Rebecca - will you somehow send a message to us when your operation is over? Sending plenty of healing HUGS!
Lenora - sending big HUGS your way as well!
Rye - sorry that gal turned out to be such a poop! She's probably not the first that has ever set foot in that place, nor will she be the last. But hopefully the last one you will encounter.
At the county building where I once worked, there were signs in the restrooms to turn off the lights and conserve energy. More than once people would find themselves in totally dark bathroom stalls because someone forgot to "check for feet" in the stalls on their way out the door and they'd flick the switch. And twice we lost power in the building while I was there so again, the bathrooms were pitch black.
That could happen anywhere. Is there any way for management to place some little battery operated "night lights" in the dark areas in case of power outages or an accidental light turn off?
Lisa - good points about more practical homes as we age. Our present house is an average rambler but still has a few steps up which concern me a little with DH's arthritis. We could have a handicap ramp put in if needed. In the 1940's there was a cute style of "craftsman" home built - I know of half a dozen in our town. All on one floor with some unique architectural features including a large covered porch area. That's kind of my dream house right now and I'd like to see the interiors. They might have been Sears or Montgomery Wards kit homes.
Heather - have a wonderful trip! Can't wait to see photos!
Karen in VA - seems like our lives revolve around our dogs as well. Before we moved here, it was tending the livestock like Wendy. But, our pups add so much to our lives I cannot imagine not having at least one or two dogs around. Your Yorkies are just too cute - love their names. You can tell they love their mommy!
Last Friday when I got my allergy shots, I had severe pain in my left arm that actually shot down the side of my chest about an hour after the injection. I could still breathe OK - my BP was 128/73, pulse 54 which was great for me so apparently I wasn't going into shock or having a heart attack, lol. Did my workout the next day and washed the car just fine.
I called the allergy doc this morning, she said that can happen if the serum is delivered too close to the nerve somehow. AND it's OK to move the shots to the hip! Shoot up those love handles! May have to get twice a week for another month or so since it's grass season. But the shots are working.
Ok ladies, time to get busy! Have a great week!

Happy June everyone! Thanks Barbie for starting us off on another great month.
For those of you who might recognize me, my username used to be OConnell5483. Unfortunately, I had some issues so changed my username in order to hopefully solve those issues. Anyway, it's just me!
I started my day on the right foot for once. Shocking, since it's a Monday! This morning I took the time to sit outside on our deck and watch the birds while I sipped my first cup of coffee. While I rocked on the bench out there, I also took time to read today's readings in a couple of books that I find really inspirational and insightful. Then I finished getting ready for work. What a difference that made! I feel ready to go today. I've taken a few 5-minute walks outside in the parking lot at work just to get some fresh air, to sit less and to stay feeling positive. It's a gorgeous day in Green Bay today.
It's always this time of year that I lose motivation, probably because once again I do not fit into a bikini, which is just plain silly anyway! I'm doing this to feel healthy, to gain energy and to have a longer time on earth enjoying my family and grandkids! Not to fit in to a bikini! So, I had a "duh" moment and today I feel more motivated to get healthy than I have in a long time. So...bear with me folks. Here I go again! Thanks for sticking with me. *smile*
I don't think I made any May goals, so I'll just jump right in with my June goals.
June Goals- Weigh LESS on July 1st
- Lymphedema arm massage daily
- Walk or ride bicycle 4x week = (30 minutes of activity)
- Journal food and drink daily
- 64oz glasses water every day
- Be up to goal of 8000 steps by July 1
I hope you all have a great day! I'm posting this on Page 10 so plan to go back tonight and get caught up! (Story of my life...*wink*)

