This is me trying to cuddle all 3 of my babies! Jake is the white staffordshire terrier mix, Zoey is my chocolate lab, and there’s Luna our new staffordshire terrier/mystery puppy. 😊
Such pretty pups! Your couch looks like my bed... my pups are smaller, but still have to fight for space... love them all, tho0 -
Kathryn - we have had quite a bit of gagging/heaving at work lately. Seems a lot is allergy related. Best to take Gracie in to get checked out, in case it could possibly be something more...
I always want to try shakes, especially if they are yummy... but, they never fill me up as advertised... they do make for a great on the run breakfast. Hope JEEP weekend goes great!
Sara - did they find person of interest? That always worries me. A few years ago, there was a man on the run, very close to home. They had him in custody and he kept escaping. Thankfully, he is still locked up, now..
Tess - stay strong at conference... good job with NSV!
Waves to Lana!
Managed to get my walk in, yesterday. A bit warmer than day before. Probably my only chance to walk for a bit... temps to be in triple digits, soon... hello August!
Have a great day all!
Check in later...0 -
Kathryn on insurance hold........ if your car does not pass they give you a list of things that need to be fixed and 2 weeks to get it done and retested. Merry Go Round time.1

Hi everyone,
Sorry I have been MIA for a while, just really busy & have been depressed (guess it is that time of year).
My pup Mocha had to go to the vet & we found out he had gastroenteritis, so he had the medication and seems to be better now...this was totally my fault...I like to make homemade dog treats for them & saw one that was yogurt, bananas & peanut butter & thought this would be a nice frozen treat on a hot day...so I made them & between the two of them they ate about half an ice cube tray so I thought this is great!! then he got sick & then I remembered he doesn't do well with dairy....yogurt!! I felt so bad that I made him sick...my poor pup! Good thing he is forgiving...lol
We have inherited 2 black labs...big dogs for the next 3 weeks (SIL is out of town & we are pup sitting) it is sooooo funny to watch my little pups boss the big ones around...it's like you can come in this room, but don't even think about going into that room & if I get in the house before you I am not letting you in...lol The labs (Homer & Lady) are probably 15 years old now & just let the little ones do their thing & look up at me like are they for real...hahaha
I am still plugging away at my walking & on Fitbit I walked 98,000 + steps last week...ya me! I am shooting for the same if not more this week, but I am only at about 70,000 so far & am in first place again so we will see.
I hope everyone is doing okay & enjoying their summer.
Welcome to all the newcomers & waving to all the regulars in this fantastic club!
Lana~come to Winnipeg & you can take your pick as we are running a dog house right now...hahaha
Talk to you all soon,
~Saltine~1 -
Busy morning, then forgot to come here and laid down in bed during the huge thunderstorms.
Sara - I wonder if they ever found the guy?
Good for you with your evening walking!
Eryn - your new puppy is adorable!
Saltine - I will be taking the Cabana Club private jet to come up and see you in your House of Dogs!
Tracy - Yes, please stay connected with us even though you are not at all on program. It will help.
Tess - I applaud your NSV with choices at your conference. 2,200 people is a LOT of people: that must mean a LOT of food flying around....Yikes.
Dawn - I was not aware that Missouri can get into the triple digits. That's terrible. I guess you can eat lots of fruits and vegetables and good protein to counter-balance not getting as much exercise as usual. Drink your water, for sure!!! No dehydration.
I walked 2.7 miles today and did a whopping ten minutes in the pool between T-storms. Scale has been scary, along with my bad attitude. *kitten*

