Happy Birthday Barbara. Hope it was a great day.
Yesterday I went to lunch with my golf group. After my first bite of steak, I chocked. My friend across the table ask if I was ok and I nodded my head no. Another friend stood up and started yelling help she is chocking, we need someone to do hymlick (sp) Thank God there was a table of 6 nurses sitting next to us. Two of them worked on me and the second one finally got it dislodged. To say it was scary is an understatement. The strange thing is when I got home I started eating all kinds of weird things.
Thanks Barbie for the new thread. I need to think about a new month and the opportunity I have been given.

Oh, Sue, that is so scary. So very thankful you are all right. Big hugs.

Just a little reminder about "Woo" for the newcomers, to prevent hurt feelings or misunderstandings ...
As seen in the link below, found in the News and Announcements section ...
"In our community Woo means that you think an idea or approach is too good to be true."
So ... when you "Woo" someone, you disagree with their approach or you don't believe them ... you think what they are saying is too good to be true. In a way it is a "dislike" button. If that's what you mean, then by all means, "Woo" away! But if that's not what you mean, try one of the other choices.

I'm toying with the idea of hiring someone to get our home office in order. But I don't have any idea where to find someone.
I have looked up professional organisers, but they seem to have all become instructional. They're willing to teach you how to do it yourself or offer classes on the joys of an uncluttered life or whatever, but no one seems to be available to actually do the job. I know how to do it! I've decluttered before and maintained it for many years. But now, I simply don't have time and I want someone else to do it!
Maybe a temporary secretarial service?
I'd prefer the person come from a professional organisation of some sort ...
The situation?
Because I've moved so many times since 2004, and have had my things in storage for long periods of time during those years, I have numerous filing systems that all need to be merged together. Plus, while waiting for some free time to organise things, of course more paperwork and everything has piled up. I'm starting to feel a bit swamped.
I'd like someone to organise it all, scan it all, and then shred anything that's out of date.
Once caught up, it would be easier to maintain. A place for everything and everything in its place. But right now ... I don't have a place for everything yet!
The rest of my house is pretty good, fairly well organised, reasonably neat and tidy. My office is out of control.

Terry in VT, Thanks so very much for the encouraging words. I feel so good and I'm totally confident I can do this and get back to my lowest weight after surgery, AND 10-15 pounds lower wouldn't hurt my feelings. LOL well one day a time

Katie - you probably won't miss the soda after Lent. It used to be that if we went out to dinner and they put a basket of bread on the table, it would be gone, courtesy of me. Then one year I gave up white flour for Lent. Ever since then (and it's been over 10 years) I have no desire for breads. As a matter of fact, many is the time when I'll order, say, a grilled chicken sandwich and ask for no bread. So I bet you won't care for the soda come April 1.
barbie - did I miss your birthday, too??? Happy, happy birthday
SuebDew - so glad you're OK now. Good thing those nurses were there.
Becca - sending prayers and good thoughts for your hubby and you
I want to take a cake decorating class. I understand that this will be the last class at AC Moore and Hobby Lobby doesn't have any right now. Michael's has, there are 4 sessions. You can sign up for any one of the sessions, they are $15 a session for 2 hours each session. I'm thinking of taking the one "how to decorate a cake" and "piping buttercream borders and flowers". The other ones are about decorating a cupcake, I don't feel that's worth $15 and one about cookies that I really couldn't care about. So in all it'll be $30. And I do have a lot of the supplies from the last time (30 years ago) that I took the cake decorating class. I do want to see if someone from AC Moore calls me back. Somehow I tend to doubt it. If not, then I'll probably take the two classes at Michael's.
Going to the Biltmore tomorrow with a friend. Got money today at the bank. Need to buy gas tomorrow a.m. since I told her I'd drive.
Exercised today, volunteered at the Green Room, home for dinner then Newcomer bowling (Vince didn't go but I did, I just told everyone "well, you got the best part"...lol), then stopped at Food Lion to get soda for Vince. I knew something was wrong with the receipt. They didn't take one of the coupons off, maybe it stuck to the other one. Their receipt is really confusing.
Best get to bed. Charged up my tablet so I can use the GPS on it. I do want to see if the charger in the car works.

