Thank you for this thread. My 13 year old was trying on her uniform (back to school next week yay!) and was complaining about how her tummy s not flat enough for pencil skirts.
She's a healthy weight but poor posture due to cerebral palsy so I showed her this thread explained the ladies are a healthy weight and all have a little curve from those womanly organs
She perked up so I asked her why she thought her stomach wasn't the right shape........ Bloody magazines aimed at teens with photos of celebs
She's read them at friends homes, I buy her magazines like teen breathe that talk about the environment and self care rather than looks50 -

yep and tell her shes beautiful no matter what. everyone is special in their own way being different is better than being like everyone else.11 -

I am so thankful I am not a teen now, being bombarded with all these filtered and posed and digitally altered images of impossibly perfect standards of ideal female beauty. I can't think what that does to a young woman's self image.16 -

Even celebrities wear Spanx when they wear pencil skirts. Just like you don't see the photoshop that goes over the outfit, you don't see the support garments under the outfit!23 -

And for added funsies, standing normally (no thigh gap), simple pose shift, instant thigh gap! And I think it makes my boobs stick out more. Honestly, I don't think you can tell from the picture I'm standing funny, but you could in person.
I didn't move my feet apart at all. I just rotated my bum out and back, makes the waist smaller, the boobs stick out, and can fake a thigh gap, apparently. I went through a site (I think listed on here) where instagram models talked about how they posed....nothing online is real, apparently.43 -

Yup we spoke about spanks as it was mentioned on a show she was watching
We had a chat about Photoshop earlier today
A friend of mine put new pictures up on Facebook (shes put them on dating sites too)
In the picture she looks to be a UK 8/US 4 and about 21-25 years old...... We saw her last week she's about a UK 18/US 14 and looks about 40
That helped her understand how photos can be altered to hide reality
I even showed her the filters on my phone that can narrow the face, smooth out lumps and fix blemishes28 -

What an amazing thread! I have a flatter tummy time of the month. It is for a few days after my period has ended. Right now I am about 1-2 days pre-period and it is when I am most bloated. I just took a few pics. I will try to remember in a week/week and a half to snap some of the flattest time of the month.
I am 44 years old. No babies. My BMI is around 21.7. I have been lifting weights for a few years and also do some light cardio.
This is my post period pic where most of the bloat has dissipated. I wore the same pj's and tried to pose the same.

I just took a few pics. I will try to remember in a week/week and a half to snap some of the flattest time of the month.

Dang! It looks like you lost 10lbs between those two pictures. Yet, I assume, all you did was lose the bloat.
If memory serves me correctly I am about half a pound lighter after the bloating went down - so not a significant weight change!5 -
This thread is the best. It has certainly helped me reconfigure what "normal" really is and given me hope that I am not, in fact, made differently than anyone else.
In my head, I always thought/expected that pants were supposed to fit a certain way and because of some of the extra fat on my hips/back/some in my stomach, that I built "wrong".17 -
Finally able to flex and suck in after my tummy tuck. My 3 second diet before and afters.

I don't mind at all. And my first picture is a good visual on why I refer to my pre-surgery flap as a "sad sack of soggy kittens".
Just like this thread which shows what we really look like and what is normal vs posed, the other thread is also an honest recap of what post-weight loss skin removal is like and what to expect for recovery, it's not just a before and after.
I wish there were more threads showing what is perfectly normal for people to look like and experience.14 -

I do know BMI has to be taken in congunction with other body metrics, but as a lightweight myself, I think you are probably not at a healthy weight.

I am the hard gainer poster child, I have my father's physique. It has taken me over 30 years to gain 14 bs. Being underweight all my life was one of the things that motivated me to take up lifting as I was hoping to add muscle weight and, more importantly, increase my bone density.
My doctor isn't concerned at all, my health markers are excellent (other than hypertension, which I also inherited from my dad) and I almost never get sick.... the last time I had the flu was in 1983, and my last cold was two or three years ago!
I saw your pictures and never thought underweight. I saw muscle and lean. As someone who has dexa'd at 21% your numbers are my goal for body fat, but to be honest the other response is why I am hesitant to really push to lean out because I don't want the judgmental comments about it. You look great and keep up the good work building muscle.

as long as you are at a healthy body weight and fat percentage who cares what others say or think? you become the best YOU you can be. if people want to judge you thats on them. tell them you arent here to be judged.

No one is a "hard gainer" for any other reason besides behaviors. If you check out the weight gain thread talking about hard gainers and all the forums on the falsity of "naturally thin" it is simply because you don't eat enough. If you ate enough you would gain just as anyone would. It is other factors that make it "hard" to gain such as your behaviors that offset calories. I just think it is not right to say that being so underweight is fine especially since this thread is to promote healthy bodies.
I really don't want to derail this thread because you fantastic ladies have touched me deeply with your willingness to share. Yes, this thread is to promote healthy bodies and IMO @ythannah looks very healthy. She's worked hard to bring her BMI up and as long she has no adverse health consequences (still menstruates, etc) and her Dr. isn't concerned then she is probably just one those people with a very small frame that tend to straddle the line between normal/underweight. Let's not forget the BMI scale is arbitrary. There will always be outliers. Just as I asked outliers on the top end to post, I'm glad to see an outlier on the bottom end as well. And lets give her props for showing the even at an underweight BMI, SHE STILL HAS ROLLS when she bends over and plank belly.

@Urbancowbarn - that side by side blows my mind! I also have to say your tummy tuck looks amazing. I can't even see your scar in the first two photos. It's only because you are turned to catch a bit of shadow that I can slightly see it in the third. Your surgeon is very talented.
@bioklutz, @Noreenmarie1234 - thanks for posting menstrual bloating before/afters. Our weight along with our physical appearance can drastically change with our cycles. That doesn't mean we are not losing weight or gaining fat, just going through normal hormonal cycles.

@ruqayyahsmum - I think your post has touched me most of all. The fact that you could use this thread to teach your daughter what a normal woman's body looks like makes it all worthwhile. It sounds like you are doing an amazing job with her. Kudos to you!11 -
