Getting a late start this morning. Stayed up too late last night and am not moving too quickly today.
I have an internal struggle going today. I know what I WANT to do today, and then I also know what I SHOULD do today. This Thursday, I am retaking the exam I failed last week, and I really should start studying today. But I want to enjoy my day off and not do anything for work. I want to sew on Bex's quilt. I want to cut up veggies for the week and make serving-sized Grab-N-Go baggies of easy snacks. (Actually this one I'll probably do, since I want to AND I should.) Such a dilemma....if this is the hardest decision I have to make today, then life is pretty good, right?
@mytime6630, I will join in July's challenge! I try to do that with my daytime meals that I pack anyway (B, L, and Snacks). I think for me, I will plan my packed food, as well as what I'm going to allow myself for a treat at the end of the day. Maybe if I plan ahead of time what I'm going to have when my nighttime snack urge comes, I'll eat something other than ice cream! I'll be able to add it into my calories that way also if I pre-plan and pre-log. Dinner is many times out of my control since my hubby is retired and cooks dinner every night.
Just for Sunday:
1. Log every bite & stay in the green
2. Finish top of Bex's quilt.
3. July Budgeting
4. July bullet journal update
5. Begin studying for Epic Inpatient Procedure Orders certification - spend 1 hour today.
6. Laundry / ironing / pick out week's outfits
7. Prep veggies and fruit
8. Body, Mind & Spirit: Podcasts, Netflix documentaries about nutrition, read, soak in tub, mani/pedi. Pick something.

How planning ahead helps us ---- I am one that usually always fixes lunches and dinner, both for myself and hubby. Yesterday I had planned to eat cottage cheese and cantalope for lunch (my favorite). Well, hubby was going to the gym, so he wanted his "before gym" food -- a large bagel, with peanut butter and jelly. So yesterday, I decided, gee, that sounds good .... and thats what I had. But I ate it while I ran out the door ... no sitting down to eat it. And Way over the calories, and not what I had intended to eat.
So today I "prelogged" what I plan to eat today. Not everything, just the main things. I prelogged my cottage cheese and cantalope. As I am making hubbys' hugs bagel, with tons of peanut butter on it, the "impulse eating" that I do, almost decided I would have that also. But no ...... I had prelogged my cottage cheese and cantalope, and thats what I am having And I am sitting down eating it ... so a real meal. So a small victory for me, well, at least for lunch3 -

For myself, I am working on trying to continue each month's challenge each day . ... because these are all things that will improve our lives everyday .... not just while trying to lose weight. I know all of these things are so important in obtaining, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
As a reminder, here were the challenges so far:
April challenge -- drink at least 8 cups of water each day
May challenge --- go outside for a very brief time for a short walk --- minimum of 15 minutes. This could just be a walk around the block ..... just being outside, enjoying the fresh air will change our mindset. These short walks help me mentally as well to sort out the day and clear my mind of any negative thinking, etc.
June challenge: If you’re feeling the slightest bit emotional and want to eat—or it’s even time to eat—force yourself to either do something else or to eat something healthy and wholesome. And report it on here. Not only will it help us, but it also will give others ideas to stop that urge.
And here is the July Challenge: The nite before you go to bed, PLAN your next days meal. If you don't have time to plan the entire day ... just the main meal so you know what you are wanting to eat.
Even if it is just ONE meal. For me, I know this will help so much. I struggle with planning ahead, so what I am hoping to do, is to take the time before I go to bed to figure out what I am having for dinner entree. Breakfast and lunch are usually easy for me, since I tend to eat the same things. But dinner is always hard ... first because I work out of my home, and when I don't plan, that leads to stuff like ordering a pizza, or popping in a frozen pizza, or something else. Its get to be dinnertime, and I have no idea of what to cook.
I know many of you are already doing this, but I do know this is key to helping us maintain a healthy lifestyle.
I plan on trying to do all 4 challenges each day. This is how I plan to record them:
Challenges:
July 1: Water; Walk; mindful eating; planning
(And I will put a smiley face after each one I can complete).
Is this too much? Would you guys like to join me? Even if you can just join me in the planning ahead part?

