Heather, congratulations! So pleased for you after last year's trauma with things falling through. You'll so love being in an area with all the shops and wonderful things, and it looks quite inviting.

Good morning!
So we viewed our first "accessible" apartment this morning ... in a senior community as they accept any age if a disability is present. The apartment was ok, but will be too small (800 sq ft) for two wheelchair users. It was newly carpeted, which most of us would consider a plus, but we would have to resurface as my son's roommate uses a manual chair and would never be able to maneuver his chair on carpet. Bathroom was doable but also small. All in all, it was a start. We'll keep it as an option, but it would be a pretty big step down from his current location. We looked at the senior building as there are already safety measures in place due to the ages of the general population, but I suspect these two guys are going to want something a little more contemporary.

I hear you about wheelchairs and carpet!! WHY??? I live in a great 2 bdrm apartment that is wheelchair friendly but it would be too small for 2 chairs. Only the bathrooms are not exactly wheelchair friendly which is okay for me since I can take 2 hops from the door to the toilet and shower....plus usually in the bedroom, I am on my crutches.3 -
Drive by posting for now. So very excited, despite some not so great and even bad choices a few times in the past week, I managed to lose a pound! The frustration starts when I think what could have happened had I actually stuck to the plan those days..... Oh well, a pound is a pound and I will take it! Definitely motivates me to get back on track!
Evelyn, Vancouver Island7 -
Barbara, Carol, Kylia, Katla - Thanks for your kind words and support.
Penny - You work so hard. I'm sure you will enjoy those grandkids. You definitely deserve some down time.
Barbie - I am glad you are so good at setting clear boundaries. I have a lot to learn.
Terry - Jheri is a strong advocate for me and has been since she was just 17. I'm going to take credit for raising an amazing woman. Thanks for the quote. I love it.
Heather - OOH! Exciting News! I would be jumping out of my skin. The house looks lovely. How close to the beach?
I need to listen to your DDIL's talk and now I should have a little extra time.
Allie - I am glad things are finally coming together for you. The Allie Oasis will be much used by you and your friends I am sure.
Katla - Hope you feel better soon. I'm sure Arrow misses you.
Rori - Happy Retirement Day! I am sure they will miss you as it sounds as if you were a driving force in the organization. Have a great get away. I only hear great things about you.
No alarm for me this morning. It was nice although I've always got up before it sounds. This morning I was awake at 4, 5, 6 and gave up on the whole sleeping in thing by 7. I am however still in pjs, having enjoyed a leisurely breakfast, on my 2nd cup of coffee and talking to you lovely ladies.
I have a meeting with my manager and director at noonish. Taking in my note and doing what is necessary for my benefits to pay me until I can kick it into Medical EI and then on to AISH or disability. I am a ball of emotion and have already cried. I better take tissue along.
Anxiously awaiting Jheri's call to see which paintings are going to be featured. Looking forward to Saturday night when her art will be on public display.
Time to get dressed and get going. I do have to take Harmony to dance this afternoon. Not sure why as the day is warm and sunny and I'm sure that Kim could figure it out if she wanted to. I'm going to tell my son that they have to give me some gas $$$ as I drove them 3-4 x week and I may be short in the money department until this is all figured out.

KarenNY: Proud of you for losing a pound while on a holiday. Best of luck with the remainder of your orchestra season.
Lisa: Has it been a year already??? So glad you are enjoying your job. They are lucky to have you.
SueinWA: Adorable puppy.
Machka: I'm just in awe at how much distance you cover on your rides. Thanks for the photo tour.
Pip: Floor exercises...totally with you there. Hate 'em. But I might be asking you to raise your boot in my direction and get me back in the gym.
Heather: DIL is brilliant! I'm sending good thoughts across the pond for some real estate luck to come your way.
My two magical months of living in countdown mode are about to end. ONE. MORE. DAY. My retirement is going to be a surprise to most of my associates around the country. It's my choice to make a quiet exit. My team wants me to come back to NYC in March for a face to face sendoff. No way! No parties, no gifts, no cards, please. Biggest honor would be for them to support our council in Puerto Rico, which is in a world of hurt because they had to cancel their cookie sale this year. It's a disastrous hit to their finances. Hope they hear me.
I have lined up people to move out my home office furniture and a local handyman will be here in 2 weeks to paint the space which I am redecorating as my Zen den. While painting is happening, DH and I will probably take the train to Glenwood Springs, on the western slope of the Rockies, and spend a couple days soaking in the mineral springs and just being in the mountains. Looking forward, feeling positive. Happy dance music is queued up and ready to blast in about 20 hours.
Stay well friends. We can do this.