Terry and Beth- my suggestion is to simply do the following-
1. Get Swing Timer app on phone or time 1 minute intervals.
2. Do this routine the first week-
Week 1.
Day 1 & 2- Goblet Squats 3 sets (1 each minute) of 5 squats at whatever weight you want to start with I started with 10 pounds. (This takes 3 minutes)
Russian Kettlebell Swing 10 sets (1 each minute) of 7 swings at X pounds (This takes 10 minutes)
Your routine took only 13 minutes and you probably feel like you didn't even workout.
Day 3 & 4- Goblet Squats 3 sets (1 each minute) of 5 squats at X pounds. (This takes 3 minutes)
Russian Kettlebell Swing 12 sets (1 each minute) of 7 swings at X pounds (This takes 12 minutes)
Your routine took only 15 minutes.
Notice you increased only the number of Russian Kettlebell Swings by two sets! If this is too much you decide how many sets you want to add.
Day 5 & 6- Goblet Squats 3 sets (1 each minute) of 5 squats at X pounds. (This takes 3 minutes)
Russian Kettlebell Swing 14 sets (1 each minute) of 7 swings at X pounds (This takes 12 minutes)
Your routine took only 17 minutes
Notice you increased only the number of Russian Kettlebell Swings by two sets! If this is too much you decide how many sets you want to add
Day 7 rest if you want or repeat previous day.
Keep the weight the same for 4 weeks unless you feel it is way too easy.
Week 2
Day 1 & 2- Goblet Squats 3 sets (1 each minute) of 5 squats at X pounds. (This takes 3 minutes)
Russian Kettlebell Swing 12 sets (1 each minute) of 7 swings at X pounds (This takes 10 minutes)
Your routine took only 15 minutes. Notice you did what we call a deload and started the week doing 2 less sets then day 5 & 6. This is the pattern for the next 3 weeks. 4 total weeks.
Day 3 & 4- Goblet Squats 3 sets (1 each minute) of 5 squats at X pounds. (This takes 3 minutes)
Russian Kettlebell Swing 14 sets (1 each minute) of 7 swings at X pounds (This takes 10 minutes)
Your routine took only 17 minutes.
Day 5 & 6- Goblet Squats 3 sets (1 each minute) of 5 squats at X pounds. (This takes 3 minutes)
Russian Kettlebell Swing 16 sets (1 each minute) of 7 swings at X pounds (This takes 10 minutes)
Your routine took only 19 minutes.
Day 7 rest if you want or repeat previous day.
Now see if you can repeat the pattern for the remainder of the 4 Week program.

Lanette- my husband swears by his reflexologist! He can hardly wait to see him when he gets back to Minnesota.
Lenora - nice to see you!
Kayla - a lot of the ladies take notes one way or another! We're all so chatty!
Rori - yeah for the raising of funds!
We went orange picking with friends today. Very fun. We cut up an orange off of the tree and tasted it to see if it was sweet and juicy enough before we picked any from that tree! Definitely not low carb today! We had juice all over our faces and hands! Then my husband and I went to the Minnesota Wild vs Arizona Coyotes hockey game we figured we couldn't be losers because one was our old team and the other our new! We really love retirement! Tomorrow morning I'm going with the ladies to Happy Trails flea market and out to lunch. Then happy hour and Farkel in the evening. So much to do. I feel like a kid again!

