@RunnerGrl1982 - yeah, sometimes they just go like that. Hope it makes the next one feel awesome for you.
@katharmonic Thank you! I certainly hope so. Wednesday's work out is a pretty short and intense run, so I'm thinking it will be alright. I'm looking forward to it.Speaking of churches, I ran past this church on my route and just as I stepped down on the sidewalk in front of it, the bells chiming the hour went off loudly. It nearly scared the pants off me and I thought for a minute it was some kind of heathen detection alarm I set off.
This made me chuckle quite a bit. I would absolutely be thinking the same thing if that had happened to me. XD Nice job on your run!

These made me laugh... I used to harbor lingering feelings of apprehension and retribution about ditching church a long time ago, but when God showed me Merrell running shoes and long empty trails, I realized that he didn't like church either.

i like both but not gold Jesus. stone Jesus, wood Jesus, maybe even acrylic Jesus. but gold Jesus seems a little too close to the the golden calf.
i love a good Mass outside. a few of those happen around here. I considered running to Mass but i think i might look like such a hot mess they might think i'm fighting a demon inside4 -
@LaDispute57 I've heard that the blood in urine issue is more about rubbing from an empty bladder... they say to not urinate right before a run, or at least to drink a little bit if you absolutely must (not sure how that is going to fill your bladder so quickly, but that is what I heard).
For me, I didn't drink that much for the first part of the run and it was pretty cool. As I went on, I started adding electrolyte tablets. I had 2 bottles for a total of 24 oz. to start. I had 1 Nuun tab before starting (on the drive, with a separate water bottle), added a 2nd in one of my bottles pretty early (mile 5?), and then added 2 more at around mile 14-15 (too little too late). I finally re-filled both bottles from a fountain just before mile 17 and added yet another 2 electrolyte tablets. But by then it was way too little too late. I stopped after 19 miles instead of 20 since I had that extra mile earlier in the week. At that point, my calves were really hurting. I took more electrolyte tablets right after finishing and throughout the rest of the day.
It was a really good run and I took a look at splits. Mile 15 is where things really appear to come apart from a pace standpoint, and that sounds about right. I took almost no breaks (just stoplights and 1 pee break) up until I was taking more frequent walking breaks and frantically trying to dissolve Nuun in the little bit of water I had left until I could refill. This is something I need to deal with much more pro-actively in the future.5 -
Temps have cooled down which made for a great run this morning. I intended to do 4 - ran 7 instead.
Tony is giving me the stink-eye though. The last few times he's run with me, he's ended up lame for a couple days. Seems to be a hip and/or hind-leg issue. So yesterday and today I took him for a mild 1/2 mile walk, deposited him back home, and then ran without him. He's caught on and is not happy about it.

@biketheworld speed demon gets mad when i put on my running shoes and belt but not the leash. she gets very vocal.speed demon (4 years)
my old girl doesn't get to come when it's hot since she's sooooo furry. but she used to do long runs with me. did 17 with me. but she's old and gets tired after three really. she won't admit it. she gets sulky when speed demon and i go out and she doesn't get to come. when we did six, i kept tripping over herold girl (11years) yes she is watching tv7 -
@midwesterner85 I read that too and I think that was the issue. Even after all the running I have done, I still don't have a "tried and true" approach to hydration/electrolytes on long runs and races. Like I have mentioned before, I have had my most success with steady, solid intakes of Tailwind, but I am apparently incapable of making the right adjustments on the fly as conditions change and I end up battling leg cramps, dehydration, light-headedness and blood where I don't want it. Ahh well.... the joys of running....3

