No run planned today... too much bank fighting on schedule (yes, we moved into the house last week, but still have closed). Tomorrow, tomorrow I plan to get a run in. Hopefully, it works...4

OT bummer post today, y'all - instead of lifting this morning I had to take my dog Bowie to the vet. He's an 11-ish year old mutt my husband adopted with his probably brother when they were about three. All the "probably" and "ish" is because they were found abandoned on a roadside so we don't know anything for sure. Anyhow, Bowie has had a heart murmur for about five years that turned into full on congestive heart failure about six months ago. We've been medicating him and he's mostly still been a happy guy, but he took a big turn for the worse last night. The vet gave him a booster and we're waiting to see if it gets his respiration down, but if he doesn't respond we're in hard-decision land.
Just so I'm not totally OT, they actually were partly responsible for my getting into running. Last summer the other one (Iggy) was attacked and almost killed by a larger dog and as part of his recovery I started walking the two of them frequently. Those walks turned into walk-run-walks, then mostly runs, then I started leaving them at home and running on my own because they're actually pretty bad running buddies. Still, if I hadn't discovered that I liked starting the day with a brisk walk, I might never have gotten to where I am now with running.
This is him hiding from the new kitten last fall. He's mostly gotten used to her by now (he's the one closest to my leg in the photo below).23 -

Awww... Poor sweet fur baby. I hope the medication helps.0 -
@MegaMooseEsq hope he responds to treatment. always a hard time0

@MegaMooseEsq I am so sorry to hear! It is so hard when our buddies are not doing so well. Hopefully he responds well and you get to hold off for a few. None of my dogs are very good running buddies, but I sure do love them!2

I'm guessing terriers in general are tough to run with - not only do mine have short legs, they're always dashing off one way or another! Thanks for the good wishes, everyone - Bowie's breathing is a little slower than it was this morning, so fingers crossed that it keeps going down and we can have another few good weeks!2 -
@skippygirlsmom Hooray for no stress fracture!
@HonuNui Boo to chickens who turn out to be roosters...but he's really cute, for a rooster.
@MegaMooseEsq I hope your Bowie-pup responds to treatment and starts feeling better. My dog is also not a good running buddy, but I love him to bits.
Today was muggy and awful and I wound up having to take a lunch to my forgetful daughter at camp, so I looked for the nearest planet fitness and ran on the treadmill. It's amazing how a place that looks the same no matter what can look so different. I liked that this one seemed to have the AC set to something approaching a comfortable temp for running--although they could use a few more fans. Anyway, I ran a couple of miles and tried to bump my speed up a little (so about 13:09 per mile, vs the 14 and change I've been running outside). I think I'm going to use these treadmill runs to do my speed work, since I have so much more control over the incline while I'm building up. Since I hate the treadmill so much, it gives me incentive to "finish" my run faster, lol.

@MegaMooseEsq I'm sorry to hear about Bowie (awesome name!) I hope he pulls through. Hard to see our babies (fur or human) sick.0

Another 90% humidity/threatening thunderstorms morning so this one was on the treadmill. I felt surprisingly good during and after, so I'm feeling like my new shoes just may be working out well. We'll see how the long run test goes this weekend, plus I have a 5k race on Saturday. It's been quite a while since I've run a 5k so I'm kind of curious how it will go.
Upcoming races:
7/28/18 Chocolate Challenge 5k, Syracuse NY
8/19/18 Falmouth Road Race (7 miles), Falmouth, MA
8/26/18 18.12 Challenge, Sackets Harbor, NY
10/28/18 Marine Corps Marathon, Arlington VA7 -
@MegaMooseEsq I’m sorry to hear about your pup. I hope he continues to improve.
Thunderstorms all over here this afternoon. I’m going to just do some strength training here at the house and do today’s run tomorrow. It will give me an extra day of recovery after Sunday’s long run.1 -
@shanaber Sorry for sending the heat your way, but feel free to keep it!
@Teresa502 Boy, with temperatures that low, I would have called work to tell them I'm not coming in...more important things like running to do, lol.
@skippygirlsmom Glad to hear it was just tendinitis!
@amymoreorless I'm not totally jealous of that water fountain, nope not one bit. Ok, maybe a little bit. And by a little bit, I mean a lot.
@MegaMooseEsq Fingers crossed for Bowie.
This morning, the temps actually came down by quite a bit to make for probably the most enjoyable run I've had in a long while. Hopefully, things stay this way for at least the rest of the week, but we'll see.

@MegaMooseEsq I'm sorry about Bowie, I'll keep happy thoughts for him.0

Put me in the "hate the treadmill" group... I have not run on one in over 3 years... I have running gear to accommodate all weather conditions and temperatures4

@garygse LOL. I had one friend who ran on a cruise ship. His activity looked like a speeding bullet with tiny loops on it.
@MegaMooseEsq Hope your pup does better! And Bowie is such an awesome name.

Aborted dreadmill attempt at intervals. Was supposed to do five 400+200, finished two and bailed. I think my gym is too hot for actual running.
It did finally stop raining, though, so 20k cycling in store for today.
Upcoming races:
20181027 Mogan Ultra 30k
20181118 Shanghai Marathon (maybe)5 -
It's yucky here in Calgary today and my husband remembered baby wipes so I'm currently dressed in running kit for our road trip and will run mid-journey. Maybe Lake Louise.
@juliet3455 I think I'm running that section of the river valley trails for MEC race 4. Next time you are in town check out the Edmonton Trail Runners FB page. They do group runs a few times a week. Once I'm done my half marathon in August I'm planning to start doing the Saturday Snakes & Ladders runs with them since it's at social pace and I'm a turtle.
@sarahthes Actually I ran into a group of the Edm Trail Runners at the little hidden gem Whitemud Park just off Fox Drive. I asked them for directions for which trail sent me down to Snow Valley. A great group of people. On my return trip they invited me over to the fire and BBQ they were having, had to decline since I still had a few km's to go and solid food was a bad idea.
I agree with @hanlonsk Skip needs her own account - just so she can keep @skippygirlsmom motivated8 -
@garygse - Thank you... it it the gift that keeps on giving. 😅
@MegaMooseEsq - I hope Bowie is doing well. He is definitely in my thoughts too!
@amymoreorless - I didn't't record a run in Strava but maybe I should post my dog beach pictures from today anyways just for the kudos
Tomorrow is supposed to be the hottest day of the week but I am hoping to get outside for a short run early in the morning. If not I will head to the gym and get on the treadmill. I have been having fun running intervals on it but can't run intervals tomorrow... I only need 3-4 miles hopefully I can manage that! Then Thursday we head off to SF! Supposed to be a high of only 68 on race day! WhooHoo!!