My word for the year is "Pluck".
Goals for March:
1) Work on one goal that requires pluck.
2) Log food on Cronometer
3) Weigh once a week
4) Stretch every day
5) 10,000 steps a day
So far I have needed pluck to finish up a difficult tax situation, and to support my partner in a bold decision to take advantage of retirement options offered by her employer that will defer almost her entire income for retirement. I have a house that my stepson was living in that needs to be sold. I will have to have some pluck to get it ready for sale. A lot of pluck. It needs quite a bit of work. Sigh...
Barbie Thank You for the March thread. Concerning what your friends say about the way you eat, here is what THIS friend says: you have found a way of eating and exercising that works really well for you. Everyone should be so fortunate. You have also fine-tuned your lifestyle, and you achieve, every day, peace and harmony as a result of your choices. So. You are still eating THAT way? How awesome and inspiring!
Becca I love The Holiday with Jude Law, Cameron Diaz, Jack Black, and Kate Winslet too! One of my favorites. Sweet and sappy. And by the way, I think you embody the essence of Jessamy's message. You take joy every day in small things. You are such an inspiration, Becca!
Kerri Gosh I'm sorry about the sadness surrounding your mother's death. That is just so wrong in so many ways. (((Hugs))) Concerning the fatty liver: as you know, weight loss & exercise will improve or even cure fatty liver, & low carb might speed it along. As you already mentioned, fish, veggies, berries, healthy fats like avocado, eggs, etc are the recommended diet. Dietary carbs tend to slow down the progress because carbs are transformed into glycogen which is stored in the liver, and if not immediately needed for energy, glycogen is converted to triglycerides, which contribute to fatty liver. Obesity is the biggest factor, though. Fatty liver can lead to cirrhosis. Cirrhosis, scarring of the liver, is irreversible. Fortunately, the liver is a very forgiving, redundant organ and will heal with weight loss & exercise. Even if some cirrhosis occurs, the rest of the liver, if healthy, will do all of the work. We really need only a portion of the liver to do all of the detoxifying, etc. (That's why people can donate a lobe of their liver to another person.)
Kelly I like kick butt movies, too. Laura Croft, Tomb Raider & Die Hard, for example. I like such a weird array of movies. I like all the old classics. I love "42". My favorite is "To Kill a Mockingbird". "Mrs. Doubtfire" has my heart. (Figaro, Figaro, Figaro!!! [url=http://yoursmiles.org/h-singer.php [/url])
Mary Inner ear infections don't hurt, they just cause vertigo and nausea. Usually vertigo is caused by a virus and lasts 2-3 days, but there are other possible causes. Epley maneuvers may or may not help. It depends on whether the problem is viral inflammation of the inner ear nerve, or if the vertigo is actually being caused by crystals out of place. Because you swing kettle bells, it could be either. If you begin to get ringing and/or hearing loss, see a doctor immediately as steroids may be necessary to preserve your hearing. I like Bonine better than Dramamine because it is chewable, and thus easier to take a smaller dose if it makes you too sleepy (just chunk off a bit and throw the rest away). I hope you are better by the time you read this! p.s. the orange picking sounds heavenly!
Machka 19 years left to work? Are you planning to work until you are 70? I forgot how old you are. Gosh, I hope you love your work and find it fulfilling.
Terry LOL!!! I think 27 is a perfect age! Your daughter needs someone who will be able to keep up with her. A younger man is a bonus. I do hope you will have grandchildren. I can't imagine my life without mine now. There was a time when I was pretty sure I wouldn't have any. Now I have 3, with a 4th due in April. (((Hugs)))
Sharon I think Jheri is an enormously talented artist. I am not surprised that the gallery is so enthusiastic. So excited for her! She deserves recognition.
Lisa I look forward to your blog every day. I love your perspective on things. Thanks for the Microsoft Onenote idea. I am looking at it and may download it.
Rye Gorgeous library. And I love the cat in the bag. Sorry about the refrigerator dilemma.
Barbara Oregon Happy Birthday!!!
Lanette It's hard to help loved ones sometimes. You want to respect your husband's autonomy but you know him so well, and if he tends to minimize & deny, the doctor won't have all of the pertinent information needed. Ugh. Hard to know if it's interdependence or enabling sometimes. You just have to trust your instincts.
Rori Girl Scout Council in Puerto Rico? Can you PM me with where & how to donate, please?
SueBDew So scary about choking. (((Hugs))) Keep us posted as your emotions evolve so we can help/support you. Facing your own mortality is a watershed moment.
Yesterday was the anniversary of my mother's death in 2001. I was sad, but kept myself busy. She loved a good hamburger, so I ate a hamburger with the works for supper. It was delicious! I miss my mom. She was my hero.
Love,