I am hot on your heels, trying to retire from at least my office job...but the light at the end of the tunnel is still far too distant, looking more like end of June rather than end of March, which had seemed a likely scenario. DH said he will be talking to head office on Monday so I guess it will be clarified then, I hope. It has all been very vague and ambiguous with lots of if this if that and wait and sees. Meanwhile, we are running out of money before payday which isn't fun and means juggling and stress. But at least there is a light, winking away in the distance.
Kylia, well done on getting your steps in. Who needs carpet anyway?
I'm kind of excited because my youngest daughter has set up a movie room for me upstairs with her xbox and a Netflix account. Now I am going to start catching up on all the movies and shows that I have missed over the years mainly because my hubby is hard wired to the tv remote at night, which is the only time I sit still long enough to watch a movie. And he watches Pickers and car auction and repossessing shows, and cooking shows that bore me to tears. Finally, I get to choose what's on the box. LOL. And it's just like going on the plane, with all sorts of choices and categories to choose from. Does anybody have any favourite movies or shows they can recommend to me? I plan to get a step machine or something to put in my movie room so I can do like Barbara and burn while I get my shows in. I want a machine that is quiet so I can hear my show without too much problem.

YESTERDAY saw my 2 Specialists (oncologist and liver). Blood work for the Oncologist was GREAT! Blood work for my liver guy - was not great. I am fighting a fatty liver. 4 years of too many medications, stress and lack of good exercise has caused this. I am currently 200lbs and the goal weight is 155lbs. This winter has been really bad for me. Socket issues kept me from cross country skiing and snow shoeing the distances that I would normally do. I suffer from SAD and the woman who is co-renting in my apartment has been without a salary for 3 months, which has put a huge financial burden on me. She is getting money now but that is still 3 months worth of rent, food and personal supplies that I have paid for. Money that I could of used to my Essential Oil business.....then there is the burden of my pending medical discharge. Not exactly what I need right now.
The lecture was: you need to drop 15lbs by the end of September. If the blood work comes back the same then we have to do a liver biopsy. I am NOT going to do this biopsy if all that needs to be done is WEIGHT LOSS!! I am DONE with medical procedures.
I got out of bed this morning and hit the pool. I only did 1000m but it was 1000m in 45 minutes.
I will admit that I am jealous of the husband. He has over 200km of skiing in this winter. 100km of snow shoeing. He is very supportive but I have been frustrated and sad. Being slightly depressed doesn't help when you also suffer from S.A.D - and this month is always the hardest, even with the added Vitamin D!!
I can't wait for the snow and ice to be gone! I will be getting my wheels out and hand biking and wheeling about in my wheelchair!
RESEARCHING foods for a fatty liver! So far it looks like lots' of FISH, green tea, dark berries, and dark green veggies. NO white rice, white bread, sugar and salt. Red meat in small doses (like 4oz a week!)7 -
Hi Ladies,
Day 2 of my Slimfast diet. Not too bad. It takes care of my chocolate craving and is filling. I just want to see if I can get rid of a few pounds using it.
Heather- Love the house. I always say you can't judge a book by its cover. If you just went by the outside, you might miss a real gem. Glad you found something you like.
Dana and Sunkist- I'm so sorry about your moms. I lost my mother to a stroke 3 years ago and I feel that it was also negligence on the part of the hospital and nursing home. They didn't want to bother with her, so they let her die. She was 92. I'm the youngest so I had no say in her care. I still haven't gotten over it. I don't think I ever will. Not only the fact that she died, but the fact that my older siblings kept things from me. Well enough of that.
Have a great day.

