Joyce ... For years I complained that my husband didn't communicate with me ... he just dumped his work day on me or got frustrated when I talked too much. But the table has turned. I am very busy and out of the house with our OS ...
and with the hearing loss ... even when home ... I don't hear or listen unless the conversation is very intentional. And guess what? Someone now accuses me of not communicating! LOL! We have taken to texting "good morning" after we get to work and like Machka I send emails when necessary.
Heather ... you are an inspiration! On the BP, I get white coat syndrome as well. My doctor knows this and now doesn't bother with a BP when I first come in. I have a habit of talking and kidding around a lot during an appointment, so they wait until almost the end of our appointment to take my BP. That has been working well.
Pip ... did you mention wind?
Dana ... I am so jealous of your blooming dogwoods ... all we have here is snow and more snow!
Wendy ... at first I thought it was a photo of you! If your daughter doesn't snag an engagement from her young man with that dress, then he must be blind. Wowzers!!
I am cooking and cleaning in preparation of my son coming home today ... flying in late. One of his flights is already delayed so hoping that he makes all of his connections. Karen NY ... praying your daughter has safe travels home today as well.

Wow, so many posts in 2 days. it's nice to catch up on what everyone is doing. My life is pretty boring right now. I'm on spring break but not doing anything useful. I have to go grocery shopping today, bleh. I can't believe how few groceries I buy now and still throw stuff out. I'm amazed at that.
It's beautiful and sunny here and I might take a walk this afternoon. Just sort of a short one, but on top of the cross trainer it adds up (I plan to get on that thing today!). I have to get my blood sugar back under control; it's been high lately. I haven't exercised in who knows how long, so that really does me in.
I still feel like I am just spinning my wheels here. I have so much I need to do and so much I could do, and even more that I want to do, that I just don't do anything. It's sort of paralyzing. I make plans, I make lists, but just don't do any of it. I don't feel depressed, just overwhelmed. Choices have never been a strong suit of mine LOL.
One of DD#2's best friends from high school goes to school at my college, so she came over yesterday so I could help her with her first care plan (the bane of all nursing students everywhere). It was pretty fun. She's a nice girl. DD#2 was texting with her and she finally responded "Stop texting me! Mama B is helping me with homework!". It was pretty funny.
DD#2 says she will go with me to CO this June. I sure hope so. I don't really want to make that drive by myself. We will be staying at DH's cousin's house. I think I told you she found out and started texting me about him. It worked out ok, no more hotels and she's very close so she will visit fairly often which will give him a break.
Well I had best get going or nothing will be done again today! Take care all, Meg from sunny Omaha7 -
How lovely is this.!!!!!!

Well, we went ahead and moved our deposit over to a home in the city of Fort Smith. It looks good from the outside, and whatever the rest turns out to be, we're pretty adaptable. The size is right, it has a "sunroom" that I can hopefully use for an office, and enough room so that, if the son collapses again, we have a place for him to come, and still have our own private bathroom (priorities!). It's in a quiet neighborhood, no houses behind it, fenced back yard, and plenty of room in the front to park the panel trailer and both vehicles, as well as a garage for storage. So...we have a place to go again... which is a weight off. Here's the image: It looks sturdy, and bright, and I have great hopes for it being a good place for us... but as someone else said, it will at least be just us. For a while, and hopefully for the whole year if the son does well. Keep a good thought!
Here are my good thoughts - in a city, it should be no issue to get electricity going, broadband Internet, and all the things that cost money, but make life a little better. Unlike the country, which has it's little hiccups along those lines! That's my story, and I'm sticking to it!

Love the house, Lisa.
Did not sleep well last night but had to be up at 6 to shower and get dressed before the woman from the glass company came at 7 to measure for our shower door. This is going to be our dream bathroom when finished.
Today’s workout was legs. We did wall sits, bring sally up squat challenge, step ups 3 different ways, floor work, planks, and abs.
I can barely keep my eyes open. I think it’s time for a nap.6 -
I'm home!
Crazy trip that ended up in more locations than I planned, but it needed to be done.
I made a detour to see the estate lawyer and was very glad I did. The lawyer's assistant is also his wife. She tends to try not to bother him and ends up making strange decisions. She was not going to include dad's checking account money $47k in the estate because she had not proof where it all came from. Since when do we need an explanation on a checking account??
I went to the bank myself & got a cheque for the total and closed the damn account! The cheque is now in the hands of the lawyer, even though he said I could run to an offshore island with it if I like!!
The whole legalitize in Alberta for mines and minerals are nuts. We might have to abandon an oil well that is still producing because none of us live in Alberta. Unless a resident, you can not own.
There are 26 other descendants waiting for me to get this all figured out. Dad passed 5 years ago now. I certainly had not expected this degree of red tape and legal mumbo jumbo!
At any rate, I am frustrated with the recommended calorie amounts on this site. Starting next week, you will not see the posts for me being under my allotment, most likely because i will be too far under. I do not loose weight with these numbers. I need to be under 1200 for sure. I like recording my exercise and food honestly. I may have a faster metabolism come summer.

