Happy Father's Day to all the Dads in the group! Hope you are having a wonderful family day, being celebrated!
Now spending a few minutes to catch up on all the posts I have missed...
@sarahthes - Hope you are feeling better!
@skippygirlsmom - So glad the race went so well for you and for the Skippygirl! Love the pictures!
@kat_ontherun and @weat0043 - I can't run fasted either (although I did try for a while). I get dizzy and often my legs feel dead. These days I typically have a piece of toast with some peanut butter and some banana. It seems to be just enough.
@elise4270 - look at you!! 6+ miles woohoo! Followed up with another run and a ride! Getting stronger every day!
@5BeautifulDays - hope you are quickly feeling back to normal!
@bride001 - My chiropractor gave me a yoga stretch/pose to do for my PF. I do I before every run and while it was difficult and hurt initially now it is fine and I think it has really helped me. I rarely have any issues with PF any more. http://rebeccapacheco.com/asana/for-your-tired-tootsies-from-om-gal-with-love/
@rheddmobile - Happy Birthday! Great job on your birthday 5k as well as on your progress in the last year!
@hanlonsk and @juliet3455 - You both must be traveling to remote areas. In all my travels I have yet to have to stay at a hotel in the US, Canada, Central America or Europe that didn't have some kind of a gym with at least a couple of 'mills and elliptical and a free weight set even in small villages. @hanlonsk - love the pictures! Did the chicken run with you?
@biketheworld - I get that all the time too. People will say 'have a good walk' and I always respond 'Thanks I will have a great run' It used to bug me that people couldn't tell I was a runner, but now oh well!
@katharmonic - So awesome that you could run with your Uncle and get some tips from him. I suspect he was honored and loved running with you too! You really should plan a race with him maybe somewhere you both want to go or in between where you both live. Also on the SUP... it is a legit workout! There was a guy who also worked out with my trainer who competed and raced to Catalina island. It was about 30 miles! He was in amazing shape!
@ContraryMaryMary - love the muddy shoes and legs. Looks like you had a great time!
@marisap2010 - Awesome long run!
@MobyCarp - Congratulations on the race and that the achilles seems to be ok!
@_nikkiwolf_ - in all fairness my trail is in an urban/suburban area and is only 1.5mi each way. I can however go out onto the dirt service road or over to the longer bike trail on the other side of the river and still not be too far away from them. One way or the other I have to go by one to get home too.6 -
It's super hot outside. Thank goodness for the treadmill.
Did 2 miles running and 2 miles walking uphill yesterday. Found that my HR gets up just as high as running just from walking uphill. Nice.
Today is Sunday, which is the day I usually feel super worn out, so it is a rest day. Tomorrow morning I'm back at it.
Got a shift in my medication coming up, and I'm prepared to feel funky for a few days. Hopefully I can still run through it. Nothing major, just a dosage adjustment. But I'm so sensitive to changes in meds, so you never know.10 -

Sincere Thank you! I frequently use events as supported training runs as I did these 2. They both supplied water and Gatorade and Gu which is easier then on me.
The Half was delayed by lightning, and it was so humid! But the finish is in the Toledo Mud Hens ball park. And the shirt is a keeper, super nice. Not bad for a last day register.
The TRI, was planned. I wanted an open water swim and a middle distance bike route. It got to 92 degrees. I was happy with the swim and bike, but I was getting sunburnt and lost tons of fluid through sweat. I considered taking a DNF for safety, but decided on a walk jog 10K.11 -

Thanks! You have so much experience, i just had to ask for more information. Glad to hear you didn't have to DNF. 92f/33c is unpleasant. Awesome swag score on the shirt!1 -

Super muggy and rainy outside today, so did 3 miles on the treadmill! I got plenty of sleep last night, started with an early breakfast and lunch, then ran at around 5pm when I felt like my energy was finally back after so many days of fatigue. It was tough to keep going after the first mile, but I decided to play around with the speed a little to keep things interesting and push myself. I'm so happy I pushed myself for 3 miles! I celebrated with a cold shower and chocolate ice cream. T'was a good day.

@katharmonic I have always wanted to try stand-up paddle boarding. It looks like fun and a good workout.
@midwesterner85 and @5BeautifulDays Nice job pushing through your runs in the heat! I'm usually the type of person who is always cold no matter what, but when I start running I whine about even the nicest weather. It's been not only hot, but extremely humid where I live, so I've been trying to make friends with the treadmill.
@amymoreorless Woah! I guess the thrill seekers will never be satisfied. Everything is bigger in Texas though, right?

