Name something that was easy for you to give up

Drinking my calories. I can't believe I wasted so many calories in juices and calorie laden drinks. That was so easy to give up because there are low/no calorie drink options.

Smoking. I was sharing an apartment with a friend who didn't want me to smoke inside. So, I smoked out on the porch until winter came around. We had plastic up over the door to the porch, so that meant I had to walk down the stairs to the entryway, to smoke in the cold. Wasn't worth it.6

For me it was meat. I had wanted to go vegetarian for about a year but I just didn't know how I would manage not being able to eat chicken, tuna, pork etc and still lose weight/get enough protein.
Then about halfway through a six month eurotrip where I wasn't tracking any food, I just decided to stop eating meat. I've been back home now since January, I'm down 13kg, my protein is 80g+ a day, and I haven't missed meat once.3 -
I personally believe in everything in moderation, so I haven't completely given any food up. What's been really easy for me though, is giving up drinking alcohol at dinners out. I figure if I'm only going to have 1-2 drinks and not even really get buzzed, why waste the calories? My friends and I go to a taco tuesday every week as well as a trivia night and I'm the only one who doesn't drink at these events, and I honestly don't miss it all. I also don't drink at happy hour if I'm driving home. I will drink at parties or going out dancing on the weekend or something like that where I'm not driving.
This isn't really giving something up, but one thing that's been relatively easy for me is reducing portion sizes. 90% of the time, I'm perfectly happy with 5 chicken wings as opposed to 10 or eating 2 pieces of pizza instead of 5. I still get the taste but I don't have to deal with that overly stuffed feeling.3 -
I gave up making up an excuses.
I always had a reason to eat, and somehow I was always able to justify it to myself. No I wasn't snacking for the sake of it, I was hungry. No I wasn't giving myself a large portion, this is what normal people eat. Well I did do that massive training session yesterday, so it's totally okay to have a 4 person takeaway between 2 of us. No it's fine to treat myself once in a while, I know I said that yesterday, but I was really good last week ....
I don't anymore. I have to actually justify it properly. And I have to justify it within my calories. Once I changed my mindset, I found it quite easy.6 -
Weirdly- chocolate. I thought I was a real chocoholic but actually I don’t miss it at all.2

I have a snacking habit but it's fairly easy to give up on my trigger foods. Crisps: lots of cool brands in the UK (haggis & black pepper ftw! Or what Polish shops are selling!!!) but I don't feel like eating them when I'm not deficient in sodium. So that's an easy one: eat more salt. Nimm 2 hard candies: not available in the UK. Proper licorice doesn't exist either and my favourite Danish brand costs £10 per 150gr pot. While there's a Scandinavian shop a very short walk away selling them it's too expensive. So also easy. Good quality, high cocoa milk chocolate? Doesn't exist either. Phew. I'm one lucky sheep girl.1

I can't think of anything I actually "gave up". I did stop overindulging on things like Coca Cola (4-6 cans per day) and other snacks that I would eat so that the Coca Cola would taste even better.
Now I have an average about 2 Cokes (the regular kind) per week and an occasional snack.
Didn't give up sugar, processed anything or any of the other trendy things Big Diet, Big Fitness, and Big Click Bait says I should.
So as @kommodevaran says, if I had to pick something I actually truly gave up easily, it was food fear.

I've never been a drinker (alcohol) ... so I can go a year or two or three or more without even thinking about it.
However, I used to eat quite a lot of potato chips ... that turned out to be really incredibly easy to drop from my diet.

Same here! I like caipirinhas, and make lots of use of them on my annual business trip to Brazil. But the weather here just isn't good enough most of the time to enjoy them. A good gin or red wine? Maybe, but enjoying a glass alone just isn't fun. So very, very little alcohol.0 -
Toxic relationships!
I cleaned house. Got rid of the boyfriend, lost a few 'friends', and drastically limited contact with a sibling.
It was so much easier then I envisioned and I have no desire to return to the old ways.8 -
For me, it was fried food!! Now i feel sick in my stomach if i eat something fried.3

Giving up eating to much of everything. Eat half of everything now and it was easier than I thought.3

Not drinking my calories. I was so surprised that sugary drinks, soda and alcohol was so easy to stop drinking.
After I learned how many calories I was consuming drinking those things, I figured I would prefer to eat those calories instead.
Also for me, meat was very easy to stop eating. When I started I didn't even plan it. After a few days I realized I haven't eaten any meat and I kept going to see how far I could go. I'm still going and don't miss it.5 -
Fried food.2

I gave up eating crackers when I saw the calorie count and decided it wasn't worth it. They used to be a regular snack but aI rarely eat them even with soup.
I gave up drinking pop, juice, milk, hot chocolate and mostly drink water or unsweetened teas now because drinking my calories is not satisfying. It was a relatively minor change though.

I used to take 3 or 4 teaspoons in my tea or coffee in my early teens. Reduced it to 2 teaspoons and around 25 decided enough was enough and went cold turkey. I am now 39 and still don't add sugar to my hot drinks.
I also don't drink juice or fizzy drinks. Not sure when that happened but it just did.1 -
Too much cardio4

Smoking cigarettes. Smoked free for four years. At the end point, I despise it more than I was addicted to it. Went cold turkey and couldn't be more relieved.6

Bread
I have found other foods to enjoy that have fewer sugars and keep me fuller!
Basmati Rice
Quinoa
Oats
The list goes on!

Liquid calories, no question. Everything else I still want occasionally and occasionally make room for, but juices and smoothies and soda are gone without a single pang.2

As far as weight related, it was cream and sugar in my coffee. I used to drink a little coffee with my creamer, 3-4 cups a day. When I realized how many calories I was drinking I decided to give it up. Actually went cold-turkey with black coffee, took a bit to acquire a taste for it but my stomach issues cleared up immediately so that was a great bonus. Now I genuinely enjoy my coffee black, and only drink 1-2 cups a day because I'm actually getting a decent amount of caffeine now that it's actually coffee not coffee flavored cream.1

1. sodium (no adding salt, no processed foods, or condiments).
2. no artificial sweeteners
3. no sugar
4. no diet sodas or sodas
4. gave up alcohol (this took effort, but mattered).
Just a note for any “newbies” reading this post - none of the above has any effect on weight loss except maybe the 2nd #4 - if you don’t count the calories when drinking.7 -
Mindless snacking1

I can't think of anything that I've eliminated but it is easy for me to limit butter and cheese. I still use butter all the time when cooking, but I don't add it to my rolls, toast etc. It's just extra calories to me. And same with cheese. I don't use as much cheese as most people do, and when following recipes that involve cheese I typically reduce the amount. I just don't like things to be super cheesy. And I don't put cheese in my chili (it adds absolutely no value to me)1

Surprisingly, smoking. I just decided one day about two months ago that I was done and I haven’t touched one since. I get cravings here and there but I ignore them.2
