's raining and everything on the ground immediately turns to ice. I have tried that before and it's pretty miserable. I think I will try and hit some trails for running and hiking. And I am sure that my legs will still welcome a few long soaks in the hot tub.
BTW, the hot chocolate motorcycle ride sounds like fun!3 -

(looks left.....looks right....) Erm....not guilty by reason of insanity? That is my preferred time to run. And when I run on work days, that's when it has to be done. (I work 0645am - 7pm) Weather is cooler, very low traffic, no one looking at ya, and it is over and DONE so the rest of the day is yours. Welcome to the asylum!

8 miles on the treadmill to finish my goal... I am very concerned I will not get another opportunity to run before the end of the month since I am traveling so I figured knock it out. this was by no means the furthest I have run but it is the furthest on a treadmill and probably in the last five years. I was very slow but that was my goal going in just run the whole time (which I did until I have to rest the treadmill but that only took a second)

got in five miles in my vague attempt to keep to the marathon plan this morning. I have come to the conclusion that 14 minute plus miles MUST be a sign of ill-health. I mean, five miles was HARD this morning. Really hard. I have a 10k race on Saturday, and will be checking with them first what the cut-off is, because I reckon it'll take me about an hour and a half.
sorry, just me getting depressed about my ill health and the long slow turning of the cogs of the NHS. Every so often I consider abandoning the idea of trying to run, and giving up the idea of the marathon ever happen, but then what happens? Surely that's just the way to fatness and unfitness? The nurse taking bloods this morning asked if I exercised when I told her my resting heart rate was increasing. Surely exercise helps it go DOWN not up?

They are sold by the Girl Scouts, made at a few select big bakeries. A small portion goes to the troop. I assume the rest goes to the bakeries and main Girl Scout organization but not 100% sure. It's been a long time since I was a girl scout. If I recall, we used the money to do overnights?0 -

my RHR went up while I was sick. It's finally back down to normal for me, now that I'm better. Keep doing what you can and keep going. Training wile unwell is HARD. Sometimes it's better to rest. thank you. That's reassuring. I've already missed a couple of shorter runs, as I think this thyroid thing is now causing muscle weakness - my leg muscles are having a hard time right now. I'm certainly not aiming to set any kind of reasonable time if I make it to the start line!!! Right now I'm trying to do as many of the runs as I can within the cycle, no matter how long each of the runs takes me. I'm run/walking but may try just running for shorter runs.

my RHR went up while I was sick. It's finally back down to normal for me, now that I'm better. Keep doing what you can and keep going. Training wile unwell is HARD. Sometimes it's better to rest. I missed like 14 training days in my marathon cycle last year and still made it to the starting line. You can do this!

Just keep at it and keep intensity real low, the exercise will help with general health and it will help you keep your mind in the game too. You got this!3 -

Also a 4:30 am runner. I'm not sure when else I'd do it during the week. Occasionally when I work from home and it's cold out, I'll do it around lunch time when there's more degrees.2 -

Showers early with thunderstorms developing later in the day. High near 50F. E winds at 10 to 20 mph, with occasional gusts to 40 mph. Chance or rain, 80%
Temperature at race start is forecast to be 40F. That, plus rain, plus wind, plus lightning. The course report from yesterday indicated lots of packed snow and ice yet, and they recommend screw shoes. FUN STUFF!!

Does anyone here have a Google Pixel 2 phone? I keep having problems with my Garmin (Forerunner 220) staying paired with my phone. I constantly have to keep manually pairing them and even then sometimes it doesn't want to work. Has anyone else experienced this same issue?0
