@xbowhunter Congrats on entering maintenance!1

That said, morning workouts have been a challenge due to my kitten who seems to have a death wish. Makes it much harder when he runs underneath me as I do push ups, tries to catch my feet in jumping lunges, leaps on my hair as my head goes up and down in ab exercises etc. Workout goals now including not squashing the cat...
Hope everyone has had a good week - happy Friday! X
We should do a video series: the Feline workout!
Me too! Lol. My Pilates instructor said my tight hamstrings required twice daily stretching. I get on my floor with the strap to do so then and my cats zoom in on me : under the strap, sitting on my chest, bumping my arms trying to get me to groom them etc. Adds some Core work to my stretches!4 -
@CoachJen71 I find it ironic that when we are trying to do something positive like “mindful eating” for a healthier body our MINDS-FILL with negative thoughts triggering behaviours that might not be healthy in other ways. Not all the time but at times it’s like a vicious cycle ahhhh3

@Faebert and @fidangul - thanks to you both for the kind words. It’s so cool to be able to show progress to like-minded people who “get it.” I showed my sister my progress pic and she was like “but it’s not that much different...”
I did manage to make my husband surprised at the progress photo when I told him I weighed more in the second photo. I had to show him my records as proof because he called bs (in fun of course).5 -

Successes/struggles of the week: I successfully made it through most of my birthday celebrations without gaining any weight.... one event left - tomorrow is a joint birthday/Mother’s day celebration with two different groups of people.
More importantly, this marks the date when I told myself I would go back to calorie counting if I couldn’t make mindful eating work. As a reminder, I stopped counting in January and struggled through the end of February before it all seemed to figure itself out. Going to continue on with the mindful eating for now...
On an unrelated note, after much deliberation, I decided to take a food allergy test - results came back yesterday concluding what I suspected... I’m allergic to wheat and brown rice as well as a few types of legumes and cheeses. Interestingly enough, the results also said I was allergic to corn flour, though I haven’t exhibited any reactions that I know of after eating corn. On the plus side, I pretty much eat fully Paleo now so I inadvertently have been avoiding those foods for the most part as part of that lifestyle.
Happy Mother’s Day and/or Furbaby Mother’s Day to those who are celebrating!
Have a great week everyone!6 -

It could work @ryenday! Some mornings he definitely thinks it’s playtime and wants to join in. Other days he looks at me with that withering way cats can have as if he’s thinking “what the kitten are you doing??” (Since I’ve got the kitten it’s a source of endless private amusement to me that it’s also the replacement swear word on here, especially when he’s annoying me...)3 -

@sofchak - it is definitely a very noticeable difference. You should definitely be proud of yourself. Interesting re the food allergies. I’ve been having some nasty bloating but can’t bear the thought of doing an elimination diet at the moment. How were you tested? Are they actual allergies or intolerances?2 -

Success/struggles of the week: Was able to drop the weird post-vacation weight spike. Did a lot more walking and trying to work with a fitbit... I find it uncomfortable and it runs out of power every day (right when I go for a walk! ). Anybody have one they like? Had a big mother's day dinner last night with the family, so today is a "recovery" day... he he he.4 -

Age: 61
Height: 5'7"
Total Weight lost: 20 lbs, but over and over
Time it took to lose: 5 months this time
How long in maintenance: 1 month and still struggling
Maintenance weight range: 125 - 130
Average weight recorded from 2017 (12months): guessing 140, max 148
Average weight recorded from January: 133 (still on .5/week loss plan)
Average weight recorded from February: 130.5 (still on .5/week loss plan)
Average weight recorded from March: 128.8 (mostly on .5/week loss plan)
Average weight recorded from April: 127.5
Week of...
29th April: 127.2 Last week: Av wt 127.6, only 2 days over 10K steps
6th May: 129.6 Last week: Av wt 128.2, 3 days over step goal including 2 nice runs
13th May 128.0 Last week: Av wt 128.9, 2 days over step goal, one elliptical workout and a half-day of gardening.
Success/struggles of the week: Most of week, still having issues with overeating. It's just lack of discipline; the feeling that now in maintenance I can "do anything I want" kindof like I did on vacation (when I was much more active).
Had a couple of successful days though including yesterday, and I feel I will be able to rein this in.8 -
I think I figured out my biggest obstacle to maintaining weight, which is what I am now trying consciously to do WELL for the first time.
I lose my 20 pounds again, and that's exciting because I feel successful and have agency and a goal and look a little better to myself all the time. Rewarding.
I get to maintenance. I still am sixty-one, and once I settle in to the weight and it doesn't feel new, I see all the flaws and don't feel rewarded by my accomplishment any more. I try to push myself to lift or to run more or whatever, and the goals feel so conflicted and conflicting I can't settle on a plan, especially with running buddy hubs down at the moment.
Then I wonder why I bother, I get stressed and emotional with work and life, and -- oh hey there's sugar!
I am starting to understand that while less exciting, maintaining is crucial. I want to learn to do this well. It doesn't give me the body of my dreams no, but it keeps me stable and healthy and more energetic and full of possibilities. Maintaining is 80% about food choices, just like losing is. THIS, I can do.8 -
@sofchak - it is definitely a very noticeable difference. You should definitely be proud of yourself. Interesting re the food allergies. I’ve been having some nasty bloating but can’t bear the thought of doing an elimination diet at the moment. How were you tested? Are they actual allergies or intolerances?
@Faebert - thanks!
RE: Allergy testing- I went through a deal on Groupon that tested my hair. The results gave me yellow/red feedback on specific foods. I would assume the yellow are my intolerances and the red are my allergies.
A bit more specifically based on personal experience- the wheat was “yellow” and wheat causes me nausea and headaches as well as inflames my psoriasis. The brown rice was “red” and ingesting that causes hives, trouble breathing, severe ear pain and swollen skin that’s painful to the touch.
The severity of the reaction appears to match the color, though I’m not sure where “intolerance” ends and “allergy” begins by definition...