I have been looking at the Packer and Brewer races for years. It's just hard to get back to Wisconsin. Plus I have several in my hometown I want to do too. Lol
So genius me dumped an entire cup of hot coffee in my lap at breakfast. Burned through my jeans to inner thighs. So this is going to be fun for running! Most of the area will be covered but my thighs still rub together. Ugh.6 -
Oh the prime day question. I bought some books, art markers, dog treats, and a wonder woman blender bottle.1
-
I am envious reading about these Packer runs... even though I lived in Wisconsin for about 12 years, I never made it to Lambeau. I don't get back there too often although my oldest daughter lives out there... I have driven out there to do the Glacial Trail Ultra 50M in Greenbush, and want to do the Kettle Moraine 100 Endurance Runs in Elkhorn and the Dances With Dirt 50K in Baraboo, but I don't know if I can justify the drive for a 5k, even if it would be a chance to enter the sacred halls of the frozen tundra....2

I’d hoped to run a 5k this morning but after getting up about fifteen minutes later than planned I could tell it wasn’t to be. Since I started working from home I haven’t been used to having to stick to anyone’s schedule but my own (not that that doesn’t have its own issues), but I needed to be done by 7 to get ready for an 8:00 dentist appointment. So I set the watch for 24 minutes and did an out and back on the greenway instead of my planned loop.
The first mile or so my legs felt really heavy and slow, but the end felt pretty good, and I managed a negative split and a sub-10 minute mile pace for the last quarter mile. I’m starting to understand what I’ve seen people write here about how the further you run, the longer that warmup section gets.
I’ve been drafting this during my dentist appointment - I’m having a crown done, so it’s taking a couple of hours and plenty of time to think. I was thinking about how running mentally prepares you to do other tedious, unpleasant tasks. Not that I find running tedious or unpleasant most of the time, but there are definitely less than easy parts of most runs, and knowing I can push myself through a mile or seven does boost my confidence in my ability to make it through other things.
We're headed to Sioux Falls this weekend to visit friends and family and I've already planned out my run for Saturday morning AND gotten the spouse to agree to pick me up AND told the people we're staying with about it, so I'm committed! (Or at least, I should be.) I also planned an eight-mile route for when I get up to that distance - currently August 11, but things change. I kind of love planning runs and playing with my spreadsheet. I'm a nerd, not going to hide it.
Per the questions floating around, I resisted the urge to buy anything on Prime Day then ended up spending $60 at Gap.com this weekend after stumbling onto a 2-day 50% off sale. Two pairs of 5" compression shorts, two pairs of compression capris, and one pair of yoga pants on the way, hopefully in time for me not to embarrass myself sartorially at that yoga workshop I signed up for the first weekend of August. As for mid-year progress on end-of-year goals, that's a bigger post, but at least running-wise an easy answer - I wanted to sign up for and then run a 5K in October. Everything else was kind of "we'll see". I'd say it's going quite nicely so far.