I turn 51 in 7 days, and I may very well have to work till I'm 70!
There is no mandatory retirement age in Australia, but I will not be able to access my government Age Pension until I'm 67 ... at this point. The government is gradually moving the Age Pension out, and I feel like I'm chasing it.
I could access my super (employment pension) when I'm 60, but of course, the pension amount increases the longer I'm in the workforce.
So, at this point, I could potentially retire in 16 years ... but I figure by the time I get closer they will have moved it up to 70. There's talk about doing that.
I think it's a similar situation in Canada. So if we move there in the next few years, I'll likely be in the same boat.
And that's why I'm taking all these courses. I want to increase my options! I'd love to go to 4 days a week, earning what I am now or more, preferably more, preferably significantly more.
I don't mind working. I've been working since I was in my early teens, gradually working my way through a long list of different jobs and finally into an area I never even imagined. But I'd prefer to have a sudden windfall that would allow me to retire and travel.
However, because that's not likely to happen, I've saved up and "retired" twice already. I figured I'd do that while I could still enjoy travelling. The first time was in 2004 when I quit my job, put everything into storage, and then spent 3 months cycling around Australia. The second time was in 2012, when my husband and I quit our jobs, put everything into storage, and then spent 8 months travelling the world with our bicycles.
Oh ... my husband is 12 years older than me and his suggested retirement age is 66.5. He may decide to retire then, or may continue to work longer. We'll see what happens when we get there. But about that time, we may decide that both of us will "retire" for 8 months or a year to travel around the world again ... before I settle in to work till 70.

SueBdew- I'm sorry that you went through that scary episode! So glad you had help neat by!
KarenVa- thanks for the information! I think the vertigo is gone now. I didn't know that ear infections were not always painful. (((Hugs))) for missing your mom. I'm sure you felt close to her while you honored her with your meal
Mary from Arizona1 -
Suebdew - Gosh, what a scary experience! I'm not suprised you ate some weird stuff when you got home. So glad you had the right help! Now you are on "bonus time".
I'm reading an excellent book at the moment, that my son recommended. (He is taking his reformed life very seriously ).
The Unexpected Joy of Being Sober - by Catherine Gray. Not that I'm going completely AF , but I am being mindful about when and how I drink. It is very well written and food for thought.
Along with my AF beers I have discovered Seedlip, which is basically just distilled water infused with essences. Their marketing strategy is to make it insanely expensive ( ) but, apart from that, I am finding it delicious and the bottle and design is very elegant. Anything that cuts down on consumption is good.
I have noted that, of those of us on here who sometimes drink alcohol, it is often the older members who enjoy it the most. Our generation, I guess.
My knee is stiff and a bit sore today from my kettlebell swings yesterday. Boo! I can't run anyway because it is still really snowy out, so I will row or recumbent cycle for my bonus pm calories. It's so annoying that the swings affect my knee. I should just take the time to strap it beforehand.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxx

