So I did have a short-ish walk at lunch and I ran 3.2 miles after work. The running felt good. My pace is improving ever so gradually.
Lots of rain headed this way. Cubs game is delayed, boo. But at least it's supposed to cool off some.5 -
@Scott6255 - I read recently, in RW I think, that running slower than your natural gait would allow can also throw off your form making it feel much harder too. @mobycarp might have some advice on that and your achilles.
@Elise4270 and @HonuNui - I am definitely in for a trip to Hawaii when @Elise4270 wins the lottery. I'm in for a tattoo as well if I can just figure out what I want!
@mbaker566 - cute pup! I am always amazed at the puppies that end up rescued and in need of foster care. So sad especially for the ones who don't make it to rescue and are mistreated.
@zdyb23456 - your daughter is adorable! Looks like she is going to be a fish! Mine started swimming before she was 5 and didn't stop until the middle of college
@hanlonsk - my daughter had chickens when she moved to Seattle and had a sign on the gate 'Beware of Chickens'! They were really sweet but could be very scary and yes protective when someone came through the gate that they didn't know.
I got in a few miles this morning... Have to get out earlier so it is a) cooler and b) I can eat both breakfast and lunch!
Today was nice but it is supposed to get hot again later this week. I am pretty sure these guys were watching and waiting for me to die so they could swoop in and get me. Hoping Hobbes would protect me but I think they are nearly as big as he is!

~4km tonight, it felt really good, I was going pretty fast(for me) and then I got stuck in a downpour and my phone is now drowned... The worst part is it didn't download my run before shutting down on me so once again I have no proof it happened but I SWEAR IT DID!!! it's in a pile of rice right now but I think it's finished. I dropped it a couple months ago and cracked the screen so I think the water got in and fried the display.

@mbaker566 - cute pup! I am always amazed at the puppies that end up rescued and in need of foster care. So sad especially for the ones who don't make it to rescue and are mistreated.
We got our puppy from a rescue place when he was three years old. He had been left behind by his prior owners, chained up with no food or water, when they moved away! Then he went into the rescue system and no one wanted him because he was a mutt. He went on to the rainbow bridge a couple years ago at 16 years old.
he was such a gentle soul. Our son was born after we got him and pulled his tail, his ears, and etc and puppy was always gentle and patient. Poeple have a lot to learn from beings like him...

Not doing really well with staying consistent, but started a new training plan so hoping that helps. I did fairly good sticking to the last one, so the plan will help. Haven’t decided if I’m actually going to do a half this fall, but started a plan so will see how it goes. The trail in town was slippery after the rain storms the last couple days per my husband so stayed on the road. I was tempted to go check them out, but it’s a mile to the trail and was planning a two mile out and back so just stayed on the road for another mile. There was a nice breeze on the backside, but at the turnaround lost the breeze for a while. There was moisture in the air, but it was way cooler than yesterday (we were in the 90’s yesterday and 72 or so when I started the run).

@shanber @elise4270 @skippygirlsmom as always, the back yard is open for camping. Currently, there is NOT a river of lava running thru it! (tho if elise wins the lotto, one of the resorts is a better choice.)
@PastorVincent mutts are the best!
Ticker is my goal for 2018 and progress to date:

9.36 miles early morning - dew point was 72 and pace was slow, but better than a few days ago when temp. was 20 degrees higher with the same dew point. Maybe it is because the sun wasn't beating down when I went out at 3:30am?

@Teresa502 that is a good pic representing happy runners. Wishing everyone that feeling when we run.
Agreed.
Scott, about what you were saying about how running slow felt hard...
https://tinamuir.com/why-easy-hard/
Basically, my take on it is:
Running fast makes us feel awesome. We like the stats on our watch, we like the endorphins, we like the bragging rights.
When we run slow, we hate that we're not getting these things. Look at that bad pace! This is going to look bad on Strava! Where's my runner's high?
We worry about being slow, the runner's biggest fear. We can feel time slipping away, we're wasting time, oh crap!!
Plus, you were worried about your Achilles, and your marathon.
All these things can mean a very difficult run.
From the article: “It takes more strength and courage to run easy than it does to run hard.”
It's so hard to run easy, but so very, very important.
I got in a little over 5k (half road, half trail) after C25k with my friend today. I made myself run the uphill trail sections at what FELT like a faster pace, but probably wasn't! I have no idea what to expect on this half marathon in a week and a half, other than I plan to have fun and stick my feet a little deeper into trail running.
Upcoming races:
6/30 Silesian Highland [trail] Half Marathon
7/16 CityTrail OnTour 5k4 -