I know you ladies all love your dogs to bits, but the more I hear about some of them the more I'm profoundly grateful I haven't got any! I don't even have any house plants in my house because I hate being responsible for living things. I can't imagine sleeping with a dog - I can only just about manage to sleep with an inert and non snoring husband!! I'm such a light sleeper, I can't bear to have anything touching me.
I think we all get our pleasure in our own way. The things that make life worth living vary so much. What would be one person's hell is someone else's comfort blanket. For me my autonomy is just a basic necessity for me.
This thread is a wonderful insight into other people's lives. We are all so different and that's what makes it fascinating.
We are off on the cruise tomorrow. Major packing day today. DH has got to get a hair cut and pick some of the riper gooseberries. I hope the rest will last on the bush until we come back.
Lots of love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxx
I think we are soul mates, LOL I do have three plants in my house because my husband insists on them, but I truly never want to be that tied down to something again. When my girls were little I didn't want pets because my husband drove truck and I had my hands full as it was. Then we moved and he quit driving but we didn't get any because it would be unfair to have it left alone all day. Now I think about it once in a while but then think "no, I can go wherever and whenever I want, why would I want to tie myself down."1 -
Hi there
I have just restarted with MFP and my goal for June is to lose 8 pounds.
Carol7 -
Snowflake and Heather - When I packed up and closed down my microapartment in Stockholm last week, I made sure to keep slips from my totally indestructible hoya plant. For the past twelve years it has survived the most shocking neglect on my part. I watered it every 3-6 months but that was the extent of my TLC. I took lots of slips, hoping to establish a new generation of hoyas up in Svalbard. I suspect they will do just fine there.
The mother plant now lives with my daughter. I was truly happy when she agreed to adopt it because I feel rather guilty about how abominably I've treated it through the years.
I also saved a few slips from a succulent I originally snitched from a rooftop in the Vatican. Yes, I confess. I stole something from the pope. But that was over 20 years ago, during the time of John Paul II, so I think the statute of limitations has expired.

Rye, it's probably too late to help you sleep tonight but for future reference this might help. I am also very sensitive to conflict and will lay awake for hours agonizing over some nasty interaction like you experienced. What I now do, to cancel out those repetitve bad thoughts, is put my ipod on to my nighttime talking/soothing music guided meditations. Listening to my 'friend' who takes me on little journeys into beautiful places and helps to regulate my breathing, blocks out other thoughts and helps me go to sleep. I also tell myself that one day I will look back on this episode and laugh about it. I had a confrontation with a son of a kitten in a changing room at a hot pools once that nearly resulted in blows! (And me, a peaceful loving person!) Now I look back and really laugh about it and also think how I could have behaved differently and wonder why that person was acting like she was. And also I examined myself to understand why I reacted so strongly to her false accusations. But I thought these things over in the daytime and much later when I was emotionally detached from the situation. I hate being kept awake at night, so thank God for my guided meditations!
Katla, do read The Longevity Plan. It is a great book!
Heather, I hope you can keep us updated during your cruise and post lots of pics. I like to travel vicariously! Wendy4 -

Hello all: We tried staking the goats out on cables for the first time yesterday. They did quite well and loved all the green they could eat. They can really clear out an area in a hurry but do not eat grass, they like tall stuff to browse on. They were eating dandelions like crazy along the edge of our riding arena. It is much harder to go somewhere with animals that need to be cared for but we have always somehow managed. We currently have two horses, two goats, a barn cat, two house cats and a labradoodle puppy. We are going to a family reunion in Iowa in August but DD will only go for a couple of days and our farrier will see to the horses, goats and cats while we are gone. Puppy will be boarded.
Nessa the puppy went to puppy school for the first time on Saturday. I was surprised when during play time at the end of the session she was afraid of a little hound puppy who chased her around the room but they finally made friends.
We have spent three years trying to bring back the blueberry bushes we found buried in weeds when we moved in to this place. The first year we had a total of 4 berries. This year the bushes are loaded and I think we will have some to freeze. Yay!!
Rebecca and Lenora - Hope your procedures go well and you heal quickly.
Heather - Bon voyage!
Pip - Happy birthday to Bullwinkle. She is doing great for a large breed dog.
Everyone take care, Sue in WA5 -
Hi all!
All packed, except for last minute morning stuff.
I will post while I am on the ship, but the wifi is a bit pathetic. Sometimes it's hard to even get words to go through, it takes ages, and pics are impossible. What I will do is send through a pic or two when I am on land through data. Fortunately my data is included in Europe on my plan.
DH has gone outside to pick the ripest gooseberries. I hope the birds haven't eaten them all by the time we come home.
Hope I sleep tonight! I'm very excited. I so love it on board. I always love watching the many tv programmes about "behind the scenes." Hotels, hospitals, ambulances, restaurants, street cleaning, neighborhood policing etc. On board I love to watch how it all works - the incredible logistics and all the staff. It's like some complex machine. The training must be amazing. One thing I like is that you can progress through the organisation. Our room cleaner was training to be a bar waitress and the guy who hands out the tour tickets (puts on a wonderful show) started as the refuse guy. Just watching the waiters moving through the dining room with eight plates on a tray in a heaving ship is quite an eye opener! Of course I will never know what goes on below decks, but they give every impression of being happy. If they are seething with discontent they don't show it.
The staff can go ashore at the ports and have bicycles if they want, or can use the passenger's shuttle buses. They have a verandah of their own under ours. I love to chat with them about their lives.
Last year the dancers gave a talk about how they got their jobs and I got the chef to put on a kitchen tour for us.
I love that aspect just as much as seeing the sights. Just nosy I guess.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxx8 -
Thanks for the welcome back, I can not express how much that means to me.
Our little tea cup poodle had to make his last trip to the vet last Tuesday. Toby was almost 16 years old and I know he is not in pain. Was so hard. The other 2 are not sure what to think now. Ocar is a lab\weiner dog mix and Jake is a pug and they are both 6.
Allie--very pretty color and I do think it makes you look ready to party.
Michele--My son and granddaugther have really dry skin. I use cisco lard and put on before bed and cover with sleeper and next day you can really tell a big difference,
Rye--Sorry that lady was such a b**. I know what you mean about some people with money can think they are so much better. I work at the switchboard and answering service for the only hospital in town at this time. When people call they expect you to have all the answers and get so upset and I have been called some pretty nasty things. I keep saying when I retire I am going to write a book about these calls. But at the time they can be so upsetting.
Heather--So excited for your trip and looking forward to seeing pictures and hearing all about it.
I am learning to drive our motorcycle trike and loving it. I was on the highway this last weekend and was not scary as I was afraid it would be. I still need to work on the foot shifting part.
Also got my rock garden redone and now DGD tells me it is a mulch garden. But I am so glad to have it done and looks nice and have my solar lights out.
Well ladies time to sign off and tomorrow is weigh in day. Blessings, Vicki GI NE