Good Morning,
Getting an early morning check in before paperwork.
Ooops! I thought Woo was shocking. Like shaking my head shocking, awful shocking. Sorry ladies! I will avoid that one from now on.
Leenora- Hugs on your situation too. I still can't believe how nasty people get with each other. They aren't entitled to what they don't earn.
Rori- Congratulations again. Looks like folks took your request seriously, which is fabulous. I have been saying for years that I want either a treadmill or elliptical. That rowing machine sounds neat too. My DH says I won't use it consistently, so no. So circles around the house it is.
Machka- I understand the paperwork dilemma. I either need more files or less papers. Actually like the idea of a temporary secretary. That might work considering what you want done. I have been in the process of better organizing and purging for a few years. Usually it was spurred by visits with my Mom who is a hoarder. Other times, it is inspired by frustrations over finding something. They keep moving the retirement age in the states too! I figure at this rate I will be working until I am 85. Maybe not the crazy hours, but definitely working in some capacity. I love the impulsiveness of time off to bike. That is awesome!
Michele and Katie- I gave up soda 9 years ago due to health issues. Turns out the soda had nothing to do with the gallbladder, but I really can't stand the taste anymore. Every so often it sounds great, so will take one drink, then hand to someone else or throw away. Tea, coffee, and water are my go to. I also tend to not do the bun on a few things.
Michele- Have fun today. One of these days I might make it there. My sisters really like visiting there. I too had a receipt mess up. Went to dinner and had a coupon for a free meal. Also had gift cards. They didn't take off my free meal. Thought something was wrong, but couldn't decipher the bill. The next morning I took it back to the restaurant and spoke with a manager. Indeed I was correct. It was a $15 mistake plus the extra tip. The manager gave me a certificate for $25 for my inconvenience. Wow! I was impressed. Also out of my comfort zone as I tend to avoid conflict.
Mary- that sounds like fun!
Sharon- Congratulations on your DD's show. That is awesome!
Karen- Sending hugs your way. Wonderful way to remember her.
Ladies- have a blessed day with wise choices and movement.

Morning dear friends~ Slept well .. the monsoon is upon us,,, have to get DGD on bus and then feed DFIL and then come home wash my hair and go get my eye exam, DS wants to stay here overnight because of the weather, I said yes..5

Good morning all! Happy Friday! I feel like I just wrote those words a couple of days ago; this week just blasted by me! I am feeling much better. When I woke with a sore throat the other day, I began with the meds and it is pretty much gone, now. Yea! Fingers crossed it stays away.
Barbara-Happy belated birthday!
Lanette- Yes, that has been our weather this week! March in like a lamb; the lion will be here over the weekend, though. I think I can officially say, I am tired of winter, now, since it's March.
Michele- Have you tried looking up cake decorating videos on YouTube? They have a TON of them. Unless you wanted to get into a class and have all of the tools that you may not have at home so you can practice before you go out and plunk a good amount of money down, for all of the tips and stuff. Just a thought.
Machka-Do you have on online community in your area? Example; my area has a site called Grand Haven Informed, and it is people asking all kinds of questions like "Is there anyone locally who is a professional organizer?" And the locals all reply with their recommendations. If I were closer, I'd be there in a heartbeat to help you. I love to put things where they need to be. I am with you on the years of work ahead. Last year, for a short time, I thought I may be able to go to part time work in 10-15 years (which would put me at 60-65). But, with my DH not working, and the possibility of him not finding work due to his health, I am thinking I will be working full time until at least 70-75. We will not be able to think about comfortable retirement or travel until the house is paid off.
Suebdew - Omigoodness! I am so glad you are okay! How scary! Happy you had nurses nearby to assist!
News on the knee. My knee is getting better! Not sure if it is the weight coming off, the turmeric capsules I am taking (this is week four of the capsules), not wearing the brace any more, or what; for whatever reason the swelling is almost gone and I have almost complete range of motion in my knee. I was able to make it up a full flight of stairs (twice) while stepping up with that left leg (rather than stepping up with the right and pulling the left leg up beside it)! I think the stairs excited me more than anything! I was thinking about it last night and it was just six months ago that I was doing squats, taking long five mile walks, and taking stairs at a jog. It feels like forever ago; and I will never take those things for granted again! I got a warning from DH when I mentioned how good my knee felt. He looked at me sternly and said "Don't go trying to do five mile walks or squats, already!" lol He knows me well. But he is right. I need to ease back into that. For now, just going to walk a mile with the kids each nice day.
Well, kids arriving! Ten more hours and my work week is done! Whoot! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)9 -

Not that I know of. But one thing I did discover is that my university has an employment service where employers can post jobs for students. That might be an option! I will check into it.
Funny thing ... my father also offered to help for the price of a flight to Tasmania! Not sure if he is serious or not.
Sometimes I think I might be able to go parttime after my husband retires, but I'm just not confident about the finances. However, we are saving like mad, and he's topping up his employment pension each pay period, and I might start doing the same. So ... we'll see.
I'm glad to hear your knee is feeling better.
