Wow, @Elise4270 and @garygse I didn't realize we were neighbors. I am in Lewisville!3
-
Slow (intentionally) run tonight 9.58 miles. I think maybe this is best to go slow and not push myself so hard for now.

@Scott6255 Small world! Look forward to meeting at a race or group run one day.3

You guys, no. This is a bad race photo:
Who takes a picture of someone drinking water at the water stop?!? LOL
I enjoyed reading lots of answers to Elise's question.
Compared to this time year, how have you improved your fitness?
For me, it's been some ups and downs but overall a big improvement in fitness and strength and endurance in the past year. A year ago I had just finished my 3rd half marathon with a big 18 minute PR, after not being sure I was really ready to do it (having not specifically completed a training program since my first HM 6 months or so before. That was a huge confidence boost for me. Since then, 4 more HM's finished - the one I trained specifically for (Wineglass) started with falling before the start line and scraping/bruising both knees and bruising (possibly hairline cracking) ribs, but still getting a PR. And then a bad one that I wasn't fully recovered for a moth later. Two months later a better one (almost identical to my PR time again), and then one more PR last month. And a decent 19k race after that, which I threw in for fun. I just would never have been able to accomplish that amount of running a year ago for one thing. I also started a strength/hybrid circuit training program in March which has certainly kicked my butt, but I feel like it has made a huge difference, especially in endurance and how I feel in recovering. I'm just about to start marathon training and it will certainly be a test of what I think I've gained.6 -

Great question, Elise, and awesome replies everybody! So interesting to hear how things never stay the same when you're running.
A year ago, I'd just run my 5 km PB of 25:41.
Haven't beaten it yet, but since then,
I've run a HM or further 27 times, including 10 runs over 30 km and my first marathon.7 -

All I needed to recover yesterday was some food so I'm thinking I was hypoglycemic or low on electrolytes or dehydrated or something. Anyway, supper fixed me.
Tonight's run was good except a thunderstorm went thru a couple hours before I went out and it was super humid and i was soaked by 1.5km. Yuck.

Ummmm this time last year I was about to run Boulder as a “nice little 10k” the week before my first half marathon. Last week a 10k distance was over 3minutes per mile slower, with way more walking even with way easier route. There is no way I could run a half right now, even if it is all down hill. Although this time last year I was also dosing myself with ibuprofen before every run (and during on longer ones) and had a non stop swollen ankle... so I think on that front we are making some progress.
I was also about 20lbs lighter.... but I think I’m lifting more I think all my 5x5s were at about 70lbs- and even tho the not having a gym thing is putting a cramp in that, I know I’m still above that.
This is a good question for me right now in terms of finding the right goals to motivate me to do any fitnessing again.5 -
Compared to this time last year, how have you improved your fitness?
Let's see. Last May I was just getting out of a rump, ran all of 20k. Although this month it looks like I will not do too much better nominally (running plans have been sidetracked by schedule, knee problems and bad air quality), I am running, lifting, and cycling with a vengeance this time around. I also happen to be about 5kg lighter, and have finally got a trainer to fix my running form problems. Fitness-wise, I've slightly improved. Mindset-wise, I'm at such a better place now.5 -
@Scott6255 - I used to spend a lot of time in Lewisville for work...
@katharmonic - ok you win! That is pretty bad and I agree why would you even take that picture!
@sarahthes - So glad some food was all it took to make you feel better!2 -

Roll on the last 2 weeks of taper!5 -
heh... so I am house hunting and there is a house we were checking out that is near a park. Well, I asked the local trail running group about the park - and note, I did not say anything about the house (we had not seen it yet). Just asked if they knew if the trails were any good.
Apparently, the trails ARE good, cause they told me to buy the house.4 -
4.4km last night. Tried to take things slow.
MTD 48.1km4 -

Wow, @Elise4270 and @garygse I didn't realize we were neighbors. I am in Lewisville!
You know we need to find a race together. I'm in Oklahoma, but grew up in the Dallas area. I wanted to do the dam half there in Lewisville but injury got me. You have any local favorites?
ETA @katharmonic oh thanks for sharing that photo! It's not "bad" just what a lazy photographer! Couldn't wait 10 seconds.
@cburke8909 watt up? Was it bright? Lol! eta or were you fending off the blerch? *Heckle heckle*
I love this group. Thanks for making this the best end of month question/social ever! Keep 'em comin' if you got 'em!2 -
Compared to this time last year, how have you improved your fitness?
In general, I’m a lot more active. Last year at this time I was getting ready for a 10k, but I wasn’t consistent with the training. I was also about 30 lbs heavier. I’d have a solid week followed by a long stretch of inactivity. It was in November when things changed. My work was doing an extra gym reimbursement and I was within range of getting the $250 for going to the gym. I started going after work as much as possible. I didn’t set out to run again, but after a week or so I found myself following a running plan and working towards building a base. I also started logging foods consistently and bought a food scale. I haven’t been logging foods daily so need to do that again so I can drop the last of the extra weight, but I’ve been maintaining within 5 lbs of my low over the last month. All in all very happy with where things are at.

@Elise4270 I was raising my fist in the air in triumph after looking at my watch and realizing I'd made my goal, but what an epic fail for a picture. A half second later with my hand fully raised, it might have looked good.3

@Elise4270 Oh, I understand about injury keeping you out of races. Been there, done that too many times.
The Dam Half this year is October 20, which is the exact same day I will be running a 15K in Peachtree City, GA with my twin brother. There aren't hardly any races I do locally. Most of my running pals are out of town, so I usually travel to them. But I suppose there is nothing to say I can't find new, local friends and races
I will be on the lookout.1 -

@katharmonic-You definitely win the photo contest. I have had some really bad race photos, but nobody has ever caught me trying to take a drink on the fly. I don't think there is a way to make that look pretty.
@7lenny7- Forgive me for this, but it looks like you are doing a "chicken dance" Ultra!
I went ahead and purchased my photos from Boston last year, the only time I have ever done so, mostly because I wanted the finish line photo. There were a few pre-race photos at that athlete's village and my finishers photo where I am smiling ear to ear, but other than that, every photo looks like this was the most miserable day of my life!3
