Heather: Hugs for your poor seasick DH. I have sympathy. I'm sure I've mentioned this in the past, but ginger lozenges work well for me. I wonder if they're available on board.

Michelle: I think Machka has given some sensible advice. I would encourage your DH to have a visit with his MD to be sure there is not something wrong. :flowerforyou:

(((Lisa))) Beatrix Potter would recommend Chamomile tea for Peter Rabbit, and it might help you, too. :flowerforyou:

I need to go to the county offices today and chat with the lady in charge of parks. We've paid for a space in the park, and want to be able to go there to get away from the barrage of firecrackers and booms that are the norm across the river from us in WA. The sound comes straight at us & they terrify our dog. He almost died a year ago from the stress.

Rye - so glad your rash is going away. I'm not surprised your management has Ms. Poop on their "list" lol. They've probably all had run-ins with her. At my last job we called the chronic complainers "frequent fliers". >:)

Wendy - thanks for sharing those visualizations - I can use them as well. The creator does a great job!

Heather - sounds like you are off to a good start. Hope your DH's queasiness gets resolved quickly. I get urpy just thinking about him being urpy, lol.

Barbara AHMOD - My DH was in management and taught college for a while and was always around lots of people. I think he OD'd on humans (plus he's an introvert) so that's why he's such a recluse now. Was yours the same way or are some old guys just destined to become hermits no matter what?

Rori - that's terrific your DH is still in good health and you are able to travel together. I was never a swimmer - took lessons as a teen but was too uncoordinated to get the breathing down right, however did fine on my back. And loved diving. So I am envious of you and Rye and others of you who really get into it, lol.

Katla - I hope you can keep that quiet spot to park the RV over 4th of July at the county park. Sometimes the site staff get their wires crossed. With your love of horses, being surrounded by horse owners sounds nifty anyhow. It will be fun to try out your new-to-you RV.

    Rita
    - hope you are feeling better!

Beth - good idea your DH going to the doc regarding that tick bite. Darn those things. Hope your pool is all set up to go before long. By the way, did your son get suitable housing or is he still looking?

My DH's noise cancelling headphones work great. The neighbor fired up his noisy lawnmower Monday and DH couldn't hear the rumble at all, yet could hear the TV just fine. I'm glad I didn't spend $$ on some gadget that doesn't work as advertised - got it from Amazon but I they somehow tweak the reviews now. Sneaky and I don't trust them like I used to.

Mary - are you back up north yet?

Karen in VA - I had to look up Coton. Bailey is just too cute! Who rules the roost - him or the Yorkies?

Our mini schnauzer Rosie is doing OK on her "diet". I think. I've basically cut her food back by 1/4 and am substituting little chunks of raw cabbage and a blueberry or two to fill her tummy. She loves fruits and veggies so much you'd think we are giving her T-bones. She only has to lose 2# max to get back to around 12#. I think half a pound a month should be fine, will weigh her in a week to see if she's going in the right direction.

Okie - congrats! I always thought maintenance was harder than losing when I was on WW, but then I wasn't really doing exercise faithfully.

Lisa - I have been into the snacks way too much in the past few days. I wonder if I was a heroin addict in a former life the way sugar sometimes (not always, thankfully) clicks something on in my brain that makes me want to eat everything in sight. I mean everything. I love your writing, by the way. Reminds me a little of one of my favorite authors Annie Dillard. I need to reread "The Living" about families settling in the Pacific Northwest up near Bellingham. Wasn't so much the story but the voice in which she wrote it that was, well, quite powerful.

Michele - I too am a little worried about Vince. When I went in to get my allergy shots yesterday, I told the nurse that the Friday ones caused me so much pain in my left arm and chest I wondered if I was having a heart attack. She asked if I had cold sweat, trouble breathing, passing out, etc. I told her no, just tremendous pain with normal blood pressure. Told her I then did my workout and washed the car so I figured it wasn't anything other than annoying. She wasn't concerned enough to suggest an EKG so I think I'm good to go.

Allergy shot update - went in yesterday and the nurse gave the injections in my "love handles". Went great, just a little tenderness. Woo hoo! Lots more real estate to choose from there.

It's been a busy week at our house so far. Monday, the landscapers came in and trimmed back the fir trees under the power line. About 5 years ago DH rented a cherry-picker and did it, and it was really hard on his shoulders. Took him a couple days to do the job. This guy climbed the trees (24 of them) and got after them with his little chainsaw and was done in about three hours. Then they used a chipper and cleaned up the trimmings and brush hogged the weed patch behind them to the neighbor's fence. DH can now keep up with the mowing back there.