Well today I just had the X-Ray scan. It was traumatic though. Couldn't find a vein to put the dye in, so the tech got a nurse, and she used an ultrasound finding one, of course. Numbed up the area, while she fished around. Then I burst forth, haahaa! Had to stay still for sets of 10 mins about 4 times. That was taking a pic of the thyroid. Then I had to wait three hours ,from the time he put the dye in, and come back. By then nature has taken its course, and the dye has reached the parathyroids. I then had pictures taken, stay still for 30 mins, and then 10 mins. Sitting on my hands, until I was in agony! We went and got pizza though, when I was in wait mode. Long day. Came back and just slept!
The nurse even put the time and signed her name where she put the IV, because I had said, let's keep this in for the surgery! Then tech called to let doc know, and the docs office said, oh she's not having surgery today. Grr, then why did the nurse call us to schedule the procedure?? I guess in their world the scan was a procedure. After today, I am declaring that scan a procedure too!
Now I wait for the doctor to get his act together and look at the scans!

Michele, have you ever talked to a dr about your dry skin? I'm just wondering, is it just dry skin or could you have dermatitis? I have contact dermatitus, it gets really itchy if I'm in contact with certain foods (acidic ones are the worst!) or if I don't dry my hands properly (especially around my rings) I get itchy patches that drive me nuts! I have a prescription cream that contains a corticosteroid, makes a HUGE difference! The itching stops almost immediately and the rash clears up within a few days, provided I'm diligent about the other factors, of course. Just my thought.
Rebecca, hoping all goes well with your surgery! Wow the Lego room is awesome!! And yes, there are definitely worse addictions! Update: sorry to hear about the mix up in procedures! Frustrating that it couldn't just get done and be over!
Lenora, hoping your surgery also goes well!
Rye, that woman treated you horribly! Why did she not answer when you called? Stupid, stupid woman! Sincerely hope that she stays away from you from now on! It was her own fault! I do like Machka's idea of the worst customer etc! Working in pubs and kitchens, we certainly had some stories to share! And yes, we did laugh about customers!
Penny is so right! She is just a small woman, trying to get noticed, unfortunate that she feels she needs to make someone else's life a misery to do that....
Lisa, good that you are aware of your limitations and are bearing them in mind while doing your house search. That will definitely play in your favor!
Kelly, glad you got some well earned rest over the weekend!
Cheri, congrats on your new home!
Heather, safe travels! Sounds like such a wonderful trip!
Vicki, so sorry to hear of your poodles last trip to the vet. Had to take our cat on that trip not so long ago, it is hard, but quality of life definitely needs to be taken into account. Our poor girl was pretty old and worn out.
On the subject of pets, we got one cat on purpose and then had two more, at different times, find their way into our home. The second two were rescues, and we did have all three for several years. The one we got on purpose went first, made sense, he was the oldest, then our first rescue and finally our second rescue. They were actually about the same age, but for whatever reason, they didn't have the same lifespan. Anyway, they were never allowed on our bed as hubby is allergic. We have now decided that we won't have any more pets. As much as I love cuddling with cats (not that any of the last three were cuddlers, although they did have their moments), but I'm tired of scooping litter boxes and fixing food and cleaning up kitty litter....!! Also, it will make it so much easier to travel, especially if we are going away for more than a few days. Never had a dog for a pet, never really wanted one. It's not that I don't like dogs, they're just not my favorite. Older son and daughter in law have a puppy, they are going away for a week. Had friends ask today if we were taking the dog. Uh, that would be a firm and loud NO! We hardly get to see the grandson, sure a he!! not taking the dog! I imagine they will leave her with dil's sister and bil. They have a pup that's about the same age, so that would work out.
Kelly, I laughed out loud about you gathering up the doggie droppings from your yard and dropping it on the inconsiderate woman's doorstep!
Hugs to those who need them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to the newbies!