I have to say I find Judith Beck really annoying. I particularly find it annoying that when I am about to do something I shouldn't food wise, I hear her (disapproving) voice in my head. I have no idea what her voice sounds like, in my head it sounds like my mother's.... (Which is very unlikely given my mum is English and JB is American!)
Despite being utterly irritating, she is often right...5 -

April challenge gave me success in June challenge today! Was very hot so I made sure I drank loads of fluids and that kept me fuller than normal. Had a couple of stressful moments but found myself making the right choices. Great end to the week.

Re: the July challenge, I already do it, it's second nature to me now, in fact, I log the whole week's worth of meals when I do my grocery shopping. That way I don't waste produce because I can be sure of using it up. On the menu this week: pancakes with real maple syrup, bean burritos, teriyaki noodle stir fry, split pea soup, curried chickpeas over rice, tofu breakfast scramble, Beyond Beef burgers, lentil and kale soup with lemon, and lemon artichoke risotto topped with pistachios.
I did not adhere to my plan today, though. I skipped lunch in favor of a popcorn and coke zero at the movie theater. I meant to order a small, but the guy taking my order keyed in a large without asking and I was so flustered I said, "no I want a medium" instead of a small. My brain is cobwebby, apparently. But with a can of chili for dinner I can still make it work and end up in the green!
Count me as one that would love to see the Etsy shop and Bex's quilt, too. I have so little talent for things like that and I admire anyone that is skilled with a needle and thread.3 -

I find that right and irritating, far from being mutually exclusive, are often darn near synonymous.5 -
Really did some soul searching today around my "cheat day." Huge thanks to @nickssweetheart and @snowflake1968 for the amazing words of wisdom. Realized I really need some perspective. Ended up looking at what parts of the meal I really enjoyed, and was able to cut out the side of fries. I was then able to stay within my calorie range by adding only 15 minutes light biking. I really took your words to heart, and realized I still have a lot left to learn.

Up until after dinner I had everything logged and I have about 150 calories left
Then a went on a snacking spree, sooooo probably a couple hundred over now, but I have spend a lot of the day cleaning. Oh and PUTTING THE LAUNDRY AWAY *crowd cheers*
So even if I AM over, i won’t be massively over.
I’m just so tired, I feel run down.
Here’s my problem.
I go to sleep late, I know I do. Between 11pm and 1am. Normally just after midnight though.
So then I’m up six with the girls. All 3 of them.
On nursery days I stay up. On non nursery days I probably get another nap on the sofa whilst they watch tv, a disturbed nap but a nap at least.
The day goes on, we either go out or if we’re in I do try keep the place tidy. The kitchen really is my nemesis. Our dishwasher is being poop and I can’t figure out why. It does clean things but then one random item will be completely dirty still and sometimes there’s just “grit” on most of the other stuff especially the glasses.
So I feel defeated, I have to take it out, hand wash the things that didn’t quite get clean enough, then yesterday I go so fed up of it happening I pulled out all the drawers, re did the salt, the rinse aid, cleaned the filter, cleaned the spinners. Scrubbed the walls of the dishwasher and the seals. Sparkling. Loaded the dishwasher stuck it on. Same thing this morning.
So the day goes, as it goes, dinner comes along, this is where it gets tricky. I get pestered the whole time I’m doing tea, mostly by the girls. So then when I’m getting pestered I’m not cleaning as I’m going, it’s also sometimes the exact time Casey wants feeding so I’ll put tea on a low heat, feed her bottle, go back and whack the heat up and continue as normal. Anyway so after tea the kitchen is a mess. There’s food on the floor from the girls pots everywhere. Still not emptied the dishwasher because I just couldn’t face the dirty pots when I spent so long cleaning the damn thing last night.
Then it’s shower and bed for the girls. CNt even do baths anymore because they take too long!
Hair brushed, teeth brushed, cream on for eczema, PJs, hugs and kisses, no time for a story, like ever. And by the time I’m so worn out I haven’t got it in me. I feel awful about this but what can I do.
By the time I’ve done that I just want to get in bed. But instead I come down stairs. Look at the mess, feel overwhelmed and just sit down. I feel tired looking at it! Like “hit by a train” kind of tired.
Now seeing as I’m the “baby” of this group, please can some give me some wisdom on where I’m messing up here lol!!
Where am I going wrong to make my life easier?
My OH does help sometimes but it’s not something I want to ask him to help with because he does so much for me!
Soooo yeah. What can I do to make this easier and so I can get the kitchen clean without dying of exhaustion.6 -
I had a whole reply all typed to you and hit the wrong button!
When my girls were little I worked full time and my husband drove truck so I was on my own a lot.
Some cheats I used were:
1 towel per person for the week, I bought the girls their own beach towels and it was there’s only no one else touched it. Saved loads and loads of laundry!
As young as 2 my girls were picking up and putting away. This included clothes after laundry I had stickers on their drawers so they knew what went in each drawer. I lowered my standards for the inside. Lol
I baked a lot of food because I hated washing pots and pans. I never had a dishwasher when they were small and didn’t want my whole life to be spent in the kitchen so I most of the time only did dishes after they were in bed once a day. Again I lowered my standards.
I think the biggest things I did to help myself though were made the kids go to bed early so I had me time. Then I started going to bed earlier too.
It’s tough I feel for you, I still remember crying some days out of exhaustion, frustration and sheer being overwhelmed5 -
I'm starting over again and it's depressing. I need support badly
I lost my career job almost a year ago, had to adjust to a completely new schedule which makes it difficult for me to socialize because its a straight midnight shift. All I've done was continue to gain all 50 pounds back
I'm tired all the time and just need to find some way to get back on track.
I'm so badly out of shape, my right foot and calf is swelling like crazy. I think getting 10 pounds off by the end of this month will help with the swelling