Saltine - don't beat yourself up about pup. You were trying to be helpful and give them a cool, tasty treat. It's amazing how animals can have a lot of the same issues as humans. Glad meds are helping. Never fun when pups are sick.. sounds like you have a house full... it cracks me up that the little ones usually rule the roost...hehe...
Lana - usually, July - August we see triple digits...the heat indexes really get us, quite often... good job with NSV of walking and swimming...hope your "kitten" mood is short lived.. more time on lounge chair with Leandro giving you shoulder and foot rubs!2 -
Just checking in, I had a “busy”yesterday and couldn’t get caught up at all with MFP. I am really struggling with my job, I’m being forced to sell and when I was finally able to get a quote request my VP quoted about 10 more an hour than the going rate. When I questioned it he told me to get business and then we could look at rates. Huh????
Anyway I played hooky yesterday and did nothing. I visited with a young lady who is starting a business and I’m going to be working for her soon. I cannot wait.
I had a great July even though I felt things were going slow weight wise. I lost 4.4 pounds and 2.5 inches. Hubby was happy to hear inched weren’t lost in the chest this time!
Last night I had a huge accomplishment. I swam from the deep end to the shallow end for the first time! I don’t think I’m confident enough for the other way yet, but I’m getting there.
Going to be away this weekend, going to see my best friend for the first time in 2 years. See you all Tuesday, have a great weekend.

FRIDAY
Good morning,
Fruit/veg box this morning, blueberries, pluots, grapes and carrots. Hmmm I see a theme here, bored with my fruit choices.
Up early with dog and box delivery. I thought I saw a pluot rolling on ground, it was dog's favorite toy rolling into kitchen - for me that is the best sign of my dog's health- she wants to play.
Leftover/frozen zucchini enchilada with black bean/rice for lunch. Dinner is ??? Regular weekend plans so wondering what I will make for lunches. Black bean burger "hamburger" salad was a big success, so that one is easy, maybe fried rice? I have pork and maybe chicken in freezer.

Happy Friday all! Just read this MFP Ask the Dietician blog on “How Do I Break a Cycle of Overeating?” The first point especially resonated with me and I thought of several themes emerging on this list - Appreciate Yoir Body. Accept your body, no matter what your weight loss goals are (or aren’t, at the moment). Look at ourselves with love and compassion, much like we are able to react to others who are having a tough time. (Personally, I’m kinder to others than I am to myself). Sharing the link in case it’s of interest:

Good morning All~~
Tracey - Congratulations on your excellent losses for July!!! Enjoy your weekend/visit with friend~~
Sara - Tillie has perked up and wants to play--yes, good sign of how she is improving.
Tess - Thank you for the link. I will be going there once I post this.

SATURDAY
Good morning,
Dawn- your Winnie doll is adorable. Does it have the scentsy packs inside like the other animals?
Air quality is unhealthy so windows are not open, too many fires. My regular list of errands today and then inside as much as possible.
Knitting and napping with any luck.
Wave to all who follow. BBL.1 -
Sara- yes, Pooh comes with a Scent Pak, straight from Hundred Acre Wood...hehe... unfortunately, they are on back order, so they are currently scent-less... hopefully, they will come soon...I was just as excited to smell the Scent as I was to meet Pooh
Stay safe out there!0 -
SUNDAY
Good morning,
Up with dog, more sleep for me with any luck.
Someone I know at a grocery store stopped to talk about the ashes. If you were in a hurry, you would not see them, but ashes were falling yesterday morning. About the size of dandruff. No extra walking for me. Good breeze yesterday and moon is no longer orange. Air still smoky.
Pork Fried Rice today - Black Bean Burger yesterday for Hamburger salad (have 2 leftover portions). Dishes and Laundry also on tap.
Wave to all who follow. BBL.1 -
Good evening,
Waiting for the timer to beep so I can put the rest of the pork fried rice in the freezer for lunches.
QOTW: With Monday coming what one thing will you work on to keep in better health?
AOTW: For me it will be walking after dinner / dog walk to get more steps in.
Wishing all a good night.1 -
amend my answer of AOTW - if air is safe enough to exercise in, tonight it is not. I found out in the gym they have a stationary bike, so that may be an option down the road.1