@MegaMooseEsq I also avoided spending on Prime Day but dropped a bit on new Old Navy stuff.
I am in Calgary! Husband left 30 minutes ago to drive back to Edmonton, drop off the courtesy car and pick up the SUV. I don't speak car, but something called the torsioner broke and then the drive belt slipped off and shredded itself. Somehow we didn't lose engine power or power steering, which google tells me could have happened. Warranty is covering about half the cost which is also good. So maybe $200-250.
Tomorrow I will run. Not sure where or when, but we have 14 hours to make a 6.5 hour drive. So I'm thinking somewhere green and mountainous, preferably with a stream or lake beside it.7 -
@RunsOnEspresso - I looked at the art pens and decided I really didn't need another set of those or the colored pencils. I wish I would have thought of dog treats! I did also order a cooling mattress for Hobbes and one for my daughter's lab. She doesn't have air conditioning in her house in Seattle and it gets so warm for him on weeks like this when it is hitting the 90s there. Unfortunately they don't seem to have a delivery date yet, which is really strange.
@LaDispute57 - none of my credit cards work with the Amazon points program, mostly because I get airline or hotel points which we use for free trips and stays. It would be nice though to get free Amazon stuff like those copper skillets or running shoes!
@biketheworld - Hobbes was very upset with me when I didn't take him 2 days in a row... he ran out the doggie door to 'catch me' and waited at the gate watching me leave and proceeded to pout when I got home, not reacting to me at all. Lol - they are so funny and temperamental!
@MegaMooseEsq - I think running does give you confidence in so many ways - it (and losing weight and getting stronger) certainly did for me in all aspects of my life!
I think you have plenty of company on being a run nerd! I used to check the surroundings at every hotel before my business trips just in case I could get out for a run rather than the gym in the hotel. I also have spreadsheets going back to when I started running in 2012 and a composite one across all years comparing my miles, pace and weight
Awesome find at the GAP - I used to have a pair of compression capris from them that I really liked!
@mbaker566 - how do you post your pictures with the 'spoiler'?
For electrolytes - have any of you tried Skratch Labs? They have hydration powder that I find to be very gentle on my stomach (better than NUUN) it has a pretty lite taste and seems to be very effective. I had never heard of it but my nutritionist recommended it. I am also using their energy chews for my mid race fuel.
I think we may just have to have a MFP Challenge meet-up/group run at the Packers 5k next year! @LaDispute57, if I can fly from California, you can make the drive!
Got up early and actually out the door 'earlier', before it got terribly hot out. It was already hot though and I was drenched by the time I got home (literally dripping from everywhere). Hobbes is wiped out and we have agility tonight. It is supposed to be 'cooled down to a toasty 90 by 7pm. Not sure how he will do running and jumping in that heat but the rest of the week is expected to progressively get hotter and hotter. We have an excessive heat warning out for the entire week! Good thing I am tapering so mostly short easy runs and we leave for SF on Thursday morning.

i started doing it so people who don't care about puppy pics don't have to scroll past. or if i have other awesome photos those that are interested can look, those that aren't can keep scrolling.
I'll drive up for the 5k3 -
Biked to the track for a short speed workout, then went to tennis camp.
I'm getting a good laugh from all of the church observations. I do find myself frequently feeling more connectedness with God when I'm out on a run in nature, than in some church services I've been to, and it can be easier to focus on things I'm working through while running... but since becoming a runner I also find my feet wanting to move more to the music when I'm in church, like my body's response is that running is a part of me and I should be running while singing. I guess it's all a part of who I am, and makes sense that things would "overflow" from one part of my life into other parts.
Upcoming races:
August 18 Chmielakowy Half Marathon (Krasnystaw)
August 26 Kolbudy 10k, Bąkowo (Kashubia)8 -

Prime question of the day: I bought 3 paperbacks that had been on my saved for later list anyway, a box of Nuun, and a $0.99 Kindle book that was free after the $1 reward from previously accepting slower-than-prime shipping.
Rest day today. Not terribly hot, but annoyingly humid out. I'm sure it would feel better if I were running.4 -
So my legs are still pretty sore from yesterday's long run. They were when I went out this morning, but seemed to be fine once they were warmed up. I only ended early this morning because of the GI distress, which isn't really an issue right now. Since the leg soreness has returned, I'm thinking I'm going to skip the remaining 5 miles on today's plan and not run again tonight.7

I think my runs are often the most prayer-ful part of my week. And that's not just the "please, God, don't let me die on this hill!" sort of prayers, lol. It's very meditative and I feel a sense of peace on the trail that is sometimes lacking in formal church. That's not to say that I don't want to go to church--it's a necessary part of faith for me--but being outdoors and letting my mind go where it will seems to lead to a sense of connectedness, as you say, that is hard to find elsewhere.8 -
I have a geeky non-run related thing to share. I'm so excited I can't contain myself. It's like getting my Hogwarts acceptance letter.
17 -
@seanevan10 that's great! I would be super excited as well.0

Completely agree. I haven't formally been to church in years, but I feel closer to God when I'm out there giving it my all!3 -
@shanaber I get the points because I have an Amazon card. And if you are going to fly in from California and you want me to drive from Pittsburgh just to run a 5k at Lambeau, we better find another longer race nearby around the same time or at least plan a long trail run.... Driving 750 miles to run 3 is tough to justify... lol4