This group is a great support system. I worked nights years and years ago I remember all the junk I ate just trying to keep the boredom and exhaustion at bay. Post goals and come back to let us know how you did. You were successful once you’ll be success again!

Hi everyone! I'm new to this discussion group, but I see it show up on the Message Boards often, so it must be a cool place to be I think I have the basic idea of "just for today," and I like that- taking it one day at a time. Sometimes I don't even get through a single day as planned, so if I can do that, the long-term seems more doable.
There seems to be a July challenge of planning our meals the night before. I don't always do this, but I usually do and it's easier when I do. Beyond that, do we make personal daily goals as well that either change based on how we feel each day, or do we try to be more consistent about goals just taking them one day at a time? Thanks for helping me get started!3 -

Oh dear Bex ...... my heart feels for you!! But .... I also remember SO much those days!!!! Complete exhaustion all the time. Our kids were 2 years apart, but for 3 years, to bring in extra money, I babysat 3 kids. So for about 2 years, I had 5 kids in our house, all under the age of 6! Our daughter was 5 years old when I started babysitting, our son was 3. I watched a ladies children who were 3 months, 15 months, and another little girl that was 6 yrs old. So believe me, I know what you mean... its something I remember all too well !! (I about lost my mind I think also .... but since regained it (I think
I don't know if the "advice" I have is something you already do, but here is what I used to do"
1. Go to bed earlier!! I used to go to bed almost when the kids went to bed. My husband had to be at work at 5-5:30 in the morning, and I always got up when he did, so back then, going to bed was easy. I would fall asleep at 9 at nite most nites. I know it will be hard for you to get used to ... but you do need your sleep. 6 hrs of sleep is not nearly enough for you with 3 little ones to take care of Bex!!! I know you are superwoman.... but just try it. Does your partner stay up late?
2. Have those little girls help you. The 3 and 5 year old ... while they may not do things perfect ... they would love to help. Even if it is stuff like washing dishes and drying them. It keeps them occupied and they feel "grown up" helping mommy. Yes ... you may not have totally clean dishes, but it really doesn't matter. The dishes would be cleaner than the dishwasher you currently have. Another idea ... just have a big sink of soapy water, and let the dishes soak while you feed Casey ... or put your little ones to bed, etc. Also, I always made our kids clean up their toys -- right after dinner. They would clean up their toys, take their baths, and if there was time left before bedtime .... they would have to look at books, or I read to them, or watch tv. That way, when they went to bed, the house was at least picked up -- well -- until the next morning!
3. My kids also helped put away laundry. This is something my son is making his kids do. Granted, his kids are much older, but when our kids did it... you would laugh! Their drawers were a mess ... nothing folded at all. We washed the clothes separately so they could find their own clothes... and they had to put them away. For your 3 yr old that might be hard... but I bet she could do.
But ... to do these things .. you have to get rid of the perfect, clean house.And the perfectly folded clothes. And the perfectly washed dishes. No one ever dies from these things not being perfect!!
Your kids will grow up so fast. They want their mommy rested, and not stressed out. There is a poem I'll try to find and post for you ..... but these things really don't matter. Hey ... even buy paper plates and cups (Yes, I even used to do that - especially when our son had colic his first 9 months).
But hang in there Bex!! And I hope I didn't give you too much "advice", but take it easy on yourself. You are such a great mommy!5 -