Katla, feel better neighbor!!!
Heather, Doing a happy dance for you!! How wonderful! Such a forward momentum in your life right now! Its kind of infectious! Love it!
Allie, sounds like things are working out, awesome! And an outside zen den to boot! My word of the day is "zen den"!
Sharon, glad you had your daughter there to support you!
Good day today for me. Up at 6:50am, acquired my first bead! Hazzah! Laundromat was boring, but my husband read the paper and we chatted about the latest going ons. I did my crossword and Sudoku puzzles.
This weeks goals are:
-log my food
-exercise nightly, (floor exercises, and stretching holding onto a chair). Doing the same things I did in aqua aerobics class.
-read nightly
The exercising and reading will calm and tire my body out for sleep. Plus I am doing 5 minutes of mindful breathing/meditate. That was actually fun!
Yesterday my dear husband bought 4 TV dinners, realising that I will be concentrating on my eating. At least being mindful of it. He knows I kind of go into game mode! I know I have to find that happy medium, but honestly, him and I eat so differently. I fix him good food, don't get me wrong, but our tastes are so different.
People state my eldest son looks more like me than husband, but I think all my sons are clones of my husband. I wish my son would find a girlfriend! He's my gentle giant, tall handsome! (Singing "matchmaker, matchmaker, make me a match, find me a fiiiind, catch me a caaaatch")....

thanks I will put those on my list. I've read part of the Eat Pray book but I haven't seen the movie.
Terry, thanks I will put Versailles on my list. Looks sizzling and has horses. Tick.
Heather, I have decided to take a virtual trip to Hove for a look around your new neighbourhood. I feel almost like I am moving too, LOL. I love change. So exciting. So many new things to see and experience.
I've just come in from a 30 minute run with Jock. Will be a long day at the office today with Accounts. My new diet, even though I haven't been perfect in adhering, has already reaped a 2lb drop and I ate quite a lot of food yesterday, so will keep plugging away with diet, running and weights.
Hi Penny, you sound way overworked. You need to watch Jessamy's Tedx talk. LOL https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZzyMF6bPgM
Kerri, there's nothing like a trip to the doctor to inspire renewed efforts. Good on you for the swim. You will have to hit the gym and do your upper body workout too. Get Pip to give ya a kick.

Hey Becky, Becca here! Heehee! My son used to drink the Carnation Instant Breakfast shakes. We had to keep tabs on him, cuz he was a tall skinny one! Anyway I could get extra food in that kid! I have tried Slimfast, when my sons were younger and I felt like I was on the go all the time. They're really convenient. :-)
This morning I had a Van's waffle, a T. of peanut butter, sliced a 1/2 banana, a tsp. of honey and voilà heaven! I tried to eat it like toast, buuut told my DH to get me a fork!

Sharon - The promenade and the sea is at the end of our road. Probably 200 yards. You can see the sea from our front garden. The light is incredible.
100 yards away in the opposite direction is the parade of artisan shops. A short walk away is a fish retail/wholesale market with its own boats.
We are still crossing our fingers because anything could happen to break the chain. We just are hoping now that our vendors can find the right property for themselves. They want a "doer upper", which is what they did with this property, adding hundreds of thousands to the value, with a complete remodel and a loft extension.
Much love, Heather UK xxxxxxx9 -