Ugh, house hunting might just kill me. Sadly that could be literally based on the inspection report form the last house we were putting an offer on! Always get a pro in there to inspect!7

6 'easy' miles this morning.
Thought I would be smart and skip my long run this weekend to give my Achilles a rest. It felt good yesterday walking the dog, no pain at all. So this morning was planning on testing it with a very slow, easy run. Started out over 1 min/mi slower than normal with a shortened stride. The pain was about a 3 during the first mile, and it felt so much harder to run at that speed. As I warmed up, the pain subsided, and completely went away after mile 3. Coincidentally, my pace increased to a slow normal, and almost normal stride length. It felt much easier at this pace. I guess altering pace and stride from normal makes it feel harder, but I still really don't get why shortening stride and going slower feels harder. I thought that strategy would get me through the marathon. Now I'm worried.

The last few days have been busy so here's an update...
6/14 pouring rain so had to run on the elliptical. Managed 5.02 miles in 1 hour.
6/15 made up for missing yesterday's run. 2.5 mile run/walk
6/16 rest day
6/17 accidentally walked to church and back. 1.3 miles. Hubby and I walked out and locked the door without the car/house keys. Oops! He had to use a ladder to climb in a second story window to let us back in the house. Guess it was God's way of telling me not to take two rest days in a row LOL!
6/18 6:30 run/walk 2.1 miles. It's already super uncomfortable outside. 81degrees, 72 degree dew point and 74% humidity. Yuck! But I ran anyway so it's a win!
Total added 10.92 miles
Monthly total 37.01/40

Argh! I wasn't able to get up this morning with enough time to run. I was just too worn out and wound up oversleeping. So that means I have to have a walk at lunch today. It's way too hot to walk outside, so I have to do laps around the atrium, which I hate because of all the people I have to dodge. I usually wind up getting super stressed out and p*ssed off, and I'm not looking forward to that.
There is a mall across the street from my work building. I could go there instead, but it's just as bad people-wise, so IDK. This is why I try to get my workouts done before work these days. So, argh.
Maybe I could just have a short walk at lunch and get the rest of my steps on the treadmill after work. That's when I usually do yoga, but I may be willing to swap for this particular case.
I just wish I wasn't so socially anxious. That would make this a lot easier.8 -

@juliet3455 thanks for the link that worked
@kat_ontherun if Skip didn’t get an offer to run in college she definitely would have continued with the sport, she loves it. Good way to keep off the freshman 15 ha ha
@PastorVincent on agree on the house inspections, amazing the things that turn up that you never notice.
@Scott6255 please don’t play with Achilles pain.

@ddmom0811 sounds like you are enjoying St. Pete
1 -
@skippygirlsmom seriously, i almost stayed home from work to play with him. that is how sweet and cute he is. he snuggled me all night.

Oh, @mbaker566 I love that little dog - so cute. Hope he finds a wonderful home soon.
@kat_ontherun you should try SUP, it was definitely fun and I felt it in the legs for sure. Good core work!

Last run at the lake this morning! Still really hot but I found another trail that was almost all shade. Nice run along the lake and across a little dam/spillway area. It was pretty tempting to wade in there but I was only half way at that point. When I got back though I was at the beach and able to wade in a bit. So nice.
Now it's time to check out and go back to regular life!3 -

16.3 miles so far this month for me. All on the treadmill which isn't ideal but better than nothing. Will probably do a few more easy miles on the treadmill tomorrow, then it's the J P Morgan Corporate Challenge on Thursday evening. It looks as if it's going to a very hot and sticky 3.5 miles, so that post-race beer will be very welcome.

Finally starting to feel better - thanks for all the well wishes. We are under a heat warning so I'm going to try for 3-5km right before bed or, if I'm not feeling at least 80%, tomorrow morning instead.
Man, my mileage is going to be so low this month...6 -
5 hot and sweaty miles for me this morning. My energy level was low and I was dragging the last couple of miles. I was hungry when I went to bed last night so I had a small snack about 45 minutes before heading out. I normally run fasted when I run before work, but I felt I needed something. I’ve been cutting back on my calories in effort to ditch some extra pounds. I knew my runs would suffer so I just need to suck it up buttercup!
Here's a picture from after my 5K on Saturday (I'm in the pink). We ran 3 miles before. One of my friends is coming back from an injury so we all three stayed together. My time was 4 minutes slower than last year, but that's ok, we had fun!
Upcoming Races:
June 21 – The Beaver 10K
July 17 – Wolf Run
September 1 – Iron Mountain 16-Miler
September 7-8 – Blue Ridge Relay
October 20 – Cherokee Harvest Half Marathon
November 11 – Rock n Roll Vegas Half Marathon