Welcome!!! You are certainly not alone starting over. If you look back through this thread ... you will see how often I "start over". I originally started this thread almost 3 years ago -- many of the posters have been with me for that long. Some of the habits that I have (like emotional eating) take a long time to conquer, and need daily encouragement and reminding. This is why, at least for me, this thread is so important. I lost 24 lbs last year, and this year, have been struggling to get those last 10-15 off. But I know without this thread, I most likely would have gained.
We are here to support you.
I know you can do this. You've done it once, you can do it again. For me, the concept of one day at a time is perfect, because everyday you can start over. The past is in the past.
You made the first step coming on here.
So please come back and let us know how you are doing! It takes a commitment ... and I hope you are ready to join us!4 -

I did go for a short walk this evening. I trained a chipmunk to eat out of my hand, he lives under the apartment building I suspect. Only took 800 grams of bribery to gain his trust

I think my most challenging aspect is the fact there is half a ton of junk food in the vending machines. Mostly chips, sodas, high calorie drinks, twinkies, hostess cup cakes.

LOL Hi Bex! Yea, I pretty much stay on the outskirts of conversations in person...I guess I do the same on here. :-) I have an Etsy shop...I do embroidery and sewing...mainly items for weddings, but I do other things too. Thanks for reaching out! :-)

I haven't posted a 6m goal, but my monthly goal is to lose 5 lbs each month. I've found if I go very slow with my weight loss, I'm able to stick to my plan much better.
My Etsy shop name is "occasionsbysarah" and absolutely take a look! :-) I've been at it since 2011 and was able to take it on full time (quit my previous full time job) in 2017. I love it!
BTW, your kids are adorable (from pics you've posted previously). :-) Mine (two boys) are 14 and 19.3 -
SO JFT, SUnday, July 1st
1. LOG all food

3. pack for our trip to see our son over July 4th
4. Concentrate on water Did better -- but I still have 4 glasses of water to drink yet!
5. April challenge - water - plan to gulp down 4 glasses yet
6. July challenge - plan dinner -- see below. But, this morning I wrote down everything I "planned" to eat today, and pretty much stuck to my plan. It was hard, as I made hubby and peanut butter bagel, and almost was going to eat one instead of my planned cottage cheese and cantalope. But having already wrote it down did help me.
Challenges:
July 1: Water ; Walk (storming outside!); mindful eating ; planning ---- my planning for the next 3 days will be to just eat as healthy as I can! We are traveling tomorrow to see our son in Michigan - a 8 hr car ride. We tend to stop at McDonalds a lot, so I know I can find things low calorie. My problem will be the rest of the 3 days we are there. But .... even though I can't plan ahead as far as "what" I will eat, I can plan ahead to make wise choices.
I most likely will not be back on here until friday --- I usually stay off the computer when we travel. But for all the US friends - I hope you all have a wonderful July 4th holiday! And for everyone else ... have a wonderful week.
I am anxious to see our son and grandsons!