Heather- Congrats on the house! It looks fantastic and I know you will enjoy living there! So close to everything! And as far as price is concerned, we all know it's all about LOCATION! My home is a fifty year old 3 bedroom, 1 1/2 bath ranch style home. In most cities in the U.S. it would probably cost between $90k and $120k; but because it is a five minute walk to the beach...we paid almost double that 15 years ago, and it now appraises about $30k more than what we paid. We haven't made any improvements beyond keeping it up. It is all about location.
Rori- Congrats on retirement!
Lisa-GREAT blog post this morning!
Beth- Hope you find something that will work for your son and his room mate! P.S. DH is still in the "smack zone". He had his colonoscopy this morning. I wish they would have kept him there all day. Geez! Or at least fed him before they sent him home! What a pill!
Wendy- Favorite movies?!? There are SO many I love; but what I watch depends on what mood I am in or what I am doing while watching. Like working out while watching? Sounds weird, but I love to watch the "kick-butt women movies" when I am on the treadmill or in a feisty mood. Lara Croft Tomb Raider, the Underworld movies or the Resident Evil movies. G.I. Jane is pretty good for getting me psyched up, too.
Well, a little more sun today in my corner of the world. Yea! Got the kids out, again, today; so they conked out right after lunch. Actually had one little guy ask me for his nap! They are beginning to stir, now, so I better skedaddle! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)8 -
Heather, I love the house. Looks inviting and homey. Also, congratulations on graduating! Well done girl!
Just about to go in and talk to dr again about my foot. Fingers crossed I get some help. This is his last chance. No help, no dr. I’ll find someone else. Tired of this pain. I’ll keep you posted.
We are going to meet DD for dinner before her class.

Happy National Tooth Fairy Day!
"In the mid-1920s fairies were used for all sorts of health education from bath fairies to fresh air fairies as a way to get kids to remember to eat their vegetables, wash behind their ears and get a good night’s rest. ... Then in 1927, Esther Watkins Arnold printed an eight-page playlet for children called The Tooth Fairy. It was the same year Sir Arthur Conan Doyle “proved” his claim that fairies and gnomes are real and “verified” with pictures of two little girls surrounded by fairies. The world was ripe with imagination and primed to have a tooth fairy about to come collect the lost teeth of little boys and girls and leave a coin or two behind."
Sharon - So sorry about your disability, but I'm glad you'll have what you need to move forward with a disability claim.
Heather - Such great news! I'll do a happy dance for you once everything is signed, sealed, and delivered!
Rye - Oh, no, what a bummer about your refrigerator quandary! Hope you find a good solution soon.
Good grief, nearly March already. I do pretty well with tracking and exercise when I'm home. Every time I go somewhere for the weekend, things get out of whack. It takes me forever to get recombobulated and back into my routine. I have numerous weekend trips upcoming, so I'd better figure out a way to keep my bearings!
Looks like we will have to file with the probate court after all. The law doesn't require it, but the banks won't sign off on anything without letters testamentary (which I can only get by going before the court). Since when is a will not a legal document?! Anyhow, it's just another hoop we have to jump through with Dad's estate. It's not a huge deal, just a hassle because I have to get a lawyer to file, and then I have to take off from work so I can go to Houston on a weekday for the court date.
Things have just been so busy, and since I was gone over the weekend I haven't done meal planning and shopping for this week yet. Really need to do that, and maybe plan some meals Philip can help with because I have absolutely, positively got to get the tax papers ready for the accountant this week and that means catching up on my filing first. I desperately need a file clerk.

Well my husband is about fed up with the corporate world and is thinking seriously about retirement. His original plan was to make 40 years (with the same company) and that will happen in January of 2019 but lately he's thinking of calling it done in August. I honestly think he doesn't want to go through another season of budget meetings. His section that he has to budget for has a 3 billion dollar budget and it gets VERY intense. Budgeting for next year begins in August and will take 5 months of meetings and spread sheets out the whaazoo. He always complains that he's an engineer and not an accountant. It seems that for those months he's doing both the engineering, the managing and the accounting. I don't know if he'll go for the 40 years or not with his attitude quickly going south.
We were given tickets to the Houston rodeo tomorrow night and the Blake Shelton concert. Nice suite with lots of food and perks (that corporate connection does have it's perks I'll admit).
Smoking baby back ribs on the grill. I'll add grilled asparagus and topped with mashed avocado, have riced cauliflower with lots of butter and a salad. That's dinner for tonight.

