(((Becca))) Thinking of you both and hope all goes exceedingly well.
Sue in WA: I hope your DH tolerates his knee manipulation well and it doesn't cause him too much pain. On another topic, I knew that the scotch broom was brought in but didn't know the highway department was responsible. They've been working at getting rid of it for years and there is getting to be less. Thank goodness. I'm allergic to the blooms and it made me miserable every spring for years. I consider it a noxious weed and I think many others think so, too.
Machka: Happy Birthday in Canada and in Australia. I wish you happiness in both countries and everywhere else you choose to go.
Barbie: I hope Jake's surgery is successful and improves his quality of life.
I've had some calls from DD lately and she is hoping to move back to Oregon one of these days. I share that wish I hope it comes true. Keeping my fingers crossed that it eventually happens.

Hello ladies. It's a little late for me tonight. Looked up my name, it is derived from the Old French masculine name Joose, also derived from the Latin name Judoc meaning Lord. So I have a title here! Lord Joyce!
JanetR, congrats on your son being engaged. You will have to makec a very special egg for them. This could even start a new line for you!
Becca, sounds like you have a plan. Will you have people visiting you? If you have prior knowledge of them coming, could you have them bring you a hot meal? The hospitals here have a guest meal. They start at 2 dollars and go up to 5. You can order anything on the menu or all that is on the menu. I only ordered a couple of them when Charlie had his miningitiis and I just didn't want to leave his bedside. The walk downstairs to the cafeteria is long but you get to see the same people every time and it's always nice to see a smile when you are there a long time. I know when I was working, we were always proud of the cashier in our cafeteria. She was so friendly to everyone, remembered what people said about themselves, would ask about loved ones, etc. But you did get a lot of steps getting there. And going to the cafeteria, you could purposefully take the long way once you got to the first floor. I never did after I got my food. If I ate in the cafe, I would but if I was going straight back to his room, I wanted my food to be hot. But the guest meals were really the same cost and sometimes better. The same people that bring the patients their meal brought my meal and I paid them. If I needed change they brought it back.
No change on my fingers. It it isn't time yet so I just sit here and bide my time.
I hope everyone stays safe in the storms. We are supposed to have snow showers tonight.
Well Mozart did it. Christina got him a tall cat condo for Christmas. He loves it but likes to pretty much run up the three levels to get to the top. The condo isn't real stable so as he is running up, it is a little unstable and does wobble. So today the condo tips over. It did land on him just a little bit but he is OK. So since it is so big and heavy, we just left it where it is since it is totally out of the way. So poor Mozart has been trying to climb all over it on the floor.

Snowing like mad here but forecast says will turn to rain later uggh thought we'd seen the last of it.
Happy birthdays to all March girls, it's DH 77th birthday today never know what to get him as he is so not materialistic. The kids go mad when they ask and he says just a card, he told our son a bar of milk chocolate. He never used to eat sweet stuff, must be an age thing, not good when I need to resist biscuits and sweets.
BECCA and BARBIE hope all goes well for your DH
Was going to gym but will exercise at home

Marcelyn We have the same tree situation here. I am lazy though and would mulch the spring leaves also if the mower had been running Saturday.
Okie in the TX Hill Country
I definitely mulch and compost the spring leaves and everything throughout the summer. I have a three compartment compost bin I built and it works wonderfully but these dratted live oaks just don't decompose do they! Hopefully it won't rain until tonight and I'll get some more done. Wet leaves don't blow and I use a blower to get them corralled into a big pile to bag. If they are wet I end up raking them out of the grass instead of just into the bags.
But it looks like rain.....
I have Yard Envy for one of my neighbors. He has all of his perennial beds designed so that he can mulch/mow the leaves in the fall - in place. He mulches his whole yard with his mower as the leaves fall and throughout the year as appropriate. I'm sure he trims certain things back as they go dormant to avoid shredding ornamentals rather than just mulching. He doesn't get rot, his yard is gorgeous, and the few things that don't tolerate mulch (iris), he keeps in a separate area or just doesn't plant at all. My goal is to get all the obstacles in my perennial beds out of the way so I can emulate him.