Yesterday, the wood guy dropped off 2 cords of firewood, mixed maple and alder. Hopefully DH won't have to spit much of it but will have to stack it.

I got a good deal on baby avocados yesterday - they are ripe and need to go into the fridge. Also want to make hummus today with nice looking Tahini I picked up at Trader Joe's last month.

That's the quick and dirty. Hugs all around and welcome new gals! <3

Lanette - Thanks! So far I am keeping up with my exercise. I don't feel right if I don't get my steps in in the morning. I have taken a weekend off once recently where I still got movement in, but not my normal 5.5 miles walk/jog that I do first thing. That actually felt nice, it was the first time I had done that in 242 days (my streak I have going). I know I won't keep it going forever, but for now, it works for me. Also, thanks for reminding me that I need to contact the guy who cleans out my flowerbeds for me. I've been forgetting to do that for a month now. I'm going to shoot him an email now.

    Okie

ETA: Email sent. Now we'll see if he responds.

, you rock with getting those steps in! I know exercise surely gives me a "cushion". Were you active like that before your weight loss or was that part of your strategy?

Hope your flowerbed guy contacts you.

The older we get, sometimes it's easier just to hire someone to come in and get it done all at once. <3

Question: I need facts to back up what I want to say to Vince. The other day right after he ate lunch he suddenly got dizzy and nauseous (it went away after a few minutes, he’s fine now). Like his father, he immediately attributed it to something he ate. Well, he ate the same thing for lunch that he’s had many times. He’s convinced that it’s these cupcakes that I put out for him. Now, I made the cupcakes, just froze some so that they all weren’t out and go stale. He’s convinced that that’s what caused it. He’s had cupcakes from this batch before with no problem. Same with the icing. What I want to say is “it’s not always what you ate, but what you DIDN’T eat. Our bodies are very amazing at telling us what we need. For example, when we need extra iron, even before the blood test confirms this, our body tells us that we need extra iron because we get tired very easily”. I just need more examples. Anyone have any?
Your husband and mine could be brothers with that attitude from their Father's. My husband has not seen a doctor other than for welder's flash and metal in the eye since 2000 when he had to have a finger amputated. He has continual head aches, goes through Advil like candy and won't believe anything I tell him about high blood pressure, diabetes, etc.

As for your husband, I don't have any wise words of wisdom, I'm still calling my Mother in Law for that insight. When my Dad was sick a friend of mine was visiting at the hospital and she was having a nose bleed. My MIL asked her what was going on, she told her that she had been having them for a few months and they were terrible to get stopped. The doctors didn't know what was causing them. My MIL said tell them to check your d**n blood pressure! They should know that. Sure enough she was extremely high blood pressure and was put on meds withing the week.

I wish you luck with your husband, I have threatened mine with a cast iron frying pan to the head to get him to be seen LOL

I find the opposite actually. Besides not having much budget (lol, ok I don’t have any budget for this) anymore to afford services people. I also find myself wanting things done in a more particular way the older I get so it is often do it myself or go without. I’m so picky I often will do without rather than have an expense for something I don’t think was done well or correctly.

We reserved a campsite at a county park for the fourth of July and went up to see our spot today. We liked our spot but the caretaker says we shouldn't camp there because we won't be bringing a horse. I need to go into the county offices tomorrow and talk to the woman in charge. Nothing in their information said that a horse was a requirement to camp in that spot.

    Morning, afternoon and evening, all,

Woke up with a sinus headache for the third morning in a row, and the thought of digging my way out from under an avalanche of work has little charm for me this morning. I don't think I'm depressed, per se--but if you're a Little Women fan, and maybe even if you're not, you'll understand when I say at the moment I feel as if I'm wading through the Slough of Despond. It's an unaccustomed place for me--while still being terribly familiar. It's that stage of a diet regimen where I blow up, and binge, and sneak food while my husband's not looking, and watch the scale numbers rise, and feel like an utter failure. Struggling to extricate myself from it and find my path again feels beyond me.

And then I read the words of you incredibly strong, amazing women, and feel inspired to just pick up the blessedly metaphorical shovel and start digging once more. Slowly, whinging, whining and complaining all the way, but digging.

And not to mix my metaphors unforgivably, but you are indeed my leaning post, and I am grateful.