MONDAY
Good morning,
Weight down 1 pound. Nice change of direction. Apt with Dr Wednesday to discuss a new bp med.
Today is another red day for air quality will go and close window, and maybe no extra walking outside..... will focus on water intake.
Wave to all who follow. Make it your best Monday.2 -
Sara - wow! that nail color is BRIGHT! My all time favorite is OPI I'm Not Really A Waitress. (they always have the wildest names! that must be a fun job to come up with those!)
Dawn - I am working long days this week, so will have to depend on DH to get Gracie into vet. I thought she was doing better when we got home but turns out she is still having the dry heaves just slightly longer between episodes. Poor thing. I feel so sorry for her.
Survived the Jeep trip to TN. Let myself get too dehydrated and had to skip part of the trails, but did get to do a lot of fun stuff like wander around Brushy Mountain Penitentiary (used to be referred to as the Alcatraz of the Appalachians, and abandoned since 2009). Very neat & kinda spooky. Also took a run through an abandoned train tunnel that was over a mile long and run some mountain trails at night. I did not eat as well as I could have but also it was not as bad as it could have been. I just have to get back into a good routine.
I am very sore and tired. I have given up and reached for the caffeine to get me moving. Trying to get back into the habit of logging everything. I did not realize how much of a help that was. When I do log, it makes me much more aware of what I am eating and why (am i bored, actually thirsty, etc, etc)
Weight bounced back up to almost where I was when I started in this group, but am determined to get it back down again.2 -
Happy Monday, all!
Busy busy busy. Lots of meetings today and feeling pretty pooped.
Nice job on the loss, @Tilliesmommy1!!
And I’m sure you’ll get back in the swing of things, @hickchic67! Logging really does help. I need to more diligent in this as well!
Anyway! About to head to another meeting! Have a good one.

Dashing through....still running between appointments. Will BBL.

Good evening,
Crochet this evening. Have 7 hearts left to make by Thursday, and as I have Wednesday off, this should not be a problem, I will make more than 40.
Air is just too much (or too little) and I will walk dog after dinner, but otherwise we will be inside.
Lana -appointments are annoying but necessary. Hope your day ends well.
Wishing all a good night.1 -
TUESDAY
Good morning.
Now 2 large fires pouring smoke into the Valley. Lovely. Third red letter air quality in a row. Really not a good time to get exercise, so I stay quiet indoors. Just read that the red alert will be through Friday.
Boss gone all of week - so as I got to hear about her housing situation I decided she needed to hear about my feet, one boring story for another!!
Wave to all who follow. Lurking from work.2 -
Good morning All~~
Sara - The boss is gone all week; that's good. The fires and smoke in your Valley - not so good. I don't do any indoor floor exercises, so who am I to suggest them, but maybe just play on the floor with Tillie and get in a few leg lifts or whatever in place of your walking? Sounds awful, I know....
Waves to everyone else at the Cabana Club.....
Today is a travel back to NC home day. See you tomorrow.