Happy March Birthdays!
Janetr Thank you so much for sharing that story. Such strength and resilience in the face of tragedy. Wow. Just wow. And your grandson is adorable. A teddy bear.
Rye and Heather I yearn for the day when I can again say to the mirror: "Hello there, Karen! So glad to see you again! I'm looking forward to getting reacquainted!"
I am under so much stress on a day-to-day basis because of work, figuring out how to transition out of work & how to downsize, and other s#!t, that it takes a toll on my sleep, exercise, food choices, etc. I am not satisfied with how this is all going. I need to do micro-actions; that has worked so well for me with other really hard stuff recently.
Today is International Women's Day! McDonalds is turning their "M" upside down in honor of the day! It's kinda cool!
Happy Women's Day, my friends!

Dang, Allie - hope all's OK on your end. Thinking about you, kiddo.
Karen - micro actions. Yes. That's where I'm at right now. Series of micro actions. I brought my exercising down to 20 minutes on the under-desk elliptical six days a week. Every other exercise I've tried, doing it even two days in a row is either too painful, or I just simply won't. Call it lazy, overworked, whatever, I simply won't do long bouts of exercise regularly unless I'm not working at all. It's the only time I ever have. But this--this is something I can do in whatever clothes I happen to be in, without annoying prep. I literally rest my feet on the dang thing throughout my day... so starting to move my feet is a no-brainer. I let the "time to take a shower" thought trigger me to it each morning, and it's working...
And the change in my diet, over to the high lean protein, low-to-no-carb, makes for easy choices. Now the micro-action of not making bad choices, like the handful of chocolate chips last night after dinner, is the next thing. It will help when I can control my environment again.

Snowed in.....safe and warm, we've got electricity and heat, others in my community are not so lucky. Gonna spend the day cleaning and maybe a youtube exercise video.

Happy Thursday ladies,
Lanette, hope the PT job works out for you. I know what you mean about missing out on grandkids. I only have the one DD who is 35 this year and no man or kids in sight.
Yvonne, my name is not Teresa so it’s hard to say what my name means. I do know that my mother got the name from the film and tv actress Terry Moore (born 1929). She claimed to be Howard Hughes’ secret legal wife.
Becca, good for you on losing the 3lbs and getting the 3 beads. That bracelet is really coming together. Sounds like you have a plan for when you are dealing with your DH surgery next week. Good for you. Come here as often as you can so we can help you through this stressful time. ((Hugs))
Janet, handsome GS.
Heather, I can only imagine how hard it is to open yourself to others through your book. So glad to hear your DH had positive feedback.
Lisa, sorry to hear that you are having trouble living in the moment. Fear of the unknown is always one of my strongest fears. I always think of this saying “If you have one foot in the past and one foot in the future, you’re Pi$$ing on the present.”
Laura and Machka, hope your special day is wonderful
Barbie, sending good thoughts for Jake’s surgery. ((Hugs))
Joyce, I was hoping that you would have some finger relief but it doesn’t sound like that is happening. But you seem to be keeping your spirits up which is amazing. Hang in there girl.
Karen, wish I had a green thumb but my dad’s green thumb went o my sister. Deep breaths. Micro-actions work for me too.
Allie, sorry your power went out. That’s the pits. Stay warm. You must have gotten the snow we were supposed to get. We only got about 4”.
NYKaren, wish I was snowed in. But here I am at work. DH and I were hoping for a day at home.
Take care ladies, Terry in VT

