My husband and I had a good week of cycling!!
Last Sunday we cycled a 200 km randonnee (215.5 km!!) ... a timed long distance event.
Then between Tuesday and today we cycled the Great Victorian Rail Trail as a cycling tour:
https://www.greatvictorianrailtrail.com.au/
We did a bit extra on the Wednesday so all up, we cycled 312.4 on that cycling tour.
In total: 527.9 km in a week!!
I'll probably do a bit of a write-up about the tour in coming days ... with photos!!

The Skype session was as chaotic as normal with Bea trying to grab the laptop and everybody trying to get next to the screen. Their parents have at last told them that we are hoping to move down there. Before they didn't tell them as they didn't want them to be disappointed. We are looking forward to having a couple of hours with them on Monday.
Much love, Heather UK xxxxxxx5 -
For the new people, these are the terrors we are hoping to move near to.

Hi from NY! Long day of travel (I was ill on the plane) but happy to arrive home to our very own bed.5

A few more from Pompeii and the Naples museum. DH felt the tour could have lasted 2 days there but we only had an afternoon. The statue is Eros, and the theater in Pompeii as well as a cast (skeleton is inside).

Okay last group of pics! The apt pic is for all of us to dream of having a pied a terre in Rome!!5

Good morning all! Just a quick check in before I hobble out the door and on my way to usual Saturday shopping/errands.
Dana-I agree with the others on consulting an attorney. If anything to give you peace of mind, if nothing else comes from it. Sending you lots of love and hugs.
Machka- Love the tour link! You and your DH have racked up some impressive mileage! congrats!
Karen NY- Oh the sculpture! Thanks so much for sharing!
Heather- LOL! I can just imagine the kids all scrambling for "face" time with you and your DH! Love the pic of them; they look adorable!
Allie- Many places like to have a cache of applications on hand for when a position opens up. Perhaps, the owners/managers know a position will be opening, but the employee you talked to does not have this information. Chin up!
I am looking for photos of my SIL's horsehair jewelry. I know she stopped advertising on etsy a few years back. She has three teenagers she is trying to keep up with and a full time job, so she has shelved it for a while. I have one of her basic necklaces. I will try to get a picture of it today, and post it later.
Gotta get busy! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)3 -

Kay: Welcome to a great group of supportive women. I've never belonged to WW but have a neighbor who transformed herself. Their system is not logical to me, and counting calories is something I understand better than "points." Some of the ladies here have also been TOPS members. :flowerforyou:
Shasha: Welcome to a great group of supportive women. We were competitive sailors in our past, and then were cruisers for many years. We enjoyed it very much. We sailed a Lightning when we were competing. We had lots of fun but were never in first place. Our son sails a Lightning on the East Coast during the season DH has MS and doesn't even want to be on the docks these days so our current boat sits unused... :ohwell:
Heather: Happy house hunting! :flowerforyou:
I deleted Olympics from my TV recorder last night. It had filled nearly 90% of the capacity of my recorder and bumped out all of my favorite shows. I love summer Olympics and winter sports is not either of our interests. It is good to have my regular programming available again.

Hi Ladies,
Thank you to everyone for your support and advice.(and all the hugs, too) I know that it will come off, but It's so hard to get below that certain weight. Once I get below that, I shouldn't have a problem. Well, off to do laundry.

Allie how disappointing! Fingers X'd the next opportunity will be the right one.
Mary in Az Safe travels! Thanks but alas not following keto plan ;} Lord knows I am beyond menopause and thankfully bloodwork shows not even pre diabetic. Also thankfully tobacco free since 1999 yay me! No cancer treatments, pine nuts. Have been taking Zarelto since Sept, but the bitter taste just started 2 weeks ago. Maybe GERD, maybe sinus, will try to be more observant. Not painful, just annoying.
Terry can't claim stress breath but now I know I should have bought those sugar free cinnamon altoids
Heather saw a "brain games" episode that demonstrated women generally see more shadings in colors than men can, maybe it's the same with smells. Know I can detect (usually yucky) scents that Joe doesn't. Those terrors look terribly cute! How exciting!
Sue "Bloom where you are planted" beautiful!
Dana in AR, taxes ugh. We had to make a last minute quarterly estimated payment of $1500 the first year because I failed to have tax withheld from IRA distributions. Changed that up in a hurry, even though it meant less disposable income monthly.
Evie sweeping salt, now that's a new way to burn!
Karen in VA good reminder about contributing to IRAs to reduce tax burden... IF you have the $$$
pip ice biking?!?
Barbie congrats to your students on their engagement! Guess their love kept them warm despite no heat in the building
Welcome Sasha! Think Kim is in N Calif
NYKaren thanks for the pics. Most compelling is the cast, so sad, so telling.
Becky my wii weight can fluctuate wildly, even as much as 4 lbs either way. Like the others said, take it in stride, watch the general trend, and measure when needed for a little lift.
Pouring down rain so no beach trip with pooches this morning. Instead will finish taxes, yuck. Would almost rather walk in the downpour.
Mindful hugs to all,