    Love y'all,
Lisa in Arkansas (where DID I leave that shovel? )

Lisa I think we all have those days and sometimes weeks. You have the right attitude towards it though and that is a great sign! Helping you dig here.

worrying about my DD and her DD at the moment, GD as some of you know has physical and mental problems. She was home schooled but has attended FE college this year to gain qualifications, so proud that she completed courses and is now doing exams. Because of her problems she has special help to enable her to complete exams, like extra time and special room etc. Which is great but each time they turn up for the exam nothing is in place and DD has to run around trying to get everything sorted. I worked in a college and know how disorganised things can be, but it makes me so angry. This kid has multiple problems and even getting out of bed in the morning is sometimes impossible grrr
    Rant over

We are still enjoying our lovely summer weather here and today one of our visitor attractions ALBERT DOCK is now to be named ROYAL ALBERT DOCK LIVERPOOL, hopefully this will attract even more visitors, although we already get thousands, city centre is always full of tourists from all over the world. I am so proud to be a "Scouser"

Well done everyone who has achieved their goals, whatever they may be

HEATHER sounds like you have settled in on your cruise, look forward to stories and pics

Get well wishes to all who need them and welcome newbies

Lanette ... OS is just sitting tight right now in regards to housing. It seems a lot of our information regarding a certified setting was based on rumor. He plans to wait out the state certification process, give the new house structure a try, and if it doesn't work for him, THEN look for housing. His dad and I are encouraging this since moving to another location with the same aide situation is only going to result in the same difficulties he's had with retaining staff. A certified house situation guarantees he'll always have staff. We'll see ...

This is our situation as well, but we're going to have to bite the bullet and find funds for some of the work around our house... roof (husband did it in the past), driveway (I helped pour the last one), rows of trees that need to come down (we always did this with a chainsaw), etc ... My husband's body just can't take it anymore and the work is becoming overwhelming. Husband will complain the whole time that those we hire didn't do it right ... but he's going to have to get over that.

I am counting my blessings right now. While money doesn't grow on trees, if we have a cash flow problem, I can pick up an extra shift and bring home more money. For me, it is better to spend my time doing what I do best and pay other people to do what they do best. I had an amazing friend who bartered successfully all the time. She had an uncanny ability to figure out what people needed and propose a mutually beneficial barter. I have no interest in, or skill at, bartering.

Did Solid Gold Cardio DVD. The plan for tomorrow is to go to the deep water class.

Rebecca – I’m so sorry to hear you were in such pain and still are. Sending good vibes. What a majestic deer you had there!

Jennifer – welcome. I bet Mary would have some good advice about the Keto for you.

Question: I need facts to back up what I want to say to Vince. The other day right after he ate lunch he suddenly got dizzy and nauseous (it went away after a few minutes, he’s fine now). Karen in VA – go-karting is so much fun, just wish the cars could go faster….lol

Rye – you poor dear. Please let us know what’s happening. Carol’s hypothesis sounds reasonable

    Rita – feel better fast

Vince had these lights (rope lights) all along the railing on the deck, but they needed to come down since they were coming off. They weren’t rated for outdoor use. Well, I spent almost all day taking the adhesive off the railing. I would guess 15-20 feet of railing. Spent all day getting the adhesive off. Someone suggested that you put motor oil on a tree stump that you want to get rid of. What it’ll do, I have no idea. I put some of the spectracide in them a while ago and today I put this motor oil in them. I don’t know what’ll happen. We went to Lowes and got some more blocks that Vince put around the cantilever umbrella. He likes it, I’m not crazy about it. But he needed me to pick up the blocks, he positioned them. Then he went into the spa to have the jets on his back. Tomorrow I’m planning to spray paint the blocks that I cut yesterday to use for the Christmas decorations. I don’t do a fantastic job painting, just enough so that they blend in with the grass. Then I want to wash off the deck railing since there’s so much mold. Then I want to put down the extra rocks that Vince got up, there are a few spots where we need them.

Thursday I volunteer at the green room, afterwards I want to go to the farmer’s market and see what they have. Hope they have honey since I need some. Then I’ll stop at Lowes and get this 30-minute stuff that takes off mold. I did put the wet & forget on the railing, but I’m a bit impatient. Also, if Vince is going to put different lights around the railing, I want it to be clean.

Precious perla – welcome. Come in often for lots of support and motivation

Pip – are you trying to outdo Kirby???? So glad you weren’t hurt

Rebecca – don’t you just hate it when you have to wait so long to see a doctor? I called about my trigger thumb weeks ago. At that point it wasn’t real bad, only happened every so often. I can’t see him until next week. Now it’s gotten to the point where it’s like the trigger all the time and the strength in my right thumb just isn’t the same as the left (weaker). Now if I’d been able to see him when I first started having symptoms, maybe it wouldn’t be like this. Oh well…. I feel for ya

Rori – happy birthday to your dh. Good for you getting all that swimming in. Are you impacted at all by the fires?