so quick intro about myself. hi, my name is karina and i am a serial starter. i somehow warped he idea of weight loss into a joke and i’m done! i always commit and start and when i make my usual “slip ups”, i internalized that i’ve messed up so why not keep going and i’ll just start next week. granted some of my slip ups are more severe than other ones but that’s it. i’m comitting to a change and sticking to it. my issue isn’t lack of motivation, it’s lack of support. i come from a family where my lack of having a fridge without juice or a cupboard without carbs is a sin. should mention i’m doing keto. since moving out of my mom’s house, i’ve been able to adapt living a healthier lifestyle because i control what is being bought and stored in the house. however my boyfriend is another issue, we don’t live together so there is no influence there but when we come to each other’s house, first thing mentioned is you want to order food. i am a sucker for laziness so if i don’t have to cook, bring it on. the other issue with him is that when i’m on roll, he always offers to buy me food and i put my foot down and say no. when i say no he gets his panties all in a bunch which is honestly one of our only recurring arguments. i come to you guys for the support i don’t usually get in my every day life, in other words HELP!
sincerely,
karina
the serial starter2 -
Karina - start by finding habits you can keep that are not around food - drink extra water, increase exercise. Those you can control without getting into "food fights". Offer to go for a walk with boyfriend to burn off some of the extra calories?? Just a thought, but stop by when you can and tell us how you are doing.
Pea soup outside, dog not interested in long walks (no there is a hint about air quality). Sun yesterday morning was a large orange orb. 2 of the largest fires in our state history going on at the same time. Sounds like a science fiction novel.
Good thing (2) is that I now have time to knit before work and drinking extra water is a lot easier........1 -
Everyone here has been so inspiring and I appreciate you all.
May I tell you a story?
Let's start with TL:DR. Even well-meaning individuals can sabotage your goals and jeopardize your health if you listen to them.
My story:
About 5 years ago, on the advice of a REAMS test, I went gluten free. A year into the program, I felt better than I have in my entire life. No headaches, no brain fog, no joint pain, no tummy troubles, fewer skin problems, restful sleep in a shorter amount of time. I lost 80 lbs on gluten free, portion control, and yoga.
I remained steadfastly gluten free for nearly four years with only a bite or two slip up here and there. I always paid for those slips with immediate headaches. Flash forward to eight months ago, several people in my inner circle (meaning family members and others who claim to care about me) began to jump on the "It's a fad" bandwagon. Even my ersatz mother-in-law said to me, "I read an article that said unless you are actually diagnosed with that disease, you shouldn't do it."
I was doing Vinyasa/Warm Power Flow and hot yoga six hours a week. That coupled with an hour on the treadmill twice a week and a five mile walk on weekends were my chosen workouts. Not only weight but sizes dropped. Once I started exercising, I went from a size 22 to a size 6 in a year and I stayed under 200 lbs for a full year. This was the first time in my adult life I was able to maintain for more than a month. I was in the best shape of my life at 50 years old.
Despite the visual evidence to the contrary, multiple individuals mocked yoga as "not really exercise." I was so demoralized from the attacks on my chosen diet and routine, my mind said *kitten* it. I'll just eat whatever I want and to *kitten* with exercise.
In this six months, I have regained 60 of the 80 lbs. I can't get out of bed without popping Advil and BC powder and repeat every four hours until I can drag myself back to bed. I can't breathe because my sinus cavities are so swollen my eyes are bulging. My skin is erupting with painful, bloody lesions. My hair is falling out at an alarming rate. My legs and feet are so swollen that my blood vessels are bursting under the pressure. Pressure coupled with the anemia brought on by nutrient malabsorption have caused giant, visible, painful bruises. I currently cannot wear a shoe on my right foot without excruciating pain from the bruise on top of my foot.
Yesterday, I decided to eat as badly as possible. I had a fast food chicken and biscuit with tater tots for breakfast. Lunch was chicken strips, jalapeno poppers, and potato logs. Supper was a hot dog, a hamburger, popcorn, nachos, and ice cream at a ballgame. Actually, the only vegetable I have eaten in a while is raw carrots with my lunches last week.
Today is a new day. I plan to start slowly as I did the first time. No more gluten and restart portion control. Once I can comfortably wear shoes again, walking. I hope to work my way back up to loving an exercise routine again even though I will not be able to rejoin the previous yoga program due to finances. I will do what I can on my own and fight my way back.
If you made it this far, here is the moral: Don't listen to the voices whether they are internal or external. You have to do what you know is right for you.
Thank you for listening.

Unfortunately, I don't have a doctor. For over thirty years, I have been unheard and had concerns dismissed by every single practitioner I have visited. I no longer trust the medical profession. I'm pretty sure everyone has had a similar experience, once you are viewed as morbidly obese, everything else is hypochondria. Losing weight will solve all your problems per health care workers. No one wants to look at the root cause of why you are fat.1 -
Tracey, I hear you, just make sure you are getting the tests you need (ob/gyn, mammograms etc).
Speaking of which I am overdue with my mammogram, but waiting for the weather to "improve".2 -
Hi everyone! New to this thread, not new to MFP (had an old account that I've long since abandoned). Missed the forums. I'm 24, started and quit countless times since I was a teenager. Every new start was "this is it! This is going to be the time I follow through!" and then I lose steam and quit. But, I don't know. Something feels different now. I'm so tired of not liking what I see in the mirror, and not being the active person I always wanted to be. I've been back at it for almost 2 weeks now, took measurements this morning, and I'm excited to see the progress. One of my little goals, or motivations, is for the next time I go in to have my yearly check-up with my doctor. Last time I was there I had lost 7 lbs (without really trying) and she congratulated me on that. When I have to go in next time, I'd like it to be much more than 7 lbs!
Starting weight: Around 175, I haven't weighed myself since I started.
Goal weight: Probably around 120, but that's open.1