We are so fortunate to have not lost power or had trees damage due to this second storm in a week. Some of my colleagues are on day 5 of no electricity in their homes One decorative tree is leaning over our driveway but I don't think it will be a giant problem, fingers crossed. The snow was incredibly heavy, we were so smart to go out last night at 8 p.m. to shovel, it is twice as heavy and icy this morning. DH trudged off to work as I rolled over under the cozy covers, he was green with envy
So now I am tackling tasks, one little step at a time. I'm making broth, cut up some chicken for dinner and set aside lasagna in the freezer. Just have to continue my deep cleaning chores so I don't feel like a lazy slug all day (I'm interspersing my tasks with being a lazy slug )
NYKAREN10 -
Allie: Stay warm and conserve your batteries. :flowerforyou:
NYKaren: Electricity and heat can turn a miserable snow day into a pleasant one. I'm happy you're doing so well. :flowerforyou:
Pip: I love your dog portraits. Keep 'em coming!
We have haircuts today. Yay! I need one--I'm turning into a shaggy dog. I also have yoga today and I'm all dressed and ready to go even though the class is about three hours from now.

Happy International Women's Day!
Today the world celebrates us! "Women’s Day celebrates women’s history, highlighting key events, milestones and achievements, and aims to further promote and raise awareness of women’s rights and to achieve equal opportunity status in all walks of life." And some history: "The first few Women’s Days were celebrated in a quite different fashion than they are nowadays, with hundreds of demonstrations taking place in Europe. During these demonstrations, women demanded they finally be given both the right to vote and to hold public office. Employment sex discrimination was also an important issue. In 1917, the Women’s Day demonstrations in Saint Petersburg, Russia, helped initiate the February Revolution, when women marched through the city demanding an end to World War I. This shocked even Leon Trotsky, who, much like other Russian leaders of the day, did not expect the Women’s Day protests to cause that much of a stir. Until 1977, Women’s Day was celebrated mainly in socialist countries. It was only after the United Nations General Assembly’s decision to proclaim March 8th International Women’s Day that the holiday gained worldwide popularity."
Terry - Your cousin and his wife are in my heart. It must be awful to watch a partner going through that and to be so helpless to "fix it." And I hope your kitty gets better quickly with the new meds.
Rita - Before I moved to New Mexico my year-round allergies were absolutely horrible. They were bad the first year or two after we moved, and I had new issues with asthma as I acclimated to the aridity and altitude. After that they went away entirely and have stayed away until the last year or two. Now I just have some mild seasonal allergies. Guess you have to stay there awhile for that magic to work - sorry you are still having trouble!
Evelyn - I also like to have something sweet after dinner. I like the original no-sugar-added Popsicle fudsicles and pudding cups too. Nothing articially sweetened - I don't eat any fake sugar - but both treats have sugar and calorie levels that I can fit into my daily meal plan.
Katla - My mom was also Camille, which is why I've always been Yvonne.
Becca - Great idea to stock up on healthy snacks ahead of time so you'll have good choices available when you're "wandering" around the hospital. That's a wonderful way to take care of YOU while you're taking care of him too. So glad you have each other.
Rye - Spinach is so versatile! I made a spinach frittata the other night when I hadn't done a meal plan yet. I put it on pasta. I use it in place of lettuce on sandwiches. I put it in smoothies. Popeye was onto something!
Janet - Goodness, what shape is he aiming for?! Your grandson looks pretty fit already!
Heather - How wonderful that your husband turned out to be a good first reader! I can understand how vulnerable it would feel to share your work like that.
Pip - You could knit a puppy with all that golden hair!
Sue - Augh, why are so many men such bad patients?!
We have tickets to see A Wrinkle in Time tomorrow at noon, and then I'll be picking up a passenger and heading for Bryan/College Station. This weekend-long reunion of old friends has turned into an annual thing. (We also get together the weekend before Thanksgiving, and have been doing that for 30 some-odd years.) So fortunate to have a group of dear friends who've managed to stay together since our college days despite our differences. My passenger is one of the second generation of that group.
My hotel is in downtown Bryan, which is very walkeable. That'll be to my advantage in off-setting the extra calories related to the weekend festivities! We're kind of pondering buying a house there - to rent for now and then live in when Philip is ready to retire - so it'll give me a chance to wander the area and explore.
All of you in the north, stay warm!