We had a nice visit in their home in Calgary

I just joined MFP, a senior in my 60's, diabetic and living in the Houston area. Talk about the variety of restaurants serving the best cuisine and it doesn't stop there. This city is diversed full of richness and cultures that fill the city with excitement. Currently it is Rodeo Houston. People pumped up to be part of the energy it brings, with entertainment, shopping, livestock, amusement rides, cook-offs and the best barbecue you can eat. Even the weather has been great with temps in the 70's.
I was introduced to MFP by my son as great way to track daily food intake and exercise. However, my most exciting discovery after a week was my daughter who also uses MFP told me how to use the scanner tool. Wow! is it a time saver.
My goal for this month is to definately track every morsel that goes in my mouth. Talk about an eye opener. The calories, carbs, fat, sodium, protein intake has really made me take a hard look of changes I have to make. Yes, over the years I have tried every mentionable diet under this planet. Some worked great and I did lose the weight. But it didn't take long to fall back to over eating, fast foods and just giving up.
What has changed you ask? Well, time is getting away from me and I have to plan for what I want for the future. I want to be able to someday retire and be able to enjoy it. I do not want to settle for aches and pains due to bad health, bad choices and unhealthy eating. I want to enjoy time with my family, friends, to travel and to enjoy time at home. I need to rejuvenate myself into a better, healthier life style.
Now that we have access to a database full of recipes you can retrieve on Pinterest, You Tube, Facebook and the internet, searching for healthy recipes are easier to find, prepare and share. Finding recipes with less carbs, sugar and healthier recipes has become so much easier and meals I've tried have been quite delicious. This week I did not have any fast food, my meals were filled with more veggies, fruits and less meats. My blood sugar shows the rewards and I am on the right track. Challenge next week is vacation with the grandkids. I can do it...I will do it...I will.
I invite you to share some of your favorite recipes as I will with you. Discovery of the week was Zuchini Boats recipes on Pinterest, filled with deliciousness. Next I will try cauliflower taco shells.9 -

If you have Netflix, recommend watching the French version of Beauty and the Beast. Beautiful cimenatography and a well told storyline. Very different from the Disney version.4 -

I really like the support here in this group. The community. I want to participate more and I will.
February was a really tough month for me and my family and March isn't looking any better. Lost a dear uncle in February. One of my favorite people in the world. Mother's last surviving sibling. She had 7 sisters and 4 brothers - all gone ahead of her. 8 younger than her. Mother and I traveled out of town for the funeral. Stayed a few days with family and came home. Mama (91) had bronchitis. With meds she's recovered nicely, But blood labs show she's critically low in potassium. So... she's on potassium supplement now.and I'm seeing improvements in her already.
I got sick with a virus a few days after getting Mana to her doctor. Apparently post Hurricane Harvey conditions created lots of nasty new viruses. I haven't been sick in four years. No allergies. Not even a sniffle. 2 weeks later - I'm still struggling with remnants or allergies.
Then March came... Mama fell. Bruised her foot badly. But it seems to be almost back to normal. And now... my dear brother-in-law who has been in our family as long as I can remember... He's been our rock. An anchor. Always there for us.... he's been battling leukemia for about 2 years. His heart is damaged. And he says he's ready for God to take him. He's moving to palliative care today. I'm just heart-broken for my sister and niece - and my family. In tears today.
Just felt like I needed to write these thoughts out and share them, some how it feels like a bit of release.

Welcome OBLAKE1954! What shall we call you? Inquiring minds want to know...LOL
Kelly ~ I was one of those kids who had a late August birthday and got thrust into firs grade after never having any preschool experience and never having been around a lot of other children (grew up outside of town on a dairy farm). At the end of the year, it was finally realized that I didn’t know how to read and had memorized all of the Dick and Jane stories. I had to have a tutor in second grade to teach me to read.
Barbie ~ It sounds as though you have every bit of your trip to the hospital well planned. Hope the operation for Jake is successful.
Becca ~ Good thoughts for you as you once again go through a trying time at the hospital with your husband and praying for success.
Lisa ~ It sounds as though your rental was not meant to be. Keeping fingers crossed that something better comes up. I don’t see how they could clean it up in a week. It took us months to get our rental cleaned when the last tenant moved out. Edit: I see you have acquired another rental and it looks great.
Wendy ~ Your beautiful daughter has a beautiful dress to wear.
Husbands ~ Mine starts to tell me something and then just quits in mid-sentence. He often says that he has discussed somthing with me and it is beyond me. I messaged Joyce on Facebook and told her our husbands must be brothers from another mother. LOL
Lady Laura ~ Cute granddaughter. Know you will be glad when the estate is settled.
Carol from GA where the weather is like a COLD Spring day.

