I have been on paleo for almost a year and now Im slowly transitioning to keto + IF. I feel great but socializing is a huge issue with my dietary habits. Anyone got any advice for that?1

In experimental data, "n" represents the number of subjects in any given study. So, n=1, is practically a self experiment and bears no objective data that can be applied to anything else outside of that since there is no control group to simultaneously measure data against or compare during the trial.
It's anecdote. And basically lends itself for people to haphazardly fling around the statement, "it worked for me" which is great for them. Too bad it doesn't mean anything to anyone else.1 -

Yes! It is the only thing that worked for me. Health problems have essentially disappeared. Yes, it's hard and "restrictive" but its restrictive in that it restricts things I shouldn't be eating in the first place (i.e binging a tub of ice cream or a pound of enriched white pasta). So...I dont think that's restrictive at all, lol.4

But for someone like me, I'd be restricted from more than things than large quantities of ice cream and pasta. It would be hard to fit even a single serving of pasta on the number of carbohydrates I'd be limited to, let alone the amount of fruit, vegetables, beans, and whole grains I like to eat. I can understand that certain individuals may not feel restricted on keto, but it's certainly a restricted diet. For example, the sweet potato biscuit (made with sweet potatoes and whole wheat flour) that is just a part of my planned dinner tonight would completely blow out my total carbohydrate goal for the day if I was on keto. I don't consider a single biscuit to be something that I "shouldn't" eat.5 -

I think keto works well for some people, but it restricts way more than "things I shouldn't be eating in the first place," or at least it did for me.
I was only able to consume the amount of vegetables I think is reasonable because I had a higher than usual carb limit. My own research was that under 50 g net should be low enough, and I aimed for about 60 g total (which was roughly 35 g net), which I filled almost entirely with vegetables (plus avocado), nuts and seeds, and a little dairy. I still felt like I was limiting vegetables beyond what I prefer (I eat more now, when not watching carbs, and I ate more before trying keto when I was eating around 100-120 g carbs). With the more common 20 g I see recommended, I would have been restricting vegetables much more.
Foods that I restricted even more than that were: fruit (I was not able to consume any fruit unless I cut back on vegetables, which I was unwilling to do), beans and lentils (same, with the exception of black soybeans and edamame), whole grains and tubers (you may not think roasted potatoes or sweet potatoes or oats or the like are healthful, but I do).
It was actually perfectly possible to make "keto treats" and kind of fun to try them, so I actually made more sweets than usual (with xylitol, not sugar). I still did it only rarely as they had sufficient carbs that they caused me to go over, but no more so than fruit would have (less, generally).
Beyond that, most dessert items (like ice cream) have lots of calories and fat, as well as carbs, so seeing them as the main restriction on a keto diet wouldn't be my thought -- they'd obviously be restricted with a lower cal diet (which doesn't mean you can't fit in any) or a low fat diet. In fact, one thing I did was make a non sweet cardamom ice cream (delicious, I ended up using it with coffee) and then an ice cream with a little bit of fake sweetener (okay, the texture was off). Both were high cal, but low carb.1 -

It's quite profound when you consider the advantages of being a social pariah.. I mean, you don't have to share your food, thoughts, jokes, conversations, joys, misery, etc. with anyone but yourself. Keto transcends the need for people.4 -

@fb47 I see you are relative new to MFP forums so welcome. You have noticed there are many with many different agendas posting here. Above is an example of the kinds of things that fuel my drive to walk death backwards as long as possible that I just watched tonight. It helps push the nonsense in life to the side and out of sight.
20, 30 or 40 years ago I too was able to make fun of others thinking I knew they were wrong and I was right. Life has a way of teaching us over time just how little we know about ourselves and others.
Now at 67 I relatively know less than at any point in my life. Sure after 12 years of butt in chair classroom post high school training I know/knew many facts. The funny thing is I have learned the facts often change like at what level of Vitamin D does it become toxic to humans.
Over time while I have learned a lot of info I have become aware how much more there is to learn. Even if I continue to learn until I am 110 at 110 I will relativity know less than I know and understand today.
It is fun to learn about how people lived 3000 to 15,000 years ago that is still often a mystery as to their talents. This last summer I bought a 1966 Ford 3000 diesel tractor that I am fixing up so the daughter can use it with caring for her mini horses and some day when she gets out of school she can keep it if she wishes.
I post under my real name and photo. I use a real profile that will lead anyone interested to my full resume and web tracks on different forums of very different subjects. All my posts on the different forums are as factual as possible. My MFP posts are based on science that I expect I can successfully support if required in a legal environment.
My overriding concern is that people new to MFP be helped instead of being made fun of or worse. Some people do not seem to realize the pain levels of most people are already nearing the breaking point before they come to MFP hoping against hope to find a helpful word of encouragement and helpful knowledge.

@bergeree1989 welcome to MFP forums. This is an awesome first post. I wish I had done this long before I was 63 and had wrecked my health but major long term health issues have been resolving nicely since I started the Way Of Eating Oct 2014.
I do not find it restrictive. Restrictive in my mine would be in a coffin 6 feet underground prematurely.11 -