    Michele in NC

    hahaha!! good one

Hi Sisters, just heading out for a run with Jock and Major before the threatening rain comes. I'm packing today as I plan to spend the weekend with my daughter and grandies. Such a treat for me! I will go to the office tomorrow, then drive on to her place two and a half hours from town...Then next week is going to fly by, because I will retire next Friday, Whoop! I am still feeling worried that the woman who is taking over my job remotely, from another part of NZ, will not be able to cope and I will get called back in to carry the load again...but I will just have to give that over to God and rest assured that all things work together for good. I am a 'go with the flow' don't make waves kind of person. I even drive around town always going with the flow, which means that I will go around the block, and turn the opposite direction from which I want to go, so that I don't cut across traffic. I am really great at the slightest bit of conflict avoidance. LOL

Heather, thanks for the frequent updates. I am sooo enjoying your cruise. What is your first stop and what are the highlights at that stop that you are looking forward to?

So I have been re-reading one of my favourite authors Ann Wigmore, who founded the Hippocrates Centre in Boston where she saved the lives of many dying people through raw foods and wheat grass juice. She had the most amazing childhood in Lithuania during World War 1, where she grew up with her Grandmother who was the village Healer. I glean so many insights from the story of her life which is freely available for all to read here: http://www.whale.to/a/whysuffer.pdf With this great gift, I'll leave you and love you, <3 Wendy

Barbara - Woo hoo for Joe getting moving! I'm excited for you!

As for copperheads, at this house in the hill country, I'm more likely to find a TX Coral snake. Found one last year while I was mowing around a tree in the pasture. They are tiny, but I don't care. I gave that sucker a wide berth, if I ran over it, what if it got thrown up on me? I have seen one this year in front of a neighbors house, about a 1/2 mile up the road from us. I haven't seen any at our place. Hopefully I don't! I hate snakes!!

You are one of the many reasons I love this place, Rebecca... a puckish sense of humor goes a long way... :)

From Lanette: Lisa - I have been into the snacks way too much in the past few days. Lanette, you smacked into one of my favorite authors--when I am struggling to remember why I write, I pick up her book, "The Writing Life" and I remember. She and Anne Lamott's "Bird by Bird" can always help me find my way back to the page. And sugar is a MASSIVE trigger for me... *sigh*

Peachy: Mary said she and her DH were going back to MN for a while. That is the last thing I recall from her. :flowerforyou:

Lanette: I'm not sure how it will turn out regarding our reservation at the campground. I talked to the guy in charge this morning, & he said he'd get back to me. Haven't heard a peep so far and it is several hours ago that I called him. Waiting is not easy. :ohwell:

Snowflake: I agree that the restriction on that particular camping site to people with horses should have been in the website. I'm frustrated. :grumble:

Beth: I hope that your son is able to get certified and end up with the right kind of housing with adequate support. :flowerforyou:

I'm still waiting for a call from the county about the park reservation snafu, & I think it is about time for me to call back. I want to get this situation taken care of. I either get my spot or my money from my POV. I'd like the spot best, or a reservation in an equally nice county park. We're making good progress turning the new to us RV into our new home away from home. We have been busy lining all the shelves with nonskid to keep things in their places and hopefully to eliminate rattling noises as much as possible while we're on the road. DMIL's RV sounded like the worst rattle trap around back in the day. I didn't enjoy riding with her at all. :noway:

Heather, your cruise sounds like so much fun!! I went on a Norwegian Cruise Lines cruise to the Caribbean Islands back in the 1980's. I participated in the talent show. I had a Jane Fonda leotard striped pink and lime green body suit. It even had a stretchy pink belt. I wore pink tights as well. I made my face up like a mime' and juggled. Even when I dropped a ball, I clowned around! It was really fun.
I went with a girlfriend from the bank I worked at. As single ladies, don't think I paid for one drink while I was aboard. I became friends with a wine steward and at one of the ports we played tennis. He wanted more, I think, but tennis was the only thing I was willing to give him.
I did have a bit of a fling with one of the Norwegian officers, and heck it was the crazy 80's so he snuck me into his cabin nightly! Crazy when I think on it now!

I think it we were to ever contemplate going on a cruise it would be on a small ship, like with sails and all. I saw a show on the Windjammer cruise lines. There are rigging courses you can learn about and be on a work crew. The show I saw showed the crew repairing one of the sails. It was quite interesting!I
    Awesome travels to you!
