@Elise4270 you look great! But we are our own biggest criticizers.
@mbaker566 I can't get over how happy speed demon always looks. And yes she is mighty cute.
@dreamer12151 Used to live in Tampa. Was probably the tannest I've gotten in my life. Didn't run at the time but I'm guessing it's pretty hard to do about 11 months a year...
@RunnerGrl1982 yeah that happens to me a lot too, especially in the mornings. Evening runs are much better. Just... dunno, take it easy until your body wakes up?
Congrats to everybody making goals. I won't be one of you this month but cooler weather is only two months away9 -

Lovely weather this morning for a little shake out run right around 60F. That is until I needed a bathroom, there was none to be found and I got myself terribly lost! Starbucks saved the day when I found it and I ended up not far from my hotel! Spent the rest of the day at the outlet mall walking all over wit m daughter! Will catch up here later...

@zdyb23456 Great run!
@Elise4270 it's ok, you can eat that!
Ticker is my goal for 2018 and progress to date:
So did I temp fate, or foresee disaster?
To readdress Amazon Prime day purchases: I found a nifty little egg incubator to use since my "she" turned out to be a "he," and was hoping to breed my handsome rooster....
....and I also found a smoking deal on an Essential Phone.....the same one I use which has 128gigs of memory and NO bloatware. It was such a great deal I snapped it up, because one of us will need a new phone eventually.
Eventually was apparently yesterday. We spent a lovely day at our favorite beach. DH actually got warm enough to go into the water.

Package pickup last night... dodgy sleep and troublesome guts... driving out to the starting line now! Hopefully we get to watch the ultra runners start

No run for me today. Hanging out with my parents. Finding a lake to fish at close to Elizabethton and heading to the range in Piney Flats for ammunition therapy. Hagd all esp those racing today.4

Chocolate Challenge 5k today! I haven't run a 5k since last October and really wanted to get an official time under 30 minutes finally. I had unofficially done it during the Corporate Challenge 3.5 mile race at 28:51 according to my Garmin. But the course today was hillier whereas the CC was completely flat - but I had run a half marathon a few days before it.
There was a short downpour right before I left my house, so I scrambled to grap a hat and jacket just in case. But weather turned out to be pretty nice considering, at only about 66 degrees at the start. Very humid though, so I felt pretty sweaty just after doing a short warm-up jog.
They changed the course within the last week due to construction issues, and it was a bit confusing and loopy. Some people doing the 10k had problems with either the course being short or long, which may have been due to confusion on how many loops to do. The 5k measured right on for me. It was on a college campus and covered every kind of surface pretty much, though mostly on roads. There were some hills, with the worst one being up a sidewalk path near the end of the race. I felt like I had lost my shot at getting a PR at that point but was trying not to look at my watch. The good thing was as soon as we got up the hill and turned the corner, there was the finish. I sprinted it up and crossed at 28:34 official net time. Woo hoo! I felt like throwing up for a minute but recovered quickly and then grabbed all the chocolate offerings. Most of which I saved and brought home with me, but I had an ice cream bar and some brownie bites with my banana. I'm excited to have a Hostess Suzy Q for later - haven't had one of those in years.
Results posted showed I finished 5th in my age group (out of 53), so I'm super excited. It was a small race of about 375 people in the 5k, quite a few walkers, but still my best gender and overall finish percentile so far. It was fun and supported a good cause, so a very good day.

Congratulations @katharmonic ! Loved the recap. And chocolate? Better than running for a banana!0

I am way behind but wanted to comment on the tri discussion @rheddmobile, @_nikkiwolf_ and others were having... I have thought about it too. Can do the running and swimming but not the biking! Oh - I can ride a bike but never learned how to work all the gears and the braking scares the *kitten* out of me! Not to mention that the seats are so uncomfortable!
I grew up swimming competitively as did my daughter. The most important thing I can tell you for basic crawl is to use your legs to flutter kick. Get that down first (hang on to the side of the pool and kick, float with your arms in front of you or holding a kickboard and kick) Then add in the arms making sure you are reaching out in front, cupping your hands a bit and pulling back, keeping your head down. To breath, turn your head (only) to the side and not twist your entire body. You can practice the breathing with the kicking too (holding the side of the pool, kickboardc, etc.) The kicking though is what helps you maintain the buoyancy in the water and makes the stroking/breathing part easier.8 -
@katharmonic well done! Now share that chocolate with the rest of the thread!1

Theres always the aquathlon! My bike seat isn't uncomfortable, with a good seat and bike shorts it quickly becomes acclimated.
I used flippers to learn to kick. For the longest time i swam with my upper body only. I added the snorkel so i can focus on cardio endurance, but now i cant dind that breathing rhythm. Haha!
You can learn to flip through the gears. With todays bikes they are paddle shifters and so easy. Where my middle finger rests on the mountain bike, is "harder". Not hard to remember 😅 i think you'd love cycling.3 -
@katharmonic very nice 5k! Great AG place and overall finish.0

Congrats @katharmonic on your race! Way to finish strong!! That's wonderful, go on and enjoy yourself!0

Thank you to everyone who has provided some much needed reassurance and advice towards my running. It's much appreciated!
I ran 5 miles today.....SUPER HAPPY.....and tired AF. This is my longest run of the year so far as I've been trying to slowly build myself back up since shoulder surgery last year. I only needed to take a brief walk break after I crossed the 4 mile threshold, but then I just powered through the rest and finished well. I may have been slow, but I was more encouraged by my even breathing and the fact my legs were still in good shape by the end of my run.
There's only 1 run left in July and I'll have broken through 50 miles! Yippee!
Hope everyone is having a fantastic weekend so far. Congrats again to everyone who surpassed their goals this month! It's been a joy to be a part of this lovely group - since I've been here the past few weeks. Big hugs to you all. Looking forward to August!