it's so fun riding while it's snowing... u feel so alive5 -
Did Cathe Friedrich's Travel Fit DVD. The plan for tomorrow is to do a yoga DVD. Not sure yet which one, tho
After exercise, bought gas so I'm full for Monday (boo), went to CVS to get a paper and this cough medicine for Vince, then to the bank to get money for me for Mon (double boo), then to the ceramics place to see if just in case Noreen had these cleaning items but she didn't.
It's beautiful here today, perfect for sitting by the pool. Then again, any day when it isn't raining is a good day to lay by the pool....lol
Cheryl - congrats on the new Fitbit! that's wonderful What awesome pics
Sasha - welcome! Be sure to bookmark this site.
Joyce - (playing Pomp and Cirumstance)
NYKaren - fantastic pictures. Thanks so much for sharing
katla - I honestly never understood WW either. I must say, tho, that of all the "diets" out there, to me this is the most reasonable. Everything has calories. I could never undersand how something could be "free". But they do emphasize fruits and veges and, really, nothing is off limits. It's portion control, so to me that makes the most sense
Barbara - new Olympic sport -- ice biking

I am Kay. I lost 30 pounds on it, lost my job so had to stop then gained 20 of it back. Took a year to gain it back. Recently rejoined and have lost 10 of the 20 gain. I come here b/c of the support and great people. I actually log on both MFP and WW to compare.

Good morning!
KarenNY ... love seeing the photos! Glad you had a good time!
Heather ... your little "terrors" are a cute bunch!
Kay ... I've been on and off WW over the years, but not recently. Calorie counting is easier for me and this idea that there is such a thing as a "free" food doesn't make sense. I like MFP and it's basic premise of CICO as it is not a diet ... just a way to monitor your own chosen food choices.
So we viewed our first "accessible" apartment this morning ... in a senior community as they accept any age if a disability is present. The apartment was ok, but will be too small (800 sq ft) for two wheelchair users. It was newly carpeted, which most of us would consider a plus, but we would have to resurface as my son's roommate uses a manual chair and would never be able to maneuver his chair on carpet. Bathroom was doable but also small. All in all, it was a start. We'll keep it as an option, but it would be a pretty big step down from his current location. We looked at the senior building as there are already safety measures in place due to the ages of the general population, but I suspect these two guys are going to want something a little more contemporary.
I have managed two days of staying within calorie limits and have had two days where I've gone over but still have that .... "you would weigh in 5 weeks" thing showing a loss.
So today is another "one day."

NYKaren, thanks so much for the photos! Incredible to think how long those structures have stood for..... And the pied a terre is a lovely idea!
Heather, such sweet looking little terrors! No wonder you want to be closer to them! Hope you see some possible while viewing houses.
Kay, I did WW for awhile, did it on line several years ago, lost 30 lbs (yay!) found most of it (boo!), tried again on line a few times, miserable failures. Started to go to meetings because I thought I was ready, yeah, not so much. I do like their philosophy, it's not a diet, it's a way of life. They do emphasize fresh fruit and veggies, whole grains etc, it's a very healthy way of eating if you follow. They call them free foods because they are low in calories and are good for you, so in that way it's a really good program. I just need more support than one meeting a week. I know I can go to more meetings, but it's a time thing too. With MFP, and especially since I found this group, I can go on here any time of the day or night, log food, check out a recipe or read some posts and get the lift (or kick!) that I need. That was what I liked about WW online the first time, fell in with a great group of gals (still on Facebook with several) and it was great having someone to be accountable to! I feel I'm getting that accountability here now, so it's great!
Yesterday was a good day in that I walked a lot, with hand salting our parking lot and then sweeping salt away from locker doors. Today, just had to hand bomb the lot. We are supposed to have a company come in and salt/plow as necessary. They didn't bother this morning. Grrr.... Tried calling them, no answer, no callback either. It's supposed to go up to 6 or 7 today, so really don't need them now as I think it's already above freezing. It's annoying tho, we pay a retainer, for lack of a better word. to make sure we are on their priority list. It was half rain half snow when I was driving home last night, then it froze early this morning. You'd think they'd know that they had to get out there, oh well, I will tell the boss when I see her, she can deal with them. We just have to be careful, if someone were to slip on the lot they could sue us, so salt, salt, salt! Hopefully will be fine by tomorrow!
Welcome to the newbies! Hugs for those who need them, (you know who you are!), and kudos to those who have had successes - you know who you are too!
That's it for me for now! Hope everyone has a good day!