Did the Biggest Loser Boot Camp DVD (another new one). The plan for tomorrow is to do a Rejuvination Total Body Toning DVD.
Kyla - I'm a big water drinker. I normally have over 100 oz a day
Rori - eeee...I'm so excited for you. I'm with you, whenever there was a milestone in my life, I would keep it to myself or something to keep it low key. I don't want anyone fussing over me. Have fun at Glenwood Springs!!! <dancing for you> How wonderful of you to care so much for Puerto Rico that you put them above yourself.
Rye - a hoola hoop challenge! How neat. Where did you find this challenge?
Went to the Newcomer board meeting. Vince didn't go. I gave my proposal for the magician even tho the amount was higher. They approved it. They did feel that I needed to give the bartenders more of a tip and the Gala/Summer Soiree committee less of a tip. They approved a meal for him which I didn't include in my budget. If he doesn't choose to have a meal, we'll just give him that money as a tip. Previously we (Newcomers) subsidized the meals. Now they aren't going to be subsidized but the meal will cost $5 more, which is probably for the good since the attendance number can't be counted on until the event. Anything extra ($$) from the meals will go to the bartenders
donna - wow! What a transformation!
We're too talkative! Have to leave in a few to get my Prolia.
Heather - doing a happy dance for you on your offer being accepted. What a home!
Sinuses are starting to act up (it's gotten cold) so I took a Sudafed.
Mary - feel better fast
Sunkist - yea for the blood work from the oncologist but boo for the blood work from the liver guy. You CAN do this
Marcelyn - have fun at the rodeo! Vince always says that the one real good perk he got out of Mars was that he became a Marriott Elite member.
Think that I'll go to ceramics tonight
Michele in chilly NC7 -
Heather - LOVE the welcome look of that house!! Hoping it all works out!! Walking down to the fish market! I haven't had a chance to watch your DIL'S talk yet, that's on the agenda though.
Kerri - (((HUGS))) how sad about your siblings and your mother's passing. Sheesh. From what I've read, cutting the carbs and sugar especially will help that fatty liver. Have you seen the Youtube presentation by Dr. Robert Lustig called "Sugar:The Bitter Truth". Very good, he talks about kids with fatty livers (and adults) and how to remedy that. Glad you got some swimming in!
Mary - oh no, vertigo! Maybe it's time to see the doc, you might have an ear infection- maybe you picked up a bug in Las Vegas? Well, if so it was supposed to stay there like the ads say.
Becca - how many days until you meet up with DS??? Your Van's waffle made me want to climb in the car and drive down there and tap on your door. I wouldn't have waited to use a knife and fork, lol.
Rye - that's the pits about your new fridge! Hope you can figure out something easy and pleasant looking with that tile. When we moved in here and bought a new fridge, we didn't measure the height and DH had to move the cabinet doors above it up an inch - or else we wouldn't have been able to open them! As it is, it sits out about 6" from the cupboards! Looks dorky. Glad it's in the corner. As I look at our range, there's about 1/8 of an inch on either side and they must have greased it with Vaseline to get her to slide in. Tight like the blocks on the pyramids! Still I see crumbs down there. Sigh.
Rori - the day has finally come! What a neat idea getting a Zen Den fixed up! You are well on your way to the next exciting chapter in your life!!
Yvonne - glad you are patient with process of settling your dad's estate. So many hoops and things to do. You are doing well taking it all in stride!!
Sharon - that's good news you are again moving toward the disability claim. Wish I was close enough to see Jheri's art exhibit! You are very wise and understanding with Creedin's behavior.
Marcelyn - seems like retirement is on everyone's mind these days! I plan to send myself to the Blake Shelton concert if the teleporter is out of the shop in time, so please save me some chow .
Regarding husbands who hog the remote - my DH would be happy watching MMA fighting (blood and smashed up ears and noses) and Andrew Zimmern eat strange stuff all day-some of which turns my stomach. So I watch lots of things close captioned on this PC, sometimes put in the earbuds.
Regarding handspinning - I did it for years! Ended up with nasty thumb tendonitis and surgery like carpal tunnel. So I sold my wheels and gave it up for good. It was a lot like patting the head and rubbing the tummy at the same time, but at the same time kind of therapeutic to hear the whirr of the wheel and feel the fiber in my hands.
Those of you who did the Hollywood Makeover (Laura and Lisa) - they turned out great and thanks for sharing! I bet the paparazzi are knocking on your doors! I can't figure out how to make mine into a .jpg from Facebook since I did it on a PC. Oh, I was able to paste a little picture onto a word document, maybe I'll try to post that here. It was fun.
I found a new series to watch on Acorn - Dr. Finley. It's from the mid 1990's, very well done I think. Will be sorry to see this one finished. Love the setting in Scotland in the 40's.
So we took my little Subaru in to get its 90,000 mile maintenance this morning. Only one call so far letting me know I should have the serpentine belts replaced as they are worn, I said OK! Otherwise should be tune up, radiator flush, punch list stuff. I probably put 5,000 miles a year on it now if that since I retired. Glad to have that done!
OK, time to close. Hellos to Newbies and hugs all around!

