Welcome! Warm wishes going your way. Come here as often as you need. It's great that you set a goal. I think that helps at first. When you say, "less", I think your brain doesn't quite know what less is, but when you define it, you are on your way!! xoxo5 -
Thanks for your support!3

Well, I made it! The whole weekend with zero alcohol. Sunday during hours of bbq and good company was the most tempting, but the promise of hitting 225 on the scale by Wednesday or Thursday, sustained my resolve, and I had the best sleep last night that I have had in several weeks.
A couple of months of this and I will be richer and lighter! LOL13 -
@JulieAL1969 I appreciate everything you've done so much and wish you all the best going forward!4

Hello everyone!! Just checking in to say HI I put some of my saved $$ from being AF toward an A/C unit for my sweltering apartment. I've never had A/C in my home before & would have continued to tough it out with a fan, BUT my dog is 10 now & considered a senior in dog years. He has been having some difficulty breathing in the heat. It's been an exceptionally hot summer in my area so far. Isn't it interesting that we'll do things for others that we wouldn't do for ourselves.9

Do you believe i still feel nauseous four full days after my binge drinking birthday night? Over the last four days, I've had waves of nausea , headaches off and on, very anxious feelings, depression, etc. I am happy many of you are welcoming our new friends. I seriously feel poisoned. I must have had alcohol poisoning more than I ever experienced before. And my sleep for the last four nights has been disjointed as if I am still drinking. Just sayin'
Sorry to be a downer. But it is another wakeup call for me. I will get back to my journaling, so I dont forget all of these negative consequences I earned after a night of fun.
@kittybenn thanks for your sweet words. You have been with us right from the start. Xo
@Westschmeis Sounds like you had a healthy weekend. Bravo!
@SpanishFusion Good point about setting a clear goal. Just like weight loss, we have to write a number down to aim for or it's too easy to waffle.

@ErynVee That is a strong reminder that alcohol is a poison and a depressant. I look forward to hearing how you'll feel over the next few weeks without it.

I've been sober since 08/13/12 and pray I will be forever/one day at a time. What was at one time a great love affair between alcohol and myself ended in severe depression wanting to die. Knowing I needed to quit drinking but couldn't stop drinking. I had no idea how I was going to stop and find other ways to cope. I had to do something. I sought help and continue to live in a solution.
There is help...if you need help seek it...I'm always willing to help so reach out to me. I'd love to help you. Had it not been for me seeking help I wouldn't be here today.
Thanks for your inspiring words. You went through hell and it's amazing to hear how good you feel today. Xo

Ginger is my go to for nausea. Ginger ale works like a charm for me. I keep pickled ginger in the fridge now that I am trying to lose weight because it is less calories but it is sometimes harder to find.
I have known other people who have been hungover for days after drinking and especially if they have had sugary foods with it for some reason. You should feel better tomorrow though. I have only known one person to exceed 4 days and he attended a 3 days bachelor party where they only stopped drinking when they slept.
I am sorry your birthday night festivities have come at such a high price. I am starting to think that bartender didn't deserve a hug. I hope that last line was worth a smile...6 -

I am smiling! Thanks! I will look for ginger ale in our fridge. I just had a Klondike Bar; I'm sure that will work, too. LOL Xoxo2 -
Wow Julie, I have had 2 day hangovers before, but not 4 days. Hope you feel better.
Maybe I didn’t read thoroughly, did you actually have alcohol poisoning?3 -

Good job. It feels good to achieve a goal and you should be proud.

Usually when I have come off daily drinking I wouldn't be hungover the first day but I would be hungover for 2 to 3 days afterwards.
@JulieAL1969 A Klondike bar is definitely a good cure.2 -

Ice in his water bowl can help if the AC hasn't been installed yet.

We have AC, and I put ice in my dog's water. He's 13, very old for a big dog. It really does help.2 -
Day 167 according to my Nomo app. (Haven't checked it for a while.)
I went for lunch with a bunch of workmates today to celebrate one of their birthdays, and suddenly found myself in a social situation where nearly everybody was drinking bubbly.
I just drank water. Success! This is compared to two weeks ago when I turned down a work function due to fear of a social situation.
I noticed I was actually worried about drinking, rather than wanting to drink. The drinks didn't look tempting, but rather, a bit scary.
I'm pretty happy about that!12 -
Wow, I didn’t know this existed
I’m an alcoholic
Decided it was too much when I found it impossible not to drink at 8am
For alcoholics it has to be all or nothing
I’ve done the all
Having a go at the nothing
I’m one week in
:-)
Cold turkey all the way20 -

Yes, good for you!! A agree that it is nothing for the alcoholic. I drank anytime I wasn't working, being sure to stop 2 hours before, lol (like it really was totally out of my system). I wasn't always like that and drank heavily in college and was able to take years off and drink moderately or not at all. Eventually some 30 years later I just couldn't stop. It didn't make sense to drink anymore when you can't stop especially when you are drinking in response to stress and trying to relax, like I was. My opinion is that drinking is for celebrations like weddings and not to get drunk. Of course if you can't stop, that is different. Drinking is not necessary for survival. I don't dare drink now especially with the stress I am under. I am done actually and at one moment at a time. It will be 6 months on next Monday the 23rd. I remember when I couldn't stop for 24 hours. So congrats on your success so far!!!!11 -
No much for me to report personally. I still consider myself a moderate consumer even though my consumption is zero at the present moment. I am still living under the same rule that if I can come up with an upside/benefit to drinking tonight I will. That is going to continue to be a tough sell since weight loss is a bigger priority.
When I was reviewing the April thread it occurred to me that at that time I was measuring myself against other moderate drinkers and what I think society considers to be too much in one evening. I wonder if I was putting too much pressure on myself considering my goal was only two evenings per month. I also wonder if that added pressure help caused some of the slips. That has given me some new things to think about but I haven't gotten it all sorted out in my head enough to post any of it (you get a reprieve for now).8 -

Hanxiety- Just read about this online. I have been having anxiety for the last three days- I never felt this way. Even after I worked out, I still felt anxious. I have a propensity for anxiety but always have managed it pretty well, but I can see alcohol exacerbates it. Just working my mind around things today.
@salleewins Congrats on six months! Amazing progress.8 -

Keep going .... one day at a time. If you're not in a recovery program please seek out some meetings in your area, get a sponsor, work the steps and help others. Your life will do a 180!!! Much love friend... Tiffany sober since 08/13/125 -

HUGS. This sounds so familiar to me. I used to have this terribly after I would drink. I used to drink 5-6 days a week.
Since I've been sober my mental health has VASTLY improved. I'm not perfect but so much better than where I was.
If you ever want to talk I'm here for you.5 -
Day one goal met! ONE small glass of wine with dinner. Feel proud this morning.12

Wow, thank you for posting this!!!! I feel like this has been a major problem for me. I am an anxious person by nature, and really think this “hanxiety” (among other factors) has helped to keep me in a low, anxious place. The sleep thing is so spot on too. It all is.
I look forward to how good I’ll start to feel mentally after I have more time alcohol free!5