MYKaren, love the pictures but sorry you were sick on the way home.
Heather, 3 cute kids.
Janet, pet eggs, new baby eggs?
Just waiting to go in and have my taxes done. They are running late. Guess I’ll be late picking up DH from work.
Hope everyone has a wonderful day!

sashaspiegel wrote: »Hi Ladies... I just started on MFP 3 weeks ago. I love this program and am excited to join a group of ladies 50 plus. I am 53 a mom of a 11 year old and a competitive sailor. My husband said we needed to loose weight to stay competitive. It was just the incentive I needed, since I was feeling 50 plus and frumpy. Sooooo... I started logging my food each day. I'm eating 6 meals a day and my big goal for the rest of the month is NOT to eat after my 6th meal at 8:00 pm. Not watching TV after dinner maybe quite helpful. Plus if I'm typing or reading on the computer it's hard to eat and type at the same time : ) Are any of you ladies in Northern California?
Welcome! We used to live in Vacaville, but moved up to Oregon for some surgery my husband needed. I have a sailor too, but he's retired. What is a competitive sailor??
Well this is a great group of ladies! It's like this is "Clan of the Cavebear", and we are all Aylas.!

Becca: A competitive sailor races sailboats. We raced Lightning Class sailboats during the early years of our marriage, and then "graduated" to small cruisers. We still own a 32 foot sailboat, and have sailed it up the coast to the San Juan and Gulf Islands several times. We even spent a night at the marina on Whidbey Island in the long ago past. Our poor boat has been sitting in its slip, unused, since DH's MS diagnosis.9

Hi ladies! I'm not in my 50's yet, but I'm 47, so I am close! I thought this group might be helpful because I have been in perimenopause for several months and I am wondering how that affects weight loss. Things seem different this time around. I've been working hard at this for a couple of weeks and although I am losing, and my body feels much better, it's going REALLY slow compared to when I did this 9 years ago. Is that normal? No quick drop and then slow and steady like in the past. It's ALL slow and it seems I'm fighting for every ounce. I didn't know if it's because of where I am in life, or because I'm doing a little strength training this time. What have your experiences been?
Thanks!

Happy Saturday!
So, yesterday we visited a food bank! Our helper guy was efficient! He picked up items and I say yes please or no thank you. Husband pushed the metal cart with our bags to put the items in. I was able to get crackers, coffee, juice, refried beans, granola cereal, yogurt, a roast, butter, havarti cheese, multi grain bread, swirlcut squash, Japanese noodles, Asian salad kit, and some detergent. We are blessed!
Made lasagna again! Sadly, it was only 3 layers, so kinda flat lasagna!! My husband demolished it anyway. I'm going to take the swirly cut squash and mix it with honey and olive oil, maybe toss some of my oatmeal/ toasted coconut on it.
Rec'd also a huge bag of fresh spinach. Its as big as my pillow!
So I think I'll be sautéing spinach today and freezing it. At least half the bag anyways! I can't even fit it in my frig right now!
I have my infused rice bag that is garlic flavored, so I might just make that too. Then I can freeze both the rice and the spinach together. All I have as containers is large yogurt or cottage cheese containers. I'm thinking as long as I separate servings with some saran wrap, I can layer it. Easier to heat up, to use as stir fried, soup, or a side.
I am avoiding my vacuum. I really hate vacuuming!

Just came in from the pool.
Beth - there is no way on this green earth I'd ever weigh what MFP tells me I'd weigh in 5 weeks. Well...maybe I could get there...with starving, and I'm not going to do that
Mary from Arizona - enjoy!
Susan - welcome! Oh, it's absolutely normal for it to take longer to lose weight in perimenopause. The only thing is...it gets worse when you are thru menopause. Having such great support is so wonderful.
Evelyn - I agree, I love being able to come here any time, any day,
Becca - great to freeze the spinach. I don't know where I'd be without my freezer.
