Hooray I am at Day 10 and feeling very determined. I have attended three AA meetings and each time, I feel content, enlightened, and brave. It’s good to be with company of people who can’t stop at one drink. This weekend, we are going to a wedding reception with my drinking fun neighbors. I will not drink. And I keep telling myself how great it will be to wake up sunday morning without a hangover. That’s a big draw for me. Enjoy the day!
One more thing, I wrote my four best friends a letter explaining that I am quitting drinking, how my brain works and how theirs is different, etc. Three out of four responded very positively and were supportive of my efforts. I went out to a fancy restaurant with my husband recently and he asked if it bothers me if he drinks, and I said not at all. But don’t you dare order an Old Fashioned. He laughed! He ordered himself some wine, and I ordered a mocktail and all went well.13 -
Happy August everyone! Happy to see old and new faces.
I had 22 AF days in July. I am going to aim for an AF August - I've never done this and want to prove to myself that I can! I also just want to continue to just feel good and reap the benefits. I'm finally getting to this point where I don't think about having drinks in the evening to relax, or feel the need to grab one when I go out. It's wonderful! For August I'm also going to try to do things that are overall just good for me - such as get enough sleep (something I've been struggling with during the work week), and refining some of my eating habits. I'd love to lose a few lbs this month, of course.
@JulieAL1969 - Congratulations! It sounds like the meetings have been a positive thing for you. And I know you will do great this weekend! Waking up without a hangover is SO wonderful!
@erikNJ - Have a good time in Denver!

Ready for an AF August! I haven't had a drink since July 6th and I've noticed a big difference in my blood pressure. My resting heart rate went from 95 bpm to 65 bpm (if my memory serves me correctly).9

Today is day one... again.
Have a great day everyone! Start where you are, do the best you can, treat yourself well no matter what13 -
Happy August 1, friends! May today be a fresh start for those who need it, and a continuation of good things for those who don't I am feeling "let off the hook" in some sense by this AF month ahead of me - weird how that works.7

Day one for an AF month! My goal is to lose 5 lbs of fat this month, and the only way that will happen is no wine while maintaining a consistent calorie deficit. Replace wine with weight lifting! Very alliterative neh??8

Good morning, Friends and Happy August! May everyone reach their personal goals this month. Mine is 100% abstinence as well as 8/16 intermittent fasting. There is going to be pain but I prefer the pain of discipline over the pain of regret and lately I have regretted EVERY instance of drinking that I've indulged in. @Julie I am so proud of you, Girl! Thank you for all you did for this thread. XXOO7

good morning and i'm grateful for this thread being here. I'm back on Keto and there's no/little room for alcohol on it. it's only two days in and i'm sleeping better already. I had less alcohol in July but really felt sluggish when i did drink. i don't intend to mess this up, because i'm going to try some tinctures in regards to my lymphoma and immunity. i see an herbalist tomorrow for this and i know that having alcohol will put the kaibosh on any sort of improvement.(if in fact there will be
thank you @Orphia and @JulieAL1969 !!12 -
It doesn't seem like much to some, but I finally resisted the crazy urge to have drinks last night. Despite daily talking about how much I hate it and it is literally standing between me and all of my goals. I did it! I feel like this is "the one" and all of my other goals will follow right behind!16

I'm IN for August!!! I started on Monday already, so today will be day 3 AF. My goals are to get back in to regular exercise and be excited about it, save money, and just over all focus on my health and family. I am also just really excited to feel good. I've gone through a bit of depression and anxiety last month and I'm hoping going AF for a while will help.
Glad to be part of this with all you wonderful people!9 -

Oh, the pain of discipline over the pain of regret is something I can relate to. I heard the click in my brain when I read your post. Best to you!! You can do it!! And so can I ... I think. Still haven't come to the point where I can picture myself AF forever. But I'm working on it6 -
Hello everyone, I'm happy to find this group. I started a Keto and Intermittent fasting lifestyle last month and i've been losing 3-5 pounds a week. Last Saturday, I went out for drinks with my girl friends and gained 2 pounds the next day and felt like crap. This AF month is going to be great!6

Happy August! Checking in to keep myself accountable. I made it through another day, which puts me at a whopping 2...😐. The sugar cravings are starting to kick in, but I'm trying to stay mindfull of it and keep my protein levels up. That seems to help. I got my full normal workout in this morning, along with a 3 mile run. My son has an orthodontist appointment this afternoon, which I'll let him drive to. He's nearly got enough hours to get his full licence...as long as my nerves hold out. Not grabbing a beer when we get home tonight might a little tougher.9

That is a big deal. There are some people still trying to figure out how to resist their urges enough to have their first AF day. I think about the few people that I have seen come through that tried and tried for several days and then we never heard from them again. I hope they found help. But that is not a reason to be a Debbie Downer it is another reason to celebrate these victories.
Besides you can't have a day two until you have passed through day one.