Thanks for the well wishes with my vertigo! Still waiting for it to go go go… Not as bad today though. I was able to get up and do a couple of things. I don't think I have an ear infection because that is generally associated with pain. I'm going to go sit in the hot tub and see if that can help with my sinuses. It may still be but I am a little stuffed up from the flu and bronchitis.
Lanette- you have such a great sense of humor!

Rye: Sorry your fridge doesn't fit the way you would like. :ohwell: It is better being a bit too small than too big. We have ours pressed right up against the counter on the left side and have a bit of space between it and the wall on the right side. It works out okay for us. Good luck. :floweroryou:
Heather: Your townhouse looks great! I love the brick. Is that a slate roof?
Sunkist: I take vitamin D3 for the SAD situation and it has been excellent. I use one Spring Valley 5000IU D3 capsule daily, year round. D3 has done wonders for me. I've also used other brands and they do just as well.
This is the last day of the month and later this evening Barbie will post a link to a new thread. The link will be at or near the bottom of this thread.

Rainy and windy SW WA State,
Well he just stayed up in Whidbey island the week he had leave. Just a small break, after being on base restriction for the past 60 days. He has accrued a lot of leave time so no problem for him to get leave closer to May when his townhouse lease is up. The plan is that husband gets surgery between now and March 16th. The doctors were going to see if they could schedule him in earlier, but I don't see that happening. So then a couple of months recouping, then we move! Son will rent uhaul, snd drive down here. We pack and we drive back up, and he can use the truck to move his stuff to rental. That is the plan anyways!
Ooh I would've let ya in!!! I have never shared breakfast with girlfriends ever!
Today is going splendid! I sautéed 1 oz of beef kielbasa with fresh chopped tomato and a wee bit of olive oil. Then I added a splash of water and a bit of better than bouillon chicken flavor. I then added my spinach and rice "nest". Oh I added a T. of ginger dressing. It was really good! Scarfed it down with a 16 oz crystal light lemonade!
For snack its the other bit of bananas, and yogurt. Oh and more crystal light...
Dinner shall be 3 deli thin turkey slices and 1 slice of havarti cheese on a swirl rye bread.
Treat is 3 sq. of chocolate with a cuppa.
My day in a nutshell... :-)

Mary, hot tub sounds like the perfect answer to the vertigo problem. Lol
Well I had an orthopedic made that is better than the over the counter one I use. I have flat feet and my ankle rolls in. Dr says it could take a year to be better. Hopefully this orthopedic will help.

Katla - I don't think it's real slate. Some kind of grey tile. The loft extension is really well done and blends in perfectly. The house has five bedrooms and two bathrooms, plus a downstairs toilet. The kitchen is a little short on storage, but I could do with getting rid of some of my massive kitchenalia collection. Don't think we'll have any money left for a refit!
Just hoping now that all goes ahead without a hitch. Let's hope that the vendors find their perfect house soonest.

Heather I think the house is gorgeous, love the great big bay windows and it looks quite roomy. I'm so excited, I hope they can find something for themselves so they can move right away.