hidee ho ladies~
today I went around to banks today... for my dads accounts... he is overdrawn at one by 501.00 which to close we have to pay back... and the other banks he no longer has accounts in,,, so we still have to round up 1200.00 to pay for the retainer for probate attorney.. it is just undaunting .. Oh well.. whatever you do dont be like my dad, get your affairs in order, have it somewhere where a family member has access.. believe you me I will be doing this for sure10 -
Ginger, my heart breaks for you.....
Wendy, your daughter looks stunning! (not hard to see the resemblance!)
Kylia, LOL @ fatter vs faster!
Angie, where in BC are you? I'm on Vancouver Island!
Heather, you truly are an inspiration, as are so many ladies on here! And by listening to your stories, I know I can do this too!
Becca and Barbie, thinking of you and your DH's! Sounds like you both have everything prepared and planned for, hoping that both surgeries go well.
Lisa, was going to say that because that first house got pulled from the market, it must mean there is something better out there for you, but I see you found another one already. Don't know what the inside looks like, but the outside looks just fine! And it is only temporary, so unless it's a complete dump, which doesn't seem likely, not with the outside looking in good shape.
Had a good few days, then got overwhelmed by cravings last night! Had been craving popcorn for several weeks, finally gave in, which wasn't too bad, but then washed it down with cookies. That's okay, back on the wagon today!
Remarkable weigh in on Wed, down 1.8 lbs! Definitely a happy dance happening!
Signed up for a kettlebell class on Wed afternoons, went the first day, there were only two of us signed up, so the trainer did that class but then I got a call Thurs a.m. that the class has been cancelled. Grrrr..... Oh well, what will be will be! Just means I won't have to come up with as much money for my next TRX session as I just left a credit on my account.
Hugs to those needing them, congrats to those who have had victories and welcome to any newbies that I (probably!) missed!

DJ, where have you been???? I’ve been missing you.
Ginger, hugs and condolences to you and all you are going thru. My sweet Mama is dealing with similar losses - two brothers in 3 weeks, one of whom had been in hospice care at her house for 9 months. It seems that 2018 has been nothing but non-stop deaths and/or strokes around here.
I did have a nap, but it didn’t help. Ugh!7 -
Thanks for the welcome from auntiebk and Katla.
My2ruself, I too am new and I found the easiest way to find this page was the star in the upper right hand corner and click book mark the page.
Its Friday, yeah. So far I have managed to hit my goals every day. I wanted to get my steps in and I managed that goals every day. It is snowing here in Ontario, yet again, but that did not stop me and I did get out walking.
How are the bites Machka? You can purchase benadryl ointment which helps with swelling and itchiness. I always keep a tube on hand for insect bites during the summer.6 -
Laura, I shut off all the automatic news feed stuff. If I want anyone to know about my calories in or calories out, I write a short message about it. Once you've been doing this for awhile, you learn what works and you keep doing it.
Barbie4 -
Allie, you are absolutely right about getting affairs in order! I was lucky with my dad as he had already paid for his final requests and I had been doing his banking for several months so that was also up to date. My name was also already on his bank account so once I showed up at the bank with the will and death certificates (had to bring mom's also as the will was from one to the other, then to me) the transferred to me without any problems. I know that, because I'm in Canada and you're in the US, there would be different laws, but there are ways to make our loved ones lives easier! Hubby and I have already paid for our cremations and final resting spot and we have told our oldest where all the paperwork lives.