Did hula hoop for 5 min (no, I didn’t break the hula hoop!), held my plank for 3 min, then took the extremepump class. The plan for tomorrow is to do part of the Solid Gold Cardio DVD
Kim – thanks for the suggestion, but I really don’t want to have coconut oil in the house. Jess is SEVERLY allergic and I don’t know how long it would remain in the air. I have this candle that Denise gave to me (why, I really don’t know since I’m not a candle person) that is in a coconut shell. I asked Jess if she wanted it since it’s just in the shell. She decided she didn’t since it was a coconut.
Wendy – that is very interesting. I wouldn’t have any idea what to ask the doc to test for! A diet low in sugar – I think I can handle that. Low carb – here we go again…lol For the last few weeks I’ve been having some avacado almost every day in my salad. I’m a big vegetable eater. I’d rather have a plate of vegetables than some meat. But I know that you need at least SOME meat. Love your dogs
Heather – I’m someone who needs to be with people, Vince is just the opposite, he’d prefer to be home. Many times he’s home for days on end. Me? I’m usually out and about everyday for something. But that’s what makes us compliment each other. Have a great trip
Rye – I think you handled this with grace and elegance. Isn’t it a shame that people can be so uncouth? She probably needed your kindness right then
I’m really afraid to use coconut oil, the Dove sounds like a good alternative. Thank you, everyone, for your great suggestions, especially all the alternatives to coconut oil
Lisa – I especially hate it when I buy a house that I think will work well and it turns out that I made a humongous mistake. One of the absolute things I wanted in a house when we moved here was that all the living area HAD to be on one floor. We told the realtor that if it wasn’t, don’t even bother showing us the house because that was a definite deal breaker. In this house, all the living area is on one floor. On the floor downstairs is another bedroom, another bathroom, TV room, my exercise room. Rooms that if I don’t have to, I don’t need to go into. That happened once a few years ago when I broke a bone in my foot. I couldn’t walk down the stairs. It needed to be dusted and vacuumed, but I didn’t have to do that that minute.
Karen in VA – what lovely doggies you have there
KJ – there have been times when my fingers would crack from the cold (especially when we lived in the Poconos) and I would put glycerine on my hands then wear latex gloves. Now I sometimes have to do it when I’m working with baling wire – that stuff really dries out your hands.
We have four cats. Vince will say when I get home “it’s only mommy”. I just can’t bring myself to calling him “daddy” to the cats. I feel I’m not the cats' mommy. But it makes him happy so I just let him do it
Cheri – congrats on your new home!
Tracie – welcome back
Carol – welcome back!
Sue in WA – yea for the blueberries
Vicki – (((HUG)))
Evie – no, I never talked to the MD about the itching
Lenora – fingers crossed for the best for you
Michele in NC