It be like Woodstock, but with runners! y'all shake your voodoo sticks, pray your prayers, zen your zen-bonies and I'll buy a lottery ticket and we'll all go to Hawaii for tattoos, good food, comradrarie and new running gear... then talk @7lenny7 in to taking us sailing. And go visit @girlinahat because her jobs the coolest.
Ok. Enough dreaming. Time to embrace another day in paradise, uh thats work yall. Back to work.7 -
@PastorVincent Beautiful puppy! Mutts are the best, my girl, Emma, is a Shep/Lab mix, shelter dog as well. Was talking to my vet about the craziness of the prices for all these "designer dogs", when I was a kid, we called them "mutts". She smiled and said "they still are, just people are willing to pay thousands of dollars for them now".
As a trial run for the #SportsBraSquad Day on Sunday, I decided to do a run this morning without a shirt. Hey, at 5am, who is really gonna gawk? lol At first, it was, ya, a bit weird. But after a few minutes I was more focused on me, and it really didn't matter, and yes, it WAS cooler! Might have to do more runs like this.

@PastorVincent - Awww, sounds like you still miss him. I still miss my Golden that died in 2012! We still bring up stories about him. My little mutt now is quite a character as well!
I did NOT want to get out of bed to run this morning. Although I'm working this summer (first time in 20 years ), I can go in later so I get to run in the daylight. But why does a 5:27 alarm seem worse than a 4:07 alarm? Anyway, I set out and it felt great! It wasn't as hot! Then on the drive into work the person on the radio said that the dew point is lower today!!! First time I've EVER heard that mentioned except in here!
So it was a really nice run and of course, I am so glad I went!

Day 2 of dosage adjustment. Feeling slightly less funky than yesterday, but still a bit off. Yesterday I needed some Benadryl to curb the nervousness. We'll see if I need any today.
Since I had a late run yesterday I stuck to walking this morning. 5k, half of which was uphill.
It's a gloomy and rainy day here. I'm glad I was able to get my exercise done in the morning today because the thought of walking in that atrium just does not appeal.8 -
June goal: 75 miles

55.9/75 miles
I got 5.2 miles in this morning and kept my pace under 12 minutes the whole time. The temperature was 75F which wasn't too bad, but the dew point was 68 and the humidity was 84% so I was drenched by the time I got home. It definitely made me think about the #sportsbrasquad. Today would have been a good day to run sans shirt. You are brave @dreamer12151.
I am in for the Hawaii trip when @Elise4270 wins the lottery. I would love to camp in @HonuNui back yard as long as she takes us snorkeling.
2018 races:
5/19/18: Run for 57th AHC Half Marathon - 2:43:59.7. - 2nd place AG
11/10/18: Wags & Whiskers 5K6 -
I think I might have blown my 60 mile monthly goal, but so it goes. I run outdoors or I don't run, and when there’s a heat advisory for two days and thunderstorms and a tornado watch, I do not run outdoors. I finally made it out yesterday evening and in light of the conversation about “bad runs” this one could have been better: I was tense about cars being able to see me, people definitely drive worse at 8:30 PM than 6:30 AM (or at least more people are on the road), it was still more humid than I’d like, I was really indecisive about my route, it was really buggy down by the lake, and so on and so forth. I started off too fast and got a PR for my first mile, then had to walk a bit in the middle, but still made a good overall time.
And f-it, I ran, so that was good.
I was hoping to make it around a new lake this weekend but my long runs just haven’t been happening. My longest run is still May 12th and I’d hoped to keep pushing that up, but various things have gotten in the way. I haven't done more than 3 miles at a go since June 2nd. That said, I need to chill out and stop stressing about not increasing my mileage as much week-to-week as is “ideal” or whatever. This is a crazy busy month with two trips and lots of OT at the new job and a heat advisory and working in the garden and so on and so forth. I'm still running. Everything else is gravy.