Did Zuka Power Cardio Disc 1 DVD. Boy, is that an intense workout! The plan for tomorrow is to do the Melt it Off Cardio DVD.
Heather - I'm sure you're a great help to people who are discouraged, just knowing that there are ups and downs certainly makes me feel better.
Lisa - so sorry to hear about the house. But happy about the one in Fort Smith!!! Wow ! Looks like a real beauty. I've always liked ranches
I'm in charge of getting a magician to perform for the Newcomers. I have things already set up with him. He performed for us a few years ago, but in that time he has really come up in the world. I'm happy for him for that. Anyway, about the venue, we used another one before and we've always had problems so I remembered that a few years ago I was helping the Newcomers have an event at this other place and to my surprise they said "we'll throw in the room for free". When we returned from FL I confirmed with the gal that the room would be included and she said (I think) "as long as you have a member in good standing". Well, she knows that this one guy is in good standing. But last night, for the first time ever, I got heart palpitations, I couldn't sleep, I lost all appetite (well, I guess there's a silver lining...). This morning I could see my hands shaking. I'm just concerned about this. We won't be able to meet with her to get the contract until this Thursday. I don't want to be this way until then. So...I've asked the gal to at least email me something stating that the room fee is included. Hopefully, that'll put my mind at ease. Maybe my problem is that I'm getting involved in too many things. Volunteering at the Green Room, ceramics, mahjongg, Rummikub (requesting the host, sending out the notice), bowling (which I help Vince with), volunteering at the church, having the March board meeting at our home, securing the conference room for our Board Meetings, now adding this. It was so very relaxing in FL, wish I was there without any worries, but that's not possible. I did have to get things covered for me (like the hospitality for Newcomers). But, really, this isn't all that much extra. So why am I so anxious?
Elaine - welcome! Yea for being cancer free!
We actually had to fight to keep Denise back a year in kindergarten. We didn't feel she was ready, but the teachers supposedly did (or did they just feel they should push her thru?)
"various DH's who do not take good care of their health." Now my dh is just the opposite. The first sign of a sneeze, and he's at the doctor's
Angie - you should be worried about reinjuring your shoulder. Totally understandable. Good for you taking it easier. Congrats on the loss
Picked up two prescriptions for Vince and ran into a neighbor of mine. She's agreed to sign for the room for the magician. Now I just hope she goes thru with it.
Olivia - welcome! I can't get over how many restaurants there are in Hickory. Most of them serve Southern cooking food (yuk). Isn't logging an eye opener? I never in my widest dreams imagined that sweet potatoes had as many calories in them as they do. But they are good (and good for you) Congrats on the no fast food! Pretty soon you won't want it at all. I had a cauliflower pancake at this restaurant, and was it ever good!

Barbie and Becca: Add me to all the others holding good thoughts for your DHs, and especially for you.
Lisa: Glad a new house was found so quickly.
Rye: So sorry to hear about your kitty. Hope he gets well soon. He's absolutely beautiful.
Katla: Thought of you when I saw on tv a woman who is recognized as the oldest living yoga instructor. She's 90, and looks incredible!
((Ginger))
((Meg))
Heather: I went alcohol free for 16 months in support of my brother who was diagnosed with severe liver issues. I imbibed while on our Mexican cruise, but have been AF ever since. Feels great, although, now I notice how prevalent drinking is in our society. Like Wendy, I drink kombucha instead. So many varieties popping up in stores and even on tap at restaurants. Can you please PM with titles of AF-related books you recommend?
Everyone in path of the Noreasters-- take care!
On communication with DHs- Mine likes to talk and has always been more thoughtful and sensitive than me. However since developing dementia, conversation is a challenge. I recently instituted an intentional stop around 10 AM and declare 'coffee and snack time'. We put on a TV program that is about animals, travel or history and spend 30 minutes just enjoying and making whatever comments come to mind. It's a whole new exercise for me, and a good mental shift for him.
Meanwhile, week one of retirement was busy! Home and Garden Show yielded some great leads for fireplace contractors, and I've already had one come by to inspect our place and provide advice. I have cleared out about 95% of my office, and will have the rest done before the painter starts on Sunday. Had the notary public come over today to witness my pension paperwork signatures and also walk DH through assigning me Power of Attorney. And, best of all, booked a holiday starting on Monday. We will take the railroad over the Rockies to the town of Glenwood Springs for 3 days/2 nights at the Hotel Colorado, a historic property. This town built it's reputation on giant pools fed by natural hot springs. There is also an adventure park with caves to explore and fast rides. Got a great deal on a package from AAA, and the weather is supposed to be a comfortable. Can't wait.
After taking all of February off, getting back into the gym was a challenge. Amazing how fast conditioning regresses. Good news is it's coming back and the scale is moving down again. Oh, and Mars the leash-loving cat is getting an extra walk every day so his mama can add more steps on the fitbit.
Tomorrow, DH and I get our vision exams. Then, it's back to purging, sorting, storing and shredding paper and artifacts that have been accumulating in the closet of my office. Ugh.
Stay well, friends. We can do this.

Hi ladies,
Sneezed and deleted post. D@!&* phone! Over 13,000 steps today! Already had burned my calories by the time I got home from work, hit step goal while cooking dinner, still hadn't hit exercise minutes, so walked some more!
Welcome to the newcomers. Peace and hugs to those in need. Congrats to all! I am on page 19. I will get there!