Lanette: The allergy shots sound like they're worth the trouble, but OUCH. It seems like a mean joke when an avid gardener gets stuck with allergy shots just to breathe in the growing season. No fair!!! I hope the shots allow you to enjoy life this season. :flowerforyou:
Tracie in Green Bay: Welcome back!!!
Heather: Enjoy your cruise. I hope you'll share updates and photos when you can. Bon Voyage! :flowerforyou:
Penny: I am totally surprised. You are the only person I've ever heard of stealing a succulent from the Pope. I'll bet he never even noticed back then and it still lives all these years, and likely several Popes, later. :flowerforyou:
Rebecca: It seems a bit unfair that you have to wait for the procedure after gearing up for the scans. On the other hand, it is good for the doctor to have all the information he needs to do a good job. On another subject, I love the photos of deer in your yard. :flowerforyou:
Vicki: I am so sorry for the loss of your little teacup poodle. You're lucky that you still have two dogs to help you with your grief.
My only houseplants are a century plant given to me by a student when I retired, and several Christmas cactuses. I had a series of orchids for a few years, but don't have any just now. My flowers are outside in the flowerbeds around my house. Many of those flowers turn into beans, blueberries or chives. The fuchsias help to feed the humming birds along with the sugar water I put out for them.
I think I've already mentioned that we have plans to spend the week that includes July 4th at a county park that has amazing facilities for horses. We think, and hope, that the presence of horses in the park will limit firecrackers and other noisemakers that people might set off. Our dog can't handle the firecrackers that are set off in our neighborhood and rockets that are shot off on the Washington side of the river. I hope to take a car ride up there tomorrow and see the place where we'll be parked in our new to us motor-home. Seeing the site will help us know what to expect and make better plans for our comfort.

I am so sore!! Took some Bayer back and body, hoping I will sleep tonight. The second round of scans, I had to put my hands under my backside while I laid on my back. Then I had to freeze, while arching my back a bit so my neck was flat. Then breathing so shallow, so my neck wouldn't move. It was definitely agonizing! Thank goodness Nick the technician kept me informed on time, or I would've gone batty! Compared to a little incision, the actual surgery will be a cakewalk! I suppose all the scans beat a larger incision, and searching willy nilly!

Lovely Janetr!
We're up, we've made the cheese bagels and I'm just about to have breakfast. I'm going to do a truncated exercise session, then get ready.
Beyond excited! Didn't sleep too well. Took myself off to the spare room to read.
Love you all, Heather UK xxxxxxx8 -
Hi. I'm new to the site. Am trying to get off meds for diabetes and have decided to give the Keto plan a chance. So I'm doing high fat, moderate protein and low carb. Have done much research and have set about getting the necessary supplements. I am trying to eliminate the sugar and limit the carbs in my diet. I tried to join the Low Carb site but have not quite figured out how to do that, so if anyone can direct me that would be great. My goals for June are to stick with the program, lower by BS reading, and to exercise.
Congratulations to all of you who have lost weight and stuck to your plans. To the others -- tomorrow is another day to start fresh. We can't change yesterday, but we can change today4 -
Tracie, I remember you! Welcome back!
Lanette, thanks for reading my stuff… I do ramble on occasionally.
Snowflake, I’m kind of in the opposite place. I want to be tied down, I want to be anchored to a piece of land. I want to be someplace that I want to be in all four seasons, instead of wanting to go down the road. But then, I’ve moved 30 times in 40 years (that’s where I stopped counting), so I want to be done. I think.
Carol, welcome! Let us know what you’d like to be called, and about where you are – we’ve got a couple Carols, and it lets us know who we’re talking to…
Heather, hope the cruise is amazing!
Sue, I remember when you moved there, doesn’t seem it’s been that long!
Vicki, glad to see you back, and so sorry about the pup.
Rebecca, hope the procedure is less demanding than the scan. Sounds like a horrible day.
Michele, that’s what we’re shooting for, as well. Don’t mind an upstairs bedroom or two, but want one-floor living. I know knee replacements are in my future, and I’d just as soon sleep in my own bed.
Jennifred2018, welcome! Let us know where you are (in general terms) and what you’d like to be called, so we can make you part of the conversation… We’ve got a couple of ketos, I think, plenty of folks to talk to about your path.
Karen in VA – those pups are gorgeous! I love Yorkies, had one for 13 years that my ex- and I picked up in Yorkshire, England. We named her Elf, and she thought she was a Doberman, pretty much. Such personality in such small bodies.
And, speaking of personality, am trying to type around Egg, the cat, and am obviously not paying her enough attention, so I’m off to kitty cuddling. No joy on last night’s houses. One was beautiful, but not enough land, one was held together with duct tape and spit, and the land was gorgeous. Already told Corey I need to take a break from house hunting. If it’s not absolutely perfect, I’m not even going. I sense a lot of “No, I don’t wanna…” OK, now Egg wants my coffee, and I do not want to see my kitty become a caffeine addict.
Love y’all!