@brightresolve Hang in there Beth! I always figured maintenance would be more difficult than the actual weightless phase - without all the structure, it is hard to be disciplined. Not sure if it helps, but I try to plan my days ahead of time and go so far as to fill in my food log each morning... then I just eat what I planned.4

Success/struggles of the week: Since today is a part of this week it was my sister's birthday which I did okay on during the main course but the two pieces of chocolate pie probably were a bit much. Other than this a pretty routine week
Had a good week for my morning runs - got in a little over 22 miles which I thought was good as it was my first week of early morning runs after working all night. Hoping to maintain or increase the distance slightly each week and get in some afternoon swims as well.4 -

Success/struggles of the week: I feel like I am finally maintaining. So far this year my weight has fluctuated in a 4.8 pound range, but most often it has fallen between 119. something and 120.something. So really I feel like I am maintaining a 2 pound range with some occasional fluctuations up and down. I think I am looking pretty good (at least clothed where you can't see my loose skin lol) and I feel great. On Saturday I will run my first half marathon. I am pretty excited and proud of myself. I wish that I had not waited so long in my life to become active.8 -

Glad to see my weight exactly the same as last week because I indulged... a LOT. Birthday weekend last weekend (5-6th) and then got a free catered lunch THREE times last week! (Not that I’m complaining!) to top it off I only made it to the gym three days, my goal is five. But it all worked out I guess. I did tons of yard/garden work this weekend so I probably burned a lot of calories lol5 -

I just cant seem to eat enough to reach my maintenance goal and i dont dare have too high calorie foods at home becouse then i will wolf it all down at once instead....I seem to just keep loosing weight and that is not what i want at all. My goal is to manage to be in maintenance for a while so i can feel confident in proceeding to bulking. But i just cant seem to get a hang for it....4 -

So very true!!1 -
@kgirlhart I have the same regret! Could have done dance classes or some serious long trail backpacking when I was younger and less arthritic. Now, I am at the top of the hill and looking downward. Depressing to think that things will just get worse and more limiting from here on out.2

Pick up something at a store or restaurant, single serving, of the right calorie amount.
I understand your fears. I have been bingeing a lot of late, but part of it has been being a bit too low in weight and highly active. Self-preservation has kicked in. Just do your best to balance your calories and care for yourself, and keep trying to believe that you trust yourself. That fear of food us a huge driver in bingeing. If we can take it away, it will have no power over us! *hug*1 -

Struggles / Successes: Horrible stomach virus last week, but I am better. Now I seem to want to make up for the calories I "missed" while I was ill. I'm just so thankful to be feeling good!8 -
@HarperAnn6 So sorry you were ill, but glad to hear that you are on the mend!0

@andreascjonsson Hang in there. Maintenance can be tricky at first. I had a hard time figuring out my maintenance calories and lost about 16 pounds more than my original goal. Once I lost the weight I became more active and it was hard to eat as much as I needed because there was a fear of gaining. Just keep slowly adding calories until you even out. I second @coachjen71 advice. There are still a few things I have trouble having a lot of at home (although I am getting better). Buying single serve packages or going to a restaurant or the store for one serving of a higher calorie food makes it easier to work that stuff in without going overboard. It is also helpful to make small changes. Add some butter to steamed vegetables or seeds or nuts to a salad.1
